Literally, a living historic village. Take a walk back in time and roam around the small short hills of this ancient village. There's this uncanny blend of current living with historic culture. Short walking distance away are the two largest palaces in Seoul. Several awesome cafes nearby as well.

I nice place to visit a short walk from Seoul Royal Palace (Gyeongbokgung). There isn’t much but still quite worth seeing. To get to the main photogenic spot keep walking straight into the alley from the map marker where you go quite a bit up hill. There’s also maps around the area that guide you though a route through multiple villages in the same area if you wish to see more. There’s a traditional dress (both men and women) rental shop down the road from the entrance to the alley which is quite a popular thing for tourists to do.

This place is a must! I recommend to do this on your first day of the trip: energy is still high, Chance to absorb the local culture, and mood setting for the rest of the trip. Hopefully we all are as a tourist help to keep this place quiet and nice for the year to come. You must do the whole round and stop at the end with a nice cute tea shop to end the tour.

Great place to visit after checking out the palace. That said I do image this would get busier on weekends and might loose some of its charm if it’s too crowded. Best time I reckon is sunset on a weekday and the view down the street is great.

The route where the houses are is actually somewhat overrated, in my opinion. Though very picturesque. It does get very busy, if you are planning to take lots of photos then i recommend getting there earlier. I think you can only explore the street freely from 10-5pm. The surround area is really nice. There are some trendy cafes and bars worth visiting. A nice place to walk around and take in the atmosphere.

One of the most refreshing and enjoyable morning, a long and around this part of Souyh Korea of Bukchon Hanok Village. We were transported to history at olden times. Love to see and relish the beautiful architecture, the old but charming buildings and houses. Some parts hilly with gentle slope but all was worth it. A great morning exercise, anyway!!!

(Translated by Google) Bukchon is a hanok preservation village at the foot of Bukak Mountain. Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, Deoksugung Palace and other tourist sites are nearby. A quiet and beautiful place is in the middle of Seoul. It is a neighborhood where residents live. I simply love this area and I was here many times already. I cannot recommend to come here on the weekend or during public holiday. But please keep in mind that asian Cities are crowded sometimes. That's the way it is. If there is a beautiful spot you will never be the only person who will find it. You can of course avoid the crowds. The best time for a relaxed visit will be weekdays from 10 am to 4 pm. You can stroll around in small alleys with cute boutiques, 3rd wave coffeeshops, restaurants and korean teashops like a branch of the famous Osuloc teahouse. What you also find here: >> Gyeongbokgung Palace >> The National Museum of Contemporary and Modern Art is really worth a visit. >> Insadong: That's another popular area located just across the main street.

So beautiful and peaceful to walk around this place, there are even fast food outlets, traditional dress shop where you can rent and wear the Korean dress and get photos clicked... Essential oils and perfume shops and everything around

It is kind of nice but overhyped. There are pretty views but not really mind-blowing. Still worth a visit if you are around the area.

This village is on a steep hill, so be prepared to hike. Lots of alleys are dead ends so stick to the main path. You'll even see a crossing guard hushing you, as you're not allowed to be loud there. The hill and traditional rooftops make for a beautiful backdrop. Beware of the "best observatory" sign at the top that just leads you into a "tea museum" (named Best Prospect) with an entry fee.

9 Oct 2023: A nice place with beautiful architecture but definitely with quite a number of tourists as well. There are many beautiful cafes to chill out and relax. The view is nice especially when it's getting towards sunset. We tried getting to the top to get the highest view, but it seems some of the places requires an "entrance fee", and since we didn't want to pay just to take a few photos, we didn't enter, instead we just roamed around the streets, which I think is beautiful enough.

I really like the atmosphere here, it has a very relaxed and comfortable feel. It is basically a residential area, so need be respectful and quiet around the area. The attractions generally open around 9am, but you can politely walk around. There are a lot of hills though, so you need to be prepared. You can see Namsan Tower in the distance here. This would have been a great place to appreciate Korean culture, but there were too many tourists. It's hard to take a decent photo.

