Great location close to the station. Have always been made to feel welcome even just popping in for a drink. All the guys are really nice! Be sure to check out the board on the wall as you walk into the premises. It's on your left and has some good info.

Our experience was terrible. After reading positive reviews, I booked this location for my school group only to find that there was one broken bathroom for 12 people to share, one grimy shower that was also broken, windows that opened so little that there was no airflow on a hot night, and if that wasn't enough, bugs as well. I had personally called to organise the trip, and had been told that the 3 extra people would have a private room. It wasn't. My fellow chaperone found four other unwashed individuals in his room, and the same in the second room. We didn't even stay 20 minutes, and they refused to refund us. My students had been saving a year to go on this trip, and the last hostel was excellent in every way. But this was unacceptable, unsanitary, and unsafe. Great location, great disappointment. PS. Added due to the reply: I had personally phoned and worked out the booking with the person who answered. Saying other showers were available on lower floors doesn't change the reality of sharing one grimy, moldy shower on a whole floor, a broken shower, or of bugs in the rooms.

The hostel looks good, and the location is great. When I checked-in, the old guy with glasses at the reception was quite rude, and that's a bit of a shame. Especially because all the rest of the staff was very nice and helpful!

Sweltering hot mini attic room with too many beds. My top bunk was tiny and uncomfortable, you could not sit up on it as it was squashed right under the roof. Staff opened the fire exit door to the roof but had made no difference on top bed as the air was not moving. I tried everything but every time I turned around the sweat was dripping down my neck. I had asked the female manager (who would not give me her name) twice for another bed (one lower bunk in more open space). She flatly refused although that bed was not occupied so I left at 11PM with nowhere to go. They also refused a refund. Beside this the shower rooms are tiny. And the place is extremely noisy. Avoid.

We spent 3 nights here at Youth Hostel in Cambridge. The location is less than 5 minutes walk to the train station, very convenient. The private room with ensuite is very clean. The bunk bed is on the smaller size for a tall person but it's clean and comfy with the night light for reading. The shower room is clean and the water pressure is excellent. The room is compact and quite small but I can always write my journal and do some reading in the social room. The staffs are all exceptional friendly and approachable. Breakfast was delicious and freshly cooked. The guided walking tour and the punting tour offered thru the Hostel are excellent and great value. However, be prepared to climb a few flights of stairs to your room with the suitcase. I would certainly come back here on my next UK visit to Cambridge. Love the warm hospitality and friendliness from all the staffs, both at the front desk and kitchen staffs, especially Naomi. Thank you.

It's easy to reach, near the center and the staff is trying to be very nice / helpful, but that's all what I can say about its advantages. Very dirty and small rooms. The corners are moldy and everything is covered in dust. In the sanitary areas are hanging funny signs, but the toilets and showers are disgusting. They're stinking and slippery. The food is okay but all plates, glases, cups, bowls are dirty. When we arrived we needed to clean our room, for example the sink, by ourselves . One day water or something similar were dripping from the ceiling down on the table where we were eating...

A big thank you to Leo for taking me in, I had been cycle touring the UK for the past week camping and sleeping in bushes along the way, so apologies if I may have smelled and scared off any guests as I think I overheard some guests asking why on earth he let me stay haha so it was much appreciated to finally get a shower and comfortable bed! Couldn't ask for more thank you Leo

If you are 2 or even one and take a double, expect to sleep in a LOCULO, TOMB, with a greenhouse effect whereby you sweat all night and wake up wanting to escape and in the evening when you come back tired you are afraid of going back in and suffocating!I changed two rooms and one was even worse if that could ever be possible! The same for the noises at all hours of the night due to the creaking floor and the very thin walls. Without counting the noise from the street in the very early hours of the day! in the open space there is Not even a flower or a decoration. inside, the space for sharing is small, it's hot and it's at the entrance.

I just had a night stay in YHA Cambridge, I had booked 2 nights but checked out early. The hostel was nice. The man behind the desk was so unprofessional and rude. His tone was unnecessary and was very stand offish. I was really put off by his apparent "welcome". I visit Cambridge often and use YHA a bit but I won't be returning to this one. I was so tired and exhausted, he made me feel small and rubbish.

