It feels wrong to mark your experience as "loved it" for such a somber trip. It is however a trip everyone should make at least once in their life. Soon people who survived this horror will not be among us. It's important we remember and never let something like that happen again.

A must see in Poland. There is so much history here. It's a much more real experience to see the remnants first hand than to learn about it in school.

Everyone that comes to Poland should visit this place. It's the most important historical event in recent European history. Easy accessible by own car or public? Busses from Krakow. Parking was 18 Zloty, 4 euro. Tickets have to be bought online before the visit. I would advise to pay for a guide to get extra information.

I am glad they didn’t destroy it after the war because it was very educational and I feel like everyone should visit and learn about the horrors of the past just so that they won’t be repeated. It’s a bit hard to process from the outside - at least for me it was. It was a beautiful sunny day when I went and like I knew where I was but it didn’t fully kick in until we went inside the blocks - that’s where you can really get a feel of the place. I feel like the pictures on the walls in one of the blocks is what broke me the most (more than the hair or the offspring shoes etc) - some of the people clearly had hope in their eyes. And it was heartbreaking to see such hopeful beautiful people portrayed considering what they had to go through.

The staff were pretty harsh, the food wasn't very good overall and very limited. 1/10 will not be going again. Room service was the worst part of the whole experience. The best part was probably the free communal showers.

I went there today and wanted to enter the camp without a guide. Despite having visited the official site off the camp and an info point in Krakow, nobody told me that the available times to enter without a guide are from 12:00 until 15:00 and so I found out when I got there (after 1,5 hour trip by bus). Moreover, if one wants to visit Birkenau, has to buy a ticket from Auswitch. I've been to Dachau and everything was for free. Truly disappointed from the whole experience.

It's worth going here to get some understanding of the scale and suffering that Jews and others had handed out by the Nazis during their time in power. Walking around the camp just shows what man can do to fellow man. The suffering and death on an industrial scale. The museum does well to preserve the past so we don't forget. There is a lot of walking involved so plan ahead especially if you take a guided tour as they move quickly but do give you lots of information about the camp and the people who went through the gates, many for the last time.

Got sent home after a 5 hour long train trip because I was dressed ‘inappropiate’. I was wearing a long jeans with a normal shirt and fitflops (because it was warm). While other people were wearing tank tops and shorts, there was no discussion possible with the security guard.

I've visited and photographed many places around the world but none as eerie, emotional and as moving as the concentration camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Sad as it is I'm pleased that it has been so well preserved and maintained all these years as a memorial and museum of the shocking and evil atrocities that happened during the Holocaust in this part of the world, a terrible period in our recent history. I don't think I need to say much more and will leave it to my photos to do all the talking. I have to add that it was very difficult for me to take photos, but I felt overwhelmingly compelled to do so. However these photos are no substitute at all for being there, feeling it and seeing it with your own eyes. Visiting Auschwitz is a very touching and sobering experience. Some tips: * Buy your entry tickets online to avoid the queues * Get there early to avoid the masses * Take only a small bag with you * If you visit in winter dress warmly * Eat well before visiting. * Do the organized guided tour

If you are visiting Poland, this is a must see. It's difficult to review a place such as this but it is incredibly important to see the history here. When I went, we had our cousin's grandfather as our tour guide and he was able to tell us some important stories as we walked through the grounds. Absolutely walk through with a tour guide to get as much out of this experience as you can. Words can hardly describe what you see and feel here so going for yourself is the best advice I can offer.

Can’t describe how saddening it is but a must to visit to learn and see how people were treated during this time. It is extremely well kept and the guides are really knowledgable. You can buy guidebooks yourself and wander around take it in in your own pace or follow a guide and tour around. Honestly it feels weird to give it 5 stars but it is something I will never forget and I hope that we learn from this tragic place.

Easy to reach from Krakow, it deserves at least three hours of visit including the near Birkenau camp. Exhibitions are very well organized and documented. I'd have preferred to be alone in the visit, but I appreciated very much the guided tour lead by Lukasz Celta.

I am giving five stars mainly due to the fact that many people and organisations have taken concrete steps to ensure people don't forget what happened here during WWII. This place is a reminder of the darkest side of human nature, to torture and kill another human for the heck of it.. I would recommend this visit to everyone, and to soak in the history that took place not so long ago.

