A serene place where one can be at complete peace in mind. A temple by its true sense of the word. I visited the place in an early morning even before the sunrise. The surrounding is peaceful; the views are heavenly. The temple premises is located on a rock formation and surrounded by a thick jungle full of lush greenery. Temple's history goes back to 2nd century BC and the cave shrines paintings and statues belong to the Kandyan Era. Atugala, Aandagala, Dolukanda, Kurunegala Lake are some of the finest views from this place.

Great place to calm you soul. Provide breathtaking views if Kurunegala city. TIP - You can go to the top with a car. (I dont think a kei car wilk make it to the top though). But remember riding with full of passengers can be bit harsh if you go there by a car of course.

Maraluwawa Rajamaha Viharaya is an ancient temple complex lying on the top of Andagala Rock close to the Kurunegala town going as far as King Dutugemunu (161-131 BC). Like a eel, this rock stretches for over 15 kilometers in length giving it a shape of a eel to a person looking at it from ground or from above, giving its name “Andagala” (Eel-Rock). The history of this temple is well documented in the Andagala Copper Plates which is held by the temple. These copper plates have been offered by the king Kirthi Sri Rajasinghe (1747 – 1781) of Kandyan kingdom to the temple. According to the copper plate, this temple has been renovated by the son of the sister of king Dutugenunu, prince Pussadeva. According to this copper plate the king has duplicated the content of a previous copper plate handed over to the temple by king Dutugemunu (161-131 BC) since the original had been decayed over time.

Historical buddhist temple at fully allowed mental freedom with a extremely relaxing uphill view of green environment. So much calm and peaceful environment can be found in this place to worship buddha or visit. Most pleasingly it is not much crowded here even in weekends as it would be a hidden place somewhat for the people who are interested.

👍👍 Great place with memories. Tribute to the soldiers who went from the Wayamba province and sacrificed their lives in the First World War. Love this clock tower.
