The wetlands is a free resources that all ages can enjoy. Bring a hat, water, juice, a stroller if you have kids. No bicycles allowed. There are some shaded areas but if it’s hot out prepare to get a lot of sun. Lots of birds, Lizards and alligators. There are educational writings about each bird that is in the wetlands. It’s beautiful nature with a lot of sounds of birds and visuals for kids If you or a consumer or the owner and like this review you could say thank by following me on Google reviews and liking this post…. ……. There are two similar wetlands areas to see in the Delray/Boynton area. Both are excellent, full of natural beauty of a Florida wetland, and absolutely free to visit. We like this one better, when we are fortunate enough to find parking. When we don't, we just drive 2 miles to the other one, where parking is plentiful. The reason we like Wakodahatchee is the abundance of wildlife. On this visit, we saw alligators, snakes, iguanas, ducks, turtles, and an assortment of birds. One gator we saw was hhhhuge! ...and it was active. It would have been scary if there wasn't the railing of the boardwalk between us and it. But that's what we came to see, so we enjoyed the experience. Because of the limited parking, my tip is to visit through the week when school is in session.

The Wakodahatchee Wetlands natural preserve deserves the highest rating, not just because foresighted conservationists reclaimed the land for a wildlife sanctuary in the middle of south Florida urban sprawl, but because of the beautiful experience. Raised boardwalks route the visitor through lake and swamp in an aesthetically pleasing layout. One can see a thriving assortment of large exotic birds nesting in the tree branches and turtles carefully plying shallow water with lurking alligators. Lizards scamper about amusing sightseers. Dragonflies buzz by indifferent to the spectators as do herons and egrets very low overhead.

Amazing place to view wildlife. There were a lot of alligators there and many birds. It was very busy on a Sunday during the season, but all of the people were polite. Parking is super simple, with a large lot available. Kids and adults seemed to really be enjoying it.

I was so pleased to be at this area to see the birds, their babies and being able to enjoy nature. The boardwalk with benches and the pavilions allow a resting spot for those that need it. I loved being able to just walk and absorb the view. The chatter of the birds was hypnotic. Great idea for the area.

A great place to go and walk. The trees in the front attract a lot of birds to nest so it’s very cool, if not a bit smelly. We also saw a large Alligator by the front as well.

These wetlands make you feel like you’re transported far from the hustle and bustle. They’re a quick walk with the easy to maneuver boardwalk. There are also small shaded areas throughout but overall you’re out in the sun here so bring sunscreen. There are tons of birds to see in the trees, flying overhead, wading, and even swimming underwater. Keep your eyes peeled for different animals such as fish and turtles all around too. You’ll see plenty of people with binoculars and professional cameras capturing close ups of the birds, but there are plenty that can be seen without any special equipment. It’s seriously impressive how many birds are here to be seen! Parking can be tough on the weekends but they had attendants ensuring spots got filled as they opened up. There’s free parking and some minimally maintained bathrooms.

Stopped by here en route North after leaving the Everlglades cruise Port. I was so thankful to be immersed in and observe the local floral and fauna and share it with our 5 year old. The space is clean and contains of long boardwalk style raised paths above the wetlands. Iguanas, herons, birds, fish, turtles, frogs..... alligator 😉

Beautiful location for a quick walk among nature and enjoy natural sounds. It can be as long as you make it, different spots to stop and look around, take pictures, and feel like you are far from an urban space. I felt safe walking about although some might think otherwise because of the alligators. You are walking on raised bridge most of the route, above the waters, except for a couple of spots. Free to park, free to enter. Thank you to all who involved in keeping this place beautiful and clean as it is.

This was such a fun little walk! The boardwalk is in good condition. We saw many different birds and an iguana. Unfortunately no alligators or turtles this time. It was so peaceful and lovely outside.

