First time coming to this place. The central market is larger than expected (compared to the photos), and there are alot of interesting flea market like stalls and stalls selling collector's items. Definitely better than Chinatown as it is air conditioned and sell local products instead of counterfeit stuff. There is a food court on the second floor.

Central Market in Malaysia is a vibrant cultural hub located in Kuala Lumpur. Spread over two floors, it showcases the country's rich heritage through a plethora of arts, crafts, and culinary delights. The market, established in 1888, has evolved into a haven for both locals and tourists. The architecture itself is a blend of modern and traditional influences, reflecting Malaysia's diverse cultural tapestry. Visitors can explore a wide array of stalls offering traditional batik prints, intricate handicrafts, and unique souvenirs. The market is a treasure trove for those seeking authentic Malaysian artistry. Beyond shopping, Central Market is a culinary paradise. The food court beckons with an array of Malaysian delicacies, from Nasi Lemak to Char Kway Teow, satisfying every palate. It's not just a market; it's a gastronomic journey through Malaysia's diverse flavors. Art enthusiasts will find joy in the market's Art Lane, where local artists display their creations. From paintings to sculptures, this space embodies the vibrant Malaysian art scene. Regular cultural performances further enhance the immersive experience, offering glimpses into the nation's traditional dances and music. Central Market stands as a cultural bridge, connecting the past with the present. It preserves Malaysia's heritage while embracing the dynamic spirit of the modern world. As you wander through its lively aisles, you're not just shopping; you're delving into the heart of Malaysia's artistic and cultural soul.

There's plenty of art and souvenirs shops with interesting items for sale! This is an example of what we found! What a delightful array of colourful sandals of all types and sizes! Worth a visit for those who love such knick knacks and gifts.

Pleasantly surprised by the activity at the Central Market. There were a lot more activities and the place looks significantly more vibrant than a year ago. I am delighted that there were lots of local sellers and products being offered. Prices seems very reasonable hence good for locals as well as tourist. The new anchor tenant has a lot to offer....groceries as well as ready to eat local cuisines. Overall, happy to see the Central Market liven up post the pandemic and would certainly visit more regularly. Note that the building itself is about 143 years old. Suggest those who may not know to read up on its interesting history. I have had the opportunity to visit this place when it was a market - full fledged market i.e. wet and dry!

A nice place to visit if you are visiting KL. This place is clean and air conditioned with many stalls selling clothes and souvenirs. There’s a supermarket and a food court located located within the compound. So if you are around the area and looking for a place to cool down you might wanna consider this place.

More than 20yrs, didn't come inside although passed by every time. Because heart-wrenching, bring back my childhood memories - grandpa owned a fruit stall in this wet market when I was a kid, came here very often until government turned into tourist attraction centre for art-crafts, souvenirs and handicrafts. Surprising, it getting pretty and prettier...so many unique shops. Sadly, there are many shops closed down due to pandemic crisis because customers here mainly are tourists. But I find so much fun, so many unique handicrafts and souvenirs, tempting to buy everything here, never can find elsewhere in KL.

A very touristy market where you will get all the knick knacks to take back as a souvenir. You can find things at all price points here. We did buy certain souvenirs, the quality of those were good. The market was not very big, atleast the main building can be covered in a hour or so. Parking is very limited here so it is better to go using public transport.

Mehhh. Far too sterile, far too crowded, especially on weekends it is a walk through hell. Imagine 40c outside and almost as hot inside with hordes of guileless tourists, lots of these mainland hordes ,yikes, being dragged through this embarrassing market where absolutely nothing is even slightly interesting to buy. All the souvenirs are made in china , so are the tourists buying them. Oh the irony 😂😂🤡🤡

This old building that once was a traditional market is now the main spot in the city for souvenirs and traditional art. You have all kinds of shops, food court, coffee bars and restaurants, really worth the visit.

This is a market where you can buy souvenirs and local Malaysian products. The market is not big but good spaces to explore. The products are authentic and good. Some shops are colorful and vibrant. The best time to explore it after afternoon but during daylight, it is less crowded. Both cash and card are using for payment. Disabled people can enter easily in the ground floor but no option to go upper floors. This is only three storied market.

