This important mosque below the Casbah and in a bustling market area, has had several incarnations, and was at one time a church. Visitors should be able to enter after morning prayers if modestly dressed, it is a Very old Ottoman Mosque, newly renovated by Turkish Government. It has Mediterranean view and good outside look.

(Translated by Google) The historical Pakchaoua Mosque The Ketchaoua Mosque, currently or the cathedral⛪ of Saint Philip during the French occupation of Algeria, was built by Hassan Pasha during the Ottoman era in 1612 AD and was expanded in 1794 AD, making it one of the largest mosques in Algeria, then the Duke de Rovigo transformed it into a church .. As for the original name "Ketchawa", it dates back to the days of the Ottoman presence in Algeria, and it was called "Ketchawa" in reference to the market that was held in the adjacent square, (Original)

This is magnificent, it is amazing architecture and had a feeling of peace to it as I watched the worshipers. The history was a palpable feeling about me. It was just a very nice experience, however the government of Algeria should maintain the area better.

The Ketchaoua Mosque (Arabic: جامع كتشاوة‎, Djamaa Ketchaoua) is a mosque in Algiers, the capital of Algeria. It was built during the Ottoman rule in the 17th century and is located at the foot of the Casbah, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mosque stands on the first of the Casbah’s many steep stairways and was logistically and symbolically the cynosure of the pre-colonial city of Algiers. The mosque is oted for its unique fusion of Moorish and Byzantine architecture. The mosque was originally built in 1612. Later, in 1845, it was converted during French rule, to the Cathedral of St Philippe, which remained so until 1962. The old mosque was demolished between 1845 and 1860 and a new church was built. It was converted into a mosque in 1962. In spite of these transitions over two different religious faiths in roughly the last four centuries, the mosque has retained its original grandeur and is one of the major attractions of Algiers.

(Translated by Google) Why did you call her by that name ??? Not for the martyrs of the liberation revolution (1954/1962), as most people think ... This is a mistake ... The Martyrs Square was named for the 4000 worshipers of Algerian citizens who were executed by the criminal France in 1832 in the Ketchaou mosque and in its adjacent square, only Because they staged a sit-in inside the mosque and refused to convert it to a church (and there are those who say that they refused to demolish the Tao Bah build a church on it except that there are no valid sources on this issue as a French attempt to eliminate Islam in Algeria slowly slowly ... but hehe hehe ... The Mosque of Ketchaou is one of the most famous historical mosques in the capital Algiers, where it was expanded and decorated by Hassan Pasha in 1794 AD during the time of the Ottoman Empire. The neighboring goats burned them, and it looked more like the sight of Hulagu's burning of books in Iraqi Baghdad in the past. And then General de Rovigo turned this mosque into a stable, after more than four thousand Muslims who had staged a sit-in protested against his decision to turn the mosque into a church, and an order was issued to straighten the weapons towards the doors of the mosque and shot The sit-ins inside without mercy or compassion who fell between a dead person and an unconscious ... De Rovieux used to say: “I need the most beautiful mosque in the city to make it the temple of the Christian god.” So he converted the mosque to a cathedral, bearing the name “Saint Philip”, and the Christians prayed in it the first Christian prayer on Christmas night, December 24, 1832 AD, and the Queen sent “Emily, wife Louis Philippe "her precious gifts to the new church, but the king sent luxurious curtains, and Pope Greg XVI sent statues of saints ... And Muslims waited 130 years to return to pray in this mosque again on the occasion of Friday prayers corresponding to the second of November 1962 AD, and her fiancé was then famous Algerian Sheikh Bashir Brahimi ... . . # Reminder: The name of Kathawa in the Turkish language is divided into two words "cat" means in Arabic the square and "shawa" means in the Arabic language goats سبة As for the goat market located in front of this mosque in the adjacent square has my name so ...

An Islamic architectural masterpiece, and a beautiful place to visit, it has a great indication of steadfastness and resistance to colonialism. The mosque was built in the year 1612 AD during the Ottoman rule of Algeria, then with the French colonialism it was converted into a church within the aggressive colonial policies, then it was demolished by the colonists, until it was rebuilt , Then pray in it with independence.

(Translated by Google) A mosque was built as a chasm by Hassan Pasha in 1792 during the period of Algeria’s subordination to the Ottoman Empire. The name goes back to the Turkish word, which means in Arabic "goat", and the name was given to the mosque in relation to the market in the square opposite the mosque, whose name later changed to Martyrs' Square. The Ketchaoua Mosque is distinguished by an Arab and Islamic architectural character, and the inscriptions that cover its outer walls facing the waterfront of the Martyrs Square have added an exceptional and distinctive aesthetic touch to it.
