Unique and you see associations made with Dragon in every part of this city. You may see this dragon from the view point in the castle, or you can either walk down through the Dragon's den (which has a small entry fee), or walk around the castle wall to get here. The dragon breathes out flame every 5 minutes. It is common to see kids climb up the rock where the dragon stands.

It’s spectacular to watch of flames from the monuments. Many tourist stop over this place, kids like to climb the dragon statue and have fun around. The Legend of SMOK WAWELSKI says that a dragon terrorised the city for many years before being defeated by a brave townsman.

Dragon's Den (Smocza Jama) is a cave in the Wawel Hill in Kraków, the best known cave in Poland. It got its name from its connection to the legendary Wawel Dragon. The cave has two entrances, one natural and one artificial and they are connected by three large chambers. According to mythology, the man-eating Wawel Dragon plagued the city of Kraków established by legendary King Krak, until finally being defeated by the king's sons. Unfortunately my photos are not good at all.

Wawel dragon that is not just a statue, but a living story of the city of Krakow and a legend that is passed down from generation to generation and delights tourists. The dragon is one of the main symbols of the city and you can find it in almost every part, it is on every souvenir, magnet, snow globe and the like in almost everything.. the only thing I didn't like was that the statue is not fenced, there are children and people who climb on the stones next to it and spoil the experience of the statue. what is impressive is that the status spits fire every 5 minutes

Interesting monument of the Dragon of Wavel Hill. The monument has a mechanism that can allow fire to shoot out of the mouth of the monument.

The dragon will breathe fire every 5 minutes. If you stand near it, you will hear some noise before it lights up so you can time your camera at the right time. The Dragon of Wawel Hill is a man-eating monster that was being appeased with a weekly ration of cattle, until finally defeated by the king's sons using decoy cows stuffed with sulfur. But the younger prince Krak junior murdered his elder brother to take sole credit, and was banished afterwards.

Proper Draco Nobilis (Great or Noble Dragon, fore and hind legs plus wings. Distinguished from the Wyvern forelegs and wings, no hindquarters, looks like a flying fire breathing snake) statue with a stout flame you can feel.

Great to see the sculpture of the dragon complete with flames. It was very busy when we visited with lots of school children. Nice photo opportunity. Nice to see it and tick it off our list of places to visit.

The story of the dragon is quite different and reaches back into the past. A little theme of love makes it nice to believe legend to say to children but also to adults 💕🐉 (The story is so nice that I could even write a blog post about it! I don’t want to unveil to many details here) The dragon blows real flames from its snout 🔥 every 10 minutes. Really nice to see it! I’m recommending it to all - adults and children

Interesting. Intersting sculpture near to river and wawel castle. You can view this dragon from castle aswell but if you wana have closer look then you have to go out of castle. Lots of people around dragon waiting for it to throw fire 😁 but you will enjoy that few seconds and also nice view of city from there.

The statue is breathing fire once a 5-10min. It's cute. You can buy souvenirs at the dragon's feet, and they are lovely. I just love dragons so had a great time 🙂

Small dragon structure near river that actually spits fire every 5 mins. The legend behind it is interesting: how a smart boy tricked and killed the dragon. Gave it spicy food and dragon had to drink a lot of river water, thus exploding.

Just see the mystic dragon from under Wawel get out of his den and do a fire breath above the audience. A must have been there for everyone coming to Krakow the first time.

Review for Smok Wawelski, Kraków: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Smok Wawelski is not just any statue; it's a living testament to the fiery spirit of Kraków! With each real, intense burst of flame, this dragon not only lights up the Vistula River Walk but also kindles a sense of wonder in the hearts of onlookers. Experiencing this magnificent spectacle at night is a visual treat, transforming the riverbanks into a mesmerizing dance of light and shadows. And if you've got that perfect timing, capturing this majestic creature's fiery breath in a photo or video is truly a keepsake. But what truly stands out about Smok Wawelski is its embodiment of Poland's trust in its people. In many places around the world, such a feature might be considered too risky, but in Poland, it stands proudly, a symbol of trust and freedom. Much like the unbridled spirit of the dragon, as an international remote personal trainer and life coach, I believe in igniting the inner fire of individuals, guiding them towards their best selves. Whether you're witnessing the might of Smok Wawelski or working towards personal goals, it's all about finding that spark and letting it shine. Embrace the magic of Kraków and always keep that flame alive within. 🔥🐉🌍💪🏼.

