Opened about 2005 to house the artifacts from the Los Millares Copper Age site this modern museum is well worth a visit. It does tend to concentrate on the Los Millares and the following Argar cultures. Romans, Moors and Christians barely get a mention in comparison.

An interesting museum that provides a good insight into the history of Almeria. It is small enough for a quick tour to gain historic knowledge. During the pandemic it is often empty, so you can enjoy the museum without large crowds. The displays are informative and you can view ancient artefacts. The museum is 3 floors high and can be viewed within 2 hours. The toilet facilities are in good order and you have lockers to store items. Not essential, but it does what it sets out to do simply.

A charming and extremely well curated and cared for museum with a fascinating collection which is small enough to take in over a couple of leisurely hours. As we started on the top floor and moved downwards, I felt like I was traveling back in time. Definitely recommend!

A really lovely and very interesting museum. Each floor takes you a different aspect of the region's ancient past. There are some incredible objects on display. Well worth a visit. I loved it. I wish there had been a few postcards for sale.

Wow! The most imaginatively presented archeological museum I've ever visited (and there're been many!) The archeological layers are represented like a core-sample up the central stair-well with chronological finds shown as you go up the flights. Very moving reconstruction of the interior of a burial dolmen. Signage in Spanish and English. Ask at the reception desk if you want to buy the excellent guide book (available in 3 languages) - they're not on display! Very helpful staff.

A fabulous museum 😎 Superb stratigraphy column running through the central atrium. Faithful reconstructions of the marvels at Los Millares

After visiting Los Millares archaeological site last week (also free), this was a good follow-up to see some of the artifacts found.

Excellent free archeology museum, worth visiting the actual los millares site first. Very enjoyable couple of hours. I would suggest some benches by the video screens would make the visit more comfortable.

Its a really interesting insight into the ancient history of Alemeria, & a really lovely building & layout. We thought we would have to pay as we are from the UK, but no the lady at information said we didn't!

Amazingly done and executed, really informative. The pillar in the centre with all the periods is innovative

A well designed and thoughtfully documented museum, ranging from prehistory up to and including the Moorish presence in Al Andalus. My personal interest lies in more recent times but I guess they had better resources for the earlier periods. Visit the Air Raid Shelters from the Civil War if you want a 20th Century hit.

I thought this was excellent. Had everything in English as well (which is a nice change) Some great analysis of pre-Roman civilizations here