If you're a big fans of souvenirs, this place is a must visit. So many stores on the ground floor and 1st floor selling souvenirs. Public toilet located inside this facility so don't wait no more if you have severe explosive diarhea. Food court located on 1st floor. Central market open from 10am onwards. But it is advisible for you to come at 11am the earliest. Because at 10am the merchant busy preparing their shop. Come early of you don't mind helping them sweeping the floor or something. If you walk outside the central market you will notice so many homeless people. During my visit they are busy having breakfast. Sad. I hope the best for all of them.

I thought it was closed for a renovation during the MCO and was looking forward to the new look but it still looks the same. Part of the ground floor is hoarded up. Although there are less shops now but still an interesting place to shop and enjoy the air conditioning. The kasturi walk outdoor is closed unfortunately. The lovely wau structures are still there. Years ago there were many local artists painting on the spot and selling their original master pieces there. It was my all time No. 1 tourist spot which i showed off to my oversea guests. Now there are mainly souvenir shops and a place to shop for handicraft gifts. I collect fridge magnets and i still shop for good bargains here. I used to lunch at the food court upstairs too. Now I parked here and eat at the many choices of shops nearby. Parking is quite limited though.

If you love adventure, then central market is the place to be. They have all kinds of shops, each one having a theme and being distinct on its own. It was a very pleasurable experience. Prices tend to be on the higher side as this is a tourist area too. Great experience nevertheless.

Nice to have a modern air conditioned shopping experience to get away from the heat. An assortment of restaurants from Malay to Thai provide a good eating variety while the clothes shops range from cheap touristy fare to nicer boutiques. There is even a food mini museum inside that relays the history of the area.

One of the most historical buildings in Kuala Lumpur that must be visited by just about anyone, local or visitor. Coming from a 100+ year old history, the Central Market was formerly a wet market, converted to what it is today. The place is perfect for souvenir hunters, but suffered a massive blow to business due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Now it's slowly repositioning itself back to the game, but it will take some time to see this place in it's full grandeur.

This is the grand Bazaar of Kuala Lumpur. You may find traditional clothes, products, souvenirs of Malaysia in here. There are some Chinese shops selling special stones which they believe it brings luck. On the second floor, there is a huge local restaurants serving all ethnicities' cuisines available in here. Not the best quality but the most diverse one.

Loads of local craftsmanship available as the big food court based on the 1st floor. Air conditioned building. Feast for the eyes. Great place for shopping or just to relax. Great market, was so thankful for the air conditioning.. lots of boutique shops selling hand crafted goods and souvenirs etc etc. Food hall as well which was inexpensive. I would have bought some items if I had the space to arty them home. Had a fish foot spa at a place called Cute Fish Spa- 10 ringgit for 10 minutes which I thought was a bargain for 10 minutes worth of giggling 😂

A must visit place if you like to have a deeper understanding about Malaysian art and craft and its culture. This is a lovely place to visit during any day especially weekend because they will have cultural performance show. Might take you about half an hour if you’re just to window shopping, it will take you about 2 hours if you would like to participate in batik painting, or some fish spa or try the food in this place.

Best for tourists and even local people if you are looking for local food, souvenirs or art pieces. Good place for shopping. Can get many things with good quality. Air-conditioned and expanded spaces with nicely decorated alley selling things from different races and cultures in Malaysia.A very well maintained and a very beautiful market. The prices are not on a lower side, but a tourist will get most of the things as souvenirs to gift their family and friends. I will definitely recommend you to visit. Easy to reach by metro or by Go KL free bus. Enjoy shopping.

Central Market is an absolute gem! From the moment I stepped inside, I was blown away by how clean and organized everything was. The sellers are not only incredibly friendly but also knowledgeable about their craft. What's even better is that shopping here won't break the bank. It's a bit cheaper than the tourist spots, making it a win-win situation for everyone! Shopping at Central Market is an experience you don't want to miss out on!

The price is relatively cheap because the central market is one of the souvenir sales centers in Malaysia. (Original) Salah satu desitinasi wajib jika ke KL. Due to the current Covid situation, there are fewer stalls open for business and desperate vendors urging you to make a purchase. However, they aren't desperate enough to lower the prices. Nevertheless, many items are reasonably priced and worth buying. You must not buy on your first attempt scouting around. Compare prices as you will see a vast difference in pricing from stall to stall on similar items. The same shawl I purchased from a stall for RM10, is sold at RM20 at another. So, take time to browse through.

