Even among its peers, this is outstanding. We have been twice and are already planning to return. It’s a 14 course tasting menu. Every dish is expertly crafted. The joy of food like this is huge array of tastes. Nothing bland. To get the most my advice is… do not list things you don’t like. Open your heart to all the possibilities. I’m not a big fan of cucumber, but I’d eat it all day if I could work their magic on it. We had the middle wine pairing. It’s very good and I liked the variety. A bit too much white for me but very interesting. The service is very attentive. The staff are clearly very well trained but not aloof or snobby. This really is an 11 out of 10 experience.

AMAZING! One of the best meals I've ever had. Definitely worth the 3 stars. Just every course was a taste delight. The signature wine pairing is as must, as is the cheese trolley and if you can the wine pairing for the cheese also. I would also recommend the soft drink pairing, some really interesting drinks and makes a nice change of drink if you have a designated driver! The theatre around the mint teas and coffees was also brilliant. Just the best food experience, unpretentious, amazing menu.

Amazing… I could literally leave my review at that and it would be enough, but I will go into more detail as I feel I owe you more and it would make a fairly rubbish review just writing one word. From the moment we arrived and found the understated entrance to the moment we left we had such an incredible experience. As you walked through the door we were greeted by a plethora of friendly faces. Our coats were taken and we were shown to our tables, you could tell from the outset how friendly and welcoming the staff were. Everyone was really chilled and relaxed, happy to have a chat and give you any and all the info you required for what was about to be one of the best evenings of your life. The drinks were explained and the format of the evening was laid out for your table. Sat in the middle of the table was a menu in a sealed envelope and we were advised it’s best just to have the surprise of the courses rather than preparing ourselves. So this is what we did. From there on in, from the Amuse Bouche to the Deserts, course after course of sumptuous delectable delights just kept flowing, the others round the table had wine pairing, I unfortunately was the designated driver but I had some lovely mocktails. We spoke to so many really friendly staff members and we even got to meet Simon Rogan which was a really treat and he and the kitchen staff signed my menu which I can’t tell you how much this added to my experience. I am definitely going to save up to go here again. It was by far the best food experience of 2023 and what a way to end the year.

Unbelievable experience! Far exceeded our already high expectations. Best food and dining experience by a country mile. We had the 14-course tasting menu for lunch with a cheese course thrown in for good measure and the wine tasting flight. They‘ve clearly put an incredible amount of thought into the menu, provenance/sustainability of ingredients, and blend of flavours. Every single thing we ate was absolutely delicious. Whilst I wouldn’t ordinarily choose a number of the wines to drink by themselves, the pairings were intelligent and complementary. The team of service staff are young, friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They were professional and showed wonderful attention to detail, yet approachable and chatty. They brought together the whole afternoon. 4.5 hours after arriving, the 4 of us walked out grinning cheek-to-cheek. Thank you so much.

Absolutely wonderful! The hype is real. We had the 8 course lunch taster with the wine flight. The Berkswell (?) Pudding was a firm favourite, and the staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Obviously it isn't the cheapest place, but you get what you pay for (and more!)

A milestone birthday treat and the whole experience was very special. The service was faultless and friendly from checking in to our room at L'Enclume House to leaving after breakfast at Rogan & Co. Very relaxed atmosphere added to our enjoyment . Not at all stuffy. As for the food - two words - epic and sublime. Each course a work of art, immaculately presented with such an array of textures and tastes. And as one would hope... memorable. We also loved the way breakfast was served the following morning. No menu but an array of tasty things delivered to our table - best described as a breakfast picnic with hit and cold dishes. The final touch was freshly made cranberry cookies in a bag to take away with us.

I've never had a 3* dining experience before and this completely blew me away. Everything was beyond my expectations; depth of flavours, variety of dishes, presentation, service, welcome, knowledge of the food, surroundings, wines and the understated dining environment. The visit to the kitchen was a particular treat which I wasn't expecting. My partner and I spent 4 and a half hours here and every moment was a sensory treat.

