Beautiful hike and it do get steep at some points! You will have to climb a small rock face if you want to get to the view here at the First Flatiron. My dog had no problem going up, but she's athletic so just be aware. Make sure to take a picture of the map so you don't get lost (you should still have phone signal if anything though). Parking will be an issue if you do not come before 7am. Lots of people also if you come after 7am. There are trashcans at the trailhead so dump ya trash there. Other than that, enjoy a moderate hike and enjoy the views!

Very fun hike with amazing views. The climb is a bit technical and steep, but it's definitely worth going up

This is one of my favorite hikes in Colorado. The hike can be very exhausting, but it is totally worth it! The views at the top are truly spectacular and seeing the flatirons from the top is absolutely mesmerizing! This is a must do hike if you are visiting the Boulder area!

It was a very cool trail with a steep incline up, but a breeze going down! Absolutely going to do some more free climbing next time I'm here! Was fairly crowded, but that may have been because of graduations occuring earlier that day, but overall an excellent hike!

Intermediate level; for beginners hike may seem intimidating as the incline begins pretty quickly from the trailhead, but keep going! The views are totally worth it. We took the Chautauqua trail-Flatiron 2/3 hike up and the Bluebird-Baird trail down. Enjoy the hike!

We planned to do the first and second flat iron hike while passing through Boulder on our way from Golden to Estes Park. Unfortunately, we were the day after the big September snow storm (that shouldn't be a thing). We didn't want to just sit around though, so we decided to still do the hike. It was kind of icy in the snow, but it wasn't terrible. It was pretty in the forest with all of the snow. It was very foggy, so we really couldn't see any views. We ended up turning around a little before the top because I couldn't feel my feet (my shoes were soaked and it was 30 degrees) and there were no views to see anyway. I'd love to come back to Boulder sometime and do this hike when I can enjoy the views and feel my toes!

The Flatirons in general hold a special place in my heart. Depending on the Flatiron, the park can be accessed from a couple areas, the most direct for the First Flatiron being Chataqua State Park. The Flatirons boast a few gorgeous hiking trails (for which the area is well known), at least one of which I believe will take you to the highest point (a summit) in the larger park. The Flatirons, themselves, however are also known nationally by the climbing community as being a great climbing destination.

Great hike if you are native to the area or visiting. Good for trail running too, but there are a few more rocks than I personally like to run on. The view is well worth the hike and highly recommend it!

Parking can be challenging (even on a weekday), there is plenty of water at trailhead, nice trail system, good signs. 👍

Went to college in Boulder. I had heard it was rather crowded now but we went on a colder day and it was just like I remember. Great, not many people, and beautiful.

Heavy mist around Boulder today (01/11/2023). So not much of a view. Was the only person atop the Flatirons late this evening. Decent workout as usual. There's a large boulder halfway up the trail that I have seen people struggle with while descending. Nothing too bad though. Besides that, the trail is well marked and easy to follow. Slippery icy patches in the switchbacks towards the upper sections of the trail. Spikes come in handy there. My Garmin recorded (3.36 miles, 1453 ft ascent, 1 hr 29 mins via the longer ski jump trail).

Easy trek but nevertheless a spectacular view over Boulder and the Flatiron are impressive

Climbed the 1st flatiron and it is a lot of fun. It is mostly just a steep angle, never vertical, but gear placement is sparse. You'll see a lot of people climbing without any gear which is doable but would mean almost certain death from most spots on it. Hike down was fine but the trail isn't great in spots and can be hard to follow until you get to the bottom of the flatiron again.
