This is a well-known temple in Kollam, Kottarakkara, with a significant historical significance. Lord Shiva is the principal god. In the temple, one may also observe Lord Ganapathy, Ayyapa, Subramanyan, and others. The Unniyappam at this temple, which costs Rs. 30 a packet, is well-known. The unniyappam is quite tasty. The devotees can observe it being freshly made in front of Lord Ganapathy. You can purchase unniyappam tickets outside the temple and pick up unniyappam there as well. There is one serene and tranquil temple. If you come with kids, it would be a wonderful experience because the pool outside is so lovely and has so many large fish in it.There is one serene and tranquil temple. If you come with kids, it would be a wonderful experience because the pool outside is so lovely and has so many large fish in it. It's simple to get to the temple. There is parking. There are nearby motels where you may get food as well. To access the main shrine, you must take off your shirts and/or t-shirts. You can wear pants, so there is no problem.

This temple is a go-to place for us in every of our road trips! The temple is clean and hygienic. One of the most tasty prasadham in this temple is it's "Unniyappam". The Unniyappam is very tasty. It's just 30rs for a packet of 10. The temple also has a pond which is filled with fishes which tickles you when you are washing your feet in it. The temple also has a wide parking spot and a pay and use toilet beside it. They also have a big stage for shows and religious, cultural activities.

Kottarakara Ganapathy Temple is one of the famous temples in south india with great historical importance. There are many legends about Kottarakara Ganapathy. Actually the main ‘Prathistha'(Idol) is Lord Siva, but Ganapathy is famous here. The exact name of the temple was Kizhakkekara Siva Kshethram. The main deity is none other than Lord Siva himself – Siva facing eastward. In fact Ganapathy is only a minor deity here. But the temple today is famous as a Ganapathy temple rather than a Siva temple.

A better place to visit. One can find happines here by sitting under the Banyan tree infront of the temple. The Calm atmosphere will make both the body and mind pure and calm. Major notable thing here is " Unnniyappam " and everyone had loved it. The taste of the unniyappam will take you to another level.

Sri Maha Ganapathi Temple is very near to Kottarakkara Railway Station, hardly 0.5 km, and is also near to the kottarakkara ksrtc bus station. The main deity is Lord Shiva. Lord Ganapathy, Ayyapa, Subramanyan etc is also seen in the temple. The temple is famous for its Unniyappam, which costs Rs.30 a packet. The unniyappam is really delicious. It is freshly prepared in front of lord Ganapathy, which can be seen by the devotees. The unniyappam ticket counter is just outside the temple, and you can collect unniyappam from inside the temple. The temple is easily accessible. Parking is available. Nearby hotels are also available to have food. You need to remove your shirts ot t shirts to enter the main shrine. You can wer pants, that's not an issue.

"Hari Sri Ganapathaye Namah" Kottarakkara is a place of temples, in which the most famous is 'Sri MahaGanapathi Temple'. The main idol is Shiva but is known for Ganesha. This temple's ancient name was "Manikanteswaram Temple". This is Situated 500 m from railway station and very near to KSRTC bus station. Since not every train passes through Kottarakkara, from 'Kollam Junction Railway station' you could reach by bus of taxi(26 Km). This sreekovil is constructed by master carpenter "Sri Perumthachan". When he was engaged in his work he saw a large firm jack fruit tree root under it. He made a Ganesha idol from it. He worshipped that idol with making a prasada(Unniyappam) with rice flower, kadalippazham(sweetest small banana), coconut and ghee. So the naivedyam(offering) to Ganapati is Unniyappam. Unniappam is made from dawn to dusk if udastamana Pooja is there, otherwise always when the Sreekovil is open. It is made in front of Ganapathi. Breaking coconut is also another offering, to break it infront of Sreekovil you need to have a ticket from the counter. Otherwise there is a place for doing it outside the Sreekovil, inside the Temple. It is said that Kathakali, the world famous art form of Kerala, was first performed here. There is a big story behind this , interested can Google it. There is Kathakali museum near it opens from 9.30 AM to 4+ PM. Note: Those who want to perform udayastamana Pooja get it booked by your parents, when you are a kid. Then only you will get a date before you expires ;-).

Kottarakkara Sree Maha Ganapathy Temple is beautiful and magnificent. A number of rituals is being done here by the priests. Different schedules are followed to worship and to perform the rituals devoted to the presiding deity of the temple. The place that we now call Mahaganapathy temple is actually Kizhakkekara Shiva temple. The main deity is none other than Lord Shiva himself. Shiva is facing eastward. In fact, Ganesha is only a minor deity here. But Kottarakkara Ganapathy Temple today is famous as a Ganesha temple rather than a Shiva temple.

Kottarakkara Mahaganapati Temple is a prominent temple in Kollam district, "Unniyappam" is one of the main offerings of the place. Even if the main diety is Lord Shiva, this temple is celebrated in the name of Lord Ganapathy..

There is a Siva Temple(Ponganpara Sree Mahadeva Temple)at the top of the rock..
