I am a huge fan of breakfast food and this place is near the top of my list in the area. Thankfully the name is not indicative of the delicious food that is served here. This place always has a lively atmosphere and the tables are always full and turning.

Wow we had a party of 10 and they were crowded. Still, we were seated quickly and had great service. The food tastes as good as it looks. You probably already know if you'd like this kind of place or not. The food lives up to the hype. Special about out to the Grand Marnier french toast. My stomach still hurts from how much food I ate, but my mouth still longs for more of that sauce.

Pancakes, waffles and a long list of other dishes. It was a good early stop on the way out of Chicago heading west. Very good service, prices and food.

Alison rocks and coffee is great! Banana Bread nut French toast rocks! We got it as replacement for toast with breakfast. Omgosh! Country fried steak! Delcious gravey didn't taste like flour, well seasoned and a bit of lemon for the acid, a perfect balence! Chicken salad sandwich is chunky and crunchy and has apple chunks and cranberries. This place is a superior breakfast place in a few visits we have not had any thing we do not emphatically enjoy so congrats to them for being complete rock stars! Coffee is really really tasty! Thanks burnt toast and Alison our server rocks for the French toast hack on an entre! We did it again, Chicken Salad Sandwihich and corn beef hash and eggs with a side of butternut bread French toast substitute for bread. Thank you Burnt Toast! You are anything but burnt toast.

I have tried almost all breakfast restaurants in the area. So far this one was the worst. Great servers and atmosphere but the food is bad. I ordered 4 different dishes and the crepes definitely the worst I ever had. I just couldn’t believe how bad they were. And the rest is with no salt, paper or sugar. The food is simple with no taste. Very disappointed in this place. I was expecting everything to be delicious but I left disappointed and upset.

I got the special pancakes which I believe were pumpkin and they were very good and it was huge. I did get a side of hash browns and ended up only being able to eat half the pancake. I also had a pumpkin latte coffee and it was very good as well. This place has fancy coffees which some places do not.

Great food, great service, great environment. All our entrees were delicious.  We had the aged steak skillet with cheese, tomatoes, onions & green peppers; Florentine Benedict & lots of pancakes.

This place has been around for a long while as a local favorite and there's a good reason for it! Quality brunch food and friendly staff. What more could you want? I highly recommend trying the chicken bacon and waffles 😋

Burnt Toast Restaurant stands as a culinary gem in the heart of Illinois, and I am delighted to share my enthusiastic review of this establishment. Over the course of numerous years, I have had the pleasure of indulging in the diverse offerings of this establishment, and without a doubt, it has earned its reputation as the premier breakfast destination in the state. What truly sets Burnt Toast apart is its consistent excellence. From the crack of dawn to the lunchtime rush, I have never encountered a subpar dish. The attention to detail and commitment to quality are evident in every bite, making each visit a gastronomic delight. The breakfast menu, a veritable symphony of flavors, caters to all palates. Whether you prefer the classic allure of perfectly cooked eggs and crispy bacon or crave a more adventurous start to your day with specialty omelets and unique twists on traditional favorites, Burnt Toast has you covered. The diversity of options, coupled with an unwavering commitment to using the finest ingredients, ensures that every dish is a masterpiece. It's not just the locals who sing the praises of Burnt Toast; this establishment has left an indelible mark on my culinary memories as I've traveled across the country. The restaurant's commitment to excellence extends beyond the plate. The staff, consistently friendly and attentive, contribute to the warm and inviting atmosphere. The attention to cleanliness and a welcoming ambiance make each visit a memorable experience. In conclusion, Burnt Toast Restaurant is not merely a place to satisfy your breakfast cravings; it's an institution that sets the standard for culinary excellence. Not a better/high class breakfast option! Higher prices, Standard service, Poor food preparation; Ordered Ham & Cheese omelet, hash browns and pancakes. Hash browns were BURNT on the outside and RAW on the inside! Disgusting! Not how I ordered them. The omelet was dry? Possibly slightly over cooked, but edible. Pancakes were good. Hopefully this is not their norm. I've been to many "hole in the wall" low end diners where the omelets were great!! They also put us next to a server station where the bus boys would put a rubber bin on a chair to collect dishes, so every time we would heard clanging dishes we'd be drawn to look over at them as they would fill it up and/or replace it with another empty one. This should have been out of sight of the customers!

