Medical clinic Family practice physician Urgent care center Pediatrician

😠 While on vacation on the Big Island I had a telemedicine call with my primary care physician on the mainland who then wanted me to see a Neurologist. I called to make an appointment here and was told I needed to have a referral. Fine - I have one, but then these clowns said it had to be from a Hawa... While on vacation on the Big Island I had a telemedicine call with my primary care physician on the mainland who then wanted me to see a Neurologist. I called to make an appointment here and was told I needed to have a referral. Fine - I have one, but then these clowns said it had to be from a Hawaiian doctor and they wouldn't accept a referral from an out of state doctor. Are you kidding me? Other than trying to drum up business for their other doctor buddies, what possible reason could there be for this policy?

All I wanted was a refill for my gout medication. This is a prescription that i have been on for years and one that they had already filled once! I was told I would have to come in during a covid explosion and see the doctor! No real reason was given to me for why this was necessary but my request was denied! Just another way to bilk my insurance and make money at the possible expense of my health. what a joke!

They put me in a wheelchair. Couldn't do anything right. CONSTANT failure, inexcusable arrogance, absolutely incompetent. Never wrote anything but their opinions in my record, never documented symptoms, trash for my NEXT doctor. Dangerous jokers, zero professional standards. Irresponsible, and happy to blame the patients. Ignorant, and happy to bet a patients LIFE on it. Arrogant, don't do basic testing. Innefective: can't get prescriptions correct, cant get referral booked. 35 yrs I have been watching friends and family die at HMC. They almost got me. Don't trust them to do anything right, except dodge responsibility for their mistakes.

I have an infection that I’ve been seen for twice already. I called today for the antibiotics I refused at last visit because it is still not getting better. They said that to prescribe the antibiotics (which they has already offered to prescribe at last visit) I would have to come into the office. I have Covid and cannot drive. I requested a telehealth visit. They said I must present in office if I want antibiotics (so they can bill for an office visit, because just prescribing an antibiotic does not make the corporation any money). They are asking me to spend $60 on an Uber and expose countless others to Covid to get the antibiotic they already said I needed, or to just languish at home untreated while my infection worsens. Do not expect patient-centered, compassionate care here- it is a cold corporate entity concerned only with their bottom line.

I go here because I receive excellent health care. Even though residents are "new" doctors, they have the most up to date information because they recently graduated from medical school. And, all of their work is checked by one of the MD faculty. So, you actually have two doctors working for you at every appointment. If you want the most solid, up to date and thorough health care on the island, then this is it.

I've been going to their Primary Care office at the Hilo Medical Center under various name changes for the past six years where I get both medical and psychiatric care for several chronic conditions. They're very friendly and r very proactive with getting me set up for my injections, mecications and appointments. Also with about 25 doctors on staff in the office plus doing rounds in the hospital I feel they've always got my back. Found they will provide call backs and even urgent appointments such as with my psychologist within a day or even hours if need be :)

Update: I am still dealing with my problem, went for yet another (my last) visit and was seen by a student doctor who awkwardly launched into a rambling, infantilizing lecture on eye hygiene and makeup application instead of treating my infection- then she brought in her attending who said “we’ll have an ophthalmologist call you”. So I went to the ER where they drained it immediately and prescribed antibiotics and said I could’ve lost my eye by waiting any longer. ( I still haven’t heard from that ophthalmologist lol) You’re better off just using the emergency room as your doctor- your waits will be shorter and you’ll get better care because it’s the same doctors for both Medicaid and self-pay, whereas at East Hawai’i health clinic if you have Medicaid you’re seen in a different building with different (subpar) doctors and you will never see the same doctor twice- it’s just always some new random student that you have to disclose all your personal information to all over again. You will be used as a live training specimen for students without your expressed consent. After waiting for over two hours to be seen you will then be rushed through your appointment as they try to increase turnover to maximize profits. Terrible.

This corporate “health center” is a amoral money grab- they do NOT give a f about patients- they want to maximize their profits while minimizing liability, which translates to “care” that is not in the best interest of patients. You’re herded like cattle and treated as nothing more than a revenue source. If your condition is not profitable you will not be treated. Absolutely abhorrent.

I have been very satisfied with the care I've received at the clinic. The doctors are conscientious and thorough. Occasionally, I've had a doctor other than my primary care, but this is better than waiting weeks to see my doctor. Also, they have all been good doctors. I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes to be seen by the doctor. They also keep track of when you're due for vaccines, etc. At my age I need reminders. The front office staff are always courteous and friendly. An added convenience is that all tests can be done at the hospital.

I am still waiting to get Rx for my diabetes. Joined the clinic in March and Kissed held up my medical records until the end of July, then I had to talk to a Lawyer to get them. I see a doctor in a few days, but as I'm told, I don't know who. It's a shame that the Medical profession has become a money driven business, instead of a caring one as it was when I was a kid. Back then it was to keep you from getting sicker, not waiting for you to get to the perdieing stage to make the big bucks. We'll see what happened, in the mean time, I'm dating a nurse practionioner, an almost doctor. Better care for free and at 83, she lifts my spirits too.😀

Don't bother coming here for your health needs, especially if you are "old". Doctors and staff simply do not care to do any follow-up or long-term care. Highly do not recommend this location. Look elsewhere.

The problem with this clinic is mostly its desperation to get student healthcare providers some training. This is not a patient oriented healthcare facility it is a student oriented healthcare facility. Obviously, it drastically needs renovation, but fixing the haggard buildings will not fix the integrity of the clinic toward their patients. I would only go here if I were without any other options (Bay clinic and unlicensed practices are NOT options). While the students will be kind, they have absolutely no idea what they are doing; and unfortunately, your health is what needs to matter when you visit a doctor, not his learning. This clinic preys on patient ignorance in order to accomplish its objective. Shame on the the leadership for its judgement and tact. You do not lie to people.

Extremely rude customer service over the phone. I was not only met with hostility, but I was hung up on.

Every time I've ever gone I have had always the best care. My doctor Christine Chan is wonderful. Very attentive to my needs. As well as the nurses they're awesome. And the receptionists are all nice to as well. Very helpful I recommend this place for everyone. I have been a patient for 5 years now.

I have received great care from the clinic. Every doctor there works hard to handle the needs of the population and they do so with care and compassion.

Slow and long waits. And then when I get to appointment, the main doctor isn't there. Don't recommend.

New call service to make appointments. The lady I got on the phone should absolutely not be working at a call center and maybe should think about a job where she has no human contact at all. I called a different number and got transferred around until I got someone at the actual office. It should not be this hard to contact your doctor. If you can find a different primary care I would recommend taking any other office (besides maybe bay clinic- Hawaii island community health, they’re just as bad).

It is impossible to reach them. They don't return phone calls they don't return website messages. I had to literally drive down to the office to get a response about my prescriptions.
