We had a great time here. Very interesting, with the Danish crown treasure and a very well preserved castle. This one is a must see in Copenhagen. One ticket gets you in both the Treasury and the Castle. The castle is unique as most of it is original from the 1600’s. Very cool!

Well worth the visit to view the Crown Jewels of Denmark and some of the expert craftsmanship on display throughout the castle, but especially so in the basement. Opulence to the extreme is the theme here, with a detailed guidebook to explain the significance of each room and artifact. Well worth the visit for your visit, especially those interested in royal history.

We were glad we visited the Rosenberg Castle. Our first glimpse was from the Botanical Gardens. We enjoyed a walk through the gardens and across the moat. We saw the royal guards but not a changing ceremony. The inside of the castle was stunning and should not be missed. Check out the RetiredAndTravelling blog for all the details.

Small yet beautiful and historic castle in Copenhagen. Set in a spacious, green park with tree-lined pathways and a massive rose garden. The moat is filled with giant carp. So many you can pet them. The castle entrance is protected by armed soldiers so don’t do anything stupid.😎 Nice place to get away from the busy shopping area which is only blocks away. Has good washroom facilities. Really nice place to walk around and stop to smell the roses and check out the old statues from Denmark’s history.

This old palace houses a lot of old royal paintings and treasures. The crowns and jewelry are shown in the basement. However, you have to walk up three floors and one floor down to the basement to see all these. No lifts. Bathrooms are also outside the building. The garden is open to the public. It has a separate entrance. That means you cannot walk directly from the castle to the garden.

Must see place and visit. Old crown fortress and place to stay plus treasury. It is always full of people and visitors. There is no parking near but it’s good connected with public transportation. Gardens are beautiful but not connected with the castle (you must leave one to enter another).

The castle is small but beautiful. It was less busy than castles we've been to in the past which allowed you to take your time and admire the castle. If your ticket gives you access to the Treasury, that is really beautiful. Combined, the castle took us an hour and a half. That may be reduced if you don't stop to read the information they have displayed. We enjoyed our time there.

A must see if in Copenhagen!! This castle is beautiful and it's also worth it to spend some time in the gardens surrounding the castle! The visit covers 3 floors with descriptions of all the rooms via a website that guides you through. In the basement, the crown Jewels which are incredible to see! One tip would be: if you're looking to visit also other museums, you should buy the multi-pass that will allow you to enter in 6 different places! Don't miss this!

Definitely worth visiting while in Copenhagen. Be sure to go early as there are usually lines for admission. Allow 2 hours or more to see the castle and make your way through the different exhibits. Student discounts apply for admission, so if you have a student card do take it with you.

Breathtakingly beautiful castle with a huge and rich collection of antiques and valuable items. The garden of the castle is some of the most picturesque gardens in Copenhagen, especially during the summer season. The staff is super kind and friendly. Very impressive exhibition of artwork, the Crown Jewels, etc. The rooms are renovating nicely and you are able to follow the diversity of furniture during the different periods.

I had a great time visiting the castle. The Staff was helpful and so friendly. They have discount for students, independently of their age. They also have lockers for bigger bags and there's no additional cost to it. The castle is pretty and the tour is well organised by each floor. You will receive a written guide with information about each room (available in many languages). It's easy to read the map and it helps you to define your route. They sell tickets by slots, so it's not over crowded, allowing you to observe everything in your own pace. We arrived 11.25, so we could see the guards marching towards the amalienborg palace for the change. Even though the castle isn't enormous, you will find plenty of nice furniture and objects inside the rooms. It's composed by 3 floors + basement (where the jewellery are). Overall, a nice experience and I highly recommend

Amazing Castle to visit. If you are an enthusiast of such places, this is definitely for you. If you're not into it, it's still fun to come see and explore, see the change of guards and chill in the gardens. The toilets are relatively clean if a bit small. The price for the ticket was 120 DKK.

Wow! This castle is amazing! The amount of furniture inside here in absolutely incredible! There are loads of rooms to visit here. From the gigantic hall at the top to the small, medieval bathroom at the end, this was just shocking. Definitely recommend coming here! 5 stars! Best castle I've ever been in!

