Such a cool experience! Ms Love is very accommodating and knowledgeable and the house is stunning (the highlights being the doll house and cabinet of curiosities). Highly recommend if you want to learn more about the Victorian era or just spend time in an aesthetically beautiful space.

One of the most special experiences ever. The lady of the house made so much effort taking us through with a torch because of the load shedding. I am still fascinated by the incredible stories. Seen objects which I never heard of before. Feel like I will visit a 2nd time. And a lovely garden and friendly and helpful gardener l.

I knew nothing about the Victorian time when I went there and yet Katherine managed to pitch the tour on a level that has something for everyone. Tea and cake are not currently avalible (June 2021) but well worth a visit if you are interested in a trip down memory lane for young and old alike. Well maintained and inviting.

@ R100 entrance including a tour, this is an awesome experience. The tour guide seems to be incredibly knowledgeable on the victorian era. The house is gorgeous, with there being so much attention to details. Totally worth your while.

I've been to many museums, both locally and overseas, and this tour unequivocally is one of the finest you'll experience! Katherine Love is a warm, gracious and urbane lady that will blow your mind with her in-depth knowledge of the thousands of authentic Victorian antiques and memoribilia within the house's twenty-four rooms. In addition, she will enlighten interested visitors with her extensive understanding and encyclopedic knowledge of the Victorian era This is a collection that rivals the finest Victorian catalogues in the world and one could spend far more time than the approximately one-and-a-half tour admiring the intricate and beautifully designed objects on display. The highlight of the tour for me was the incredibly detailed and large-sized doll house that Ms Love and her mother built by hand, which gives a further window into this lady's dedication and skills on the subject. Lindfield Victorian House should be richly supported as the great danger is that this meticulous Victorian collection gathered over decades by the delightful Ms Love could be lost forever due to the general lack of interest about this topic amongst academics and the public at large in this country. Such a loss would be irreplaceable.

Linfield Victorian House Museum is an amazing experience. Take time to have tea and cake after the mind-blowingly detailed tour of the still lived in house given by Katharine. Her knowledge of the period is exceptional and deeply personal. In the collection (gathered over two lifetimes!) one sees curiosities and delights of everyday life rarely seen or even thought of.

Clearly this museum is doing a terrible job educating folks about apartheid. South Africans are completely ignorant of the definition of apartheid, racism and genocide as evident by their country's HATE driven, lazy, false claims against Israel. Do better South Africa. Stand up for the truth and fight terrorism. Currently your country is weak and pathetic, at the very least support the courageous who do.

SUPER AWESOME 🥰 have not done the Tour yet but will be back for that 😊 and will bring my friends. One visitor and her daughter went twice and she said they saw things which they missed on the first tour around the museum. (I had a "peek" looks amazing and interesting) She will be back and bring friends too 🤗 And the market stalls are awesome too - fresh home made bread and croissants (clean and healthy bread - no additives), homemade mustard, home made chocolate spread (vegan) - and beautiful art and homemade samosas, spring rolls, cheese puffs - all super 😋 💃 and to top it all, I had tea and deliciously delectable vegan "eats" you do not wish to miss trying for yourself in the tranquil garden.

A sureal experience. It's as if you are talking to someone who lives in the 1920s. The house at times can be creepy and it's good to know that the creepiness was put into good use with a couple of horror movies being made there. Stunning library, amazing cutlery and by the end of it, you will be wanting, needing, more!

This was a very random and strange find, but worth a visit. This place is full of amazing antiques and a collection of memories, and gives a window into Victorian life. Each room reveals new treasuries and curiosities to explore. We spent over an hour on the guided tour. Our guide was full of anecdotes and information. I would recommend a visit on a day when you're looking for something random to do!