Super commercialized already. It's supposed to be a traditional village but with the presence of the stores and the souvenir shops, the experience is less authentic and more like a tourist trap. We went here after our visit to the palace. We just walked under the heat of the summer sun. You may rent Hanbok and take pictures in the area.

The road is filled with picturesque traditional Korean houses and was really interesting to see and quite different from the rest of the city. The area is residential so you'll have to be quiet. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Seoul and so it gets quite crowded with people who are either visiting it or coming back from the palace.

This is a residential area with some nice restaurants and cafe and bakeries to visit. It is a famous place to visit because of the scenic spots for photo taking, and the traditional houses that has beautiful historical walls and doors for photo taking. But remember to keep volume down as it is a residential area. It will be a little difficult to walk to the scenic spot if you have an elderly with you as it is uphill and need to walk a distance.

(Translated by Google) If you don't have much time, follow the course shown on the guide map, and if you have a lot of time, go alleys and you will feel the Hanok Village properly. The best way to get to Bukchon Hanok Village is from Exit 2 of Anguk Station, Seoul Line 3, Exit 3. It is easiest to find it first by coming to the place called Jeongdok Library and going along the alley. This time I went and found a map with the course of Bukchon Hanok Village. From Exit 3, they guided us to start the first start at the Bukchon Cultural Center. Personally recommended course tips! Routes 5-6 are also good~ However, it is recommended that many foreigners go to Joongang High School located in the 2nd and 3rd locations. In addition, these days, it is a famous place for filming dramas with Jungang High School in the background. These days, the Goddess Advent appears in the background. (It's a little uphill that way) For those of you who are planning to travel to Seoul, let's briefly explain this place, The Hanok Village in Seoul has Bukchon/Gyeongbokgung Palace/Insa-dong/Unhyeongung/Donhwamun-ro/Seongbuk/Eunpyeong/Ikseon-dong. Among them, Bukchon Hanok Village is a historic area where the nobles of the Joseon Dynasty lived in Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung. Because there is Mt. Bugak, it is also good geographically. The places that belong here are Gahoe-dong, Gye-dong, Samcheong-dong, Wonseo-dong, Jae-dong, and Palpan-dong. A nice historic part of Seoul with many houses and buildings that have kept the traditional designs of yesteryears. It can get crowded so perhaps avoid the weekends. There are several streets that are worth a look so get a map from the tourist information centre or tourist information people who are in some of the nearby streets. The key streets are West and East of the main road that runs North-South. Worth a visit and it's easy to spend half a day to see most areas. No tickets are required as the streets are public spaces.

A very charming place, with traditional building styles and materials making a lovely contrast to modern Seoul. Recommend going early to avoid the crowds. I had a nice peaceful stroll, without disturbing the residents. Easily accessible by public transport and a short stroll to Gyeongbokgung Palace and museum

A residential neighbourhood consisting of traditional Korean styled houses with unique heritage architecture. Many small hilly alleys to view and marvel at the architecture but do keep in mind that the houses still have living residents hence, please respect the residents living in the houses and not create a noisy commotion. Be mindful by not being overly drastic in taking photos in front of their houses with the marvellous architectural backdrop. Many people flock to the area to walk around and explore to take photos as well hence try to be considerate and give everyone a chance to enjoy the scenery.

You can stroll around the alley following the path in the map the tour guide gives or just simply take photos on every corner of this complex. One thing to remember is that you can’t be noisy because this is still a residential area. Hidden between building you will find a nice little perfume shop called Granhand which you can buy as souvenirs. I also find a little shop that rent hanbok with affordable price :)

Very well maintained example of traditional 한옥 (Han-Ok, Korean Residential) dwelling. Love some of the doors and cheeky spouting details. Well worth a visit and not to far from the CBD. Be make sure to be respectful and quiet as it's still a residential neighbourhood where people live. Great backdrop for your photo with Seoul skyline behind.

