Very eye opening, educational and emotional place. Shows evidence of all the horrible things that happened during the WWII. Definitely something everyone should see at least once in their life. Get a tour guide because there's a lot to see and you might get lost

Incredible place to visit. I was astonished from beginning until the end. Highly recommended to take a study tour throughout both camps. May we never forget this horrible event.

Today's experience was really informative. Marta our guide was so good, well informed and treated what is a very difficult subject with grace and tact. You cannot enjoy this sort of visit in the normal way but everyone should go once. You can learn by reading, but although you'll never know the true suffering, you could only do that through experience, Marta helped you get as close as you would ever want. A moving, thought provoking tour and in today's world an apt lesson in what can happen I f we allow it.

I would recommend to get a tour guide in a language that you understand. It would not be as interesting without the guide. They tell you the history about each building in the camp as you walk around and they also explain general history of Auschwitz (how it started and ended). I would also recommend to buy the tickets online (simple and easy to get in without any queues). Make sure to bring your ID or passport too!

Visiting here has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. I am so thankful I finally got to visit this place with so much history. I think they did a pretty good job of trying to not commercialize it, while still giving thousands of people tours a day. I appreciated the headphones to be able to hear the tour guide, and I think it also helped to keep the chitchat down to keep the quiet seriousness this place deserves. They did a great job of putting the information out there and displaying items. It is definitely worth the visit if the Holocaust is of any importance to you.

An experience I shall never forget, extremely thought-provoking. The tour guide explained how the toilet facilities could only be used morning and evening. There was no privacy at all being in rows. Sleeping arrangements were 10 per bunk bed. The conditions were appalling. We saw the railway carriage that brought the prisoners in, and its just dreadful to think they were marched straight to the gas chamber with only a stop to strip and have possessions taking from them. This is a tourist attraction like no other, a stark reminder, and somewhere I feel we should all visit ♥️

Important to visit for historical purposes, but has a very negative atmosphere and not suitable for kids who don't understand the meaning of this place. There are two parts to the museum: Aushwitz I and Auswitz II (Birkenau). Aushwitz I can be visited only with the ticket (can be bought online) and during covid 19 only with the guide. Then there is a free bus that takes the groups to Birkenau a few kilometers away where entrance is free, but is not enough for the full experience. Aushwitz I has brick barracks, expositions of photos and things of prisoners. Birkenau is a memorial site with a few barracks and a collapsed crematorium (gas chamber) and a monument for all the people that suffered in the camps.

A place that everyone should visit. Heartbreaking and mind provoking. Still apart of history that I will never get my head around. The dispire and sadness is so overwhelming. The memorabilia is just outstanding and preserved. It's crazy to have walked the same grounds that many have lost their lives on. Went with an English guide. Very informative. Only thing that annoyed me was the interference on head phones when other groups were near by. If you go left too behind from your guide it would break the signal so you couldn't hear him.

(Translated by Google) I am writing this review a few days from January 27th. I was here about 5 years ago, you won't be able to tell what you saw without a lump in your throat, you will identify with one of those people. You will never forget it again, you will encourage any of your friends to have your experience. I intend to return as soon as Covid is a distant memory. It's stronger than me. Not to forget, for them. I find it odd that anyone could "love" this place. It is quite simply an historic & poignant place that everyone should visit at some time to ensure no such atrocities ever occur again. By the time we got here from Auscwitz itself, it was "magic hour" for taking photographs with beautiful lighting.

A place for sombre reflection, not Instagram Selfies and happy group photos. Reviewing somewhere Auschwitz-Birkenau is always going to be tough. The first thing to recognise is that Auschwitz and Birkenau are separate camps and in different locations, though they are near to each other so it's logical and a good plan to do both. Please do respect the sombre natures of these places and treat them as you would a cemetery, taking the time to absorb the history and reflect on the horror these places represent. Especially the racism and intolerance of minority peoples that lead to this, so examine yourself for those biases and structural & casual racism you might inadvertently participate in. I found the self-guided tours around Auschwitz and Birkenau suited me because I already knew a lot of the history and statistical information. If you don't however, then I do recommend you attend one of the guided tours as they'll provide you with a wealth of information that will help add the context to what you're seeing. Be prepared for an emotionally draining drain, be prepared for it to effect you.

(Translated by Google) Birkenau Concentration Camp ──If you have a chance, please visit. You don't have to think about difficult things. What happened here, who did what to whom. I want you to feel what is in front of you with your own eyes, ears, and nose, with your head empty. I think it's good to think after that. You don't have to rush to come to a conclusion. There are quite a few things that you will find out later. It is definitely recommended to ask Mr. Nakatani, a local Japanese guide, for guidance. Jump in NG. Please make a reservation in advance. If time permits, it's a good idea to stroll around the camp's ordinary streets. It's a really ordinary residential area. There may be something to feel in the contrast between darkness and lightness.