This is a very sad experience. But I do recommend everyone to visit once in a lifetime. I learnt about it in a history lesson, but seeing it for real was just something else. The scale of it is just mad. There was 2 camps, second camp had more than 300 buildings. They were killing almost 5k people a day, in a gas chamber they fit 700 people at a time 😮 Its just crazy to see all the shoes of people who died there. And crazy to see the gas chamber. We all need to see the scale of it and learn from it so the history wont repeat itself... In the second camp, last building we entered was the barrack of ill women, it was called the death barrack, all of them were ill or unable to work, they were getting no food or water and if the barrack was full they were made to stay outside in a yard and wait to be taken to the gas chamber. Most of them died there in a barrack. It's so cruel. The free car park not in use. All car parks around is approx 30zloty. There is massive queue to get it, takes forever due to amount of people visiting. To get in need to go thru security like in the airport. Then there is audio tour. Our guide was not great, was hard to hear her as she didnt hold microphone properly. Was way too many people and very long backlog so we skipped quite few barracks. Once we got to second camp by bus our tour guide didnt wait for everyone so we got lost. Not very well organised tbh. After 1pm most days can visit camps without tour guides and it is free. This place would give chills to everyone.

Probably one of the most badly organised tourist destinations in the world ! Always wanted to visit but was very disappointed, the complete cluster fxxk of the main entry, the inability to secure private tickets in advance via a official site, this resulted in almost 45 min to wait in a outdoor line until we could get to the ticket office and then another 2 hour wait until our time slot to actually get through the gate. I'd gladly pay €5-10 for advance tickets if I could get a guaranteed time to get in when I arrive. Once in there was no real flow or direction of what to see or what order to see it in. The official map was about as much use as sand in a desert, honestly a 5 year old could have drawn a better plan. Inside large tour groups dominated all the various things to see and we were often barged out of the way or unable to pass them while they blocked doors or things to see. My impression of the place has been ruined by visiting it and then when coming out, they don't even have clear signage where to get public transport back or a covered bus stop. The urban planner / architect who designed the new entrance and coach part obviously never tried visiting as a tourist.

A trip to Krakow included a day trip to most notorious concentration camp of WW2. However, despite my rather impressionable nature, I was not overwhelmed with grief. Rather, it was sadness about the lost people, but the place itself does not evoke too much sadness. The 10 minute movie that was shown just before the tour was more impressive. Especially the question - how did we, the people of enlightened Europe, allow this to happen on our territory? The answer, alas, is not within the walls of the museum. I suggest to add some effects, might be only sound or visual within QR code, etc, so them might create a thorn in visitors' hearts.

Incredibly somber and emotional experience. Seeing the scale of what happened here is overwhelming. We visited on a nice sunny day, but I couldn’t help but feel what the conditions must have felt like for those held within the camp during the harsh polish winters. A must see for anyone to remind us of what happened and try to ensure it can never happen again.

Rich in history and stories. A tour guide can guide you through the area, but it did feel a bit rushed for me. I don't think I got enough time to look at all the artifacts. Despite this, there were so many people to visit. My guess is thousands at least per day in summer. If you need a wheelchair, you won't be able to enter many buildings due to stairs. Most of the history is inside the buildings where the artifacts are housed.

Place every person should visit. The tortures, forced labour & extermination of people in this and other camps was happening only 80 years ago in central Europe! Seeing & listening about what victims went through certainly puts many aspects of life in perspective and educates on the extend of evil that people are capable of. May we never forget. Visiting with tour guide recommended.

Thank you kindly to our tour guide Ms. Iwona for amazing yet very emotional journey through the museum. The tour with a guide takes about 3.5 hours which allows to see a few buildings but if anyone would like to see all of the museum, they should come for 2 days. There is no way to see it all in a few hours or even 1 day.

A huge museum, which is being restored to this day and is still being preserved. Book the tour in advance because you can get alone and for free only after 15:00. We got a very nice girl guide, it was very interesting and pleasant to listen to. We visited both camps, the total tour took about 4 hours. This place is very atmospheric, creepy. It is obligatory for everyone to visit, you need to know and not forget the history so that there are no more such things.

It is very difficult to "star rate" something of that magnitude, a place where so many lifes have been taken. I am giving 5stars but everyone needs to visit the place, experience it and come to personal conclusions and revelations. Taking aside the camp and its tragic events and stories, I can say that the place is well organized, with easy access, plenty of parking spaces and helpful and friendly staff. There are guides and tours and many things are translated into many languages. One word of a warning so to speak - when you decide to visit the camp, be prepared that this is not going to be your happiest day... Still, very much worth to see.