Historically preserved through the rough ages. Those who are curious about the Korean traditional architecture should visit. The site seems to be preserved way back from the Joseon Dynasty. The historic sites are currently resident to the local people, thus, upon visiting, tourists and visitors are kindly asked to be speak silently and follow the correspondings rules and regulations of the site. Nonetheless, people can buy or rent Hanbok (korean traditional clothing) throughout the day. Plus, tourists can purchase many unique souvenirs and unique merchandises throughout the area. Nearby Bukchon Hanok Village, there are other important landmarks within. First, there is the Cheongduk Gong (or the Emperor's private livingspace. The size of the area is approximately 300,000m^2 in area or more. Next, these is the Blue House or CheongHwaDae (청와대) which is a place where the president of South Korea resides. Next, there is Gwanghwamun (광화문). This place (in general) was the place where the emperor and all government officials had their political meetings and parades. i

Cool old part of the city. We didn’t have much time here and it was just really hot. We also had a stroller with two kids and it was a lot of walking and hills. The neighborhood is really cool though! I would love to come back and take pics while wearing a hanbok.

The architecture is neat and the area has shops and restaurants, we walked from Gyeonbukgung but I recommend taking a bus for easier access. Unfortunatately we didn't think there was much to see, it is a neighborhood with people still living there and we thought it was more of a historical district with maybe a museum. There's really only one road, which becomes very crowded. Unless it's part of a tour, I'd spend my time elsewhere.

It’s a village and every house is dwelled by native koreans so you can’t disturb the dwellers over there while taking photos or roaming around. The village is named hanok because the houses are made of wood in traditional korean style. So that is the only attraction over here. Also you can get shopping areas and cute shops for buying clothes and souvenir and also street food areas are also available

Beautiful alleyways among traditional houses so close to the city. It is a delight to explore this place - do not need maps here. Just stroll about and get lost in the small alleys with these well preserved houses. There are many cafes blended within - take the opportunity to hang out in one preferably with window overlooking the streets to people watch and admire the view.

Amazing village to visit. Wonderful small streets with old architecture. Lots of little pathways you can take and encounter small stores or different views on all sides. It's a hilly walk and tends to get busy. There is an observation deck cafe up top with great views on all sides. But the history and the architecture are the main attractions here. A very beautiful area to walk around. In the summer I'd definitely suggest to do it in the morning when there are fewer people and the temperatures are lower. I was really smart and planned for the middle of the day when it's the absolute hottest... but we still enjoyed it so I can only imagine how lovely it must be in the morning! At the bottom or the "start" of the village there is a sign that is almost like a do-it-yourself walking tour which is pretty cool. There are some cute shops at the beginning and once you get to the top (it's quite a hill) it's more residential - so keep that in mind. We really enjoyed the area.

If you have interest for old architecture and history I recommend visiting this area. But if you don't really care, don't waste time and energy to go here. This area definitely has some of the best spots for taking pictures over northern parts of Seoul, much thanks for being built in an elevated area. There several different streets and viewing points that are great, but unfortunately the typical middle street is what you often see in multi media. Perhaps read a little bit about the area in advance or get a guide. If it is your first time in Seoul, you might consider to visit. But really depends on what your preference is. Weekends are a little bit busier then weekdays. But lately due to the hot weather there are even fewer people visiting. I recommend visiting from 9.30-10am as this will give you much more feel of a solo tour, much less people, more comfortable.

This would have been a good destination to appreciate Korean culture but there are too many visitors. It's hard to get a decent picture without other people. An open place where you just walk around and marvel at the old architecture, the typical Korean stuff around and far-and-few people that you come across at this quaint location. The shops outside are good. You might want to explore before you buy as there is quite a difference in prices quoted by different sellers. Showrooms are good. Restaurants & cafes around are good.

(Translated by Google) In fact, it’s not a special thing as a hanok village. I lived in a hanok, and there were many such hanok villages all over Seoul. But now, a lot has disappeared due to urban modernization, There is no place left as an alley unit. Few people have lived in these places, so I think that it is useful for promoting the architectural beauty of Korea's previous era both educationally. There are many historical sites, attractions, and restaurants worth seeing. The course is most convenient to start off at Anguk Station. Beautiful old architecture and nice for a calming walk in loud Seoul. Recommend to go early as it can get fuller during the day. Respect the locals and don’t litter, be loud or go inside people‘s places / gardens !

