The older parts of the mall are underpopulated by relevant brands and run down (and serious hygiene issues caused by, for instance, Macy's claiming every women's restroom was out of order...). The newer parts of the complex - outdoors spaces, Apple Store etc. - are very nice, leading to a somewhat disjointed experience

The newer, outdoor part of the mall is lively and beautifully constructed with ample seating and the requisite fountain and sculptures. Plenty of fun food options with indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor part of the mall is more basic and forgettable with the same old stores you see at every mall across America. The food court, which is the anchor that connects the new mall and the old mall, is expansive and inviting with colorful varied seating and decent upscale fast food choices. Very clean and chill on a Saturday July afternoon.

So glad that this shopping mall was renovated over the past few years. The new shopping areas are clean and beautifully designed, including a large indoor food court area that’s significantly better than before, along with several new restaurant additions.

The shopping mall is a nice place to hang out with friends and family. Most of the time it’s not crowded. There are always some shops not in business every time I visit so it gives me a not-full feeling, as I’m used to the fact that all shops are opened every single day when I was in Asia (so active even on public holidays, and those are the time they get the most customers, always crowded) and Canada (except on public holidays, the Canadians close the entire mall). There are a lot of fun shops and restaurants to enjoy in the dining terrace.

A very good place to shop. I will think twice to name this as a upscale shopping center. You can find some very reputed brands here. There are some very interesting shopping offers here. We visited during the festive season and were happy to see the several offers to choose from. We had a very good shopping experience here and found all that and more what we were looking for. Apart from shopping one can also enjoy a good meal here. There is a food court to help you to satisfy your hunger. We could enjoy hot food. Relax recharge and then continue shopping. And how many malls can boast Bufano sculptures? Improvement needed for accessible parking spaces. Difficult to find in the parking structure.

North Block: A beautifully-planned and executed outdoor park and plaza with fountains and lots of seating. Restaurants galore and tons of garage parking next door. Security is always present due to the Apple store.

This is a great "everything at your finger tips" shopping center. It has all your stores that you need to do a complete day of shopping. I did not get a chance to go to every single store, but the ones I visited were perfect for my needs.

The main shopping area has remained old and unchanged over the years. We still see most of the stores from 10 - 15 years ago. However, there is now a brand new food court and patio. Just this area alone makes it worth to come and shop here.

My very first time to rate a shopping mall. This place is so beautiful. Very clean and neat. Security guards are in every spots. Rest rooms are well kept. Nice water fountains in the middle and exotic indoor tall trees.

While not as large as some of the mega malls being built these days, you can find just about whatever one needs here; Macy's being one of the staple department stores. UPDATE Oct 2022, revisited mall at one end is the Cheese Cake Factory which we ate dinner at and at the other end is a food court. Just outside the food court there is a colorful water fall with additional shops, a bowling alley and movie theater. Nice place to hang out.

A must see store when you are at Hillsdale Shopping Center. The Sock Harbor located on the first floor right in-front of Kiehls is a one stop shop for your gift giving ideas. I have been living in the Bay Area throughout my life and never heard of this mall before. I clearly don’t understand why nobody talks about or go to this mall, but this is one of the best malls to go to in my opinion. The mall has a very nice dining terrace where there are plenty of good food places to go to. As usual, they have Cheesecake Factory, Uncle Tetsu, and Panda Express. The design of that area pars with the one from Westfield Valley Fair Mall since to its modern design. Next to it is the exterior side of the mall. This is better than the one from Westfield Mall at Valley Fair because it has a bigger space for people to hangout and a place for children to play on the grass. There are good shops to go to such as Hot Topic, Macy’s, Apple Store, Zumiez, and GameStop. I am surprised that some shops sell anime products, which is something that doesn’t come across as usual. I highly recommend this mall to anyone who lives in San Mateo or closer to that city. There is plenty to do here!

New extension area next door is modern with lots of open space for gathering, hanging out, and enjoying our generally gorgeous Cali weather. The old mall could use some additional variety of shops, and the new area doesn't need two furniture places (Ethan Allen + West Elm). A modern and hip shopping area (think Santana Row in San Jose) adjacent to the older Hillsdale mall. Unlike the traditional mall format, this area is mostly outdoors, so kids and pets can run around the middle area surrounded by the shops. We went to Winner Winner for dinner and has some great fried chicken sandwiches and loaded fries. The portion size was generous and the cook on the chicken was really good. We also tried the quarter chicken which was well seasoned and equally delicious. Staff was really friendly and welcoming. Food came out fast