We recently stayed three nights here, due to the recent train strikes (Dec’, ‘23). Without the trains from March to Cambridge, my wife was unable to make the trip to work in the City. So we booked a few nights at the YHA. We wanted private rooms. And we got them. The rooms are, admittedly, very small (and the heating was seemingly fixed - we turned it off, but to no effect! - to max’! Our solution; windows open as wide as poss, fan on permanently!), but are clean and functional. It was - for us paups - expensive, but compared with normal hotel prices, it was a massive bargain. Mostly we cooked for ourselves, using the communal kitchen/dining areas. But on one occasion we had the English Breakfast, which was good. The location - very central (close to the railway station and the very cosmopolitan Mill Road [we had a fab curry at The Curry Queen] - is superb. And I was able to park free very nearby (just be sure to move your car before parking enforcement into effect!). The staff (and most other residents) were friendly. And we had an enjoyable little mini-break. Definitely recommended, esp’ for those on a tight budget.

Fair services for fair prices. Central location and friendly staff. Be aware that rooms are not always having a special bathrooms.

Clean room and good service. We had a private en suite room and the bathroom was clean and the shower worked fine. It didn’t include towels or shampoo but towels were cheap to rent. It’s around a 20 minute walk from central Cambridge but there’s lots of good shops nearby still. Staff was helpful. It was a bit noisy at night and you can hear people talking and walking around a lot of the time. It’s very cheap and it’s good for what you pay for.

Great value accommodation. Excellent, friendly staff. Clean rooms. Good location. Recommended for travellers of all ages.

The hostel has the best price out of anywhere you could stay in central Cambridge and while it is a very cookie cutter YHA hostel it barely matters because of that. The staff is helpful and dealt with any issues quickly. One of them even helped me work out a route for a bike trip I wanted to take when Google Maps was giving me weird directions, which was really helpful. I would stay here again.

Nice staffs and affordable price. Great location, just 5 minutes walk to train station. Kitchen is clean and well organized but a bit small.

I was part of a group stay at this location and our experience was absolutely horrendous. We arrived late after a long day of travel, with the hope of a clean bed to refresh ourselves. What we found instead was quite a disappointment. The building was so hot, we could barely breath in the rooms. The rooms stank, there was mold, and only one broken bathroom for a floor to share. We were told our group would have a private room but instead we were made to share a room with strangers which, as teenagers, was unsafe. Our entire group was left with no option but to move to another hotel, in the middle of the night, exhausted. To top everything off, the service was terrible and they refused a refund.

Kind helpful well-informed young people at the check-in/bar, kind helpful quiet people in the dorm, reasonably comfortable facilities, good value breakfast - perfect.

The rooms are dirty and full of dust. I have never sleept so bad in my entire life, the matress is very thin and there are no private Toilettes or showers which makes the visit very unpleasent and uncomfortable

Very good facilities compared to other YHA. Very helpful staff and a great location, right by the station and a fifteen minute walk to the city center. Fully equipped with a kitchen, small library, good lounge, food and drinks, kitchen, courtyard etc...

Been to many hostel. This one is great. Clean, quite room. All the stuff you need (bath, kitchen etc). Short walk to shopping area. Nice hotel managers. We only park on the front for 10 min but wish it have its designated parking area. What else can I ask for hostel?

I've stayed in quite a few hostels and this is probably the most unfriendly one to date. On arrival we were greeted with a scowl by the receptionist and a general unfriendly vibe. This was upsetting as we took 2 hours to get there and were tired. Our room was very small and clean although the walls are very thin and you could hear everything in the corridor. The continental breakfast was a little disappointing and on the second day, the pastries weren't even heated through. This trip was for my husband's birthday but we probably won't ever stay here again and wouldn't recommend.

We visited four of us in en-suite room as a family and has stayed here for two days and extended for another four days. Room is spotlessly clean, staff are so friendly and location is very central. Price is incredibly reasonable. Definitely will come back.

A great meeting place and they serve nice coffees. I've never stayed there so cannot comment on that.

I've stayed here several times and always had a great experience. I visited a few weeks ago and the staff were super friendly. They let us check in to our room early and quickly posted back some left behind luggage. Big thank you. Will definitely stay again.