This village is super chill and extremely photogenic but please remember to refrain from making too much noises as they are all houses with real humans staying inside! Residents probably not paid by the tourism board of South Korea but some of them put on their thinking caps. Paid for an observation deck with free water in it, seems like a resident's rooftop haha. What's funny is later on as we explore, we found a better view with no charges.

Very nice, especially empty in the evening and you can walk through all the time:) I really recommend to walk up north to the green area and park and do the short hike (20/30 minutes) from the village. You can see the ways and viewpoints on the app maps.me when it doesn’t work with Google maps😅. You have a great view over the city but can’t see the complete sunset, because of a mountain in the west. Have fun and enjoy!

This is a residential area of an old town. It was being restored and I have to say that it is very nice. It is not too big but you get to see how an old Korean town looks like. It is very much like some of the old town in China. Not too commercialized at the moment. It was also not too crowded when we were there. This place is a break from the usual touristy spots like palaces, temples etc.

  • 4/5 Eric C. 4 years ago on Google
A nice hilly walk through a half-modern half-old style neighborhood. There is no wrong path as old style houses are everywhere along the road beside modern cars and houses. There are also clothes and coffee shops along the way.

  • 5/5 Kimberly K. 4 years ago on Google
Such a fun area to walk through. You must be quiet while doing so as these are actual homes that people live in. For a little added fun, you can rent a Hanbok to wear while walking the old areas of Seoul. There’s a tea house at the top that’s 5000 won to enter but you get a beverage—hot or cold tea for doing so. It’s fun to go to the top for the views alone.

Dress up in a traditional hanbok and stroll through the quaint streets of Bukchon Hanok Village. We really enjoyed our time here and felt transported back in time. Its amazing how they are able to keep these traditional houses amidst the vast and growing city of Seoul. We recommend that you arrive here early enough before all the tourists to get that perfect shot. It can get quite crowded but there's plenty of room to share. Be mindful of your noise as this village is actually still being occupied by residents therein. This is truly one of the best attractions in Seoul and the best part is that it's free!

Very nice view with Korean cultural heritage and buildings. The surrounding area is walkable, there are a lot of eateries too. You can rent hanbok if you want, it is provided near the main road, and you can take a lot of pictures in every corner. I bought waffle ice cream and it is nice to accompany your summer day

Being surrounded by the ancient architecture of Korea in Bukchon Hanok Village is really fascinating. It's beautiful and almost feels like you got sent back in time. However, beyond the views and atmosphere, it isn't perfect unfortunately. This place gets CROWDED, as it attracts both local and international tourists. You'll be walking narrow paths while avoiding bumping into others. And you also have to consider the local residence, it almost feels bad to visit just because of the noise they must have to put up with from visitors, tourists, and troublemakers. There are a LOT of things to do in Seoul, so considering this I would recommend just visiting if you're in the area... otherwise, as beautiful as it is and from a POV of a tourist, I think there are much more memorable spots.

Came during sunset hour and got a magnificent view. It’s private residences there so you gotta be quiet. It’s worth visiting for photos and admiring the culture and contrast with the new. At the entrance there are guides for Bukchon village who will give you a map with photo spots and routes to go. Very helpful!

  • 5/5 Kelsie 1 year ago on Google
Gorgeous photo spot. You only need a short amount of time here (we spent roughly 30 mins). Very pretty and super interesting to see the architecture. Keep in mind people live here so if you go early (recommended to avoid too many people) don't be too loud as to wake the sleeping residents!

  • 4/5 Wayne C. 1 year ago on Google
You need to have good strong legs to do the walking. Quaint little village but in comparison to other small villages we have visited throughout Asia its small. The walk around outside the village had some really quaint restaurants and that really made the day. Two to three hours is enough to see everything. What spoils the day is the constant rudeness of taxi drivers.