Impressiv! Very enriching but extreamly sad at the same time. Chilling and very emotional. It's important to go there at least once, to know the history, know what happened, raise awareness of the subject and make sure it never happens again. You see it differently as in history class. The visit lasted for 6 hours but we didn't see the time pass. The guide was on top! They are very well organized. But people have to be mentaly strong for such a visit, because it isn't easy.

I remember coming here four years ago with my college and a college we partnered with. I remember pulling up in the bus with the other students and my heart bang to race knowing that I was going to walk into a place where millions of lives were taken. We step off the bus got into our groups and began the tour. When I looked up and saw the sign "work will make you free," we walked through the first building seeing all the different artifacts that were left behind. The building that I had the most trouble in was the artifact building where you can see the hair, shoes, suitcases, glasses, clothes, etc. When the tour got to the children's section I broked down and began to cry. The rest of the tour was listening to the different stories of those who died and how they tried to escape. I will never forget that day for the rest of my life.

Fascinating memorial. We visited for half a day on our own without a tour. To reach the memorial you can take the bus from Krakow. Seems to be possible to book in advance however we paid on the bus itself. On arrival a free visitor pass is available, some tours were available too. Visitor passes are claimed to be available only before 10am. Overall I suspect it’s fine to visit on your own and it’s much cheaper. 👌

Absolutely great experience. The place is very big with so many buildings and different objects to remember the fallen. Many countries also have a special building dedicated to them to remember their sacrifices and the unfortunate ones who were sent there. The resistance was also remembered among many other things. Haunting yes but also hugely important as how it was beautifully said : It is enough for the good people to just look away for the evil to win.

Was a great experience. Very emotional. The organization has a done a good job preserving and maintenance of the place. Everyone should visit this place at least once in their lives to get a glimpse of what history was like and be grateful for what we have now.

Powerful to say the least! This was part of my bucket list of places to visit and WOW it did not disappoint. Moving does not do this place justice, understanding what the Jews, gypsies and other minorities went through during the Second World War, you can watch as many documentaries as you like but actually walking in their footsteps really does bring it home…..Unforgettable

A must see bucket list destination. Just coming here it has an almost eerie feel to it. Very glad I came, and made time. The Auschwitz camp is a lot less walking than the Birkenau camp, but bring walking shoes if you're planning on doing both. Start at the South East Auschwitz 1 camp, you need tickets here first (it's free if you bring an id, my passport got me in free) but you cannot get into the Birkenau camp without the ticket. Plan for well over an hour and a half if you plan on getting through everything, and last thing, there's a free shuttle that goes between the 2 camps, and it starts getting dark here close to 4pm. Hope this helps!

Go experience to visit this sad place. We must learn from history.

  • 2/5 Mikkel J. 9 months ago on Google
Let me begin by stating that my review is not about Auschwitz itself, but rather about the tourist experience and management. Auschwitz is an incredibly significant historical site that I believe everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. My visit took place in July 2023, during the high season, and unfortunately, the parking situation was quite chaotic. The parking lot was completely full, and I encountered a few individuals (Karen's) who were standing in parking spaces claiming it was theirs without a car in it. So if you plan on visiting by car, I recommend coming during less crowded times to avoid any inconvenience. While purchasing a tour, I found the guides to be polite and helpful. However, some of them struggled with English, which made it challenging to fully grasp the information they were conveying. As a tip, I suggest considering the free pass option after 16:00, as it allows for a longer visit than the advertised 15 minutes. One important aspect to keep in mind when visiting Auschwitz is to show respect. Unfortunately, I noticed several people taking pictures and selfies, which felt inappropriate given the somber nature of the place. It's crucial to put your phone away and truly pay your respects. Additionally, I was disheartened to witness some tourists writing their names on the camp walls. This behavior is utterly disrespectful and should never be done. Overall, while there were some issues with the parking and language barriers, visiting Auschwitz remains a profoundly impactful experience. I urge everyone to approach the site with reverence and honor the memory of those who suffered there."

👍👍 The Auschwitz Jewish Museum tells a story that is often overlooked when people talk about Auschwitz. It presents the story of Jewish life before WW2 and even after. If you ever find yourself visiting Oświęcim and the concentration camp, definitely also pay this museum a visit.