We had lunch on a weekday and arrived early as we weren't too sure we could rely on the local taxis (as it turned out, nothing to worry about!) - we were greeted by Graham, who couldn't have been warmer and more charming. It was great watching such a professional service team work in such harmony - absolutely everything was taken care of, so smoothly and we really felt at home. Some of the other reviews seem to criticize the price. Yes, it's incredibly expensive and there's no way around that... but I think it's important to remember that you're not simply paying for a meal - you are paying for decades of passion, failure, creativity and learning. This is the best restaurant in England for a reason, and you have to accept that a 3rd Michelin Star is a licence for a restaurant to name their price. It's often the reward for a lifetime of sacrifice. Yes it stung, but my lord what an experience. Favourite part? A tiny baked loaf that came with a beef dish - glazed with beef fat, it transported me to a childhood moment sharing Bread & Dripping with my grandmother and genuinely moved me to tears. Money can't buy that... It's art. When we've sold a couple of kidneys we'll be back! <3

Just a fantastic experience from start to finish. The wine pairing choices were amazing and the level of service top class. As for the food - we will definitely be back and it surpassed anything we've enjoyed previously in terms of presentation and flavours. As others have said believe the hype - this is a location not to miss!

#1 dining experience ever! Highly recommended. Fantastic table, dinner & wines (we had the signature wine pairing which was excellent). The young staff are doing an amazing job here … super well polished. We enjoyed chatting to Valentin (Head Sommelier), that said, all the staff were very friendly, happy and knew every ingredient of every dish. They did an excellent job of demonstrating their expertise with a nice approach. They deserve the 3*’s as not just amazingly creative & detailed in every aspect but most importantly it was delicious! Every course. Not a single thing we could fault … very very impressed! Thank You L’Enclume!

One word can explain the meal, the attention to detail, the team and the wine choices and that is WOW. Having booked a meal with a friend as a birthday treat L'Elclume was changed to a 3 star Michelin days before our dinner. From the moment we arrived to the time we left it was a truly amazing experience. We had the Taster menu accompanied with the select wine pairing. The most amazing flavours with the most amazing wines. Stunning tastes with stunning lingering flavours. The team of staff were refreshingly attentive, truly enjoying their roles in creating a super evening. We were so pleased we chose the specific wine option and the knowledge and explanations given before each course was superb. A truly wow night that will keep us shell shocked with awe for many months to come!

Amazing food of course but what makes L'Enclume so special is all the staff every one of them. The ambience is relaxed inviting and not what you would expect. It is the opposite of 'stuffy'. Special praise tonight goes to Dora the new sommelier. Three weeks into her new job and she knew every dish and wine pairing. Amazing. Well done.

Excellent tasting menu, flawless service. Whether you’re new to tasting menus, or working your way through the many Michelin started ones, L’enclume will blow you away. They consider it 17 courses, though do note 3 are snacks, and 1 is a side. Parking at the race course is easy, and a very short and pleasant walk through the village (even in December!) Particular highlights included a seaweed custard, and a frozen cheese. The food was novel and thought was always given to where they were sourcing their ingredients from. We even got a recommendation for a local butcher, which was very welcome! The staff were knowledgeable and happy to answer any and every question we had. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the place setting was fantastic. The hand forged cutlery was both fitting and sensitive to the history of the building. The only flaw was that the lamb was a bit disappointing. It’s presented to guests as the star of the show, so we were expecting something incredible. In reality, it was actually slightly lacking in flavour and the cuts both me and my husband received were mostly fat. Unfortunately, this is where L’enclume become a victim of their own success. Expectations were high (as is the price tag) so you do expect every dish to be perfect. For us, this didn’t quite hit the mark. Overall though, a brilliant restaurant that I would highly recommend to anyone. The staff take perfect care of you, and nothing is too much trouble.

