This palace is a must visit when in Denmark as it tells us the story of the kingdom.of Denmark and all the kings and queens who have ruled the place. This small country has managed to send it's armed soldiers all over the world and create colonies. The extravagant lives lived by these kings and queens are a sight to visit and learn. I enjoyed my visit to this palace. The local guide helped us with all the intricate details of each and every part of the palace. I highly recommend getting a guide here while visiting the palace, since otherwise we would miss the essence of visiting the place. The bus parking is across the road.

Visited in Nov 2023 with Copenhagen Card. I went here after visiting the ruins, oh wow what a different atmosphere, felt majestic! We need to wear the provided plastic shoes cover inside the place. Cloakroom is next to the souvenir shop. Navigating inside was easy as they provide layout map. I would suggest to take a look out of the window as it offers interesting views too. The Library was cute!

The staff were amazing. The app used to tour is so helpful and informative. Of all the museums we saw on our Copenhagen trip I thought this one was the best presentation. I loved the Royal Reception Rooms but honestly no part of this tour disappointed

Beautiful place, there is stables with horses but keep quiet so they can rest. You can go up to the tower for free but you have to pass a security check, at the tower there is a free toilet and at the tower there a beautiful view. When you go out the second elevator will take you to an automatic door and you will ve outside.

The palace was a beautiful place to visit. You’re guided through the main palace where you see the various rooms that the royal family and the prime minister use. The room with the tapestries is something else. The castle ruins are worth visiting and is an extensive tour in itself. It’s very well laid out and you learn a lot of the palace’s history. The kitchen is interesting but won’t take much time. Be aware that the castle chapel is only open for visitation during the weekend and that the stables are only open after 1.30pm.

The experience was pretty much amazing. The royal rooms and halls are impressive. The ruins were also interesting. The royal kitchen was also fine. The only downside is that, when we visited, the stables were closed... We bought a full ticket, but we could only enjoy 75% of it...

Loads to do here! I particularly loved the tall tower, and touring parliament. Be aware queues for the tower go crazy - I'd recommend queuing up 10 minutes before it opens (that's all you need) rather than just rocking up halfway through the day. You can also tour parliament, walk round the palace, and explore the ruins. A morning well spent! If you're visiting for a weekend, the Copenhagen Card is the best-value way to get in.

Excellent palace! Exquisitely and meticulously curated palace of distinctive taste and grandeur, without being overbearing. Elegance of the Queen of Denmark was very impressive. Wish we had more time to explore further. Next time!

Beautiful place and definitely worth visiting on a trip to Copenhagen. Allow half a day to make your way through all the different exhibits. If you don’t have the time or inclination to see all exhibits, the Queens tapestries in The Great Hall and the Tower are the two to see. The tower has a commanding view out over the city. And the tapestries are different to anything you’ll have seen anywhere else - they alone are worth the visit!

Such a wonderful experience. Impressive palace, amazingly organized and super clean. All the rooms have something special. It’s like a museum of art, with paintings and sculptures and spectacular ancient furniture. The great hall is stunning with all the colorful pieces visualizing the history of Denmark. The queen’s library is beautiful. The part of the kitchen is super cute. There’s a smell of cake baking in there! The part of the ruins is interesting, especially the story of Leonora Christina. The royal stables are nice too. The staff is super friendly. Highly recommend.

It was really interesting and FREE to up up in the tower. Great views of the city from up there. However to see the ruins under the castle cost 75 crows and was relatively interesting... But not mind-blowing.

Beautiful Palace with stunning decor, art and history. I found the history of the palace and its location fascinating and through so many wars and fires, a real gem is now in permanent place. Everyone working here was so friendly and cheerful, also really helpful. Lockers are handy and lots of toilets around the place. Really fabulous visit on our last day in Copenhagen.