Very unique monument that breathes fire every 5-10 minutes. It is located along a very nice walk along the river. I recommend going here in the evening to get the full effect of the fire.

Walk right up and see the dragon! This is a very busy monument, with good reason! Families love it and the area around it brings out the understanding of why the castle was placed above.

Nice statue of Dragon hurling fire every 5 minutes :)

It is nice if you're visiting the castle above it and fun if you wait for it to spew actual fire but include it in a trip there, don't go just for the dragon. Also, dragon's den (the cave) was closed when I got there.

Den Wawel-Drachen erreicht man über die Flußpromenade und über eine steile Wendeltreppe durch seine Drachenhöhle von der Burg aus. Eine schöne Attraktion für die Kinder.

Wawel Dragon Statue is a monument at the foot of the Wawel Hill in Kraków, Poland, in front of the Wawel Dragon's den, dedicated to the mythical Wawel Dragon. The statue is capable of breathing fire on demand.

If you love a dragon and can wait for 2.49 minutes you will get to see if breathe fire, if there is a friendly soul around you can get a picture with the dragon breathing the fire. Awesome.

One of my favourites places in Krakow and also cherished by polish children. A statue of a dragon that breathes fire every 5 minutes. Be sure to read about the legend behind this place

Must to see in the city, just next to the castle (which is also a must). Randomly every few minutes it throws fire from the mouth, so it's good to relax there for some minutes just seeing the good views to the river

  • 2/5 Nick T. 2 years ago on Google
Its one of those 'gotta go see it while you're here' places, especially if you have kids, however the crowds that surround Smok and placing youngsters perilously on the statue make photo opportunities a chore. Better to visit off season if possible and when the sun is setting... makes for better photos, uike mine here.

Cool dragon statue in a rather abstract style (first dragon I've seen with so many arms!) but the best part by far is that it breaths fire. It used to be that you could send an SMS to get the dragon to shoot flames, now everyone has to wait- the flames seem to come out on a timer every few minutes. It's free to visit- the nearby "Dragon's Den" doesn't actually have any dragons in it. This free to visit dragon is the main attraction and well worth stopping by!

OMG, it's a fire spitting dragon 😜 Surely a nice attraction for tourists. Perfect location on the river and in front of the castle's wall.

It’s a little overrated I think, but still it’s nice too see and it’s cool there when it’s hot outside. The entry is up at Wawel. You walk towards all the people that make pictures of the view and then on your right is the entry there you can buy the tickets as well

THERE IS ACTUAL FIRE COMING OUT OF ITS MOUTH!! sorry, I was really not expecting there to be fire. but it's a cute statue and the area around is great to see the sunset over the river. couldn't add a picture of the statue tho because there are random kids on all of my pics and I respect their privacy ✌🏼

Entering into the dragon cave is really interesting to experience the place and the architecture. It’s was a fund after spending a long time in the castle.

We visited the Smok Wawelski while in Krakow and it was oretty cool to see! I think the story is more cool than the dragon itself, but still worth a visit! The dragon also spit fire out of its mouth every 5 minutes, but you can also text a number and make it do it more frequently! Overall a nice place to visit right on the river bed by the castle!

  • 5/5 Marcus H. 2 years ago on Google
This is a great bit of fun on the banks of the Vistula, next to Wawel Castle. The flames are about every five minutes and it usually has people crowded around it. Certainly a nice little distraction to visit.