If you haven't visited this fabulous place yet, hurry up! You will fall in love with this castle, park... every tree and sculpture, and pond, and every turret of the castle, and just a forged metal gate - this is a story and a fairy tale! This is the place where you can take a break from life and let yourself relax and dream, enjoy the scent of flowers and marvel at the size of the carps in the pond around the castle... Any time you spend here will be impressive!🍁🍃🍂

A beautiful castle from the outside, filled with decadent displays of royal wealth on the inside. It's good value for the price as each room has something fascinating to look at. The basement, featuring the collection of ivory sculptures and the crown jewels is absolutely amazing, it's truly staggering how much wealth is on display here. The outside rose gardens are also lovely to walk through and get a great view of the castle.

I had been to Copenhagen a couple of times before but didn't get a chance to visit Rosenborg Castle. This time, I did and was totally worth it. Loved ancient history and was amazed by the beautiful architecture of the castle. If you are in Copenhagen, you must visit here.

Definitely worth the visit if you’re in Copenhagen, my highlight of my visit would be The Royal Treasury: The castle’s treasury house, a dazzling array of royal regalia. Diamonds, pearls, and gem-studded scepters gleam behind thick glass. These artifacts, once worn by monarchs, now rest in quiet splendor. Each piece tells a saga—a narrative of power, love, and ambition.

I went to go and visit Rosenborg Castle on my trip through Copenhagen, but it was closed. There is a fantastic view of it from both the botanical gardens and the military barracks next door. Fair warning though, if you attempt to go onto the military barrack grounds, like my group unknowingly and accidentally did, you will most likely gets guns with large bayonets pointed at you. The guards are friendly when they learned we were Americans, but I would still reccommend snapping pictures from the botanical gardens instead.

A rather un castle like castle - located in Copenhagen, Denmark. The gardens abs the architecture are visually appealing to say the least. Inside the castle is open to the public for tours and houses a museum exhibiting the Royal Collections. There is a nice cafe on the grounds. The floral garden by the moat is a good spot as any on the grounds just has more colours. The display of the Crown Jewels is worthy of mention. It’s a petite castle with a really nice layout and sprawling green grounds.

What a wonderful historic location, and a lot to learn about the royal Danish lineage and to see their wealth. It must be experienced in person. Came here with my family on a harsh windy and snowy day and the castle made me forget where I was for a bit. They also have free lockers to use because they do not allow bags, strollers or wagons inside. Very nice of them.👌

Great place if you are interested in history of Danish Emperor. Guided visit on leaflet for each rooms of the castle. The main hall at third floor is also a good place for taking pics. Included in the Copenhagen Pass so highly recommend people with it to spend a morning on it.

Small castle with some interesting rooms. My favourite is the mirrors room. The free map is very informative with good tidbits about each room. If you have to choose only one of the palaces/castles I would say this one is the one that offers the most for your buck. The gardens are also great for a picnic and a bit of rest. There was a bit of a wait to get in due to entrance times but this also means that you won’t be crowded inside. If you have a tight schedule I would suggest booking in advance.

Absolutely beautiful! Much better than the more famous Amalienborg Palace museum, and well worth the trip. Keep an eye out for the trick chair that was used to make someone look as though they’d wet themselves and the communication holes from one end of the palace to the other!

A small and cute castle with an awesome garden and great outside design. I didn't have time to enter the inside, but did a good round walk that I enjoyed. Definitely worth the visit. If you're not going to enter, you can see it good enough from the gardens - the two aren't connected directly probably for security reasons.

Great place for a quiet walk around a park or for kids to experience a little piece of magic. The Crown Jewels are kept at this location in Denmark and the great staff and happy to be there. Bags are not allowed inside the castle but lockers are provided for you free of charge.

Absolutely breathtaking castle with an incredible amount of art and interesting architecture inside. When traveling to Copenhagen this is a MUST! They had lockers up front to keep your things so you don't need to lug it around with you, tickets were fair priced and the tour was appropriately self guided. This is a massive castle but the layout is straightforward and can be seen in under an hour if you want to check out other sites in the area (keeping in mind they start groups every 10-20 minutes so you may need to also wait outside to enter). The grounds are also very beautiful so the wait was negligible.