Historic castle that is the Queen's office and Parliament. One can visit the ruins, the stables, the kitchen, and the Royal Reception rooms. My favorite are the Royal Reception rooms, but all are interesting to view. Note that each place of visit has a separate entrance from the others.

Die Schlossbesichtigung lohnt sich, etwas ob Turm, Schloss, Reithalle, Ruine oder die Schlossküche. Es gibt ein Kombiticket was ich empfehlen würde (wenn man nicht die Kopenhagen Card hat)

Walking through this castle was inspiring. Such a stunning castle where each room had something to offer. Some favourites: the tapestry room, the library and China display. The ruins were okay, and the kitchen was a quick walk through that is will probably be enjoyed mostly by those who like to cook. Don’t miss this!

This palace is opulent, ornate, and what the young people would call "bougie!" The interior reminded me of the Palace of Versailles in France. It was amazing to see the number of chairs that could fit the massive dining table. Everything was so beautiful, and the intricate details of the walls and doors reminded me of "the gates of paradise" in Florence, Italy. So check it out and see for yourself what you see. If you have the Copenhagen City pass, the entry is FREE.

Beautiful place and they give free entrance to top of the building. Yes with elevator. Perfect place to see city from some heights. Just be ready to stand in a long queue. It’s worth. Go early in morning and you will get less people in queue. They also have good restaurant on top. Actually that is the reason they give free access to top with elevator. It is most recommended place to visit if you want to see Copenhagen from some height.

Really lots to see here. The main exhibit takes you round the rooms used for state functions. I would definitely recommend setting up the Useeum app on your phone to give you the free audio tour. The rooms are beautiful to look at and the palace has a fascinating history. There is a separate exhibit for the ruins of older castles beneath the courtyard, and you can also tour the old kitchens.

It rained on this day so we went to the Palace..and what a FANTASTIC experience!..even down to the CSI slip on paper overshoes! We spent most of the day here..unfortunately the stables downstairs were empty because the horses were away on summer holiday. Not over priced and plenty to see.

Christiansborg Slotsplads (English: Christiansborg Palace Square) is a public square on the island of Slotsholmen in the centre of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is located in front of Christiansborg Palace. Due to its large size, central location and close affiliation with the central government building, it has for centuries been a hub of political life in Denmark and is a popular venue for a variety of demonstrations, celebrations and events. Cultural references Christiansborg Slotsplads is used as a location at 0:59:11 in the 1974 Olsen-banden film The Last Exploits of the Olsen Gang. Excerpt from Wikipedia

We enjoyed visiting Christiansborg Palace after we saw it for the first time from our canal boat tour. We only saw the outside but plan to see the museum when you visit. We did enjoy the ruins to learn more about the history of this site. Check out the RetiredAndTravelling blog for all the details.

Christiansborg Palace, like many buildings in Copenhagen, has been cursed by fire throughout its lifetime. It's now the seat of the Danish Parliament and the Supreme Court of Denmark, but some parts of the palace are still used by the Danish monarch, including the Royal Stables. You can access its tower for free, still the tallest in the city, but you have to go through a security check. There is also a restaurant at the top. There, you'll have a 360° view of the city and, if the weather is favourable, you can see the Øresund Bridge and the Turning Torso building in Malmö on the Swedish side of the Öresund strait.

Didn't expect to stay as long as we did, but several hours later we emerged. Bought the all inclusive ticket so we saw all the different parts (reception rooms, stables, kitchen and ruins) which you have to pay for separately. So the one price for all bits made sense. Thought the kitchen was a bit naff if I'm honest. It was one room and not really worth the visit The stables and ruins (currently with added monsters) were ok. But the reception rooms were amazing. Especially the tapestry room. This is where we spent most of our time. You have to wear boot slippers over your shoes which is totally understandable. There isn't much in terms of food and drink, but loads of cafes across the road. If you download the Useeum app, you can get an audio tour guide free. No backpacks are allowed, but free lockers are available.

