#Visitsrilanka #kurunegala #Dambadeniya #Rajamaligagala #ancientruins #ancientkingdom #nature #hilltop Dambadeniya is the third kingdom of Sri Lanka according to the documented history. As a result of moving the kingdom to the south eastern regions after the Polonnaruwa kingdom, king Vijayabahu II established this kingdom on 1236 AD. Ruins of the Dambadeniya kingdom can be seen on a huge rock called Maliga Gala. This is situated about 1 km from the Kurunegala – Negombo main road closer to Dambadeniya town.

One of unpopular places. Yet has a ancient historical value as well as very beautiful view. One of the many scenic place I have visited. Remember to enjoy the sunset there. Plan your trip to experience the sunset. Parking space available at the gate, bottom of the rock. Has to climb a bit. But climbing will not disappoint you. One thing we noticed is that you can see very large extents of coconut cultivations. At one stage you can find the ruins of old castle. The castle seems to be made of bricks. This justifies that they had to bring them all to the top of rock. There is another climb to the top. You can have a very beautiful view there.

Google Maps gives you the correct direction to the place. But it is better if you can ask someone from the village. It was a calm and natural place where the ancient ruins remain. The steps were too steep and slippery. So it is better to be careful when you climb up. Seems like the place has been well maintained.

Even though Dambadeniya is third kingdom of Sri Lanka, this place is not popular among Sri Lankans. This place is ancient and historical valued place in Sri Lanka. Easy to climb up to the top and you can see most magnificent view there.

This is the place where Dambadeniya palace was situated. You can reach the peak in few minutes and its easy hike. The archeology personnel there requested not to take photographs of the ruins. Respecting the request I would not be able to share the photos of the ruins and the ponds. I will share few photos of the staircase and the view of the surrounding

This is the ruined royal palace Dambadeniya Kingdom. Located on top of small hill overlooking 360 degree view. The palace foundation is only left currently. About 100 m climb on stairs to take to ruins of palace. Nothing much to see if you are not enthusiast of how defences done here, where should you keep your army etc. 😀

Kingdom of Dambadeniya was a medieval kingdom in what is present-day Sri Lanka. The kingdom's rulers reigned from 1220–1345.

Great place to visit and see how war tactical knowlagde had our Sri Lankan ancestors and how they were defeat eachother with artificial stone staircases designed by there own hands and old technics. "kindly request please do not throw anything for nature. Keep it with you. Please be kind to get back plastic bottles and polythenes. Save your nature for your kids" 🙏❤❤

After many invasions from South India, By the 13th century Polonnaruwa was dislodged as the nation's capital. One infamous Kalinga Magha made sure of that where no ruler after him chose the northern part of the country as a capital. By the mid 13th century, Dambadeniya became prominent in the island. King Vijayabahu III who was able to bring unity among Sangha, chose Dambadeniya as the capital of the island. On the summit of the Dambadeniya rock he built fortifications and sturdy walls and gates. The city was made secure by a moat, a marsh and ramparts around the royal palace. One of the most famous kings, Prakramabahu II ascended to the throne next. During his reign Dambadeniya reached the zenith of its glory. King Parakramabahu II's immaculate Poetic masterpieces "Kavisilumina" and "Visuddi Marga Sannasa" gave a turning point to Sinhalese literature. There is much yet to be discovered at Dambadeniya. And it is a place you must visit. More details can be found at Vijayasundararamaya where you can find wall paintings from 18th century and before. Vijayasundararamaya is identified as one of the earliest temple of the tooth in Sri Lanka too. #SriLanka #Travel #TravelingThatMatters #History #Beauty #Ancient #BestDays #GoodTimes

Another close by place to colombo which you can visit and return in one day. You walk upward through the jungle and through history as you pass the ruins. Not a difficult hike and can be managed within 2 hours covering all. Must visit if you are around the area.
