God-Le
Restaurant,
Krabi:
When
in
Thailand,
eat
Thai.
When
in
this
quiet
part
of
Krabi,
eat
God-Le.
We
were
at
Shellsea
Resort
which
boasts
self-acclaimed
5
stars
but
seemed
more
like
4
stars.
The
hotel
is
pretty,
don’t
get
me
wrong
but
I
read
so
many
reviews
of
God-Le
that
I
must
give
it
a
go.
It’s
Thai
food
that
could
have
made
it
to
the
Ritz
Carlton’s
of
the
world,
at
incredible
prices.
By
now
you
would
have
combed
through
reams
of
reviews
of
the
deceptively
nondescript
eatery
sandwiched
between
the
secluded
roadside
and
the
sea
front.
There
aren’t
many
options
when
you’re
staying
at
the
stretch
where
Shellsea
sits,
meaning
you’re
mostly
held
captive
by
the
resort.
So
venture
out
for
this.
It’s
worth
it.
Turn
right
when
you’re
out
of
the
resort.
At
first,
you’re
daunted
by
your
decision
as
it’s
just
a
stretch
of
tarmac
and
nothing
else.
Worse
of
all,
there’s
no
walking
lane.
Your
knees
buckle
as
cars
and
bikes
speed
by.
Where
is
the
god
damn
God-Le,
you
might
think
like
us.
It’s
a
5-minute
brisk
walk
and
you’ll
see
the
name
painted
against
the
Greek
blue
of
the
rundown
house.
The
restaurant
is
in
a
shanty
but
charming
rickety
hut.
There
are
only
a
handful
of
tables
and
seating
and
the
weak
bamboo
stilts
that
hold
up
the
hut
don’t
give
much
hope.
There
are
also
rundown
tables
and
seats
nearer
to
the
beach
front.
The
Mediterranean
blue
of
the
bench
is
such
a
nice
touch.
The
tables
are
all
cleverly
foliaged
by
trees
and
the
combined
effect
is
rustic,
kickback
and
unpretentious.
Bring
your
insect
repellent
as
the
feasting
of
the
mosquitoes
are
about
to
begin.
Otherwise,
they
provide
a
bottle
of
spray
too.
The
lovely
lady
owner
was
so
sweet.
We
were
the
only
persons
when
the
dined
there
so
both
times
felt
like
we
had
a
personal
chef.
On
day
1,
she
was
alone
and
took
to
the
kitchen
alone
too.
The
30
minute
wait
was
well
justified
and
empathized.
You’ll
soon
taste
the
reasons
why
it
was
worth
the
wait.
We
ordered
tomyum
seafood
soup,
prawn
vermicelli
and
fried
prawns.
Day
2
we
had
sweet
and
sour
fried
fish,
green
curry
shrimp
and
shrimp
pad
Thai.
They
were
heavenly
and
riched-up
in
tastes
with
herbs
and
natural
ingredients.
The
vermicelli
claypot
was
hands
down
our
fav
on
day
1
and
sweet
and
sour
fried
fish
was
the
bomb
on
day
2.
All
dishes
were
cauldrons
of
explosive
tastes.
You
get
complimentary
watermelon
and
mango
sticky
rice
on
the
house.
She
was
so
delighted
to
sees
on
day
2
that
she
gave
us
free
coconut
juice.
We
were
short
of
cash
on
day
2
and
her
brother
and
her
insisted
it
was
OK.
They
were
so
sweet
and
hugged
us.
It
was
so
good
we
made
two
trips
here
and
turned
our
noses
up
at
the
toity
restaurant
at
our
hotel.
