Okay I must put a disclaimer first and say that I am a climber and a technical hiker, so this “hike” to get here was totally up my alley. The very start of the trail with the vertical wall and ropes gives you a very good idea of what you’re getting into, and there’ll just be more of it, and harder parts. The ropes come in handy for ascent and descent and once you finish the first part of the trail, you go right to go to the lagoon, and then from there you follow the trail until you arrive at a series of walls that will take you down. They all look worse than they actually are, but I must say having some sort of scrambling / bouldering / climbing experience is necessary if you want to do this safely. I can easily see this going horribly wrong for people who aren’t prepared or have the wrong footwear. Remember this is a relatively remote and inaccessible area and getting emergency help will be a a heroic feat. When I got to the lagoon it was empty because I arrived at a time when the tide was out, but I wasn’t fussed because this “hike” was worth the experience. Plenty of mud. Length of adrenaline. Plenty of scrambling. Plenty of places to practice your climbing / bouldering / abseiling skills. I’ve added pics to give you an idea of what to expect.

Worth the hike. We were the only 2 people there for about 20mins when we first arrived. Very beautiful and peaceful when there is no one else there. A few things to bear in mind: it's not an easy hike. There are spots where it's almost vertical and you need some strength to get up and down using the rocks or ropes. Some rock climbing experience will be handy. It's a short hike, but it is a little strenuous. Make sure you have good shoes. At minimum, I recommend strong sandals with straps. Flip flops won't cut it. We saw some people going barefoot, that's an option but be mindful some rocks are sharp and jagged. You will get dirty. The ground is covered in red clay, which gets slippery when it's wet. Don't wear good clothes. Bottomline-is it worth it? I think so, but beware that it's not as easy as some people make it out to be. Take your time and be careful. Lastly, be mindful the path splits immediately after you get up the first climb, one leads to the lagoon (right) the other leads to the lookout.

Do not climb the lagoon alone unless you hike/rock climb on a regular basis. The lagoon itself isn’t worth it, it’s muddy and brown, you can’t swim there without proper water shoes. Spikes on the floor and very slippery. The hike is terrifying for inexperienced regular people. You can handle it with some courage but you will sprain your muscles. I did it and I’m walking a lot, strained my thighs really badly. If you do it, make sure you take it easy and don’t rush it.

great hike/climb there are ropes to help climb down the steep bits, i was in a group so we could all help each other. Wouldn’t recommend after rain as it would be very slippery and muddy. There is a view point (beautiful) which is easy to access if the lagoon is too difficult. However once you get to the Lagoon it’s a nice swim and definitely worth the unique experience

Amazing place, but not that easy to get to. I really wouldn't recommend going there when it's raining, or when it rained recently. The hardest part is at the end when you're going down to the lagoon. I saw some people turning around at this point, but I also saw middle aged woman doing it, so it really depends whether you will be up for the task. It's much easier going back, when you're going up through the hardest part. I'd say just hold on tightly to the ropes and you should be ok. But wear proper shoes and clothes, you will get dirty. Lagoon is very pretty and peaceful, but the water is muddy and there's a lot sharp rocks at the bottom. It's rather shallow but deep enough for swimming.

The lagoon is a pristine nature reward after a short but technically and physically challenging trek. Don’t underestimate the difficulty of this and wear the right shoes (i.e. no sandals or flip flops as many people do) as the terrain is steep and can be slippery. For experienced climbers this will be a walk in the park but not for the faint hearted. There are ropes to provide assistance in the most difficult parts of the climb. 20 minutes both ways without stopping. No need to buy tickets for this. It can get crowded after 10:00 am.

This hike is intense on the decent. It’s kind of worth it, I loved the challenge of the climb. After you get up the first trail you have the option to go to the viewpoint or go right and back down into the lagoon There are 2 major headwalls and a steep decent section. The headwalls look super intimidating but have ropes to help you climb and a few good foot holds along the way. Once you’re in the lagoon you can do some exploring or just chill. Pay attention to the ride times because low tide the lagoon is a mid pit.

This place is so physically challenging, the path is very very steep (90 degrees). If you never had some experience in rock climbing or hiking, I do not recommend going here without an instructor. But the lagoon is amazing. You can swim in the lagoon. Finally, this place is worth visiting.

Currently not accessible! Me and my group made it the whole way up and when going down the rock towards the lagoon came across essentially a large landslide on the way down. It’s a sheer drop you would need to abseil down and we doubted we would be able to get back up considering the rope is covered in clay. The situation was very sketchy and super dangerous. We ended up going to the viewpoint towards the left which was stunning and somewhat made the climb up worthwhile (hence the 3 stars)

Very cool and interesting place I think you need to go at high tide for it to be better. Bewarned the climb up/down is extremely steep and at times you are hanging on to a rope so you must be able to support your own body weight. I think anyone who is reasonably young and fit can do this but it's definitely a challenge. Gets slippery here so done go when wet. If you fall then a rescue will be very difficult.