Many shops are not open but many are still operating and the items are very very nice. Hand bracelet, crafts, traditional attire, custom letterings on mugs or plates and ceramic items etc... Custom portrait paintings are available still at the end (outside) of Central Market.. many oil paintings are sold there too..

This place is a ghost town. I believe if it wasn’t cause of pandemic, a lot of tourists will be here. This place isn’t a place for locals as they sell a lot of touristy stuff like keychains, traditional handmade stuff, postcards, etc. However, towards the end of the market, there’s few places that sell paintings and do portrait paintings which were fascinating. We found this hidden gallery and I took some photos.

How can you not love Central Market? Its one of the first successful example of an Adaptable Re-use project, an alient concept in KL at that time..When they wanted to turn a wet market into a tourist attraction, naturally most people were sceptical...but that didnt stop these mavericks...and what a huge success it turned out eventually!! For me personally, the opening of the Central Market coincided with my return from oversea after completing my studies..and obviously became my favorite hangout...those were the days...😊😊😊

The pride of Malaysia in the city. After the many years, me returning to Central Market and feeling so proud of this, must be said as our Malaysian number one tourist attraction. Souvenirs, arts and craft and the art gallery by itself. So amazing, so admirable and so meaningful. Must do. Even for Malaysians who have not visited Central Market. Whether you shop or not. Great tourist place for souvenir shopping, local snacks and clothing that you would also find in night markets. The experience is much better than night market with it being air conditioned and clean. There is a lane of open air little stores of essentially what you can find indoors as well. Local labels such as panda eyes and laluna can be found here as well. The second story has a food court but be mindful that the food's out for a while due to the low traffic, it might not be that good anymore in the afternoon. The thing that is worth buying is the shawl, and I won't pay anything beyond RM10 for an ordinary one.

A pale shadow of its former vibrant and busy hub days just before the Covid 19 pandemic nationwide lockdown. Due to it, customers were few and far between with a noticeable number of shoplots shuttered up or down, possibly due to poor business and uncertainties of the impending return of tourists, both local and foreign, which was has been its lifeline since it was converted originally from a wet market to a center of attraction just a stone throw away from the iconic Chinatown. The premises is still in tip top condition with plenty of its beautifully and tastefully arrayed quaint shops selling an assortment of items from souvenirs to foods and clothes. It also boasts of as a place of art with shops selling paintings and a centre for self portrait loving customers intending to immortalize their good look for time immemorial. As a whole, a very nice and conducive place to spend time in for your tired feet or just window shopping.😃😎👋

Still a great place to find and buy local handicraft and souvenirs. Ample parking space. But sadly, during this Covid-19 pandemic there is hardly any crowd there. The food court on the 2nd floor was also rather empty. I ordered some drinks but they were too sweet. It was at 4pm and there were no kuih2 being sold by any of the stalls. Pasar Seni changed much after the pandemic scare. A lot of businesses ceased to operate especially among the non-Malaysian, mass-produce products. Some of the lots were turned into event space. Thankfully some shops selling genuine locally-made product survived. Still question why they have to cut down all the trees in the parking lot though. Is is because of the crows, or because the trees obstruct the facade of CM from visitors?

🚈 Public Transport : Very close to Pasar Seni station (MRT, LRT, KTM). But from the station, need to cross the double lane road to get to the market. Pasar Seni is one of the oldest iconic places in KL. The market has been renovated and expanded but overall, it still retain its core architecture especially the facade ever since late 1800s. It was quite surreal to think the market has been there for many decades and generations. It's truly a heritage icon. Inside, the market packed with plenty of shops and kiosks selling traditional, cultural products. It's a 2-storey building, the ground floor mostly occupied by souvenirs sellers selling sculptures, pewters, antiques items etc while the second floor largely has clothes, outfits shop selling traditional batik, songket, cheongsam etc and on this floor, there's a food court too. At the end of the block (need to go outside of building), there's a row of artist shops selling painting, artwork. The 3D Illusion Museum building actually annexed by the end of the market block. There's also a neat mini museum at the center of ground floor showcasing the brief history of the market and KL, highlighting the market evolution over years and decades alongside the iconic figures that helps shaping the economy sector of Malaya back then. It's a wonderful place for anyone looking to find unique, special gifts to someone while at the same time appreciating the magnificent historical value of the market. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommended

  • 3/5 Dz M. 2 years ago on Google
During our visit there was not much going on there. It is still under renovation. Prices of goods are pricey. Not many shops were open. Not much attraction. Perhaps due to the current COVID-19 SOP as well as the current renovation and repair works. Wonder if the lease cost is detering businesses to open their business there.