I've visited here twice and both times I saw so much wildlife! I went in June and saw birds, turtles, and even an alligator. When I was here in April I saw the baby birds in nests, a marsh rabbit, and a tortoise. This is a super accessible walkway, with people of all ages and abilities walking around. There are many benches and shaded areas, and even when it is very hot it isn't a very long trail. I would highly recommend for all ages.

You could walk here every hour of the day and still find some new creature/plant. Incredibly peaceful place to stroll. Good for photographers or families. Not alot of shade so keep that in mind while planning a trip here. Highly recommend walking this area more than once!

A natural reserve with many different species birds, reptiles and fish. A boardwalk takes you all the way around for a nice view of the wildlife. This is a birdwatchers paradise. Kids had tons of fun waking around and looking out for alligators and interesting birds. A great place to go to relax and take in some nature.

I loved this. Man they have an alligator that is massive. I don't know what he's eating but this thing is eating real good. It's a nice walk and pretty scenery. We got to see a hawk caught a large lizard and ate it.

Thoroughly enjoyed our walk along the boardwalk. It was an oasis of calm on a sunny day. We spotted iguanas, alligators and various species of birds along our walk. Entry to the wetlands is free and would appeal to nature and bird lovers. A great afternoon out for both the young and old with accessible access for those in wheelchairs.

Great place for a walk and to check out wildlife. They have parking, but get there early to make sure you get a spot. Well maintained and a great conservation effort.

Wow! What an exceptional preserve. We felt like we were in a National Geographic special as we watched herons eat fish, turtles swim, iguanas sun themselves, and ibises nest by the score. Try to get there as the sun is setting since that's when all the birds fly in to nest for the evening. Accessible to everyone, you simply walk in well maintained boardwalks that span the water.

Wakodahatchee Wetlands is a beautiful area with a nice boardwalk and great for a short nature walk. There are a few areas that can provide you with shade including 3 gazebos/ pavilions and some areas covered with trees. You can find a nice array of wildlife such as an Alligator, turtles, rabbits, fish and birds. Bring your cameras with a great zoom lens or just a nice pair of binoculars.

Very nice park. At first it seems like it would be small and not really in the middle of nowhere but after making it past the first portion of the boardwalk I was amazed. The whole walk is very nice and you will see tons of wildlife. It was a bit crowded but we still everything clearly even a gator. Very nice little hike, strongly recommend

We came across this on AllTrails. Short but lovely boardwalk path with lots of birds. We spotted rabbits, turtles, and lots of iguana. There’s even a water bottle filling station and bathroom! Many shaded areas to stop and just listen to all of the birds

We spent a couple hours at this feast of a nature park. You will not be disappointed! Iguanas, alligators, snakes, turtles, lots of different birds and fish. It’s free and a great way to spend a couple hours with friends and family. There is lots of parking and a short walk before you’ll stop for your first glance of wildlife. Enjoy!

The area was beautiful. Locals stated that the water had never been as low as it was then. Would definitely like to see it higher and in the Spring when birds are roosting.

Didn’t know this place existed right next to the substation! Even though it’s human made, these wetlands have all the natural features you could expect! Birds, gators, iguanas, ducks, turtles…the wildlife is here! Very lucky to see a gator swimming up close, just wonderful! Boardwalk totally makes it safe, not even a worry, it’s so far out in the open, you can see anything and everything! And you don’t have to worry about spiders or anything like that because the trees and plants are far enough away from the boardwalk for the most part. Really a great walk in the park! Even around 1pm, the wildlife was out there doing what they do! Definitely have a new respect for wetlands and why they are protected as much as possible.

Never a disappointment! Always a lot of cool wildlife to see. It does get pretty hot during the summer, so make sure you have a hat and a bottle of water.

I absolutely adore this park! The elevated boardwalk is well-maintained and wheelchair accessible, there are many benches/shaded gazebos along the path to rest if you need, and there is wildlife everywhere! I can guarantee you'll find some great wildlife here as well. One of my favorites in the area!
