Awesome place. A must try for all travelers. It is hard to find a very hygienic place to eat when traveling. This place ticks all boxes. Toilets too sparkle here :-).. But know that we were probably their first visitors in the morning. Not sure if hygiene remains the same later in the day. We stopped here for breakfast, loved it. Ample parking space but lot of people visit the place for breakfast as the cars kept coming. We reached early, just when they were opening up and the place was empty. As soon as they opened all seats were taken and parking too was almost full.

Staff attitude is very bad, cashier and cleaning staff they are not bothered in customer hospitality may be the day when we visited the owner or mgmt staff was not around. Food is ok over hyped for the price. Poodi idle 3* the idly was not as soft as Saravana bhavan Dosa 3* Vada 4* Coffee 2* not hot We visited this place for morning breakfast at 9.30am so its not odd hrs.

It's just the hype, food is really average. Service is so substandard. We were here at 6.45 am, they made us sit for 20 mts. We got ready to leave, so a server came took the order not only for us for everyone....it was utter chaos. People who came after us got food first. We tried to call their customer complaints number, but no luck. The podi idly was good with coconut and tomato chutney...but the mint and coriander chutney was not appetizing at all. One coffee is 30RS, seriously too high price. Worst are the toilets. Very unhygienic and dirty. The water was not working, in any of the taps…..so you can guess the state of the women who went for long jobs…..really disgusting.

    • Idlis were very soft. The best! The masala podi is also amazing 🤩 • Chutneys are alright. Not that strongly flavoursome. • The Sambhar was okay good. • The Onion Utthapam was fantastic with the perfect crispy outer layer and soft inside. The onions in it had perfect roasted flavour. • The Podi Masala Dosa was just okay. It wasn’t crisp. The aloo inside was nicely mashed and soft. • The Godhi Halwa is seventh heaven for sweet tooths like me 😇

If you are on the Bangalore Chennai Highway and need a break, this is one good choice. The place is a spacious complex, good for parking, having a wholesome meal, a much needed stretching of limbs or need hygienic restrooms. There's no separate service lane. You just take a left from the highway (coming from Blore, that is). While the name says Murugan Idli Shop, they serve many other items too (probably started as a humble idli shack and became successful restaurant chain). The food is regular South Indian fare of the region, served on banana leaves, and includes rice meals, and various avatars of idli, dosa, vada, uttapam, sweet pongal etc. The highlight items seem to be the ghee and chutney podi (dry chutney powder) rubbed idlis and uttapams. Every customer is first served a set of 4 chutneys.. from the flavours I guess they are: 1. fresh coconut, 2. mint with red chilli, 3. mint with green chilli, and 4. copra and tomato. They also served sambaar for all. These chutneys and the saabaars can be refilled. They service is quite interesting. The servers go around carrying various items in big trays. You just hail them and get what you want. We had onion uttapam (came rubbed with chutney podi, and I loved it!), masala dosa, idlis and coffee. We asked for ghee separately which they provided liberally in a katori. They also sell some sweets on the shop front. The eating hall is fairly large. It's a good place for big group travels, families or just solo. The restrooms are in a separate building. They are clean, with both western and Indian style water closets. But the floor is constantly wet. Liquid soaps are provided, no toilet paper provided.

This legendary eatery is located before Krishnagiri in TN. The place is known for its iconic food items. It is a crowded place and please make sure you can wait for 15-30mins minimum most of the time of the day. As soon as you get seated they lay down the banana leaf and serve 4 type of chutneys. We ordered their iconic Ghee Podi Idli which is soaked with ghee and topped with podi. The taste is fantastic. Next we had the vada which was crisp from outside and soft from inside. Good as well. They roam around with some of their food on tray. We had their Podi Masala Dosai and the Ghee Masala Dosai. The dosai are okay okay here, nothing great about it. But dont miss out on the Sweet Pongal. Its made with Ghee and have flavors of cloves. It's nothing less than legendary. We even parcel it. Overall, a amazing place to have food especially breakfast. The cost is on the higher side.

Nice place for breakfast stop in the route. Amazing & delicious food, ample parking space and fast service. Must have ghee Podi idli and podi dosa. You can't find this Podi idli anywhere else. It's the best, It will melt in ur mouth. You can also try filter coffee. Price are a bit on higher side but worth it. Restrooms are clean and maintained. A bit crowded place, and you may have to wait for some time to get a table over weekends. Good driveway from Bengaluru.

The service at Murugan Idli was friendly and efficient. The staff greeted me with a smile and made sure I was well taken care of throughout my meal. The main dish was quickly served and was very delicious. In addition to the main dish, the sides at Murugan Idli were also noteworthy. The Chutneys were perfect complement to my meal, adding an extra burst of flavor and right texture. The filter coffee at the end was also excellent, with a rich and bold flavor that paired perfectly with my breakfast. I highly recommend everyone passing by Bangalore - Coimbatore highway to visit Murugan Idli. Last but not the least it has ample parking space.

Best restaurant to visit when travelling towards Hosur and Pondicherry. They serve authentic Tamil Nadu style Pongal. They provide 5 varieties of chutney with idli and dosa along with sambar. Their wheat halwa is not to miss. Ghee pudi idli is really good. Onion uttapam is not upto mark. Very huge parking and sitting area with quick service

Hard to miss on the Chennai highway as the board comes on the left and it's an all white building. The prices are on the higher side and you wouldn't know because no menu card is provided. You have to rely on the server sharing options (without mentioning prices). But that is OK because the food is yummy. We had the idli and ghee roast. It gets served on a banana leaf kept on a plate. Each chutney is worth trying and quite delicious. The dining hall is air conditioned and they have clean washrooms. There is a takeaway counter and another outlet present selling tea/coffee outside. Lots of parking but none covered.

