I stayed at this 8-week all-inclusive resort back in 2008. The beds were comfortable but, I would have preferred a private room. The staff don't seem to understand customer service very well. Lots of educational and fitness orientated activities are included in the package. They are also not optional. They do have a nice pool but the life guards rush you through your allocated swimming time. I heard there are swimming lessons available but they are super early in the morning. The food was really good but the staff rush you through and make you eat quickly. The stay finishes with BattleStations which I was told not to discuss in detail but you really feel like you accomplished something at the end and I even got a souvenir hat. 10/10 would go again.

Absolutely beautiful. I went to school there, later I was an instructor there, i got married at the Blue Jackets Chapel there, I was stationed on the amphibious assault craft and i retired from there. No finer base in the Navy. Sailors are born there; shipmates train there, memories are made there. Men were made for ships. Ships were made for sea. And, all land is merely a hazard to navigation; except for Great Lakes. It is a Sailor's homeport and destination.

Far too loud staff and their people skills are lacking. Too early wake up calls. You are your Uber with free marching around the base. The food is awful and the staff always tries to throw you out before your meal is done Plenty of cold weather and snow. Overall it is a Great Mistakes place.

Phenomenal experience during the 3rd Iteration of NSI in summer of 2021. Beautiful and spacious campus, vast green fields, and air conditioned living quarters. The food in the chow halls was some of the best I have ever ate - apple and peach oatmeal for breakfast, fish and potatoes or lobster bisque for lunch, and grilled chicken and vegetables for dinner, among many of the foods the kitchen staff provided. The best part? Hearing the various recruit divisions calling cadence while we marched or were PTing, and soon singing "Hey Sailor" and "Sailors at War" ourselves. Shoutout Chief Miles, GySgt Martinez, the A-01 MI's, and Bravo Co. who made this experience legendary!

I just gave 3 stars because I don't have an opinion yet. My grandson leaves out June the 8th 2023 for boot camp.

This is where boys become men and men then become Sailors. I'm unbelievably proud to have started my Navy career here.

Never ever go to any bar within a 30 minute drive, of Great Lakes Naval Station. So, dangerous! Remember your fallen Shipmate. Never visit any bar within 30 minutes. Your, wasting your time. These bars are garbage. Visit, Chicago bars, cook county bars, Kane county bars, and MCHENRY COUNTY BARS ARE THE BEST. ESPECIALLY, ROOKIES AND D.C . COBBS AND CHASERS

I remember this place. It was fun, but man was there a lot of yelling. I thought some of the RDC's were going to pop a blood vessel. The Base has changed since I was there in 1999. BATTLE STATIONS!!!

I didn't really mind the training at RTC Great Lakes. Got to 4-3. I'm proud of how far I got through the training. Beautiful area. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
