The name it's self say the British contribution. View is awesome at the rainy or winter season, no parking charges or entry fee . Bit interior from main road. Located besides to the bridge. You can go into the water, before the bridge have way to reach lake.

The entry to the emarald dam is prohibited require special permission to enter the dam. Go around the dam where you have lake view point and a small bridge where you can take photos and view on both sides of the dam

Emarald dam and Avalanche lake located next to each other. Trout fish is available only in Ooty for the whole south india which is grown here. It is surrounded by reserved areas, sometime if you are to see deer crossing between avalanche and emarald. It appears to be in green in other time and brown during rainy season. No proper bus feeder is available. Reach either through your own vehicle or cab

The Emerald Dam is a sight to behold and the surroundings are stunning. Permission must be obtained for further viewing.

Very sad! First of all it’s very difficult to locate. There is no way you can go near the lake, you just have to try and observe from the road. Local people when asked about the lake get confused and tell location of the dam. Better go to Pykara Lake and have fun!

This is a great place to have a picnic with your family and well-wishers. Leave early in the morning around 8 am so that you can get a cozy spot. Take along some foldable chairs for the elders and adults and some carpets so that children can sit on the floor and relax. The view is spectacular. Beware that you might come across monkeys on the trees. So carry a couple of sticks to shoo they away when you are eating meals. Please do not litter the places with disposable plates and cutlery even if it's made of recyclable materials. The beauty of such places are lost because we are being a bit irresponsible. Carry them back to your hotels and cottages and dispose them properly.

Situated at about 30-40 mins drive from Ooty, this is one of the must-visit places for all sorts of tourists(family, friends or solo). Not so well known as the other spots in Ooty, so there's usually no crowd even during weekends. Barely 10-15 people during my visit. As far as time is concerned, it would take atleast 30 mins for an average person to soak in all the beauty of this place. For someone seeking peace and calm, they could even spend 4-5 hours and still not get bored. Personally, I'd recommend blocking a whole day in your itinerary for this place✨

Dam view is very good. If you are going to Avalanche lake from Ooty, then stop here and enjoy the dam and lake view.

Emerald lake view is not very attractive and visitors are not allowed to enter the water area even though the water level is very low. Instead of emerald lake go to avalanche lake view which is worthy of trying. The view is breathtaking and you will get a lot of good pics for Instagram.