A beautiful little castle, literally adorned in art, from the floors to the ceiling. It has a majestic feel to it even though it’s not the largest castle. The treasury was interesting and worth a visit. Doesn’t take very long to see everything, but it’s nice not spending the whole day just in one place. It was quite dark when we were there and for some reason most lights weren’t switched on. Great if you like castles and this type of decor, but not a must see if you don’t.

Fabulous. The good fortune that it has not burnt down has preserved the palace intact through the centuries. The setting is spectacular and the residence has spectacular rooms. The baroque decoration is exuberant. My favourite room is the one containing the china ... It is unique.

Embarked on a regal journey at Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen. The majestic architecture, coupled with its fascinating history, casts a spell. One of the beautiful historical sites in Copenhegen. Booking for time slot online in advance is highly recommended. It's very well operated and very beautiful from floor to ceiling. There are two separate parts. First entrance to visit the Royal rooms in the castle, and then walking to Treasury which the Royal treasure is stored, including very gorgeous crowns. All staff are very friendly and helpful. So impressive!

This is an early 17th century castle that houses the Danish Crown Jewels. The ballroom/knight’s hall and glass cabinet on the top floor were particularly nice to see, as were the surrounding gardens, which are free. Well worth a visit, which I would recommend prioritizing if pressed for time.

It's a nice castle with the some interesting stuff to see. My biggest issue is that it's quite pricy for a small castle, especialy as the 1. floor was close when we visited. The best part of the museum definitely were the rolay jewels.

Worth the visit! Originally we were simply going to wander outside the grounds, but instead went inside - holy mackerel! So much history and beauty inside the castle. It’s cold inside (winter time), so make sure you dress appropriately. Take your time and really take in the history.

The top floor was really cool and worth the visit. Don’t kill yourself to see it but if you have extra time go for it. I did it all in about 30-45 min but could have taken longer if I read every info thing in each room. Got tickets when I got there just fine but had to wait about 20 minutes to enter so if you know you want to go get tickets before.

Regarded as one of the best castles in Scandinavia, this site offers a remarkable experience for visitors. The expansive park surrounding the castle is a popular spot, drawing many joggers and dog walkers. Beyond the lush greenery, the castle itself is a stunning architectural masterpiece, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking picturesque settings and memorable photo opportunities. The combination of historical significance and the vibrant atmosphere of the park makes this attraction a delightful and enriching experience for all.

Amazing experience, definitely a must visit in Copenhagen. The rooms are decorated with so much detail in renaissance style. You can also learn a bit about the history of Copenhagen, as well as take a nice walk through the gardens( on a warm day!)

Huge exhibition! I would plan at least 1 hour for the whole thing. It has three levels in the castle and a basement with the crowns. Personally i wouldn’t go with young children (under 10y) but that’s just my opinion. They would enjoy it a lot more when they are older. Just make sure to book the tickets online, they can be purchased there too

Built as a pleasure palace in the early 17th Century it is now a repository for an amazing array of valuable items plus of course the Crown Jewels in the basement vaults. It is still used today for Royal Baptisms and also as a place for lying in state when a Monarch dies. Possibly my favourite out of all the places I visited in Copenhagen

Great Renaissance era castle. The exterior is super impressive and the grounds are meticulously maintained. To enter the castle it costs 130 Danish Krone - but it is well worth it! The castle has heaps of preserved memorabilia from the era, and the rooms are super interesting - including the “Throne Room”. Highly recommended if you are in Copenhagen.

The castle itself was beautiful and the Crown jewels were very beautiful to see. But I was missing a lot of information during the walk through the castle, there were art pieces which told a lot of history which was not explained. The military field next to the castle was fun to see because there was a training going on the moment we were there

  • 3/5 Linda M. 4 months ago on Google
This old castle is interesting, and of course, the crown jewels in the basement are the big draw. Most of the artifacts are hard to see. Almost everything seemed dusty and neglected. Many of the items are priceless, so it seems sad to let them sit so clearly uncared for. I recommend going with a good guide or guidebook, to get a better sense of the history.

