Exploring the storied waters of Thailand's Andaman coast brings travelers to the remarkable contours of Ko Kai, commonly known as Chicken Island, named for a rocky outcrop that uncannily resembles a chicken's head and neck. This small island, part of the Poda group of islands, offers not just a whimsical landmark but also an escape into the region's natural grandeur. Ko Kai stands as a sentinel in the sea, its craggy silhouette a beacon for those who seek the unique interplay of sea, sky, and stone. The island's avian-inspired monolith is a geological tapestry, millions of years in the making, now posing for the quintessential snapshot that has become a symbol of the area's rugged beauty. The island's beaches are slices of tropical bliss, with crystal-clear waters hugging the shores. Snorkeling here is an immersion into an underwater carnival, with vibrant coral reefs teeming with a kaleidoscope of marine life. The island's aquatic environment is a microcosm of the Andaman's biodiversity, showcasing an array of fish that dart through the water like living jewels. Beyond the allure of its famous rock formation, Ko Kai is a testament to the serenity of Thailand's lesser-known isles. It's a place where one can bask in the warmth of the sun, on sands that whisper tales of the sea's perpetual motion, and gaze upon waters that stretch to the horizon, unbroken and free. The visit to Ko Kai is more than a mere stop on a tourist trail; it's a journey into the heart of nature's artistry. As the day yields to the golden hour, the setting sun casts a glow on the Chicken's silhouette, transforming the island into a silhouette of storybook perfection. For those who anchor on its shores, Chicken Island remains a highlight, a piece of Thailand's coastal majesty, offering a moment of awe, a memory that resonates with the soulful touch of nature's hand.

Small island named for its odd rock formation, offering secluded beaches, snorkeling & a snack bar. Mostly in 4 island tours We cover this from the boat only means they only showed from the boat and don't allow it to get down on this island.

Not because of the many chickens on the island but because of the unique shape of the mountain peak that resembles a chicken. This time we didn't lean back but stopped for a moment in the ocean. The guide gives 30 minutes for those who want to swim or snorkel. Unfortunately it is not rented out or provided snorkeling equipment here. There also no information in advance that we would have a chance to snorkel. As a result, we are quite satisfied with feeding the fish because our snack are suitable for fish tastes :D. The fish types here are no different from Karimun Java and Thousand Islands Indonesia. The kind that would summon the herd if anyone fed them :D

Koh Gai/Koh Kai - the Chicken Island gets its name because of the uncanny resemblance for looking like a chicken's head. It's often part of the 4 Island tour. Most operators stop for a quick visit and snorkel around the island. The island itself doesn't have much to offer.

Beautiful spot for snorkeling, but be wary of the tiny jellyfish in the water. Mostly they are harmless pinpricks but it can hurt if you have more sensitive skin / areas of the body. Seems like they tend to enjoy the edges of the enclosed area.

Almost every island on my four island in Krabi has been very beautiful. Chicken island has got its name as the hill near the island has a shape of the chicken. Although we did not get down on the island. We had sipped our boat nearby for a swim. It is again one of the beautiful islands. For more information on the four island trip and itineraries and places to explore visit travelclever.co.in

The name Chicken Island is because the island resembles just the shape of a chicken head. You won't step on this island. You can enjoy the beauty of the boat. We took a four-island tour, and our boat took us there and gave us some time to take pictures. That day there were big waves in the sea, and the boat was shaking; it was difficult to stand and take photos.

We hire longtail boat for us and spend here a lot of time - snorkelling :) and we did well, with hop on hop off tour you don't have that opportunity. And it worth it, even the price is cheaper for 2 prs. You can hire your boat at any dock, price should not be higher than 2500 thb, but it can be cheaper.

Beautiful place for snorkelling with lots of marine creatures and colorful fishes. The corals were really beautiful. Out of 7 island trips visited, this was the best spot for snorkelling though being deep compared to other places. I really loved this place

Very beautiful island, you will have a very good experience for being here. We traveled through boat, pre booking must do before visiting karabi 4 Island tour. I guess you will get more discount if you book from any shop in karabi instead of pre booking from your own country. You can notice Chicken shape in the image thats why we called it chicken islands.

We can visit this island during the Krabi 4 island trip. Enjoy the chicken shaped rock on the way to Phi Phi Don, in the speed boat itself due to some reason trip guide didn't allow us to get down at the chicken island.

Stopped here as part of a 7 island tour. The resemblance to a chicken is pretty cool, though we didn’t get to actually explore the island. It’s definitely funny and worth it as part of a tour but not a place I would venture to on my own as there are many other options for snorkelling, relaxing, and beach activities around!

Chicken Island (Ko Gai) is a stunning destination off the coast of Thailand that captivates with its azure waters and unique limestone formations. The island gets its playful name from a rock resembling a chicken's head and neck. Snorkeling in the vibrant coral reefs reveals a kaleidoscope of marine life, making it a haven for underwater enthusiasts. With its scenic beauty and diverse aquatic wonders, Chicken Island stands out as a must-visit gem in the Andaman Sea.

You won’t get to step on Chiken Island, depends on your guide. The best thing here you can do is snorkelling. If you are afraid of water or don’t know how to swim, don’t miss this opportunity. Take a life jacket and dive in, the guides are good, they’ll help you out. Once you are inside water you’ll feel confident. Make sure you don’t go deep or you might hurt yourself. Stay away from Sea Gin, it’s poisonous and you’ll be in pain till your whole stay in Thailand.

    1. Beach is small but very picturesque. 2. It gets submerged during high tide. 3. The water is very clear and amazing for snorkeling and sun bathing. There are multiple beaches in chicken island, I went to just one of the them. The experience was amazing. It's part of the four island tour. So it's one of the most popular destination there. However if you're running short on time, you can avoid this tour altogether and go to Hong island instead.