Murugan Idli shop, a spacious well maintained restaurant! on our pondatury tour we started from Bangalore at 6.30am, reached here for our 1st break at 8.30 am. The place is conveniently located on the highway at Krishnagiri. Wonderful and nice ambiance, both within the seating area and outside, ample parking, good food and I liked everything but not given 5 stars as service is a bit slow, staff seems just not bothered about customer hospitality, we had to ask for spoons 3-4 times. They are very slow in taking the order and cleaning the tables as well. The waiting time also is very annoying. However it is worth waiting for, as the food is really good, The best! Idlis were very soft. The masala podi is also amazing, Sambhar, Chutneys-with varieties of chatni optins was also good and very tasty. At Least for the convenience of guests from other states they need to give chatni in small boules instead of on banana leaf and provide spoons!! Restrooms are clean and well maintained. Overall it was a very satisfying experience

Favourite pitspot for breakfast while traveling through this route. On weekends there maybe some waiting time. Service is very quick. Food is amazing and a little expensive too. Ample parking available and also relatively clean toilets. The podi idly is amazing with the filter coffee.

Stopped by while going on the way to kodai and heard a lot about this place that it's a must to eat podi idli and few other things here. Felt this place is too hyped, it seemed pretty average by the taste. Also huge queue in the entrance and you can expect a wait time for atleast 10-15 mins. Coffee also tasted bad, kinda liked dosa better than idlis. My friend used the toilet and had a good experience and told it was clean. Don't go with a lot of expectations.

I liked their masala dosa but it could be improved. Service was nice. The staff were really co-operative and quick. I am not so fond of filter coffee so it was okay for me. If you like filter coffee you might like it.

Had been on a Saturday morning enroute to Coimbatore. Rush was heavy and yet the crowd management was super efficient. The manner in which the food is served for such large crowds is incredible. Taste of the food is authentic and delicious. Well managed car parking too. There is a Sweets and Savouries counter also which offers a variety of snacks and lip smacking South Indian Sweets. Five Stars.

If you want to taste a podi idly made in heaven, this is the place to be. No one can beat this taste.. tried garlic podi idli, ghee podi idli and curry leaves podi idli. It was so soft and tasty. A heaven for idli lovers.

Iconic place for Pudi Idly since few decades. Now a days lot of restaurants have come up with Pudi Idly in their menu, Murugan Idly was only place in the past where we could relish Pudi Idly. Most favourite and yummy dishes here goes like this - Pudi Idly, Ghee Roast, Onion Uttapam, Pudi Dosa, Pongal and Sweet Pongal. Ofcourse coffee is very good. In recent visits I feel only Pudi Idly and Coffee has been very good compared to other dishes in the menu. It’s near Krishnagiri, Kanchi and Chennai where I have visited and experienced same feedback.

We had our breakfast early in the morning. If the crowd is more, there is a slight 15 to 20min waiting required. However it is worth waiting for as the food is really good. Idly with varieties of chattini and other podi idly, variety dosa and idly. I really love the mint chattini with plain idly. They are having other savouries and sweets as well. There is ample parking available with clean washroom facilities. The place is slightly located on a slope, so there is a chance to miss out while driving from Bangalore. Worth exploring once and I will visit again.

20 min waiting during peak period(weekends 9-10 AM). Try their Ghee Podi Idly and sweet pongal. Quality is good but pricey. Taste is not that great for the price. Parking is huge and toilets are clean.

Ordered the famous Murugan Podi Idly and podi dosa. The food is pretty good. Also order the South Indian meals. The cabbage palya and the rasam were excellent and not to forget, the Kesaribath. They are decently priced as well.

The taste is good. But on a weekday when i went, they had nothing but breakfast food item only. I couldnt even get myself a juice. For a building that looks that huge, its silly to not have basics (that too on the highway). Wont be visiting again.

Located on highway and good option for stopover for people travelling to chennai or coimbatore. The 4 chutneys served along with any dosa or idli is amazing. Service was also quick. Clean washrooms, ample car parking space available and ola charging available.

There’s nothing special about this place other than what other hundreds of restaurants are offering on the same NH44. The only difference is that these guys are offering the same delicacies for a much higher price. Parking space is very good and washrooms are clean. Service is okay and quick and the food was delicious. But, it is slightly expensive for what they offer. Though official closing time is 11:30 PM, they close down much earlier. There’s an in-house sweet shop as well. We visited for dinner on a Sunday night on our way home and took a U-turn just to visit this place, but was not worth it. We were expecting authentic Tamil dinner but were offered only idli and dosa. A place you wouldn’t regret skipping.

  • 5/5 Shashank H. 1 year ago on Google
Mind blowing breakfast. The idlis are so damn soft and tasty, I had the best feeling eating them. They even serve crispy dosas of all varieties, that just melt in your mouth and give you an amazing feeling. The staff was super friendly and highly efficient in their service. You might have to wait for a while if you visit on weekends, but it’s definitely the worth!! Loved the whole experience of having a great breakfast here. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great place with mind blowing food and kickass service. You can refer to the staff as Anna or akka since they don’t really understand any other language except Tamil.