A five star rating is given because the management have gone in great lengths to preserve a part of history that every human must take time and visit. It is an example of the cruel side of being a human! It hits you mentally if you pay attention and physically as it is a lot of ground to cover..

We took a tour of Auschwitz and the second part of the tour took place in Birkenau. We had to take a bus to get there from Auscwitz I and the shuttle bus was super overcrowded (it runs every 10mins), especially not appropriate during covid time. The place is well maintained and you can walk around freely. There is a memorial, 'houses' were prisoners lived, one of which is accesible for visitors to go in and a railway by which the prisoners came into camp. I would recommend to get a tour guide to explain the history behind the place. We easily booked the tour via their web page.

You have to see and feel this once in your lifetime. It is difficult to accept everything that happened there. Especially when it looks like a beautiful campsite for school children. (Except all the lookout posts and barbwire surrounding the place.) It looks peaceful and serene until you see all the evidence of the extreme cruelty that has taken place there.

Very hard to describe this place...but worth visiting. There is a lot of walking and not suitable if you are not able to manage stairs due to terrain and going up and down the various displays in the old barrack buildings. Visited on a hot August day and it was very crowded. Museum had out standing fans in many rooms as very hot inside. Would recommend buying tickets in advance.

Truly beautiful. Incredible restoration and preservation to ensure that the story remains so we don't forget. A must visit that everyone should come to atleast once in their life. Tour guides were extremely friendly and well knowledged. Horrific and touching. An uncomfortable tour that is much needed to ensure we remember those that were massacred.

The presentation of Aushwitz is unbelievable. The history is in your face and you can see the experience of those who were imprisoned in these camps. You must go with a tour group, which is worthwhile as you can get a local who knows their stuff. There are various exhibits throughout the camp ranging from the arrival to the camp to the victims of the camp. It is a surreal experience standing in the gas chamber, you are fearful and have empathy for those who lost their lives in the chamber. We went in winter and their was snow and I highly suggest you bring some warm, think clothing and a wind breaker.

A tour you must take during your own life time so the poor souls can continue to be remembered😢 I knew a bit of the history and the basics of what happened. The tour really opened my eyes and mind. Very thought provoking. Very upsetting in parts. But I'm glad I made the effort to get a better understanding. I reccomend a guided tour. The guides speak perfect English. Small groups(20) and headset so easy to hear.

(Translated by Google) Definitely a place to see if you go to Krakow. Tours are well organized, but the ticket office is a disaster; in any case during the Covid period. That said, thanks to Covid, there were fewer tourists, which was advantageous. I had been to take photographs, the guided tours are so few that I have not had the opportunity to take a lot of pictures. Either you do the guided tour in the morning, and the photos, in the afternoon, or you try to take your photos all the time during the visit (so, it makes a lot of movement).

It was a wonderful experience. The guides are so professional. They walk you through every corner of the museum and explain everything to you in depth. The whole tour will be walked using a wireless headphones on which the guide will be talking to the visitors through a transmission device. All the device are sanetised and maintained properly. I would love to explain my experience but that will take away the surprise elements of going through the whole tour in person. Everyone must go see it and learn a little bit of the History through this museum. Thanks for the authorities for maintaining it so well and helping the future generation to learn through it.

This is a must see place. Auschwitz had over 1.1 million people killed and then burned. Why?Because one powerful leader said this is what I want to have happen. We are watching a similar thing happen to the east of Krakow in Ukraine. The start was small. First the killings in Auschwitz were in the hundreds. Then in the thousands. The fields to the north of the camp were filled with soldiers. Once the fields were so full of the dead and mass graves, the Camp officials needed more land and different “solutions”. Their ultimate solutions were gas the incoming people to speed up the number of deaths. And burn the bodies to so they didn’t need more land for graves. It also contained the evidence. The camp could never be straightforward about what they were doing. Will this pattern be followed with Russia in 2022 and 2023? Will philosophies of one man terminate the life of unimaginable humans with incomprehensible reasoning? Will the “Issues” and “solutions” be remarkably similar? Will leaders of powerful countries determine that this isn’t our fight, we are working on the problem, don’t buy all the unverified news, our hands are tied, we will be meeting about solutions, the coalition is forming, and other none committal catch phrases. This camp is a reminder that history can repeat. As I walk the grounds I could feel the spirits of thousands. Men, women, and children. When these people are resurrected, and the guards and soldiers are resurrected, I wonder what the meaning will be like?

