It was a interesting palace. You just walked in to a kind of court and around you there are different buildings. Apparently at every building around lives a part of the royal family and there are underground tunnels so they can visit eachother. We were there when there were guards walking around so that was nice to see. It’s something nice to have visited if you are in the area.

What a beautiful place to visit. The change of guard and the official band put an excellent performance for the audience. Quality, pride, tradition, and military values all meet at noon at the main palace square. It's worth the visit. This is my 4th time, and I can't wait to go see it again.

Not the grandest palace but very proportionate and balanced. Sheer good taste. Even the ceremonial change of the guard looks more human than in similar venues. Most if not all the soldiers were female on the time of my visit.

Beautiful palaces with very interesting history. Witnessed the changing of the guard and another parade. Love being able to get so close.

I recently visited Amalienborg Palace and was in awe of its grandeur and historical significance. The palace complex is truly a sight to behold, with its beautiful architecture and regal presence. The palace is the official residence of the Danish royal family and offers a glimpse into their rich heritage. The changing of the guard ceremony, which takes place in the courtyard, was a memorable experience. The guards' precision and ceremonial traditions were captivating to witness. While I didn't have the opportunity to explore the palace interiors, the exterior alone is impressive enough to leave a lasting impression. The perfectly symmetrical layout and the stunning statue of King Frederik V at the center add to the overall charm of the place. The surrounding area offers picturesque views of the waterfront and is perfect for a leisurely stroll. It's a great spot for taking photographs and immersing oneself in the city's history and culture. I recommend visiting Amalienborg Palace to anyone interested in Danish royalty and architectural beauty. It's a cultural gem that showcases the grandeur of the past and provides a unique glimpse into the lives of the royal family. Don't miss this iconic landmark when you're in Copenhagen!"

If you happen to visit at noon, you can experience the changing of the guards. They March everyday from their barracks near Rosenborg Castle through the streets of Copenhagen and end up at this location. While only a small portion of the palace is open to the public, it features a well organized exhibition that offers a fair overview of royal life in the recent past and palace interiors. The first floor has mostly reproduced studies of the various monarchs while the upper floor is meant to demonstrate the contemporary interiors of the palace...

Residence od the Danish Royal Family. Worth to visit, especially the queen's jewellery gallery. Personally I am imoressed how Queen Margrett and rest of the Royal Family are opened to the ordinary people - much more than British Royal Family. Sunday guard change is also worth to See.

Amalienborg is the home of the Danish royal family, and is located in Copenhagen, Denmark. It consists of four identical classical palace façades with rococo interiors around an octagonal courtyard in the centre of the square is a monumental equestrian statue of Amalienborg's founder, King Frederick V. Amalienborg was originally built for four noble families; however, when Christiansborg Palace burned on 26 February 1794, the royal family bought the palaces and moved in. Over the years various monarchs and their families have resided in the four different palaces.

Ceremonial guard change gathers a lot of viewers. The museum consists of a few lavishly decorated rooms full of royal family memorabilia.

A nice square to visit with royal guards, beautiful buildings with great architecture around it, a nice statue in the center. We were able to see the change in shift of the guards and their parade with all the soldiers and the flag. Definitely a great place to visit if you come here to Copenhagen even if it is just for a day.

Decent place to visit if you have the city pass, but I wouldn’t recommend spending the money for a stand-alone ticket as the items aren’t anything too special (other than the Faberge room which is pretty small). They have free lockers to store your items as you walk around and bathrooms available on the ground floor.

We visited the Amalienborg Palace after we saw it for the first time from our canal boat tour. We watched the changing of the guard. And then visited the museum. So much history inside. See the RetiredAndTravelling blog for all the details.

Very interesting place. You need to buy tickets and there is a locked place to put your backpack securely. There is also a lovely shop to buy souvenirs. I loved the section on the crown jewels and everything is written also in English.

Royal place that functions nowadays. Daily at 12 pm there is public guard exchange that worth to see. Guard's outfit depends on the presence of Queen inside and if there are visitors - based on their status. Next to the main Palace there is an exhibition of royal jewelries, including Faberge Egg - real masterpiece. Tip: if you come earlier, you can find good spot to watch easier.

