It is said that Kuweni cursed King Vijaya and leaped from the summit of this rock hence called yakdessagala. This is close to 540m in height and is one of the highest peaks around Wayamba! Yakdessagala peak is located at the Center of the 20km mountain range which lies along Kurunegala Wariyapola road like a snake.

Moderate Level hike.. easy to find the root. Need more water as its hot up there. Be Careful when climbing and treat the nature well. Don't put waste every where.

Great place for a one day hike. There are two main paths to climb the rock. One starts from Sanweli temple. Other path starts from Seeradunna area. If you're an experienced hiker, this hike is not a difficult one. Once you get to the top, you can see a 360Β° view of the Kurunegala area, consisting of Athugala/Elephant Rock, Adagala,Kuruminiyagala,Dolukanda mountains. On the top of the rock there's no cover, so sunlight will burn you. Make sure to bring water bottles with you, because there's no fountains in here. You can ask for water from the temple politely, they will allow you to fill your water bottles.

Awsome view..you can see a mountain range like knuckles its beautiful😍😍..the place is epicπŸ‘ŒThe hike takes about 2hrs and the last part is steeper than alagalla mountain path and its adventurous and also bit slippery due to dry leaves..better wear shoes 😍πŸ’ͺ.. To climb down it will only take nearly 1hr and 15mins average..You will need lots of water like 1.5 ltrs per person to be well hydrate. Take snacks but never put litter πŸ™ Waiting for sunset will be bit hard coz you have to climb down the rock through the jungle in dark. Sure it will be a remarkable hike in anyones life😍😍😍

This is one of best hikes you can go in kurunegala. You have to catch a bus from kurunegala town. Conductors also know a good place to climb. Because there are few of them.

One of the best day hikes one can make in Sri Lanka. The hike is a bit tough with a few difficult places to climb, but totally worth it once you reach the top. The place boasts of one of the best 360 degrees view from the peak. There are two peaks called Kuda Yakdessawa and Maha Yakdessawa. The place is said to be related to Kuveni's story and hence has a historical importance as well.

Quite a hike.. Almost gave up, but thanks to some lovely people we met on the way up, got on the top.. Very difficult to climb with challenging tree and rock climbing.. Park the vehicle in the temple and go for safety.. Go on a weekend if you are not very experienced.. Can get lost on your own.. No specific path.. View is worth the hike... Breathtaking.. Start climbing early around 6..we got late and the rock was burning.. There are other caves and places are also when to reach the top.. Take adequate water, at least 2 ltrs per person. .. Hike takes 1 1/2 to 2 hrs only to reach the top..

Yakdessagala is close to 540m in height and is one of the highest peaks around Wayamba. It is located at the center of the 20km mountain range which lies. You can see the surroundings in 360 degrees, and after about 10 meters from the road on the left towards Kurunegala, there is a small cave complex and the area is very suitable for overnight camping.

I first came here about 5 years ago and have been here 3 times now. After a 2 hour trek along the footpath near the Sanvili Temple, you can reach the top of the mountain and enjoy a beautiful 360 degree view. Athugala, Dolu Kanda, Nathagane Kanda, Kuvenigala and Adagala are some of the highest peaks in the Kurunegala District. It will be important for climbers to carry more water as there is no water supply on the road to the top of the hill. It is also a place with a very long history and according to folklore there was a Yaksha settlement near this mountain range.