Katherine as the hostess really brings us back to the life of middle-class British back in 100 years ago in JB. She has a huge variety of stunning collection from Vicrorian era. Amazing collection of doll's house which created by Katherine herself and her belated mom.But she do need a helper since so much dust stacks up around the house and no one helps her to prepare English tea ceremony

(Translated by Google) It is felt that in every detail of this house-museum invested soul. A very pleasant and informative tour. Highly recommend to visit. But keep in mind that a visit to the museum must be agreed in advance (!). The owner of the house (this is an apartment building), she is a guide - a nice sweet woman, collected her collection herself and independently supports the museum. One can see how much a person is in love with the era.

This is the most intriguing museum's I have ever seen. The amount of detail in each room is absolutely breathtaking, from the wooden floors to the ceiling is an feast for the eyes. You are transported to an era that was fully functional without modern-day technology and its astonishing to comprehend how the people of this era lived and trived. I would recommend this glorious museum to each and every person. The Lady Katherine is the best tour guide I have ever met, she lives and embody this era with so much care and grace, it was an incredible experience to be able to take this tour with her. Thank you so very much for opening your home to us and sharing your passion and knowledge with us.

Absolutely mind-blown after my visit! The details, massive collection of period-true .... everything! And Catherine is a fount of knowledge on every article in the house, its uses, and how day to day life was lived in the early to late Victorian era. I did not know that this gem of a museum existed in Johannesburg and I've lived here all my life. Spoiler alert: there is a fantastical dolls house, entirely built and furnished by Catherine and her mother. It has to be seen to be believed!

This was the most unique museum experience. One of a kind. The host is absolutely lovely and her private tour allows you to enter the Victorian Era through her home. This is a living museum which is a step back in time and so many interesting facts! Thank you for such a lovely morning in this one of a kind home!

Amazing! The lady who is guiding tours is also owner of the place who lives in the house. She is highly knowledgeable not only about the house and her collections but also about whole Johannesburg and Auckland Park district where the museum is located. I had astonishing two hours tour when she presented me many unique items displayed in the house, told me a lot about history of the place and whole city and answered all my questions. If you want to know more about Johannesburg, how people used to live in Victorian era and you are into collections from late 19th century this is place for you.

Beautiful and special. The lady there explains everything thoroughly and is a presentation of art. Very stern and friendly and allows for pictures and more and answers all questions. My favorite part was the wifi router on the wall 🙃 and her phone buzzing. I love character breakings. The gift shop was awesome too and very reasonably priced, bought some awesome shot glasses lol

I could not get hold of the museum via landline so I thought I would quickly drive past to see if it was open and to find out about booking an appointment. I parked my car in the street intending to walk around to the intercom to ask about bookings and was confronted very aggressively by your maintenance man who demanded to know where I was going and why I left my car there and then proceeded to EXTREMELY aggressively tell me it was by appointment only. I tried to explain I just wanted to find out if you were open but at this point felt very shaken and scared and so chose to drive off with him shouting something at me. I burst into tears in my car. As a woman alone to be met with such unjustified aggression and behaviour which made me feel scared and afraid for my safety when I merely wanted to enquire about opening times has been very upsetting. I love museums but I don’t think I will return for a visit.

What an awesome experience! We live in the area and it was a privilege to experience how people lived around here more then a century ago. The fact that it is a "living museum", makes the experience so much more authentic. Katharine, the host, has wealth of knowledge, and is more than willing to explain anything. Our visit was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone from the 8-year old, to the grandfather.

Me and a friend spent a lovely hour with such a lovely and knowledgeable host just absorbing everything in the house. It was such a surprise to see how little we know of our past and also how different they lived back then and still how much we are still like them. She has such a beautiful collection of stuff and it honestly is as close to stepping back in time as we can get right now. If you are interested in the Victorian era, guided tours, antiques or just want to learn something new 10/10 would recommend. Not posting pictures cause you need to go!

It was such a delight to visit this treasure. Katherine and her Mother have created this wonderful experience where you are immersed in Victorian history and can see it for your own eyes. Everywhere you look is a charming object with a story that Katherine is able to recall for you. I could have spent a day in just one room with her but there is a whole home filled with antiquity. Please do take time to visit this true gem