A nice castle still in use for ceremonies by the royal family, you can visit the royal kitchen, the Great hall, the royal stables and the ruins of the previous middle age castle. The visit of the Great all is interesting, for the rest nothing special. I do not recommend the stables, you will see few horses and carriages and it's only opened from 13h30 until 16h00.

🏰 Christiansborg Palace is an absolute marvel! 😍 Stepping into this majestic landmark in Copenhagen was like entering a fairytale world. The grandeur and historical significance of the palace left me in awe. The moment I set foot inside, I was greeted by the most breathtaking architecture and intricate details that instantly transported me back in time. 🎨 Every corner of Christiansborg Palace is a work of art! The lavish reception rooms filled with beautiful paintings and sculptures took my breath away. The attention to detail was simply mesmerizing. The royal chapel was a sight to behold, and I couldn't help but imagine the grand ceremonies that once took place within its walls. 🏛️ The highlight of my visit was exploring the ancient ruins beneath the palace. Discovering the remnants of past palaces was like unearthing hidden secrets of history. It felt like I was peering into the soul of Denmark itself, uncovering layers of stories and heritage. 🌇 Oh, the view from the tower! As I ascended to the top, my eyes widened with wonder at the breathtaking panoramic vistas of Copenhagen. The city's skyline, with its elegant spires and picturesque waterfront, unfolded before me like a masterpiece. It was a moment of pure enchantment. 💫 Christiansborg Palace is a must-visit for anyone seeking a captivating journey through Danish history and culture. From the regal ambiance to the rich heritage, this palace offers an experience that will leave you spellbound. It's a true gem in the heart of Copenhagen! 👑🇩🇰

We visited used the Copenhagen card, there are two types we got the one with transport. The reception rooms take about 2 to 3 hours. Like most of the museums there are lockers for big bulky coats upon need. Toilets, again another feature we noticed in Copenhagen are first class. We were getting a bit museums out. There are separate buildings as well as stables, if you into horses could be a places for you, but few stuffed one if you are sensitive be aware. There lot of art and skilled decorations in the buildings. Well worth a visit

The Royal Christiansborg palace is a beautiful representation of the rich cultural heritage of Denmark. The internal beauty in the palace is intricate and very well preserved. The entry fee is a bit high, but it’s worth it if you are a history and cultural heritage lover. The castle is a majestic fusion of history and modern governance. Its imposing facade and regal architecture command attention, while the interior offers a fascinating glimpse into Denmark's political heritage. Highly recommended to visit if you are in Copenhagen.

Extremely friendly staff and a place of historical sites for learning of Denmark royal life. The only suggestion is to have clearer and larger signs indicating each site at the palace. I had the impression I could go to the top of the castle (full ticket), but I was not able to find its entrance. I end up almost walked into a restaurant until a staff explained to me it was a restaurant. I love Danish people, friendly and helpful !!

Unexpectedly sumptuous, terrific plasterwork on many ceilings and in the main decorations are not too gaudy. Good amount of information as you walk around. The ruins are worth a visit as it's the third palace (and fourth building) on the site, here though the information is a little disjointed. Enjoyed the "princess in the tower"story. The Theatre was closed but there are also the stables and kitchens to visit. We visited in February, no queues but wet, windy and snow just added to the overall atmosphere.

Beautiful palace with informative map. There are interesting carpets on the walls in the Great Hall. Worth buying ticket for the whole palace. Kitchen exhibition is fun aswell. Note that stables open hours are different from other parts of the museum.

Free to go up the Christiansborg Palace tower with nice 360 degree views. There are some information templates highlighting landmark buildings and a little booklet you can pick up on the way in to read a bit more about the building and its history. The weather was very windy and rainy when we were up there, but apparently on a clear day you can see all the way to Sweden. There is a little security station you have to pass through before getting in.

Worth a visit. The reception rooms and stables are particularly good, the tower, kitchen and ruins can be skipped if you have limited time (or don’t want to pay for a full ticket). The 20% discount from the canal tour only applies to the full ticket to all attractions.