If you have never climbed a mountain, or have zero experience with climbing straight up or straight down, then this may be extremely dangerous. It IS dangerous....because if you slip and fall, you will enter a nightmare. That being said, it’s beautiful. We decided not to scale the last two drops to get to the lagoon, but it looked beautiful. We decided to track back and enjoy the viewpoint instead.

Getting to this lagoon is absolutely insane. I didn’t realize until we got there that it is legit mountain climbing and scaling down. The lagoon is pretty, but not much time needed to spend down there. I thought this experience was pretty cool and definitely recommend if you are adventurous.

One of the highlights of our trip in Thailand, absolutely must do, can be a little challenging if you're not in good physical shape or afraid of heights but its well worth it! The first stop at the view point you can rest catch your breath and just enjoy the scenery. From here to the lagoon is the more challenging portion but again so worth it. Pictures truly don't do any justice have to see it for yourself.

Wow just wow!! It is definitly a hard path to reach the lagoon. Don’t take it easy and don’t go when it rains because then it’s dangerous! Oh and bring water with you to stay hydrated and concentrated… That way down itself is a real experience. Going back is easier than going the way inside. The very best of that place is that there are no people here because of the trail! A very special place that made the trip to Railay Beach worthy.

First of it is a dangerous way down to the lagoon and you should definitely not underestimate it. First we just went to the viewpoint, but after that we wanted to try the way to the lagoon. It is beautiful and peaceful once you are there but the way down there is dangerous. You definitely should were shoes and clothes that can get muddy and dirty because the way down includes quiet a bit climbing on slippery rocks and you definitely get dirty. Down to the lagoon you need to climb down 3 stonewalls that have almost a 90degree slope. Those walls are covered with a rope with tie knots so you can hold on to them without them slipping out of your hand. But still the rope is wet and this makes it anlittle harder. Once down it was beautiful! There are just a few other tourists down there. 👍🏽

The first part to the view point and first half of the way to the lagoon is fairly easy Would recommend proper shoes however. The last part of the lagoon path is very steep (90 degrees), there are cords but with the rain it gets quite muddy and slippery. Better go at high tide so the lagoon water is blue, otherwise you’ll see the shallow water. From the begging to the view point, then to the lagoon and back was 1-1.15h

Very beautiful place. The hiking is not easy. I went with my husband but he didn’t manage to get to the lagoon. I went alone and was beautiful!! Very hard climbing!!!

The climb to the Lagoon is physically exhausting. It's basically 90 degrees, and needs a bit of climbing experience at least. Make sure to bring a bottle of water. There's a viewpoint after you climb to the top or the Lagoon which you need to climb down, this is the hardest part. Dont even try this if it's wet or dark

Yes, great hike. Good climbing for a normal hiker is 100% doable. Just take it easy of you must and watch out for slippery. I did it on flipflops, better do not. Its ok though. The lacoon it self you can swim, watch out for rocks and its very slippery also. Be early if you dont want to wait at the ropes. ,:) See my ig gertjan_bos for more footage .

Beautiful and serene place. In silence you can hear a truly beautiful droplet sound that resonates allover this arena. It’s an up and down work, a lot of climbs. Go slowly step by step. Muddy, not for a rainy day things will getting much harder. If the weather is nice thats the day. Even on the sunny day after the intersection to the lagoon the surrounding getting deeper and darker. Interesting scene before the lagoon to reveal itself.

Warning, dangerous trail to the lagoon! When you walk from Railay East Beach to the Cave Beach you'll notice a sign to the Princess Lagoon & viewpoint halfway. You have to climb up on rocks to get there. There are two parts, first part is to the highest point where you can walk to the viewpoint and the other part is where you descend to the Princess Lagoon. The first part is fairly easy and did that first time on my flip flops. The second part I came back for the other day with hiking shoes as it is 90 degrees mountain climbing and very dangerous. You fall you die most probably! Also check the tides before coming here as we did it when it was low tide so there was no water.

Need to climb on a mountain and then go down, very difficult, must come ready with swimming clothes because it will be very dirty and you will want to swim in that lagoon later. Also bring suitable shoes. The entrance is free

Was a great hike down, but be warned that some parts we’re basically vertical climbs. There are ropes to hold onto but as we went after it had rained they were very slippy so it made it quite dangerous to get down. Especially if you are not used to hiking/climbing. It was also ridiculously muddy at the bottom around the lagoon.

The most beautiful secluded area away from all the tourists in Railay. If you're not scared of heights and don't mind some climbing with just a rope to guide you. It is absolutely worth the danger!! A must

Beautiful place where you can enjoy the silence. The water in Lagoon depends on the tide, so it's better to go there at high tide. The way to Lagoon was fun for me, but not for the people who are scared of heights. No rope needed, can go free solo all the way down, with proper shoes or sandals. I've seen the locals going up and down with flip-flops but it might be slippery of your feet get wet.

Great site. Make sure you have sneakers or hiking boots with you once you go. The way to get there contains lots of climbing but it is still doable 🙃

The hike to the lagoon is very steep and about 1h if you’re somewhat comfortable with the climbing. Makes sure to wear good shoes and no extra baggage

It's a route for the well fit, but definitely worth it. If you want an "easier" route, you can go to the view point.