Spent some time here with some good friends that we were visiting. Actually came here twice in the week or so we were in the Lake I the Hills area. First I had an omelette with home fries and the second time I had eggs Benedict. Both tasted amazing! I will definitely be back here. Our server was friendly, fast, observant, and attentive. The prices were fair and the portions large. So expect lots of food. I also tasted some of my wife's plate. She had banana crepes. They were delicious!

It's probably by far the best breakfast place in all of Illinois. The services are phenomenal, and the food is delicious. I would highly recommend the Ghirardelli Chocolate Frappe or Carmel Latte. Try the country-fried steak, you won’t regret it.

Great food! Fast service! If you go away hungry it's your own fault! Had full plate's and full tummies for the same price as a Dennys. Menu is huge with something for everyone!

Huge portions. 3$ bananas. Portion size is HUGE. One skillet feeds 3 people. Order accordingly. See picture for how much I could/couldn't eat. Food quality was good. 3$ upcharge for less than one banana, sliced, added to pancakes.

We booked the private room for my Mom’s 82nd birthday. She had a year of health issues and has recovered. This was a very big reason to celebrate. The day before the event Burnt Toast called in the mid afternoon and told us that we were not going to have the private room. The room was double booked. Someone on staff was having their baby shower in the room. We were told if we moved our party to 8:30 or 9 am we could have the private room. This was not possible to change plus it was too late in the day to call around to different breakfast places because they were closed for the day so moving our group of 25 to a different venue was not possible. We were also told we didn’t leave a deposit for the private room. We were NEVER asked for a deposit. We were also asked if we were the group with a person named Anna. No one in our group was named Anna. We arrived today and there was a large table for us. But wasn’t enough room. 4 people had to sit at a booth close by. The entire 2 hours we were there, THE PRIVATE ROOM WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. I receive emails from Burnt Toast advertising their private room. I guess it’s so private no one is allowed to use it. We found this experience disappointing and confusing. The food and server was good. Can’t fault the kitchen. But the management seems questionable.

Their parking lot was great for me to park my overheated car (in single digit temps... brrr) while I waited for a tow truck to take my car to my car repair shop... having eaten here when they were open, the food was great & plentiful...

I enjoyed a great breakfast today. This place is always consistent. I've never had a bad meal here and the wait staff is good. Not amazing but they get the job done. It's a diner so not much to expect when it come to atmosphere but it is clean and well run. A good place for a quick breakfast or a Sammy! great

Great location, easy in and out, and all in all a good spot for breakfast. Food was prepared perfectly, staff was pleasant enough, and prices are reasonable. Cant wait. We visit burnt toast whenever we are in the Elgin area. ...always great food, great atmosphere, happy kids. They love the Lincoln logs.

  • 3/5 Ramnu 3 years ago on Google
Requested hash browns well done, they were not plus I would think that the "garbage hashbrowns" would be cooked all together not just cooked hashbrowns then throwing green peppers n onions n ham on top, I believe the flavors would of excelled when cooked together my opinion, my toast well let's say it was " burnt toast" so I'm assuming that's part of the deal of eating at "burnt toast" Still good food but could use some better attention to details..thank you

This is an extremely unprofessional and sketchy business. They underpay their staff by taking out .50 cents per hour they are working out of each paycheck, claiming that it goes toward their allowance to have soup (with no option to opt out, p.s. not everyone wants the soup nor is that worth the value of it) - this is actually illegal business practice. Please dine elsewhere, where managers treat their staff respectfully (and conduct business LEGALLY).

Bad customer service and ordering system. Pickup orders are missing items and clearly not double-checked for accuracy. Web ordering system is flawed and orders do not go through. Received an e-mail that my order was submitted but restaurant has no record of it. I’m done with On the Border. I like their food, but I’m tired of being frustrated all the time by them. I’ll go elsewhere for Mexican food now.

Poor experience, we were told that there wasn't a table outside available. Then another hostess stated that there was, but it needed to be cleaned. They asked to take our number while they cleaned the table, so they could call us back when it was done. I stated that I would wait and sent the rest of the family outside. Another family of 6 came in immediately after. They were told there was a wait for an outside table as well, but they would be first, they proceeded outside to wait. As I was waiting, the same family if 6 came back inside as they were called to take the outside table. When I approached the hostess station, to ask what ahppened, I was told that a new hostess just came on and she didn't know what was going on. I told her that was bullsh*t, I was standing there the whole time and the two hostesses were the same. This did not happen at a busy time either, we were the only two families waiting. Poor, poor communication and the hostesses lying to cover up their mistakes. Very poor training and supervision of young staff. We had a similar instance here over a year ago and figured we would try again. It wasn't a fluke, this is a restaurant with poorly trained staff. Chili's, thank On the Border for our business, because apparently we weren't wanted there. Never will attempt to eat here again.