This is a neighborhood of Korean traditional houses. They look cute, and a lot of people are taking their pictures here. However, please be mindful that this is actually a residential area, and you should keep it quiet :) There are plenty of shops too in this neighborhood.

Love this quieter historic village with many ancient homes especially Dr Baek-Inje property. Many cute shops and cafes and restaurants. Very walkable and perfect for many photo shots. Definitely a highlight of Seoul. Nearby palaces and museums. Can spend several days in this area.

Very cute streets and nicely designed homes that you can take photos of and with. You can also rent traditional clothes just before you enter the village. I recommend getting there early because it can get very busy. There was a nice souvenirs shop there and also perfume shop that I really liked

Traditional village within the heart of Seoul. This is the easiest and closest you can go if you stay in Seoul. Many shops and cafes are nested here and the surroundings. And some are gifted with magnificent view of the city.

  • 5/5 Lorraine Z. 11 months ago on Google
The village is very beautiful and you need to save the silent. A lot of tourists wear Hanabguk (the traditional clothing of Korea, not sure how to write) At the end of the village you can find a stunning view with a very small tea museum, we had a lot of fun.

Beautiful little neighborhood with traditional houses and alleyways. Around the area I found some stored that were selling artwork from locals, and everything was worth to take a look at. Definitely took some pieces home. Also, it’s free!!!

An amazingly beautiful place to walk around. The only downside is that it's full of tourists, of course. But worth seeing and taking a walk around if you're already nearby for the palace!

  • 3/5 Evelyne N. 8 months ago on Google
Cute neighbourhood with old hanok homes. Many hills. Nice to see how the houses were in the past. Many tourists taking photos. There are people reminding us to whisper since people live there. It’s nice but if you are short in time, I would recommend to skip this. It’s a bit overrated.

  • 5/5 Sophie A. 8 months ago on Google
A must-see if you're travelling to Seoul. Arrive early as it does attract a lot of visitors. I visited at 7:30am on a weekday and there were only a few people here. Keep in mind people do live in the village so be quiet and respectful when visiting. There are some amazing views of the city skyline from the top the hill, along with the old historic hanok houses.

  • 4/5 Pracso G. 8 months ago on Google
Was quite a nice and quiet walk through the traditional village, didn’t know where it was at first but I just followed the rest of the tourists until I saw old looking buildings and went towards them. There are quite a lot of people on the walk so getting a photo without anyone is pretty much impossible but even so it wasn’t bad.

  • 5/5 aku adalah p. 7 months ago on Google
Its basically a residential area so please be respectful and quiet around the area. Generally open at 9am ish for the attraction but you can walk around respectfully. Lots of hills though so you need to be prepared. There is a route suggested and don't forget to visit the cultural exhibition house across from the entrance behind the convenience store. There are tourist guides in red who walk around with a map do ask them if you are lost as they can show you the way and can speak english too

If you want to visit do it early morning, after that it would be impossible for you to take pictures due to the crowd. This is a neighborhood and people live there so you have to by order of the city whisper Lots of photo shoots going on. The tea places are hidden in the houses so be on the lookout because you can’t miss them. They are great.

Easily accessible via public transport. Great place to see traditional Korean houses. Also has a great overlooking view from the top of the hill. It's also a residential area, so keep noises at a minimum.

  • 5/5 Benjamin L. 7 months ago on Google
Nice to see traditional houses sitting amidst modern buildings. Be prepared for a bit of walking and climbing. There are cafés and shops for you to rest. Maybe it's the weekend, it was rather crowded with many other tourists and tour groups, most of them in their traditional hanboks queuing in line to have their picture taken. Overall it was still good to visit this place.

  • 5/5 Eizen B. 6 months ago on Google
A beautiful setting in Seoul. Also a must-visit, especially if you’re a first-timer in the city. Tourists can simply roam around and appreciate the beauty of the traditional houses, rent a hanbok, and strike a post for a photo session. We went on a weekday morning and most cafés were closed. Take note that there are also paths that are elevated so get your legs ready.😊