Amalienborg was a fun place to visit. We enjoyed reading about the more recent royals and going through the rooms. I gave this a 4 just because I feel the other palaces in Denmark have much more history and more rooms to go through as well as beautiful grounds. If you do have time it's definitely worth a visit and if you plan it correctly you can also see the changing of the guards at noon. You will want to purchase your tickets before hand as only a certain amount if visitors are allowed in at a time. It's currently only open on Saturdays and Sundays.

Beautiful classic building complex with equestrian statue of King Frederik V right in the center. We can also see the iconic Frederiks Kirke (Frederik’s Church) from there as it’s within walking distance. Like the others said, the changing of the guard ceremony is interesting to watch, it can be a bit crowded during holidays or in the weekends, but weekdays are usually less crowded. And summer would be a better time to visit than during the Denmark’s windy winter. Do come around 11.30-11.50 and pick a spot to watch. If you’re not tall like me 🤭 (170 cm or less), try to stand in the front row as you’ll be struggle to get a clear view.

Didn’t actually have time to go inside as there is just so much to see and do in Copenhagen. I did however manage to catch an afternoon Changing of the Guard, which was impressive. Note main Change of the Guard is at Midday so plan accordingly.

Despite my general disinterest in royalty and jewelry, I still found the museum located here surprisingly fascinating. Seeing just how interwoven the Royal Families of Europe are and getting a sense of the scope of activities they are required to attend was a great use of an afternoon and well worth the admission.

The tickets for the exhibition inside are quite pricy,so maybe that's why we had high expectations, but in reality there's only two floors with jewellery and interior of the rooms. But of course all the crowns and necklaces are beautiful and I think those who are very interested in royals will be satisfied, especially due to the fact that the Danish audio guide is sounded by The Queen herself.

Loved visited Amalienborg Palace! Especially seeing the rooms that were from the other palace premises that had been moved here as they were decades ago. Beautiful collections of art and antiques pieces. Phenomenal royal history too and I was grateful for the English information and descriptions ☺️

If you have to choose between Rosenborg and Amalienborg, the better choice is for sure Rosenborg! But also here I can recommend to buy your tickets only, even if you do this only shortly before your visit. Usually there are long queues and there is a maximum number of people allowed to enter every 10 minutes. If you buy your ticket online for your preferred timeslot, you can skip the queue + you can enter without additional waiting time.

Really nice area and a stunning castle. You have to see the changing of the guards. It’s at 12 every day and get packed but u can get a good view. Flags mean the family is home which we learned that today. Explore the area. You will enjoy it.

I liked walking around the palace grounds and the museum section of the palace open for viewing. The history of the current monarchy is pretty cool and the presentation of previous monarchs offices are a great way to show each persons personality. I was there for 12 for the changing of the guards but I didn’t really get it. It didn’t seem to be that big of a deal so probably OK not to plan your whole day around it. I recommend a walk around this area to marvel at the other building’s architecture around these palaces; it’s a beautiful area.

Was there for changing of the guards. Worth hoing to see it. I recommend as soon as they are finished in the center, to go over to one of the guards' stations so you can be up close when change out the guard there. Beautiful architecture.

I ended up staying in Copenhagen for a night before travelling onwards. Decided to walk to Amalienborg and its always a pleasure visiting. Such an impressive setting and something calming about the way the guards 💂‍♂️ walk around like clockwork. Great setting to with the water next door and the famous Nyhavn only a short walk away

The Amalienborg Palace is currently under construction, but you can still visit. If you have the Copenhagen City pass on your phone, your entry is FREE. Just remember to reserve your spot to visit on their website. This palace reminded me of the other European Palaces, like they wanted the same kind of vibe. It's similar but not the same on a much smaller scale. They also have guards. I think the Danish Queen actually lives on this property. There was a large photograph of her, and I recall seeing her highness on Netflix.