I don’t know how anyone could give L’Enclume less than 5 stars. I had high expectations of course however, every single part of this experience was above and beyond. The food is outstanding, but the staff were even better. The service is the best I’ve ever experienced. Every single staff member I interacted with was exceptional. Most of all we had fun! Congratulations! L’Enclume deserve their number one spot amongst UK restaurants.

Wow wow wow What an experience! Totally blew me away with their visual and flavorful food, which just kept coming. The addition of a wine flight to match the courses added that little extra. This all topped off with an excellent team. Their service was attentive and everyone showed so much knowledge of what was being served. This place is a must!

The 14 course tasting menu was a joy from start to finish. The staff could not have been more welcoming or knowledgeable, and treated us exceptionally well. Every detail had been thought of and the food was uniformly delicious, surprising, and delightful, presented on gorgeous stoneware. We'll be back for the next big family birthday, I hope!

A spectacular experience with food that is truly remarkable. The team at L'Enclume is clearly driven by excellence, and the inventiveness, precision and flavour of each dish makes this a really unique experience. It's all delivered by a very warm and friendly team in a beautiful setting. Unfortunately the sommelier didn't listen to what I was asking for but that was the only downside of the experience. A very high end restaurant that exceeds expectations.

Incredible, excellent service and wonderful food; super impressed to be offered a non-alcoholic drink pairing with the meal - made a massive difference to a non-drinker who might otherwise miss out.

Best restaurant I've ever eaten at. The 16 course tasting menu with paired drinks was divine! Exceptional service, beautiful, locally sourced and grown food. Looking forward to coming back soon. Thanks guys

Incredible experience going for the 15 course tasting menu and fortunate enough to be able to experience the Chefs table. Really special, packed full of flavour and some outstanding dishes with really relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere for a fine dining experience led by Head Chef Joris. Really memorable experience to celebrate special occasion, would recommend!

When I mentioned that I wanted to try the other, a buddy who lives in Liverpool took me here, and I was not disappointed! Everything was so excellent! The oysters were a little small for my taste, but the onion dip, and spinach were delicious. The service is excellent, and the staff takes the appropriate COVID-19 safeguards. I'd like to return for more.

You probably know what you are getting into if you book here - but rest assured you will not be disappointed. In my opinion the food is the best you can get in the UK and the service cannot be faulted. It does come at a price, but again I think that is to be expected. Be warned - there is no parking in the village other than at the race course, which is a short walk to the village.

Simply amazing !!! The place is on another level, the attention to detail is perfect. I highly recommend going, and we stayed in one of the rooms which was beautiful. Words simply can't describe how good it is. The staff make you feel welcomed and at home, with amazing service

Stayed and dinned @ L'Enclume. 15 courses... Each one a taste sensation. Service outstanding. Room was clean and very nice. Beautiful village. Will return for the summer menu and a tour around the farm. Faultless!!! 5*

My husband and I spent the night in one of the rooms offered by L’Enclume and had dinner at the restaurant. The entire experience was outstanding. The room was comfortable and well appointed. The meal was out of this world and the staff at both the lodgings and the restaurant were amazing. A very special experience in a beautiful setting.

Went for my wife's 40th. The experience was excellent from the serving staff to the food and the overall ambiance, it was all pure theatre. There is nothing I could say that hasn't been said a thousand times before but needless to say I was not disappointed in any way. This is one of those things you should experience once in your life if you can afford to.

  • 5/5 Chris P. 1 year ago on Google
Absolutely brilliant food, in a bustling, efficient and comfortable setting. Staff showed us the kitchen, explained it's mechanics and professionally and capably delivered us wonderfully tasty and visual courses, with a delightful wine pairing. Pricey, but you get what you pay for.