Nice and quiet little place. They have a coffee and cake deal but there wasn't much left mid-morning. Outside area is very nice.

I brought a small school group to YHA Cambridge for a one night stay as we were taking part in a competition in Cambridge. The YHA head office team was very helpful indeed from the moment I made initial enquiries about the hostel, and the staff at the hostel itself were great. The person who greeted us when we arrived was lovely and helpful, and it was really useful to be able to check our luggage in a locked room while we went to explore the city before our rooms were ready. The rooms themselves were fairly rudimentary but perfectly functional. We were able to book rooms with ensuite bathrooms, which was ideal for our group. One thing worth bearing in mind is that towels aren't included. This wasn't apparent when I made my booking, but I did receive information at some point saying we had to ask for towels at reception and pay £2/towel. Worth bearing in mind when factoring costs in if you're planning for a group, but it wasn't a problem for us. We stayed on a Saturday and found that there was quite a bit of noise coming through the windows from people passing by, but again, this wasn't too much of an issue (though worth bearing in mind if anyone in your party is sensitive to noise). Breakfast was exactly what we needed and what you would expect. It gave us a good start to the day. There is a good social area downstairs, which, again, was useful for our group. I've given 5 stars for everything. Of course, a YHA is not a 5 star hotel, but the rating reflects my view on how well the YHA meets the requirements of a party such as ours. So, if you have a school party and are wondering if YHA Cambridge would suit your needs, I would say: probably! We enjoyed our stay and I'd happily book there again.

Stayed for one single night in room with private bathroom. Pros: clean rooms and communal areas, very close to the central railway station and walking distance to historic centre, excellent price Cons: Check in 3pm - check out 10am, thin walls (I barely had any sleep at all as a group of young gentleman was partying until almost 4am on my floor), reception needs to improve manners surely.

The shower room is too narrow, the hook on wall close to shower head so get wet easily. Every shampoo can only put on the floor. The show head cannot be adjusted and the water temperature changed too fast.

We had a room for 2, it was very very little, and dirty, when we arrived 2 big spiders were hanging :( Also, the bathroom is right on the other side of the wall, with thin wall so we could hear everything. Finally, the receptionist we had was not very welcoming. To me, it was way over-priced (we paid 105€ for 1 night)

The accommodation was basic and cramped (beds were really crammed in and the en suite was so tight I had to turn sideways to squeeze in it!) but okay for the price. What put me off though was the noise...There were several school groups staying at the hostel and whoever was staying in the dorm above me woke up at 2am and started shouting and moving things around for an hour. As I'm told there are often school groups staying here, and they stay for a week at a time, it seemed this was worth knowing. So bad I moved to different accommodation for my second night.

Group of four staying to meet some friends in the city. Staff were really friendly. Room was spotless and exactly what we wanted. Beds were also really comfy. Hostelworld listed it as having Late Checkout, so we got a bit of a shock at 10 when we were told we needed to leave. I’m not sure if we needed to specifically ask for that or if it’s inaccurate? Otherwise brilliant stay and great value.

Poor service. Insisted us to have PCR test, but never informed us upfront. They refused us to check in, and yet charged us for 2 nights. Feedback to their customer service, but they said this is their policy. Will not recommend to book this hotel to avoid this last minute surprise.

Nice place. Good staff. Some questionable guests. The latter, not a reflection of the establishment.

Fabulous hostel, well located for visiting Cambridge on foot. Good value for a family of six in a private room...but room was very warm with little ventilation.

Amazing place to stay. You get to meet many people, the staff is also sweet, as well as the location is nice.

Family with 2 young kids stayed for 2 nights in a private ensuite room. No complain! Great value! Nice and friendly staff and my son just love talking to the chef in the morning. Not 5 stars purely because it is a bit out of the historic centre, tired legs after a hot day out.

Stayed in a regular shared hostel room back in March 2020 during the start of COVID-19. The communal bathroom area could have been better kept - it was not well stocked with soap at the time, and not the most clean. I hope that with better health standards nowadays these small issues can be fixed. The breakfast options were good, however. I enjoyed the variety of offerings.
