A superb place to visit for both Swedes & others alike! I'm only 8% Swedish, but was eager to look through all the artifacts. The mansion was decorated for Christmas 🎄 It was magical! The best piece of art, for me, was the stained glass knights. There was an incredible display of Scandinavian holiday table decorations for Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Sami and Hmong. Great gift shop, too!

Went for the disinformation cocktail tour and it was quite fun. The beverages and small plates were very classy and tasty. A good number of people made it despite the blizzard the previous night and maintenance was doing their best to get things cleared in time. the front path was heated cement, so it was nice and clear. The turnblad mansion was beautiful and accessible. Found their list of other craft classes and cooking classes to do and it seems like a fun selection. We will be back for those and a guided tour.

ASI is a place that brings out the Swedish in everyone! Classic and modern, historic and contemporary, this place tells wonderful stories with space for our own engagement.

An unexpected and pleasant gem in Minneapolis! I don’t know how the mansion is decorated the rest of the year, but they did a great job for the holidays. There are quite a few rooms to explore, so give it a fair amount of time! We also stopped by the gift shop - which is a bit overpriced- and the café, which was good! The menu is small and simple, but the food is delicious! The service was a bit slow, and the servers seemed confused which table was which, but we all enjoyed the lunch we had and would recommend it to others.

Great museum that takes one hour or less to go through. Very well curated and lots of great things to see. The story of how it had to be moved after the flooding is fascinating. Make sure you don’t miss the Mini exhibit on that in the parking garage. We did not park in the garage, so we almost missed it but got lost on the elevator and we’re lucky enough to see it.

Really cool museum! The Turnblad Mansion is incredibly beautiful. Fun to visit during the holidays -- they have some very neat themed exhibits. The tile stoves in the mansion are especially cool. There are a number of areas that would be nice to just sit and chat. I hope to come back to the museum and check out some of their classes or other events!

Worth seeing just for the architecture. The contrast of historical and contemporary space is unique for the area.

Such a great place to visit. The mansion is amazing to walk through. There is a cafe that you can grab a bite or drink at. There is also a gift shop. The staff are friendly and the workers in the museum are knowledgeable of the house. There is a parking lot that is free to park at when you are visiting the museum.

Went there on vacation with my bestie to experience some Swedish culture. This place knocked my socks off!!! From the coffee, lunch and tour to the gift shop and knowledgeable staff. We spoke to several volunteers who had so much info to share. We spent several hours there and finished the day with some amazing coffee. This is a must see. Absolutely beautiful!

First time visitors. We came specifically for the Kindertransport exhibit and were impressed by it and the museum as a whole. It’s a beautiful facility, both the mansion and the beer part. The cafe food looked amazing. Loved the courtyard and kids activities. Nice local gift shop too. Overall well worth a visit.

The exhibition space is ok, but the dwelling is the star of the show. If admire architecture and fine woodworking this must see.

What a fun place to visit! They have classes, a museum, and special exhibits. Their events are fun and shop is adorable. My favorite time to visit is during the winter when I'm holiday shopping or looking to get out of the house. But anytime is a good time to go to the ASI.

Quiet and peaceful museum not too far away from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. The mansion is kept beautifully and would make a great place for events or casual photo shoots/selfies. There are rotating exhibits spotlighting Swedish artists as well. Good way to spend a few hours in a cool and airy space. FIKA Cafe has Swedish foods, including new specials, and you can buy Swedish dry goods and art at the gift shop. Fun to check out if you are in Minneapolis!

We did the tour of the mansion. It is really cool to see all the history and culture. They could definitely use more plaques though. I kept wondering "what was this room originally ". It would have been cool to understand the original purpose and use for the space.

Fun and enriching place to visit. A lot of history and stories of the Turnblad family who once called this their home. Beautiful and well thought out hand carved wood throughout the entire house and imported porcelain fireplaces! There are 3 floors and a lot to explore. They have very knowledgeable guides and a really nice gift shop as well. Varied special Swedish heritage exhibits are featured year round. Ample parking available and easy to get to.

Had a great time here! The mansion is beautiful and was worth the visit alone. Lots of areas to walk - went on Sunday at 4pm, pretty much had the place to ourselves to roam around. Friendly staff, especially the nice man who showed us around and told us a bit about the history of the place. Had a great time!

The museum is beautiful. Amazing tile and carved woodwork. The Christmas theme with the different ways of story telling were very interesting. I do wish there was more information about the family that lived there. I also wish there was a written explanation about how each room had been used. Some, such as the library and kitchen, are obvious, but others are not. Fika has amazing food, but it's a little pricy. Our 25-minute wait turned into 50 minutes, and the $55 ( before tip) we paid for a light lunch was a little much. I would return to see the Mansion again. #dimedaytrippin @dimedaytrippin

The museum/Mansion doesn't have much to do with Sweden besides having been built by American Swedish people and having some American/Swedish art, but still worth checking out! Also has full restaurant and nice gift shop.