  • 5/5 Martin B. 11 months ago on Google
The only 3 star Michelin restaurant in the UK outside London and the Thames Valley and possibly better than any of those others. The food is perfectly judged: modern using fresh local ingredients (most on their own farm) served as a multicourse tasting menu (they will tailor to your dietary needs if you give them the info ahead). An innovative wine list where you are probably best going with their sommelier chosen flights. All of this is served by a knowledgeable and friendly front of house team and the occasional chef. It is as much theatre as dining and none the worse for that. If you stay (and given the location you probably want to) the rooms are well designed and comfortable. If you can afford it, it is a must visit place.

It’s the wonderful experience in Cartmel, I booked the hotel and Dinner at L’Enclume . We stayed there for 3 days 2 nights. It’s amazing Fine dining dinner. Staffs so lovely. It’s the best place to relaxing.

Without doubt one of the best experiences of my life. I have never had and will never have so many beautifully crafted dishes, paired perfectly with the wine flight. The highs just kept coming. I've not had food like it, provoking both thought and emotion, unforgettable.

Very cleverly designed dishes with depth and complexity. Impeccable, amazing food and wine with service to match. Friendly, welcoming staff who were all knowledgeable, passionate and took pride in their work. Great atmosphere and location. Wouldn't want to change a single thing.

It was worthwhile to be in the middle of nowhere in England, so we could visit L’Enclume in Cartmel. I so strongly recommend this place to anyone who’s into quality food, it is divine. Some dishes made me want to cry in gratitude. A few of them weren’t for me but they were all an experience. The wine pairing elevates the dishes even further. The staff is fantastic, the atmosphere relaxed yet elegant. Truly a special place.

Stunning food. New levels of flavour I didn't even know were possible. Perfect service, both from the serving team and the somellier, who delivered a succession of perfect wine pairings (signature wine flight) and gave real insight into the wine itself and how it complimented the food. Faultless, from start to finish and a memorable and worthy celebration of my son's 21st birthday. 3 hours of gastronomic indulgence with such minute attention to detail. Thanks to the L'Enclume team for the perfect lunch.

I visited for Dinner and whilst I thought it was good, I honestly wasn’t blown away. The staff are wonderful and the premises beautiful. The duck was excellent but I felt a few courses just didn’t hit the spot and the Sake doesn’t belong in the wine flight either. It has three Michelin stars for a reason, so who am I to say otherwise? Just my personal thoughts.

  • 5/5 Neil W. 1 year ago on Google
Quite simply the best meal and one of the best experiences of my life. The staff are really welcoming and friendly, a particular shout out to our Sheffield wine guy who was ace, really knowledgeable, helpful with some wonderful recommendations. I love the fact that despite there being a famous food critic in the restaurant everyone was treated exactly the same. Whoever was responsible for the venison dish deserves a promotion, that was soooo good.

  • 5/5 John K. 1 year ago on Google
Very lucky to have been able to dine here for a 2nd time, now after their 3rd star awarded. It still impressed! The food is exceptional - genuinely every bite something to experience and savour. The wine flights seemed a little less generous than our previous visit but still a great pairing for the food. The service - for us - was good, professional yet relaxed. We booked a stay and dine package and while annoying they didn’t honour the originally booked price, hopefully this translates to the staff being paid a decent wage. They work some serious hours!

Probably the best experience we have had at any restaurant in the world. The service was impeccable, the knowledge and friendliness of the staff was of the highest level. The food was very good but wasn't quite the best we have ever eaten. Still a fantastic way to spend our anniversary. Thank you to all at L'Enculme

I don’t often leave Google reviews but have to make an exception for L’enclume. Expectations of course were sky high, but the meal and service we had here was outstanding in every aspect. Each course was beautifully presented, tasty and challenging. We both took a wine pairing each to compare and contrast, and the sommelier was so informative about each wine, really made the experience more enjoyable. To top off our experience, after the meal we were a bit stranded without a taxi, in miserable Cumbrian weather! Thankfully one of the staff offered to give us a lift back to our hotel. I’ve never ever received an experience like that from a restaurant. L’Enclume really is more than just a meal, it’s an experience you’ll never forget. An absolute must-visit.
