👍👍 I started training at Capital MMA & Elite Fitness in Takoma Park fairly late in life, in my 40 and was little worried about being injured and all but I can say that I could not find a better, safer place to train with more competent, motivated, attentive and patient teachers and comrades in arms.... People often mention training, Capital, train, great, classes, students, Takoma, school, Park, years,

I started training at Capital MMA & Elite Fitness in Takoma Park fairly late in life, in my 40 and was little worried about being injured and all but I can say that I could not find a better, safer place to train with more competent, motivated, attentive and patient teachers and comrades in arms. In few years I trained i got in probably best shape I have been. The group of people that formed in these years in the academy is fantastic, these are one of the best training partners I had...It is great to see guys grow immensely in skill and conditioning in these few years. All in all excellent place to train in authentic, battle tested system. The only warning I can give is that it gets addictive!

Capital MMA & Elite Fitness located in Takoma Park has been great to me since I moved to the area in 2008. When I left NC and Charlottesville, VA, I was looking for that family friendly environment to train and teach. I was welcomed like as if I started with Capital MMA & Elite Fitness. Not only do I teach, but I've learn from such great students. Once potential students comes to the school, all of the students make them feel welcome. We believe in, No Martial Artist Left Behind.

Everything I have come to expect from Capital MMA and the Royce Gracie network! Stopped in to train while here on business. Staff and students were very welcoming and accomadating! If you're in the Takoma Park area, this is where you should train!!

I began training here in January of 2011. I had several years of of martial arts, but the vibe at Capital was something I hadn't experienced before; minimal hierarchy, no mysticism, a genuine and universal curiosity, and the "place for every pace" feel all set this club apart for me. I now train 3-4x/week and feel that I get a lot of nourishment here: conditioning and training, cognitive stimulation from the game of jiu-jitsu, and a pleasant social environment. As a nearly lifelong Takoma Park resident, I was delighted to see the school grow into its own and inhabit a new space this Spring. There's never been a better time to check this place out, and see what their Gracie Jiu-Jitsu or Muay Thai programs have to offer you.

I started training in Brazilian jiu jitsu when I turned 50, right before the pandemic. It's been a life altering experience! Both of my kids (6 & 4) now train as well. The coaches are super supportive and knowledgeable. Everyone, coaches and training partners, have been awesome companions on this journey. I highly recommend this school, and what it offers, to anyone of any age.

I've been taking jiu-jitsu classes here for the past four months and loving it! I first joined Coach Jen's twice-weekly women's classes which was a great way to get started in a non-threatening supportive environment. After the first month, I was hooked! I tripled my number of classes per week and branched out into co-ed classes. I've taken Coach Jen's classes (both women's and co-ed plus an 80+ person women's jiu-jitsu meetup one weekend!), classes with Coach Dave and Coach Jay, and also really enjoyed Coach Lamonte's bjj self-defense classes for their real-world application. Everyone here is so supportive; when taking classes the higher belts will patiently help me learn the moves, and during open mats they will go just beyond my ability to help me learn defenses and explain missed opportunities rather than just smashing me due to being stronger or more experienced. I am learning so much each week and can't wait to keep taking classes!

I have been training at Capital MMA & Elite Fitness in Takoma Park for close to 4 years. Above the amazing Jiu Jitsu program they offer is the even more amazing people that belong to Capital. My growth as a Jiu Jitsu practitioner is due more to the overwhelming concern and attention giving by the instructors and other teammates than anything else. There is no ego nor individualism that exists in the academy which facilitates and accelerates your growth in the sport. I have awesome training partners and have built great friendships along the way and that, to me, is the essence of the academy. The great part is that this also extends to their other locations in Alexandria, Loudon, and Fairfax as I have had the chance to train at all. So if you want to learn quality Royce Gracie Jiu Jitsu in an ego-free environment and train hard while building awesome relationships, this is the place for you.

All the five star reviews here perfectly showcase how great this place is. If you’ve been there, you know what I’m talking about. Trained muay thai there for about 6 months while I was in the area and met so many friendly people and great athletes. Coaches are phenomenal and give you a great workout every time. Whether you’re into BJJ, muay thai, boxing, judo, MMA, etc there’s something for you at any level. Highly recommend!

My 7 year old son has been training at Capital MMA/Takoma for the past year. Unlike other martial arts schools that seem impersonal and focused on making money, the folks at Capital are truly committed to building relationships with families and helping kids to grow as both young people and athletes. Kids classes are a nice size of 6-10 kids with 2-3 coaches. While active, but not really a "sports" kid, training jiu jitsu provides my son with a good balance of both physical activity and thinking for strategy.

I've been training with Capital MMA & Elite Fitness in Takoma Park for the past three years, and I could not be happier with my decision to join this gym. Even with no martial arts background, I immediately felt welcomed by both the coaches and other students. Everybody at Capital constantly pushes each other to become better, all while maintaining a safe, fun, and positive environment. I've personally become more motivated, improved my conditioning, and gained a bunch of great friends and training partners in the process.

An excellent school that has two Royce Gracie black belt instructors on staff. No other school in the area can say that. Very friendly place to train, the instructors and students are top notch. I love that the advanced students are always willing to share their knowledge with other students. BJJ, Judo, and Thai Boxing are offered, along with kettle bells and other conditioning activities. Kids program as well. I felt welcomed from the moment I set for in the school and felt like I have always been part of the school family. Awesome atmosphere and even better martial arts. It doesn't get any better than Gracie Jiu-Jitsu!