Really.... OK... it’s Cinco De Mayo.. so let’s place an order with Door Dash at 11am for the evening dinner..... requested time is 5:30Pm.... DoorDash guy has been great with updates...but if you try to call this location 2 hours after your requested delivery.... no one answers.... poor form.... you won’t even pick up the phone to explain that you might be a little busy....

  • 1/5 Rhonda F. 4 years ago on Google
Went online a couple of days ago to order a meal to go for cinco de Mayo. Arrived a few minutes before selected time to find a parking lot full of people social distancing. After waiting about 15 minutes I found out they were an hour and a half behind. Canceled my order and left. Totally unprepared and unorganized. Couldn’t get tacos anywhere by then. Not even Taco Bell.

We placed an online order on Sunday 5-2-2020 for Cinco de Mayo. My wife went to go pick up the order we chose a pick up time of 5 pm. It is now 6 pm I had to call 29 times 29! And I get a snobby girl who tells me they have no system to get orders out. I ask to speak to a manager and she scoffs and says well you will have to wait on hold. At this point I just cancelled our order and hung up. This is hands down the biggest gaggle f@&k I have ever seen.

Haven't been here in ages but happened to be on Randall Rd and needed breakfast. My Very Berry Baked French Toast was a lot like bread pudding. It came with plenty of fresh fruit and whipped cream. Only took a couple bites of the cream but I totally finished the order despite it being huge... So good I didn't want to leave it behind. The corned beef eggs Benedict was good but not great. Coffee is delicious and they sell bags of it at the front. Server was a fun guy who provided great service and we enjoyed talking with him. Wish we got near here more often.

I've been coming here for years and the food is always good. On this trip I tried something different, the lemon crepes. The were sweet with just the right amount of lemon, I'll be getting them again for sure and also trying their other crepe choices. The servers are always friendly despite usually being very busy. The only thing that bothers me about this place is the overwhelming smell of the bathroom deodorizer that you can smell as soon as you walk in to the lobby. I won't take a booth in the first section because of this, it's just very unappetizing when you know what it is.

I had what amounted to breakfast nachos. It would have been great, except it was too salty to eat. My husband and I traded plates, but he couldn't eat it either. We should have made a fuss and insisted the waitress take it back to the kitchen. Instead, we told the waitress it was too salty to eat. She said she would inform the kitchen, then brought us a bill for the entire meal we paid and left. Lesson learned. Next time, that dish might be great, but I'm not sure there will be a next time for us. If it isn't to your liking, don't rely on the waitress to ask you if you want something else. Send it back and demand a refund.

Me and my girlfriend went for breakfast at 8am. The waitress was pleasant. She took our order and we both ordered vegetarian omelettes with grits and pancakes! When the omelettes came out my girlfriend realized there were onions inside. She is allergic to onions. So she asked the waitress if she can remake the omelette. She said no ! So we asked to talk to the manager who was a woman We explained the situation to her. She said very rudely that she would not make another omelette. Because it says it on the menu that it comes that way. She said if she wanted another omelette without onions she would have to pay for another one So when the billed came we end up paying for an extra omelette. Whatever happened to making your customers happy so they would want to come back. Since the manager was no help at all.I am hoping the owner of burnt toast makes this situation right by offering a refund back to her credit card. Because we have been a regular customer at your restaurant and would like to continue to come there.

The asparagus Cobb salad is super great. Fresh ingredients. Cream of mushroom bowl portion was excellent and served with a big wedge of bread. My friend had eggs Benedict because their sauce is his favorite. Nice friendly staff. The owner was present and very hands on.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. This was the worst experience I have ever had. I got the lemon crepes on valentines day and they were undercooked and smelled horrible. The wipped cream tasted like it had gone bad and had started to curdle. When I mentioned this to staff they doubled down on how amazing their food was and refused to listen to my concerns. When I asked to take it off the bill the manager raised her voice, started arguing with me, and was very rude. At this point I was in tears and just wanted to leave. I mentioned that i shouldnt have to still pay for the food, and the owner threatened to call the cops. I have never sent back food but this was inedible. The whole experience was traumatizing and so bizarre. I dont recommend this place to anyone, I dont understand how they are still in business if this is how they treat guests.
