Best
of
the
best
–
stunning
and
not
to
be
missed
We
stayed
at
the
remote
and
relaxing
Pullman
Khao
Lak
(1.5hrs
from
Phuket
airport).
And
when
I
was
researching
a
day
trip
from
there
Khao
Sok
National
Park
(which
has
the
spectacular
Khao
Sam
Kloe
limestone
formations)
came
up
as
top
of
my
list.
I
contacted
the
top
3
rated
tour
companies
on
TripAdvisor,
the
Concierge
at
Pullman
and
also
Boss
at
Cheaper
than
Hotel
Taxis.
One
company
replied
that
it
wasn’t
possible
to
see
Khao
Sok
National
Park
in
one
day
and
recommended
another
expensive
tour.
Boss
replied,
not
only
with
a
price,
but
also
with
recommended
stops
along
the
way.
Saturday
13th
August
2022
we
were
collected
at
9:30am
from
Pullman
Khao
Lak
and
it
was
off
to
Khao
Sok
National
Park.
Boss
organized
for
a
luxury
minibus
which
was
so
comfortable
and
spacious
for
the
four
of
us
-
and
airconditioned.
Our
stops
enroute
were:
• Mae
Yai
Waterfall,
with
the
height
of
the
waterfall
at
30
meters.
It
is
a
gorgeous
waterfall
and
a
great
place
to
stop.
It
is
about
5.5
kilometers
from
the
national
park
entrance.
• Khaosok
View
Point,
with
views
over
the
valley.
(Just
a
few
minutes
from
the
waterfall.)
• Wat
Tham
Phanthurat,
a
buddhist
temple
where
there
are
lots
of
monkeys.
(Note,
they
are
wild
animals
so
important
to
remember
if
you
have
kids).
A
cute
stop.
• Rajjaprabha
Dam
View
Point
overlooking
Rajjaprabha
Dam
or
Cheow
Lan
Dam
(185-square-kilometre
artificial
lake)
which
is
a
multi-purpose
dam
in
Ban
Cheow
Lan,
Tambon
Khao
Phang,
Ban
Ta
Khun
District,
Surat
Thani
Province.
Its
purpose
is
electricity
generation,
irrigation,
flood
control,
and
fishing.
Construction
started
on
9
February
1982.
It
was
inaugurated
on
30
September
1987.
His
Majesty
King
Bhumibol
Adulyadej
graciously
gave
the
name
“Rajjaprabha”
meaning
“the
Light
of
the
Kingdom”
to
the
dam.
And
the
colour
of
the
water
is
absolutely
stunning
!
It’s
in
this
dam
that
you
find
Khao
Sam
Kloe
limestone
formations
(accessible
by
long
boat
from
the
Cheow
Lan
Pier.
• Cheow
Lan
Pier.
The
beautiful
Cheow
Lan
Lake
in
Khao
Sok
National
Park
consists
of
emerald
green
water
with
a
delicious
temperature
of
about
28
degrees.
The
lake
is
surrounded
by
immense
limestone
cliffs,
the
highest
of
which
is
960
metres
high!
These
limestone
rocks
are
overgrown
and
surrounded
by
beautiful
green
lush
jungle.
The
longtail
boats
leave
from
the
Ratchaprapha
Marina
Pier,
this
is
near
the
Ratchaprapha
Dam
View
Point
–
and
at
the
embarkation
point
there
is
a
supermarket,
restaurant,
toilets
and
a
parking
place.
Boss
organized
for
us
to
be
met
at
the
Pier
and
we
were
guided
to
the
Long
Boats
(20baht
municipal
fee
and
200baht
national
park
fee).
Note:
Toilets
are
free
and
clean
near
where
you
pay
the
national
park
fee.
• Long
boat
ride
on
Cheow
Lan
Lake.
Spectacular,
amazing
and
one
of
the
trips
you
must
take.
We
had
a
private
long
boat
for
2500baht.
They
provide
lifejackets
and
great
drivers.
It’s
about
45minutes
to
the
Khao
Som
Kloe
limestone
formations
which
are
the
absolute
highlight
of
the
trip
–
just
stunning.
The
long
boat
took
us
to
the
bamboo
raft
house
in
the
lake
on
the
way
back
(we
briefly
stopped
for
photos
but
no
lunch
–
we
prefer
big
breakfast
and
dinners).
• And
the
day
ended
with
us
being
dropped
back
to
our
hotel
around
4pm
after
a
magnificent
day.
