Designed by Charles Correa, this is a cultural hub of Jaipur. It's smaller than i thought but in a good way. The architect has a knack of capturing the essence of a city through his design, flow and arrangement of spaces. There are many workshops taking place here, so do look it up before visiting. When i visited, the galleries were displaying students works and some music performances in the evening (which i missed). There was a small bazaar on the outside hosting some clothes and cutlery to shop for. The Indian coffee house within the campus is decent. Service is slow. Do sit in the open, behind the kitchen if you come early, for a secluded private experience.

JKK is basically a place where there are exhibition hosted. These exhibitions are total cost friendly for the vendors, and also minimal entry fee (which is not always chargeable) is pocket friendly. The exhibitions have always the theme or objective of giving a platform to showcase the small scale or women empowered businesses, and providing them the deserved representation. I would recommend everyone to definitely visit the place, as you get many creative business products and also amazing people. About the place: It is a very well maintained, groomed and open space. The security and organization is pretty amazing and hardworking.

There is something very beautiful about the architecture of this place and the murals and paintings on the walls is rhythmic, follows some movement which instigates gaiety and alacrity inside. Fishes painted on the ceiling of the central dome stands out exceptionally to me. The air of this place is very bewitching.

An architectural marvel which encompasses the true spirit of Jaipur in terms of its history, heritage and culture. Charles Correa did a wonderful job designing a place that takes its inspiration from the Vastu of Jaipur city, Ancient Indian plans and locally available materials. The entire place has so many elements with right depth and meaning. The play of light with shadows and greenery makes the entire place a beautiful sight to behold. One should definitely pay a visit to explore the building, the art galleries of emerging artists or exhibitions, and enjoy their time having some delicious food at ICH or Quaint Café. I absolutely fell in love with JKK and I will make sure to visit it the next time I am there.

Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) Jaipur: A Cultural Gem in the Pink City Nestled amidst the bustling streets of Jaipur, Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) stands as a cultural beacon, enriching the vibrant tapestry of the Pink City. With a history rooted in art and a commitment to preserving Rajasthan's rich heritage, JKK is a testament to the city's artistic prowess and cultural legacy. In this review, we'll explore the myriad goods and experiences that make JKK a must-visit destination for art aficionados and culture enthusiasts alike. Architectural Marvel: First and foremost, JKK's architectural grandeur is an art form in itself. Designed by the legendary architect Charles Correa, the Kendra is a striking blend of contemporary design and traditional Rajasthani elements. The geometric patterns, open courtyards, and the use of local pink sandstone create an enchanting backdrop for all that unfolds within its walls. Cultural Riches: JKK is a treasure trove of cultural experiences. The art galleries house a diverse collection of contemporary and traditional art, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Rajasthan's artistic heritage. The revolving exhibitions ensure that there's always something new and exciting to explore, making each visit unique. Creative Workshops: One of JKK's standout features is its commitment to fostering creativity. The center frequently hosts workshops, where both novices and seasoned artists can participate in a wide array of creative activities. From pottery to painting, these workshops provide an opportunity to learn from skilled artisans and unleash your inner artist. Craft Bazaars: For those looking to take a piece of Rajasthan's rich craft traditions home, JKK regularly hosts craft bazaars. These events showcase the work of local artisans, including pottery, textiles, jewelry, and more. It's an excellent place to shop for unique, handcrafted souvenirs. Performing Arts: JKK is a hub for performing arts, from traditional Rajasthani folk performances to contemporary theater and dance. The auditorium hosts a variety of cultural events and performances, ensuring that visitors can experience the beauty of Rajasthan's arts and culture in its many forms. Library and Resource Center: The Kendra's library and resource center are a haven for scholars, students, and anyone interested in delving deeper into Rajasthan's culture and history. It's a quiet and well-equipped space for research, making JKK a valuable resource for academics. Cafes and Eateries: After immersing yourself in art and culture, JKK offers a variety of cafes and eateries where you can relax and savor local and international cuisine. The tranquil surroundings make it an ideal spot to unwind, reflect on your cultural journey, and enjoy a meal or a cup of tea. Conclusion: In conclusion, Jawahar Kala Kendra is an iconic cultural institution in Jaipur that offers a rich tapestry of artistic experiences. It's a place where tradition meets contemporary creativity, and where the vibrant culture of Rajasthan finds a modern expression. JKK not only preserves the state's cultural heritage but also nurtures and encourages artistic endeavors, making it an essential stop for anyone seeking to explore the arts and culture of the Pink City. JKK, located on JLN Marg, is a vast space that caters to and upholds the artistic spirit of Jaipur city. Through theatrical performances in the auditoriums, to exhibitions of all kinds in its many galleries, Jawahar Kala Kendra opens it's doors to art enthusiasts across the city, to witness creative endeavour made real. While I have attended many such exhibitions and plays at JKK over the past decade or so, I am writing this review today to mark my visit to one of the most rare exhibits JKK has had the pleasure to host - a royal exhibit on the most well-known King of Egypt, Tutankhamun. For more details, do visit - @tutankhamun_in_india The exhibit has been live at JKK for close to a month, closing on 7 October 2022, and though I am late (in visiting and in this review), I am satisfied at not having missed this glittering display of some of Egypt's oldest treasures. To ward off tomb raiders, I must emphasise that the entire display is a replica of the original, and credit for that goes to the artist Dr. Mostafa El Ezaby. Prior to being housed here in Jaipur, these pieces have travelled to Switzerland, Germany, Japan, France, America, Belgium, and many other countries. JKK is assuredly in good company! The exhibition includes some of the iconic pieces from the king's tomb, such as the golden mask of Tutankhamun, the sarcophagi, coffins, military chariot, some replicated pieces of jewellery, and many other rare pieces of art. Any history enthusiast would find plenty to gush about at this exhibit and if you've already been there, you know what I mean. If you've not been able to visit, I sure hope you take the next two days to mummy-walk your way over and catch a glimpse of Egypt's pride. My sincere thanks to the curating and managing team at JKK for arranging this exhibit. I truly hope more such exhibitions will find their way here; glittering gold amidst this pink city.