You've probably seen hundreds of photo's of Auschwitz but none of them will convey the feeling you get visiting. It's immensely moving, a place anyone with any interest should visit in their lifetime. The tours are extremely well organised, you can book them in your chosen language and you cannot visit without a guide. Be prepared for a lot of walking, it's about 4 hours in total. Take identification with you and no large bags.

Auschwitz is certainly a place many people do not understand unless you’ve visited. We thought we knew, but now we know so much more and appreciate the better perspective we now have after visiting. As a world and as a country (U.S.), we cannot repeat what took place in Auschwitz and across Europe during World War II. Visitation along with the preservation efforts at Auschwitz are key for humankind to remember and reflect on what not to let happen again.

Very atmospheric t impressive place. I want to show you how to save money. Can be reached by bus from the center of Krakow for a penny. after 16:00 admission is free. Don't forget to bring your ID or passport. A free yellow bus runs between Auschwitz and Birgenau every 5 minutes. Do not buy expensive tours online. you can save a lot by using my tips. if you want a guide, you can join a group of tourists with a guide for free.

A heart rendering reminder of what happened to the Jewish community. Our tour guide Dorota was very good and explained all the areas we visited. Good visual displays which really give you a sense of what happened. A memory that will live with me forever. Personally I would recommend an organised trip as there is no wait for you. You do go through airport style security there and make sure you take some official ID (I e. passport or driving licence) as it is checked.

Definitely a must see. There is a lot of walking outdoors to get to the different buildings so make sure you wear comfy shoes and dress for the weather. The signs are in English and polish but you can get an audio guide for many different languages. Book in advance to avoid waiting times as it can get very busy. I wouldn't recommend to take kids under 16 years old

Very rushed, there are many tours, no time to reflect on anything. Presentation very old school and a bit cold. Place needs serious updating with modern multimedia, and pace of the tour needs to be less rushed, and with more opportunities to reflect and rest without being herded through like cattle.

This was a history trip for me. Its hard to know what to say about it. It was raining and windy and I suppose that Just added to the atmosphere. I guess the best I can say is that it was well preserved and possibly a place everybody should visit. If you do go just please be respectful. I went as a tour group but hope to revist alone. The tour guides did a fantastic job but I found the real feel for the place came when I stayed back in a room or place alone. I want to say more but everything I could say feels slightly cheap. I'm glad I went.

Auschwitz-Birkenau was a very interesting experience. To visit the place is to live history. We are Brazilian and we took the guided tour in Spanish, we understand the whole explanation. we went there on a summer day it was very hot, I recommend doing this tour on a cooler day.

(Translated by Google) A place even more depressing than camp I. It shows how huge the camp was and how many people, especially defenseless people, lost their dignity and lives in this place. Let us remember about this in order to prevent such a situation from happening again .. everyone who comes here will leave with a completely different view of life so far. He will start to notice and enjoy what he has and at what time he lives .. a very, very depressing place ..

History can never forget this place, because if we do then humanity is doomed forever, I've read books, watched movies, and learned History about Auschwits but actually being here didn't prepare me for the emotional distress you feel when you hear about the suffering 😢 not just for the Jewish but the 200,000 polish prisoners aswell, men, women, children and babies. Please LETS NEVER LET ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN AGAIN 🙏😔

Incredible tour. I'd recommend you book your tour online, it saves a great amount of time and if you buy it in the place check that they give you the ticket. Without the ticket they won't give you the device you need to take the tour (you can get it after you meet with your tour guide if you tell them you forgot to grab it). The tour lasts 3,5 hours however I recommend that you book a hotel in Oświęcim so you can spend the whole day or more exploring the expositions and the camps, as the tour doesn't cover them all, it is huge (40 square km) there are 2 camps, Auschwitz and Birkenau, the bus is free, you can catch the bus every 15 min from inside de camp. There is also a smaller camp and some museums outside. Remember to get 30 min before your tour as there is a lot of security to enter, it's like an airport. Take water and snacks with you, there is a small place you can buy snacks and drinks inside the camp but it's quite expensive. Wear comfortable shoes, you will walk a lot, and take something to protect your head from the sun or rain, weather can be unpredictable. I won't write about the camp itself as I think that's something for you to interpret and the experience is different for everyone but in general it's very impressive. The tour in our case (Spanish) was amazing, very informative, our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the camp and he was able to express it in a very efficient and interesting way, even my 8-year-old kid was interested. They recommend you not to take children below 13 however I believe it is important for them to know the history so they can know what humans are capable of and try to prevent a tragedy like this to happen again.. In my opinion every school should organize a trip to this place. I believe everyone should go to this place at least once in their lives, as George Santayana wisely said: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

We loved our visit. It is impressive to say the least and worth the travel. I think that everybody should visit this place at least once in their lifetime. Tip, when you are planning to go with children (13yr and older), inform them about the place. Show them documantairies or books about the camp. This will help them to understand this confronting place.

must visit place, must visit it! firstly go to the Auschwith I and then in that tour you get Auschwitz-birkenau. I didn’t want tour with guider but it is not interesting if you go without one. So I really recommended guider. You can choose guide tour on english, deutsch, polish.. Take your student card if you have one it is much cheaper then.. Tour for 3.5h is enough but if u want see more and hear more there is 6h tours. You can get all the information on their official page.