I like the mini museum about KL in there which is very educational. There was an exhibition when I went there that day and it made central market more lively. Prices are on the touristy side so I won’t buy anything if I don’t need any. Good place to scout for Malaysian gifts and handicrafts.

This market make me remember Ben Thanh market of Viet nam. However, this one is cleaner and equipped air conditioner, you can shopping for a long time. This place have several bakery store that made a lot of cute cake, and good smell too. it also has numerous clothing store, almost sell modern clothes for young. One special thing I noticed there is a wall of history. This wall was painted a story when establishing the market, throughout decade, describes the development of this market, and this wall interesting me. There also have a lot of decorations and souvenirs for visitor.

Love this market as it has aircon and still have sunlight in it. It is more hip and artsy fatsy! I like it as it sells a lot of interesting and modern things too. Large walking space and has a food court in level 2. All in 1 place. Would recommend not to drive there as parking lot is limited and queue is very long on a weekend. This market sells things that cater to male, female and pets too! Sadly didn't take any pictures inside as I was too busy shopping and looking. Haha

One of the most popular areas of KL. this place used to be a wet market and now it’s an amalgamation of a top floor food court, a tourist shopping area for souvenirs from stalls as well as small pop up booths for handmade crafts as well as an arts corner in the outside part of central market. There’s also a fish foot spa (10 ringgit for 10 minutes) and also a postcard sending station where you write on a postcard, put on a stamp and send it to your loved ones ! I also tried the musang king durian ice cream which is super famous in Malaysia !

When I was studying, I often came to order design products, and later I often came to look for postcards. You can find a variety of artworks here. It is a paradise for tourists to buy souvenirs. public toilet available at 50 cents.

This place is a tourist center of attraction. Easily reachable by using public transport i.e lrt, mrt, bus, taxi or e-hailing or driving. However, do take note that during weekend you might face difficulty finding a parking spot there. But there are ample parking spaces at POS Malaysia building. Located just next to Central Market. It is ±5 minutes walking plus there is a connecting bridge. There's so many things to look at here. You can enjoy yourself by doing batik painting. NO FOC to do the painting. Else you can just immersed and enjoy yourself seeing Malaysia 🇲🇾 culture and heritage and enjoy the buskers singing with a cup of coffee or tea and a piece of cake or biscuits.

Make sure you go on a weekend during day time to see all the outdoor stalls open - although the indoor market is open till late. A great selection of food, souvenirs, and art available at reasonable prices.

One stop place in KL to hunt for souvenirs and culinary delights. Last time I was here at the beginning of 2020 before Covid, now it is getting better organized in the inner building. But for some reason, I feel like the prices here are more expensive than before, maybe the rental price has gone up? The traffic in front is always congested and the parking space is not spacious enough during peak season or weekends.

If you are looking for a good place to do some cost effective shopping central market is the place. There are some great bargains but be prepared to negotiate. One thing is that many stores deal in cash only and there are very few ATMs.

This is definitely a must visit places in KL. Lovely local seller stuff. The best part is you can bargain. A very old market and it's covered perfect for a hot afternoon or saving a rainy day.

Central Market is great if you're a tourist/foreigner shopping for gifts and souvenirs to give to friends and family. Make sure you bring a local with you to help negotiate the prices. The variety of items to buy has increased since 2019 but most shops sell the same thing- purses, twin tower model, batu seremban, lipstick covers, etc... The new part for us was the foodcourt that recently opened. Most stalls aren't price friendly but the food was delicious. Recommend the Roti Canai and Nasi Lemak from the mamak stall. Other than the above, there are other activities such as, painting batik, eating more street food, thrift shopping and sightseeing (enjoying the view and air)!
