Srikanteswara Temple in Nanjangud town is well managed. One gets a diving feeling during the time spent inside the temple. On that day, queue was long, so no hassles from so called "experts" roaming around to offer you quick darshan ! We were intrigued when came to know that this is place is revered as 'Varanasi of South'. There is ample parking around the temple. The temple is ancient one, which appears to have been renovated in recent times. The temple is constructed in South Indian Style of architecture. The 'Gopuram' and the roof of the main temple has been painted in Gold Brown colour, which makes the temple appear very attractive. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, worshipped as Shri Srikanteshwara and also know here as Shri Nanjundeshwara. The temple is highly revered among the devotees. Other than during the festival time, the temple is highly crowded during weekends and holidays.

This is a very beautiful temple of the hoysala era. The internal sculptures and statues are very beautiful. There are many black stone statues of linga's, Ganesha, nandi and many other gods and goddesses. This is a must visit if you pass by Nanjanagundu on your way to Ooty or Wayanad. It gives very peaceful vibes here. There is also a large Shiva statue.

Visiting the Nanjanagudu Shri Srikanteshwara Swami Temple was more than just a sightseeing trip; it was a spiritual journey that left me feeling renewed and inspired. From the moment you step onto the grounds of the Nanjanagudu Shri Srikanteshwara Swami Temple, you're enveloped in a sense of peace and spiritual energy. This ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is not just a historical landmark, but a vibrant hub of devotion that resonates with the soul. The towering nine-story gopuram, adorned with intricate carvings and colorful stucco figures, is a sight to behold. The Dravidian style architecture, with its intricate pillars and exquisitely sculpted panels, transports you to another era. Every detail, from the finely-wrought bells to the serene lotus pond, speaks volumes about the dedication and artistry poured into this sacred space.

One of the greatest temple which comes under archeological survey of India. A beautiful temple which is maintained very neatly, even though it's crowded heavily the temple is maintained very well. The term nanjanagudu refers to lord Shiva consumed poison. It has a beautiful historical importance which needs to be clearly understood by the pilgrims. Has a good car parking at the back entrance of the temple. Walkable distance from cAr parking. A must visit temple. There is no special entrance so everyone has to access the same common queue. Must visit , recommended temple.

The famous Hindu temple, Shivan Srikanteswara, is located in Nanjanagudu, 24km from Mysore on the way to Ooty. The temple, situated alongside the Kapila River, boasts historical significance and breathtaking beauty. However, the river's water quality is poor, lacking maintenance. Moreover, the surrounding area lacks proper upkeep despite having a large parking space. If the temple and its surroundings were well-maintained, it would truly enhance its grandeur.
