There are plenty of things to do and see at the castle, if you are with private tour then you will get more time to explore. View from the top of tower is magnificent, steps aren’t that tough. Each room explains its history. Exploring the case mates below the ground was fun. Some areas are totally dark. I loved the countryside drive. Its worth to visit👍

The location of this castle is amazing. The view is just "perfect". The castle itself is nit that extraordinary. It is so bland... I went to the turret tower and it was definitely something you should do if you can scale that 145 steps. The steps are very wide.

Super entertaining castle for kids as well as a very intriguing museum. The story laid put by the staff for the kids to follow was very well thought out and immersive, they all really enjoyed it! It was also interesting to learn about the rich history of this UNESCO site!

This castle was a must visit since Hamlet was such an important piece we studied back in school. The castle is massive with lots of interesting things to see. You can also climb a set of spiral stairs to get a view from the top. The castle wasn’t very crowded which was very nice.

Such a beautiful place. We spent hours touring the grounds and there is a quaint city center nearby that had a festival happening. One of the best days we had in Denmark. A definite must see. —2016

Very nicely maintained, situated on coast with marvelous views to Sweden. There are lot of things around to see like beach, museums, garden. Walking distance from Helsingør Station which is well connected with Copenhagen. A lot of history is attached to this castle, so exciting to explore it. Entry fee is 145 kr for adults, children go for free.

This is the famous castle mentioned in Shakespeare's Hamlet, Kronborg. It's only an hour train ride north from Copenhagen. If you have purchased the Copenhagen city pass, your castle entrance is FREE. The souvenir shop inside the castle has a lot of stuff on Shakespeare. Come visit just to see the history, the beautiful scenery and ocean view. If you have the time, the ferry is a short distance from the castle and a 20-minute ride to Sweden. The Swedish people are NICE and friendly!!!!!

This  is a castle and stronghold. It is also famous world over as the setting of Shakespeare's Hamlet. The castle is open to visitors including the royal chambers, the ballroom, the chapel and various other sections. The staff provides a quick introduction after which one is free to explore the castle on their own. There was a lot to learn about the Danish history and specially about Kind Frederick II and his queen who was quite astute with managing the finances after the King. The castle is walking distance away from the Helsingör central station which is also where the ferry from Sweden disembarks. There are washrooms available in the castle premises.

The castle is very interesting and filled with history. I really am thankful for the amazing staff there. They are very good with speaking English and are very welcoming to everyone. Me and my group had a tour guide and he was incredibly funny and interesting. He told us a lot of things I didn’t know about the castles history.

Great castle. Before visiting it, didn’t even know, that hamlet was happening exactly in this castle. Distinctive place with quite a few interactive exposions, like the bed you can lay on and etc. worth visiting

Such a great experience. Our kids age 11,12,14 loved it and we brought our own lunch which we enjoyed near the castle. The view from the castle to Sweden was amazing. The basement of the castle was very exciting and we enjoyed the cold basement where the king would store his beer and where the soldiers would stay. I recommend this journey and experience to everyone who are historically interested 👌🌞

Kronborg Castle is an absolute treasure that deserves every one of its 5 stars. Steeped in history and famously known as the setting for Shakespeare's Hamlet, this castle is a must-visit destination. Walking through the halls and chambers of Kronborg Castle feels like stepping back in time. The rich tapestry of Danish history comes alive as you explore this magnificent fortress. From the imposing battlements to the intricate details of the interior, every corner tells a story. The connection to Shakespeare's Hamlet adds an extra layer of intrigue and fascination to the visit. It's as if you've stepped onto the stage of one of the most iconic plays in literary history. Kronborg Castle's location at the edge of the sea adds to its allure, offering stunning views of the surrounding waters. Whether you're a history buff, a literature enthusiast, or simply looking to immerse yourself in the beauty of Danish architecture, this castle has it all. Kronborg Castle is a historical and cultural marvel that should be on everyone's bucket list. It's a place where the past comes alive, and every moment feels like a journey through time.

