Kurunegala (Sinhala: කුරුණෑගල, Tamil: குருணாகல்) is a major city in Sri Lanka. It is the capital city of the North Western Province and the Kurunegala District. Kurunegala was an ancient royal capital for 50 years, from the end of the 13th century to the start of the 14th century. It is at the junction of several main roads linking to other important parts of the country. It is about 94 kilometres (58 mi) from Colombo, 42 kilometres (26 mi) from Kandy and 51 kilometres (32 mi) from Matale. Located at an altitude of 116 metres (381 ft) above sea level, Kurunegala is surrounded by coconut plantations and rubber estates. There are eight very noticeable large rocks that encircle and dominate the city. Kurunegala's rocks rise from the plain below and have characteristic names, six of which come from the animals that they are imagined to represent. The largest among them is Ethagala or the "Elephant Rock" (though the translation is actually tusker), reaches 325 metres (1,066 ft). The shape of Ethagala resembles an elephant.

This is the place where all the buses from Kurunagala are started. This has little organize manner to park the bus and this place is very noisy because of the sound the horns of the buses. In bus stand building in second and third flows have so many shops and many of them are computer related and Phone selling and repairing shops.

Very good location, bus entrances and exits are in order. One of the good things about the name board is that it is easy to find a bus. Buses have separate locations. If you want to buy something from a shop, you can get it at the bus stop, but I'm happy with the way vendors get on the bus.

It is a huge bus terminal and not easy to figure it out which is the right bus for me. As a result, I took a bus, the final destination was right but it was not right bus. The bus was the most slow and cheap one, different from the one I wanted to take, speedy & air conditioned bus, but the assistant cheat me. He charged me high price and took me the cheapest one. I was not happy at all but I did not know until I was in the middle of the way to Dambulla. So please take good care of the bus. The facility itself, I think this bus stand was the most huge in Sri Lanka, I have been.

The place is very noisy & busy. Toilets are not clean most of the time with disgusting smells. If you are taking a bus to Colombo first ask the departure time otherwise you'll waste your time, I'm telling by my own experiences After 6 pm it's hard to find buses. So it's better you get a bus before 6 pm. Otherwise you'll have to look for trains...

One of the most spacious bus stations in the country. Due to the city's geographical location, buses are available to most of the areas of the country. The shopping mall adjacent to the station consists of a verity of shops and restaurants.

There is a big bus stand center of the city. Clock tower is very famous nearby the stand. And you can see a gigantic brilliant white statue of sacred Lord buddha on the top of 'Athugala'. You can climb up and worship as well. If you wish a train journey you have a railway station here too. And many more facilities around toun center. Specially you can spend your free time near the beautiful (Kurunegala wewa) lake. To anywhere have bus services form stand. Convenient.

A good town. Situated in north west west provinvnce. It is the capital city of the North western privince and the kurunegala district. This kurunegala town maybe the biggest town in sri lanka their is at least 7 - 8 roundabouts in this town alone..

One of the biggest and most organized bus stands. Its very easy to search for a bus as most of the buses on same routes are located close to each other and also the private, ctb and a/c buses are located right next to each other for the same destination.
