Took the opportunity to visit during the Museum Night weekend and was super impressed with the exhibits displayed. Overall a great exposure to the navy history with amazing range of ships and weapons from the olden days. Would definitely recommend families to visit as means of educational purposes!

Affordable at 3 euros for 2018. Anyone who knows their way around can understand the exhibits. Unfortunately only in Spanish. However, recommended. This also explains the reason why you are confronted with submarines everywhere in Cartagena.

(Translated by Google) Here you will find the famous UBoot of Teniente Isaac Peral from 1888 and the tragic story behind it. As so often in history, a major developer ahead of his time but mocked by contemporaries for his revolutionary technical visions. Very informative and impressive, which was already feasible at that time. No entrance fee required, tour takes 20 minutes. Kein Eintrittsgeld erforderlich, Rundgang dauert so 20 Minuten.

Very high praise - and even without admission - at least when we were there. Great exhibits, most of which are now explained in English. Excellent ship and harbor models with excellent cuts that reflect the time very well. Very nice and helpful staff. You have to find something like that somewhere else first. THANKS

Nice little museum about the Spanish and Cartagean naval history. Two separate buildings, the first is a bit more about the general naval history, the second mostly about the submarine that they have in the collection. Well worth an hour or two, payment is in the form of a donation and voluntary.

(Translated by Google) An invention of universal importance. Before Isaac Peral's Submarine there were submerged artifacts ... but they did not navigate and lacked autonomy. The Peral submarine had a depth, submergence or emergence apparatus and was powered by batteries. Isaac Peral was a genius and inventor of the first order. Cartagena is the world capital of submarines thanks to it (Original) Un invento de importancia universal. (Translated by Google) Beautiful, well endowed, very interesting and a review of the most interesting moments of our army. We start with incredibly well-made models of caravels and ships from the 16th century onwards, very well distributed. We found one of the models of a considerable size that were used, as is now done with the most modern cars, to apply precise construction methods and avoid design errors. We then went through the medicine room on board, some banners and flags of notable events, uniforms. Then comes a room with some examples of artillery and various weapons. Special mention for the part dedicated to anti ship mines and torpedoes. Later the story of our divers with diving suits, full suits and even a model of an underwater base made by the old Bazan shipyards in 1971. By the way, I do not understand why the name changed (now called Navantia). Finally it is accessed, going outside again to a room dedicated to Isaac Peral's submarine. It's free and the staff who serve you are exquisitely professional and friendly.

Really cool museum, the naval ships outside add to the atmosphere and if you are lucky you might be able to see a naval sub at the port getting serviced. It is also split into two parts, the normal part and the submarine part which contains a real decommissioned naval submarine

Entry to the Naval Museum in Cartagena, Spain, is free of charge, but a voluntary donation of 3 Euros is invited. The museum occupies the ground floor of the historic building which was once the Old Prisoners and Slaves Barracks as well as the adjacent Sala de Isaac Peral building which was previously a ship building workshop. It is close to the Cruise Ship Dock and the Terminal Juan Sebastián Elcano. The museum has a modern design, light and airy. It includes models of sailing ships, and actual uniforms, clothing, flags, weapons, armament, navigation instruments, torpedoes and mines. Information on the displays is in Spanish and English. You can also access a free audio commentary in your chosen language on your smartphone using the museums own WiFi. The other half of the museum, housed in the Isaac Peral building next door, concentrates on the Spanish submarine service, starting with Peral’s 1888 electric submarine which is on display. They also have a collection of around 40 model sailing ships collected by Julio Castelo Matran. Well worth a visit if you are in Cartagena.