Must to go when in Copenhagen. You can visit 4 places by one ticket: ruins, palace, kitchen and stable. You can learn the history of Copenhagen in "ruins" and find the beautiful decoration in palace. I didn't go to stable, since the smell was so bad....... I couldn't stand it

  • 4/5 Eileen W. 3 years ago on Google
I visited the palace in August 2019 with the Copenhagen Pass, as part of the self-guided "Copenhagen City Walk" in Rick Steves "Scandinavian & Northern European Cruise Ports Guidebook" (fantastic book!). Wonderful to go through all the big huge rooms, though most did not have a lot of period furniture or decorations. I stumbled upon a free tour and joined in - there were lots of people on it, 30 or 40 people. The guide gave more useful information, though it went on a little too long as my time was very limited, and I had to leave the tour after a few rooms.

A must visit for anyone in Copenhagen who wants to experience some of its history. After the addition of the m3 line (Gammel Strand), commuting here is easy from Copenhagen Central Station. There's a single ticket inside that provides access to the 4 main sites (the Royal kitchen, the reception rooms, the ruins underground and the stable) and costs 160 kr. The palace is well maintained and there is not a lot of crowd on weekdays. There's also a theatre museum really close to it.

Beautiful architecture and the wood works are just sublime. I could have stood all day there looking at the little details. This palace is for sale and apparently McDonalds wants to purchase it. We visited this palace through the free walking tour so they told us fun facts about it.

Amazing castle with a very interesting history. Starting from the ruins beneath the castle and up to the royals reception halls, you get a integral picture of the history of Christianborg Palace from the 13th century to modern times. And of course you should go up the tower to get a panoramic view of the city of Copenhagen. Highly recommended!

There's quite a lot to see. Because we didn't expect it, the ruins under the castle were our favorite bit. We were a group of six adults and the exhibition with monsters was interesting and informative. We didn't visit the kitchens because we were short on time, but I am sure they would be interesting too.

Considering it is free to go up the tower, i think it is a really nice deal. The security is no joke here, you will be scanned to go up the tower and the view is worth it on a nice weather day. We did not have such luck bit still pretty nice i would say. The staff working there are friendly. To see the stables, carts and artillery you have to pay. With the copemhagen card, we did not have to worry about it. To see the parliament, you need to book a guided visit tour, which we did not.

It’s a pretty neat place to take a quick walk in. We went in the cathedral first, it was absolutely stunning and the guard was able to give us some quick history about it. They also have pictures and posters up to read. The palace itself if cool as well, we didn’t take a tour on the inside but they offers bundles in order to do it all. The Palace is unoccupied at the moment and they also have ruins you can discover. Fun experience overall.

A very beautiful palace. The entrance fee is covered in the Copenhagen card. You don't need to book your visiting times unlike Rosenborg or Amelianborg. Various areas to visit within the palace grounds like the reception room, royal kitchen, stables and ruins. The most interesting in the reception room. You can also take an elevator to the top of the tower.

This is a must see in Copenhagen, a gorgeous historical building which houses the Danish parliament, the supreme court as well as rooms used by the royal family. It is part of a complex of government and royal buildings in an island in the centre. Most attractions cost, entrance to the tower is free.

  • 5/5 Brian H. 1 year ago on Google
August 2022 • A must visit when in Copenhagen! Beautiful both inside and out with many other segments to tour besides the main palace, such as the ruins beneath (some interesting history to read about down here + kid friendly), the kitchen, the stables, the tower & more. All of these attractions are included in the Copenhagen Card, which I highly recommend as well!

Looked nice and the staff were incredibly friendly. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: The ruins! There's a cool spooky monster exhibit in there in addition to the old remnants of Absalon's fortress. They have really cool and insightful descriptions and some neat sculptures. Highly recommended for locals and tourists alike.