  • 5/5 Gopi C. 6 months ago on Google
A very good display of Kings/Queens belongings and utilities. One can find a lot of paintings in the castle in every room and also see how the painting skills have changed over decades. The numbered rooms and digital audio guide in the mobile were a good use of technology and easy to know the place. They also give a hard copy of the guide. The castle tour is on multiple floors. Every item, decor, and interior is so grand that each random picture will look very rich. After coming out, be sure to go inside another entrance and check out the treasury in the basement. Excellent collection of jewelry, guns, wine barrels, ivory carvings, etc. The single entry ticket will get you to enter both castle and treasury. After this, one can roam around in the huge gardens. We didn't find the entrance for this from the inside, so we just had to walk till the road and go in the garden from a different entrance. It is very pleasant and well maintained, so it's worth going in the garden.

  • 5/5 David R. 6 months ago on Google
Beautiful castle inside and out. The artistry is phenomenal. The rooms themselves are a work of art with further works of art added. The detail of the ornaments and jewellery is simply priceless. Well worth a look.

This is a great historical site to visit while you are visiting Copenhagen. It takes about an hour or so to walk completely through the castle, and if you don’t buy tickets in advance, expect to wait another 20 or 30 minutes in line. If you have a backpack or bag larger than a very small purse, they will require you to put it into a locker prior to entering the castle at no charge. You can buy a guided tour, but there is a free guide (including audio) via the free internet connection at the castle that you can use during your visit. There is also a beautiful park and a “king’s garden” to visit at the site.

  • 5/5 Pesh 5 months ago on Google
What a magnificent castle housing some impressive artifacts. It was busy so had to wait 50 mins for our slot, which was ok as it gave us the opportunity to explore the grounds and admire the castle from the outside. Once inside, you circulate around each floor. tip, use the guide leaflet available free at the ticket office and is available in multiple languages. You end your tour in the basemen, where the royal Crown Jewels are stored. Very impressive

Rosenborg is my favorite castle to visit in Copenhagen. Yes, the 2 other are probably worth seeing as well, yet this one has a special vibe to it. The history, rooms, storytelling, accessibility, the crown jewels, the King's Garden. Definitely a must see. FREE ENTRY WITH THE COPENHAGEN CARD, though you need to book your visit. Extremely easy.

  • 5/5 Minna B. 3 months ago on Google New
Well preserved small castle with many beautiful items and old furniture. Might get crowded during summer season because corridors and rooms are pretty small but during winter there were enough space and everyone was able to get close to each object.

  • 5/5 Suzie K. 5 months ago on Google
The Rosenborg castle grounds are so massive with a beautiful flower garden and a moat. If you have the Copenhagen City pass on your phone, your entry is FREE. Just remember to reserve your spot to visit on their website. If the moat didn't convince you to visit, then come visit just to see the amount of GOLD jewelry they have in the basement. It is so beautiful with intricate details on tiny items. There are the changing of the guards, too, as well as the beautiful details of the ceilings in the castle like those palaces in Italy and France.

  • 5/5 Richard L. 10 months ago on Google
During the height of the tourist season you will need to reserve a ticket in advance. Still even if you don't have a ticket to see the interior rooms, the gardens are a great place to sit and enjoy the surroundings. In a city where it is difficult to find a public restroom. There is one available on the Castle grounds.

  • 5/5 Kent W. 7 months ago on Google
The interior is decent, kind of boring. There's no audio guide. Just a website which explains the rooms but it's very boring. Buy your ticket online as sometimes they're sold out. Rosenborg Castle was originally built as a country summerhouse in 1606 and is an example of Christian IV's many architectural projects. It was built in the Dutch Renaissance style, typical of Danish buildings during this period, and has been expanded several times, finally evolving into its present state by the year 1624. The castle was used by Danish regents as a royal residence until around 1710. After the reign of Frederik IV, Rosenborg was used as a royal residence only twice, and both these times were during emergencies. The interior is a mixture of Renaissance and Baroque styles. The castle displays many symbols of the Danish monarchy including the crown jewels and the coronation chair.