It left me speechless. I am deeply touched and horrified, even much more than after everything I have ever read .... To see and feel this enormous amount of human pain - and at the same time the worst face of humanity - hurst my soul through the end. Everyone should visit this place. God help us all. 🙏❤️

The most interesting historical place I’ve ever been. We had a lovely Polish English speaking tour guide. She spoke with such compassion as she walked us through each area of Auschwitz and Birkenau. You could imagine and feel every part of the torture these poor people went through. The true depth of Hitlers evil could is immeasurable but I’m so pleased to have been able to come here to pay respects to the worlds most awful war. For the souls that rest may you continue to rest in peace.

it is very difficult and blinding emotions you get when you walk around and try to imagine what those poor people had experienced. It is a miracle if they had survived that relationship. One must see the place for the sake of humanity, so that our world does not experience the same tragedy again.

Although visiting Auschwitz is a difficult experience, is a must see when you are around here. Everyone should visit a place like this at least once in their life to build conscience. Very impressive and touching. Was a moment to practise solidarity with the victims of this horror.

Sobering experience which is a must-do for anyone in their lifetime. Went with a guided tour and our guide, Joanna, was incredibly knowledgeable and gave very clear explanations throughout the tour. There are very few reproductions (most is all original) such as gallows and these are clearly explained.

A must place to visit while in Poland. If you love history, you definitely should need to visit this place. Your tour will take about 4 hours as it is divided in 2 parts. Aushwitz 1 and extension of aushwitz part 2 which is the extension to part 1. You will have assigned a tour leader to a preferred language of yours. Although it is very sorrowful to see what has happened in the past on a holiday, it s very remarkable to learn from our mistakes so such things will never happen again.

A very thought provoking place. Our guide was excellent and gave us lots of information about what happened here. So sad to think of the plight of all those who were sent to the camp during the war. The experience will stay with me always 💔

A unique experience, a very special experience, a lifetime experience. Entrance to the two camps, Auschwitz 1 and Auschwitz 2, is free, but I recommend taking a guide. Without a guide, you can walk around peacefully, but don't learn much information or stories from the camps. The guide costs 15 euros, the transport between the two camps is free, with a bus, and the whole tour takes about three and a half hours. I recommend with great confidence, go and visit this open-air museum, a real life experience!

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” - This known memento of George Santayana appears on tablets in many places. Everyone should come here to see what humanity at its worst can do. An amazing place open to the public to remember and reflect

Sobering and heartbreaking standing in the place where over a million people were murdered. Incredible place (along with Auschwitz I) which is kept well. Our guide was very interesting and incredibly knowledgeable.

Very humbling experience. 1100000 people were sent to this place. It really sinks in when you see the 100s and thousands of shoes that used to belong to people, children's and babies clothes. Make sure that you take water when hot. The first tour takes 1hr and 40 mins in and out of buildings. The second takes 40 mins almost all of it outdoors. There are numerous groups going through. You need to wait for the correct for guide that speaks your language

Well worth the 25000 steps and taking in the sheer magnitude of the horrific happenings. Sad and solumn with memories that imprint and imparting of knowledge and learning that enables the acceptance of modern day freedom and expression.

I visited with a tour provided by 'Hello Cracow'. They communicated well and our chaperone, Michael was excellent in getting us to the right place at the right time. He provided a packed lunch which was ample for the day. The tour was done by a guide from the camp who was very knowledgable. The tours however involve a lot of walking and at quite a pace due to the number of visitors. Because of this, I feel the impact of what happened here was reduced, which is a pity as I think everyone should visit. A little more time for reflection would be good.

  • 5/5 Stephen M. 5 months ago on Google
A very sobering experience, no one spoke on the tour as we listened to the guide explain how the two camps came to be and operated. Pure evil. Pictures just to help you decide to visit, which you should if you can.

Buy tickets in advance! After spending 1.5h+ in line, they run out of tickets. This is not a beautiful place to visit. It's disturbing.... Excelent group coordination. Take advice that you'll be staying for at least 4-5 hours, so plan well your trip

We took self guided tour with guide book for both Auschwitz I and II. Auschwitz 1 is smaller but well preserved with museum and exhibition. Auschwitz 2 - Birkenau is larger compound with only some preserved buildings like barracks, but the gate is a must see.