One of my favorite places to visit in Minneapolis. The historic Turnbull building is absolutely gorgeous, but the exhibits are what really make the Institute. Lots of activities, classes, and and one of the best gift shops in the city. Don’t forget to have a bite at the FIka café! If you are into Scandinavian, visit here!

  • 5/5 Luisa A. 4 years ago on Google
We enjoyed everything. Best were the demonstrations of weaving, carding, knitting, etc. Oh, and EVERYTHING was wonderful. Lots of room for lots of people. Mansion was amazing!!! Great staff, full of info. and friendly. Beautifully presented. Loved the cafe. My salmon was to die for. Bought fun and historical cultural things in gift store. Thanks!♡♡♡

The event space is modern and open. The aesthetic doesn’t really match the original space (the mansion). The mansion is spectacular with ornate fireplaces, woodwork, ceilings, stained glass, etc. Really beautiful, if you visit take the time to check it out!

I have been a multi year, repeat visitor to the American Swedish Institute. It's stunning and even more so during December when it is decorated for Christmas. This year, I decided to eat at their restaurant. Excellent food. Horrible service. They clear your food containers while you are still eating. They don't even bother to ask, "may I take this" or "are you finished". I am giving a 3 Star rating because of all the other positives. For restaurant service alone, it's a definite 1 Star.

Beautiful museum featuring art, historical features and kids' areas. Cute gift shop and a nice cafe. Ample free parking. Very thoughtfully designed. They have both temporary and permanent exhibits so it's a place you could return to every so often. My kids (10 and 1.5) and I spent over two hours there and all had a blast.

As Minneapolis visitors, we’ve been driving past this gorgeous building a few times and decided to finally give it a shot. It goes without saying we weren’t disappointed. As being born 100 miles away from Finland and studying there for a while, I appreciate all the Scandinavian things and its culture. It was nice to see familiar things at the American-Swedish Institute’s Store, but more importantly - touring the mansion was a great experience. Every room had beautiful decorations. Some of them, not all of them, were original. However, a lot of items were created by modern artists and a few rooms looked a little empty. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our time exploring the mansion and took some nice pictures. It also has a cafeteria and a museum store that contains items from Norway, Sweden, Finland, and even Iceland. The institute is a great place to visit for families, couples, or singles and I’d say it will take around 2 hours to check out all the floors and the store. A huge parking lot is onsite and free!

  • 5/5 Roxanne M. 5 years ago on Google
Great place to visit during the holidays whether you are Scandinavian or not. Come early to get a parking place as it’s crowded and the lot is small. We visited on the 1st Sunday in December. Wonderful craftsmanship throughout the mansion. Live music upstairs in the ballroom. Treats for purchase on the lower level. Quality handcrafted and traditional gift items for sale in the craft area upstairs as well as the gift shop.

Really a neat place to go learn a little bit of Swedish history, more specifically Vikings and those type a fellas (and ladies, of course...) I just LOVED the ornate decorations, intricate woodwork, and all the little cool details everywhere. We were here for a financial-type meeting and dinner/drinks with about a hundred other MFs, and the self-guided tour around the property and buildings was definitely worth checking out, if you're so inclined... Recommended!

First time visit: Good covid practices. Fall 2020 quilt exhibit on the Black Civil Rights movement is remarkable and worth the visit. Outdoor patio seating with fun, tasty cuisine. Beautiful exhibits that are riding with the times - current pen/ink drawings, contemporary design mixed with original architecture. You need to get a ticket online first. There is a free gallery exhibit, so you can eat and see it for free. The shop is Swedish adorable, with lots of great gifts. Worth the admission cost.

As a fine art photographer - the Swedish House Institute is an absolute favorite venue for me to shoot weddings at! It is truly a space where I know I will be able to create jaw dropping photos....intricate details, a plethora of natural light, gardens that are just stunning, and a diversity of locations throughout the property make it perfect for weddings! On top of the beauty of the venue itself...the team at the Swedish House is also absolutely delightful to work with!

After years of living in the Twin Cities I finally got to go and check this place out! American Swedish Institute did NOT disappoint!! My partner and I took the family out to celebrate our son's 10th birthday (both kids are obsessed with mansions) The place was beautiful and the exhibit was incredible! I especially appreciated the friendly and helpful staff (shout out to Patty, a volunteer who was SO kind and fun!) She warmly welcomed us and charmed our kiddos, who insisted on going as their favorite video game characters (Luigi and Link) for the occasion. We will definitely be back!! :)