Jawahar Kala Kendra is an architectural masterpiece designed by Charles Correa, and is also one of the most loved buildings in Jaipur. It's a hub for artists, musicians, theatre groups and anyone who wants to learn. Conducting cultural activities all year round, there's something for everyone here. It was inspired from Jaipur's city plan and builds on the concept of Navgriha(nine planets) Who should visit? Well anyone and everyone. Go try the coffee at Indian Coffee House, which is the cafetaria for this cultural centre.

I have been to this venue few times mostly for grabbing something culturally unique - ethnic, traditional, tribal art and craft. There is always something new and refreshing on display to look at and worthy of purchase. But mind you not every item on display here is of high quality as many products and craft items are handmade. This place is known for such cultural exhibitions, expos, academic conferences etc. Worth visiting if you evince special interest in such human endeavours.

Visited place during the culture expo. Although the crowd was less due to it being 11 am in the morning, the surrounding otherwise was very clean and serene. There were stalls that merchants had put up including a wide array of items from different places in India and some locally produced and sourced. There were shawls and dry fruits from Kashmir and Ladakh, clothes local to UP and West Bengal and some items produced in northern and western parts of Rajasthan. There's a nice eatery called Indian cafe house where one can get a nice savoury of dosas, idli, coffee and the like. Overall, a nice place.

The vibe of the place is something to live for. You get to see art galleries as someone is always desplaying their collection. There are two cafe where you can chill. It has an open theatre where artists generally perform. To that it also has a fair sort of place where you can buy aesthetic crockery, traditional suits and jhumkas.

he Jawahar Kala Kendra Arts center located in Jaipur was designed in 1986 by Charles Correa. It was commissioned by the Rajasthan state government to preserve Rajasthani Arts and Crafts. The plan is inspired by the original city plan of Jaipur, consisting of nine squares with the central square left open as an open-to-sky courtyard amphitheater. The center is an analog of the original city plan of Jaipur drawn up by the Maharaja, a scholar, mathematician and astronomer, Jai Singh the Second, in the mid-17th century. His city plan, guided by the Shipla Shastras, was based on the ancient Vedic mandala of nine squares or houses which represent the nine planets (including two imaginary ones Ketu and Rahu). Due to the presence of a hill, one of the squares was transposed to the east and two of the squares were amalgamated to house the palace. Correa's plan for the Kendra invokes directly the original navagraha or nine house mandala. One of the squares is pivoted to recall the original city plan and also to create the entrance. As in the plan of Jaipur city based on the nine square Yantra in which one square is displaced and two central squares combined, in Kendra, the squares are defined by 8m high walls and are a symbol of the fortification walls of the Jaipur old city. The squares correspond to real and imaginary planets, such that each becomes the symbolic representation of the setting. Externally, the planets appear on the red sandstone facades as symbols inlaid in white marble and granite, while the plan configuration of nine squares corresponds internally to the mythical qualities associated with each planet. Mars signifies power, so the place of Mars, or Mangal Mahal, houses the offices of administration; Guru represents knowledge, and so forms the museum library; Venus as the artistic sign encloses the theater complex, and so on. At the very center of the universe, and imparting to the planets its creative energy, the sun manifests in the stepped tank, a reservoir of knowledge and confluence, of meeting and reflection.
