Srikanteswara Temple in Nanjangud town is well managed. One gets a diving feeling during the time spent inside the temple. On that day, queue was long, so no hassles from so called "experts" roaming around to offer you quick darshan ! We were intrigued when came to know that this is place is revered as 'Varanasi of South'. There is ample parking around the temple. The temple is ancient one, which appears to have been renovated in recent times. The temple is constructed in South Indian Style of architecture. The 'Gopuram' and the roof of the main temple has been painted in Gold Brown colour, which makes the temple appear very attractive. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, worshipped as Shri Srikanteshwara and also know here as Shri Nanjundeshwara. The temple is highly revered among the devotees. Other than during the festival time, the temple is highly crowded during weekends and holidays.

This is a very beautiful temple of the hoysala era. The internal sculptures and statues are very beautiful. There are many black stone statues of linga's, Ganesha, nandi and many other gods and goddesses. This is a must visit if you pass by Nanjanagundu on your way to Ooty or Wayanad.