What a fantastic historic site. It’s not that expensive for all that you see inside. Photos allowed. Incredible art and furnishings as well as textiles and jewellery from different centuries. Excellent docents- especially the long-haired gent in the Rose- provide fascinating historical context. All spoke English very well. There is an English guide you can pick up at the till that provides a good snapshot of each room (as room placards are only in Danish). Plus there’s an app that provides even more in-depth discussion of what you see.

I enjoyed wandering around this castle (maps in multiple languages are provided). It gave an interesting glimpse into the past. It was fun getting to see items from the past in the basement ranging from swords, guns and wine fonts and of course the beautiful Crown keels (and other remarkable pieces as well). There is a wonderful staff member at the entrance of the Crown jewels. He is a fantastic story teller and has an incredible wealth of knowledge. It's obvious he loves his job and he was one of the high points of the visit for me. Also, there is a great park next door to check out.

I really enjoyed visiting Rosenborg Castle; the rooms and furniture are exquisite, and in fantastic condition. The castle is easy to navigate by yourself, and the whole visit (including The Treasury) is easily done in under an hour. There are guided tours in English & Danish, but this needs to be booked at least two weeks in advance. Having said that, you can discover more about the things that interest you via their comprehensive website. Definitely worth visiting.

First, if you have the Copenhagen Card make a reservation. Second, go early, otherwise expect to wait. Lastly if you can, go without a bag, one of the choke points is getting a locket. But, once you are inside, you are in for a treat. From the unicorn horn (narwhal) throne to ornate paintings this palace has a compact but filled space. Then in the basement the royal jewels are on display with so many other great treasures (the gold army, and all that amber) make this a great must do visit while in Copenhagen.

Real interesting former royal palace and the reliquary of the Danish crown Jewels. The castle is like the average a historic British country house good but not wow. But lots of interesting things to see - the free guidebook is worth picking up for some hints. Don't forget to see the crown jewels - it isn't obvious as you need to enter another entrance into the cellar. Worthy stop if passing

What a beautiful place to visit. Even though I didn't go inside, I loved seeing the castle from the outside. The gardens are amazing, and the castle itself looks really impressive. It's a great spot to take pictures and enjoy the atmosphere of Copenhagen. Easily accessible by public transport.

The castle is not too big, but it is certainly a nice experience and a recommendation for a visit in Copenhagen. The museum inventory is very luxurious and you can see interesting and luxurious things that cannot be seen anywhere else. The castle is very well secured due to the very expensive inventory. The ticket price is a bit higher, but it is worth the visit.

Fairly nice place to visit. Though looking at the castle from the outside is sufficient for me. You may not even need to enter the castle if you do not wish to. The garden just next to this castle is also nice to relax and chill in. Bring some picnic food along and you'll be able to stay for about an hour at least

Visited with Copenhagen card lovely castle with gardens. Interior is beautiful and you can self tour the location with audio guide. You have to buy the ticket and get the time slot even if you have the Copenhagen card.

A beautiful castle to visit inside and the gardens outside. Its self guided tour from the application which you can scan at the castle entrace provides you good information about its history and the objects inside.

An amazing place to visit, Rosenberg castle. A must see and don't miss the Treasury! It is absolutely an amazing display. Leave a couple hours and you will be satisfied with the visit.

The castle tour is very interesting with lots of art and furnishings to see. The castle does not have good ventilation so go when it's cooler outside. We were there on a very warm day. The surrounding gardens are gorgeous to see.

Beautiful castle with a rose garden, a moat and a large park. It’s very peaceful and a nice place to take a break. There is a small play area for children in the park and you will find lots of families there. The interiors are absolutely beautiful. The castle gift shop is very nice and lots of nice articles.

Beautiful park in the middle of the city. Nice place for a walk. Picnic. There is also a children's playground. The castle is smaller, although it does not look out of the photos. Well worth a visit. Free admission to the park (we were not inside the castle)