One of the most important sights in Denmark that you must not miss. The museum in the castle takes you far back in the Danish history. Just opposite the castle there is a new Library which is also worth visiting. Helsingør itself is also a nice town worth seeing.

One of the most beautiful, interesting, fascinating places I have ever visited. The rich history of the castle and the location make it a very special site, and the exhibition by Jim Lyngvild was absolutely magnificent. Highly recommended!!

a magic place for Shakespear lovers. Beautiful castle, very nice to visit. The photo exhibition is awesome, my favorite part is the Casemates, you can feel there that something smells bad in Denmark… ;)

Fun castle to visit. Courtyard has lots of activities, like stilt walking and how medieval workmen used pulley systems to lift stones. Jesters, and Courtisan actors around the castle to provide interactive fun. Castle rooms interesting with lots of well written information. And encouraged to sit / touch / play act in parts... even a Hamlet set.

Great castle at 40 min from Copenhagen. You can travel Elsinore and later go to modern art museum in Hellerup. Lot of rooms to see. And don't forget go around the castle to enjoy her views. Beach is not availabe

The castle is worth visiting even without paying to go inside (the ticket is kinda pricey, 14€ per person). The place looks wonderful, and while resting on the beach we even sighted a wild seal and a harbour porpoise! Around the castle there are lots of workshop and art galleries which is nice as it feels like local artists really have a way to express themselves and get the possibility to expose their work. The little gift shop is also a bit pricey but it has funny little Hamlet-themed quirks. Too bad they didn't write "to be or not to baby" on the baby onesie 😆

A beautiful city 15th-century Kronborg Castle provided the setting for Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” Nearby, the M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark illustrates 600 years of Danish seafaring history.

Very nice place to visit. We arrived before less than an hour before closing, but it was still worth it just for the view from the tower. I'll definitely come back ❤️

To be or not to be! Beautiful from the outside, but unfortunately closed when I got there—they do *not* open at 10 in the winter. Make sure you get there for hours from 11-4 if it’s January-April!

I loved this castle on the shore of Helsingør. It is very exquisite and has beautiful fortifications. The barracks are colorful and a walk right here can be really rewarding for the eyes and soul

A good museum but it felt like it could be great. The phone-based tour seemed incomplete and didn't flow well; also three of the four "tracks" were only in Danish (perhaps it's very new?). The live action guides were okay but also could have been more engaging with adults. The "cafe" was disappointing.

Thoughtful, fun cultural spot to visit. Well-curated exhibits, easily navigable areas that respect the architecture while delivering a modern experience of real history. Nearby to a food hall, with two coffee shops. Highly recommend!

A vast castle and grounds right on the water. Worth the visit and ticket in to see the interior. A little bit of back tracking right now due to the path they laid out for covid purposes, but not very busy at the time we visited.

The castle is spacious and pretty. When we visited, there was an exhibition Magical Ceilings highlighting their beauty. However, some rooms only have natural light and, therefore, some rooms were too dark to see the furniture and paintings well.

  • 5/5 Rahab M. 2 years ago on Google
The castle is beautiful inside and outside. It showcases a lot of rich Danish history involving all the Kings and Queens that have ruled Denmark since the 1700s. The castle also has a fantastic view of the sea and Sweden which is just a few kilometers. If you enjoy history and culture, then this is the place to be!

Simple and Beautiful. You can expect crowd. Tickets mandatory to enter the slot/castle. Must visit if in town. Place for kids to play and picnic. Enjoy scenic beauty next to sea.

Somehow reminds me of Hogwarts. Big and imposing. At a second glance many different aspects to place as well as to the exhibitions within. Also take your time to walk the surroundings, its worthwhile.

It's really just ok. The outside area is wonderful but inside it is just a bit inauthentic with little information on what is what. Compared to other Castles in Europe and even Denmark, it is really lacking.

