Amazing walk I would recommend bringing shoes and water if you are hiking the entire way because the sand can get very hot and I only hiked half way there because my brother, cousin and my mom were getting burn blisters because the sand was so hot. My sister needed water 30 minutes in so would recommend bringing it. Amazing views the trail to the lake is 3 miles of going up and down sand dunes.

Amazing walking and views along the big dunes. Did a 7 mile walk going out on the dune climb, along the lakeshore for a few miles, and back on the bike path. Dune climb was a bit overrated but the lake Michigan shoreline was very nice, like a calm sandy ocean beach. Lake temperature in July was perfect for swimming. Views from the dunes north of that were incredible.

While it definitely is not my favorite National Lakeshore in the state of Michigan it still has all kinds of natural beauty to behold. And am sure to come back as the only evening my family was there it was cloudy and would love to see the dunes with a Lake Michigan sunset as the backdrop.

Insanely gorgeous views and plenty of trails and sights to see. Getting to the lake from the main dune climb is not an easy ordeal I highly suggest bringing water and planning to take breaks. Some of the hills and valleys on the trail feel steeper then the main climb. Once you get to the shore though you have an amazing view of the lake and the islands to the north. You might even see a Freighter off in the distance.

This park is awesome. Fun for everyone! Who doesn't like running down sand dunes? And if you don't, you can bbq and watch everyone else! The beaches are some of the best in the great lakes with clear water, no crowds, and plenty of sand. There are so many hiking and biking trails of different lengths for whatever you want to do.

One of Michigan’s gems. On this visit we just sampled like 1% of what’s on offer by staying down in the Platte River area. On other trips we’ve done it all, though, and it’s spectacular. First-timers should be sure to review their viewing plans with the kind and knowledgeable folks at a visitor center to get all the nuances and hidden glories revealed.

Wear comfortable shoes because it can be a lot of walking and climbing. I got some great pictures but yeah it can be your workout for the day. I love the scenic drive. If you go during the fall you can see the leaves changing colors.

Beautiful dunes. 1.6 mile hike to lake Michigan. If you hike it you will be going up and down some steep and very high dunes that are of course soft sand. It does sap your energy going up. The view as you get close to the beach is worth the effort. Go barefoot or bring a change of shoes and socks lol.