We really liked visiting this castle! I definitely recommend getting the ticket that allows access to all four entry points (castle, kitchens, ruins, stables). The kitchens were really cool, as were the ruins - don't skip those! These were the only kitchens viewable of all the castles in town plus at Fredericksborg Slot.

Amazing place and love the way the audio tour worked where you can download the app and play it at your own convenience. You can get the entrance ticket which allows you access to 4 areas which saves you 40% so don’t even hesitate and just go for it! Don’t forget to learn more about the tapestries as they have a separate audio series just to explain each individual tapestry. The royal stables open from 1.30pm so be sure to plan out your schedule - you can probably go for lunch nearby and then head back after lunch to explore the stables.. interesting history to learn.. Should take you around 30 mins to complete this section. Make sure you don’t miss this Palace!

Former royal residence..currently used for state functions and dinners: prime minister's office, parliament and supreme court are located here. Beautiful rooms, paintings, furnishings. Well worth the visit. Chapel is open only on Sundays. Short on time, so we only visited the Palace rooms and chapel. There is also a stable area, and ruins.

I am a tourist from Indonesia and the first time here. I think this is a beautiful and awesome place. To enter the gallery, I use the Copenhagen card. You can also buy entrance tickets on the spot. Before entering the palace, you are required to use a cover for footwear so that the palace is kept clean. I came in the morning and at that time quite a lot of visitors. Here you can see various rooms in the palace such as the dining room, hall, library, and even the cutlery collection. You can also learn about the history of this place. This place is suitable to be visited with a partner or alone. You can feel inspired when you leave here. This place also provides a gift shop.

Free for one visit on the Copenhagen card. You have to wear plastic foot coverings to enter. The app is informative and you can listen your own audio guide. Learned a lot about the history of denmark and the royal families and the rooms are preserved (although most of it was rebuilt after the fire). Some very modern tapestries at one of the rooms.

This has a really big courtyard for the horses. Its Open to the public has access from both sides. Its all flat ground. And so peaceful to walk around. It was very empty and spacious, not like the busy streets of Copenhagen. Its very easily accessible has bus stop close by for different buses and a short walk away from the main central train station.

We only visited the top of this building where you have an awesome view. At first, we thought that there is a ticket office or something but it was free entry. You only need to pass security protocol when you enter a building. There are two elevators. The first one is on the fourth floor and the second for the top (sixth floor). On the fourth floor is a restaurant but we didn't enter because there was a private celebration.

Things close quite early so I only had time to visit one part of the palace. The tapestries are quite striking and a perfect marriage between old and new. The highlight for me was definitely the library that looks out of beauty and the beast.

Christiansborg Palace is set in the very center of CPH. The Palace history is very long dating back as the Power seat to 12 cent, when it used to be a simple Bishop's Castle. Over the centuries the Palace was enlarged and remodeled becoming the CPH Castle. The Palace complex we see today is the Third one. First Palace was built in 18 c adding two side wings to the existing Castle. In 19 and 20 c these wings were enlarged again and today the Palace houses the Danish Parliament, Prime Minister office and Royal Rooms which serve for Royal ceremonies, foreign Heads of States receptions, Law singings, etc... There are five parts to see within the complex, and the CPH card I strongly suggest for sightseeing CPH covers all of them. These are: - Royal Stables with horses and Royal carriages (imo the most interesting part), - Royal Kitchen (also interesting with ages kitchenware), - Royal Rooms (lavish decorated, but seen many times in many European palaces), - Ruins beneath the complex from the previous Palaces and - Royal Chapel (open only on certain days). Count on around 2 hours for a proper visit

It's included in the Copenhagen Card. The palace is big, very interesting. It is divided into 4 parts for visitation: the palace, the palace kitchen, the stable and the ruins. We can pay everything together or separately, we pay everything together (I think it's a bit expensive), but I honestly believe that the ruins are the most boring part, I wouldn't do it again. The side church is free, but it was closed. It has a place to put bags and coats before entering with a padlock, very secure. The app has a guide tour and a game for children (and adults). It is worth it.