The place is indeed beautiful and was a good experience to witness all the cultural and royal ceremonies. It was explained to me as change of guard ceremony and it was indeed beautiful. Going to attach few snippets of marching as well.

The symmetry of the palaces, the changing of the guard, and the historical significance make it a captivating place to visit. It's a must-see for those interested in Danish monarchy and architectural splendor. With that being said, it kinda looks unimpressive with all the picturesque places around.

I visited just a small part of Amalienborg because the Royal Family was there. What I saw was nice, but in order to make a real picture of it, must come back. Don't miss the guard change.

Its one of the highlights in Copenhagen. Beautiful presented. It is a living castle and guards directions must be followed. I also like the setting near the water and the fact that it is open to the public as much as possible.

Amalienburg is a captivating spot! The historical charm and intricate details are impressive. A highlight was witnessing the spectacular guard ceremony – a truly amazing spectacle that added an extra layer of fascination to the visit. Also it’s located close to Marmokirken and you really have a panoramic view of the Castle and Marmokirken.

There’s palaces that belong to different kings in Denmark history here. And in the middle there’s a Frederik V statue. Definitely a visit point when you are in Copenhagen. But to be honest I don’t find it really spectacular. There are always tourist groups around but the place is quite big so you don’t really feel overwhelmed by the crowd

Impressive. The main palace is flanked by 4 smaller palaces where the prince and princesses live, patrolled by an honor guard. While we were there, someone drove into the courtyard so all the guards came to attention immediately until the car had been driven into the palace and the door had been shut. Not sure who drove but it was a man.

This huge palace is made up of four identical classical palace façades with rococo interiors around an octagonal courtyard. When I was there one of the four was surrounded by crowds waiting for the Changing of the Guard - of no interest to me as I detest the concept of royalty, but each to their own. Marmorkirken metro.

Cool square of castles. Get here at 12 o'clock noon to see the changing of the guard. But make sure the flags are up (The queen is home then) to see the best version. Otherwise you'll just see the worlds longest staring contest.

The home of Denmark’s King and Queen. Unfortunately one of them was in residence and as such there were no tours available. Still a beautiful place to visit and take in the wonderful architecture.

Beautiful Palace. In a great location, watching the very professional royal guards is worth the visit alone but the architecture is fantastic

  • 3/5 Vanda S. 1 year ago on Google
This palace has the same entrance fee as the Rosenborg, but they cannot be compared. It is about the Danish royal family's certain periods including reproduction of their living rooms. If you are not Danish, I guess it is not so interesting. The information tables are too detailed sometimes, therefore boring too. If you have only 1 day, I rather recommend the Rosenborg.

  • 5/5 Julien D. 2 years ago on Google
A classic Copenhagen landmark.the royals are going in an out of their homes quite often so you might see them. Change of the guard is interesting but avoid going there during the weekend the place is packed and you won't see much. Weekdays is much better

  • 3/5 Jan B. 2 years ago on Google
Nice place worthy visiting. We did not go inside but came to watch royal guards changing. I expected something spectacular like they do in Stockholm, but it was quite lengthy process of troops marching across the square. This was probably the only disappointment I had in Copenhagen.

What a way to end the Grand Tour of Copenhagen with the magnificent showstopper, Grand Amalienborg! BTW, in 2015, this was the first royal palace that I had ever seen in my life. Now, I'm back, and today, Queen Margrethe is the oldest reigning monarch in Europe! It's a lovely day to be back in Copenhagen! Four houses fit for HRH! Absolutely, stunning! 🇩🇰❤️😁🌍

Really lovely palace, we arrived just in time for the changing of the guard which is neat. They do have tours but it was nice enough just to wander around. Also a quick and nice enough walk from the little mermaid statue.

  • 5/5 Missy i. 9 months ago on Google
Great architecture, interesting displays. Neat to see where formal events were held, and living quarters of previous royals. Saw the changing of the guards at noon too! This was a nice and relaxed visit!

The museum area to visit was very small, not really worthy. From my view not a must place to visit. The area outside is beautiful and nice to visit. The guard change is not that spectacular, actually a little bit boring. During the change the place is filled with visitors.