Great as a day trip from Copenhagen (which we combined with the Louisiana Museum as well). The castle is great and the short introductory chat you can listen to was really informative and the staff were all lovely. Definitely recommend walking around the town as well.

Beautiful castle and grounds to walk around. We didn’t make it in time to go inside the museum. But the views of the water are worth going. This is where Shakespeare wrote Hamlet.

  • 5/5 Smriti S. 5 months ago on Google
It is a scenic castle. It was the location of Shakespeare's play Hamlet and that is why I visited it. The castle and the moat well-maintained. The rooms are huge with minimal furnishings. One place is kept for kids to colour or make things from Lego pieces.

Fabulous palace/Castle with plenty of history. Amazing display of the Royal linage through the eyes of a modern photographer. The vaults were fun - take photos inbthe dark brown see extra info and pictures on the walls. Probably a bit too much for young ones but there are some historic games to play with in tge courtyard - hoops, stilts.

A very nice place for a day visit. We unfortunately had only a few hours before closing so we missed the exhibitions on the barracks. I do recommend reserving at least 4 hours for exploring.

Absolutely loved this castle. We had a wonderful English tour guide. He was very entertaining. After the tour when went into the bowels of castle. We also got to see Holger the Dane.

Great castle with significant history behind. Lots to see and to do for children and adults. There's a play room for kids with lots of lego and some drawing equipment.

  • 5/5 Arup D. 9 months ago on Google
Lovely place for a day visit. It took about 3 hours for us to complete our tour. We had our Copenhagen card so our entry was free. There was a game going on where visitors can vote who's going to be the next king as we entered at a time when King hamlet is dead and the throne needs a successor. The Kings brother had just married the Kings widow. The Kings son is so in the running, so is the queen. We were given a piece of paper to vote after listening to the pitch of each candidate. It was fun.

  • 5/5 Gummer S. 1 year ago on Google
We were short on time so we didn't buy a ticket to go inside. The perimeter is full of interesting things to look at like knolls and cannons. You'll find plenty of coffee shops with chocolates and cool female servers with bangs and thick rimmed eye-glasses.

  • 5/5 Descartes 9 months ago on Google
Spectacular castle. The grounds around the castle are beautiful and the castle itself really gave you a sense of what it was like in the distant past. There are actors in period clothing around which add to the effect. Ask about the "pie room", though you made need a private tour for that. The "casements" were of particular interest, and suitably creepy and mysterious.

  • 5/5 Shivesh K. 8 months ago on Google
Kronborg Castle is a treasure, transporting visitors back in time with its rich history and breathtaking architecture. Don't miss the chance to see the famous "Hamlet's Castle" where Shakespeare's iconic tragedy was set – it's truly magical. Besides the captivating history, the castle is surrounded by well-maintained gardens, providing a peaceful spot to relax and take in the panoramic views.

  • 5/5 Alice R. 1 year ago on Google
incredibly beautiful castle ticket gives access to all the rooms - a special atmosphere of the past has been preserved here I highly recommend visiting the casemates

An interesting castle. Feels quite bare inside and not as Original interiors as the other palaces and castles we visited. The site itself is different and really interesting star fort design. Beautiful views over to Sweden too!

  • 5/5 Alexander B. 1 year ago on Google
Brilliant place to explore and learn. The information is very brief in each room so it keeps it from being too much of a bore. Some really interesting facts shared and the security guard is brilliant to talk with, clearly loves his job.

  • 5/5 Dimitar D. 1 year ago on Google
I can just confirm all the other positive reviews of the place. There is a lot to see inside, learn new stuff about Denmark and its kings. Basically a short trip back in time :) Enjoy!

  • 5/5 BuriBuriBear 1 year ago on Google
It was worth a visit definitely if you're visiting copenhagen! The famous Hamlet castle that inspired Shakespeare but has nothing to do with the story history wise! It was as grand as other castles in Denmark, but it's uniqness as a fortress, and its by the sea, the view was awesome! The creepy underground dungeon experience, I dare you to explore on a non-crowded day....