It's good to see a nice historical royal place. We took complete package but unfortunately the royal stable was closed. It is possible to choose what you want to see. I would recommend reception. It takes around 2 hours to see everything. Also, bagpacks and umbrellas are not allowed inside. They have provided lockers with free of charge.

Imposing complex of buildings definitely worth a visit. The most important political place in Copenhagen, as it houses all three branches of the state power. Has sort of a mysterious and brooding aura, that is the most noticeable in a bit of a stormy weather. Recommend going to take a look then.

My kids didn’t really enjoy the ruins as much as I thought they would, but my husband and I enjoyed them. Wonderful history. I also like the free audio tour they have (must need a smart phone) and how they connected what was happening at Christamborg to global historical events.

An iconic palace of the Dutch royalty with a centuries long history of being built, burned to the ground or destroyed by invaders, then rebuilt. It is still used for official royal functions and still has the stables with the royal horses and carriages. You can visit the rooms in the palace used for social gatherings and official functions now, the old kitchen (not really used now), the stables, the chapel, and the ruins underneath the main building. Entrance fee is based on how many of these areas that you want to visit. You can buy tickets online to avoid waiting in line. Plan on about 2 hours, at least, to explore everything and watch the informational videos. Be sure to visit this palace in Stockholm!

This palace will tell you the story of the Kingdom of Denmark and the family of kings and queens . Tower wasn’t open to public, before taking the whole tour they didn’t mentioned that. People are very friendly and polite. Try to take the free tour or you can check the audio tour too. Worth to visit

Beautiful palace, everything was very pretty. We did a full tour of all 4 options. The kitchen and underground are not that big but if you have time to kill I would recommend. The staples were also very cool to see!

A stunning place. You must see. There's the palace and kitchen. The palace may be closed depending on the situation. The royal kitchen is usually open. Highly recommend that you purchase the CPH card and enjoy visiting plenty of attractions.

Christiansborg was a perfect choice for a cold, rainy winter day. Easily accessible via public transport we pretty much spent the majority of a day here. We did the tour of the various parts of the palace self-guided which allowed us to take our time and focus on things that interested us. Our only regret is that we didn't leave enough time to see the stables as it was minutes from closing by the time we got there. We weren't able to get reservations for the Tårnet / tower, but the did allow us to go up and we were given seats on stops by the windows overlooking the grounds - very nice.

I want to be honest up front: most of the palace's visitor areas were closed for an official event. The only open areas were the ruins and kitchens. I only visited the ruins because the kitchens would've just made me hungry, I was only in Copenhagen a few days, and there was more to see. I would give this 3.5 stars. Anyway, I used my Copenhagen Card to visit the ruins under the Palace courtyard. It's a few steps down and I don't believe any part is handicap accessible, just FYI. Also, no locker usage required like at most other sites. Which is actually good since it was a constant cooler temperature underground and I was glad of my coat. I recommend using the free audio guide app. All of the signage for each area is also in English, except the diary (so kids that can't read Danish can't play the mystery game). There's a decent amount to see, but it's also a fair amount of historical guesswork with nearly 1000 years gone by. I did like the prisoner and war histories.

We went and bought tickets on the spot. We only visited kings palace the entrance tickets was around 13 euros. Other objects we didn’t visit, but you can buy full passage tickets, which is around 35€ and with that’s one you can visit the kitchen, Royale, barracks, and other objects. It was beautiful and the queens library is breathtaking.

Some breathtaking architecture, beautiful rooms and amazing to have snow and white horses roaming. It has lockers free of charge to store bags, and foot coverings while roaming the palace.

Really enjoyed the visit here on a guided tour. Some of the art is superb; the contemporary work sublime. The library is glorious. A real gem.
