The zoo is set up to be able to view every animal up close. Some parts may be difficult to navigate (especially now, during renovations) so it is best to get and pay close attention to the map provided at the entrance. It was a very fun experience and would highly recommend visiting the place if you're in the area.

A giraffe there named Marius was raised as a baby in the zoo. He was loved by the public. Yet, when he became an adult, he was killed. The zoo's staff shot him. They didn't think he would be useful. They had other male giraffes they could breed instead of Marius.

Great zoo. Fairly cheap especially compared to the cost in England. We went in January and it wasn't too busy so it was easy to get around to see everything we wanted. Animals seem to be well looked after. The pandas were worth the entrance fee alone!

Lincoln Park Zoo was fantastic at social distancing, clean & sanitized bathrooms, crowd control. Lots of animals in the outside enclosures for viewing. Vending machines only take cash though. There were outdoor food vendors sporadically placed. Plenty of benches, tables, outdoor areas for snacks & breaks. It was easy to reserve the free tickets on event brite.

It’s the best place I have been to in Copenhagen!!! I am not a super fan for museum, but I really enjoy watching animal. There are quite a lot of animals and they have relatively good living conditions compared to zoos in China, though you can see many of them are not so active, probably bored. I wish there are better measures to keep them active and cheer them up.

A really beautiful zoo that you definitely do not miss when visiting Copenhagen. We spent almost the whole day here and enjoyed it to the maximum. Animals have spacious pavilions/ expositions. You can see them from many angles. You can also choose from many options for food, even healthier versions. A small recommendation - do not buy toys in souvenir shops, around the zoo Park there are special machines with animals according to the pavilion. It costs a few crowns and do not worry, it is guaranteed, you will always pull out a toy. We have several of them and they are really beautiful and we even had so much fun with the machines and picking the right animal. Not necessary to buy tickets ahead but I highly recommend to come in the morning ;)

Hands down one of the best zoos we've been to overseas. Well maintained, lovely grounds and enclosures. Beautiful unobstructed views of the animals and a great variety of species. The staff were helpful, professional, and courteous. Plan your visit as it's small and I'm sure very crowded in the high season. Excellent place to visit for those of all ages and near a wonderful, spacious large park in Copenhagen.

Amazing zoo, one of the best I’ve been to and go to one in every city I’m in if they have one! Very nicely laid out, animals appear very well looked after, it’s set up so we can get a good view of them without disturbing them, never felt so close to the animals. Very good range of animals, helpful staff, good gift shop. Would return.

nice zoo with lots of animals to watch. very quiet when we went and seemed like a slow day at the zoo - lots of sleepy animals. we are Australian but this was the first time we had seen Tasmanian Devils. the keeper told us about how they came to be at the zoo - they were a gift from the Queen of Denmark, who is from Aus. seeing a section dedicated to Australian animals was nice, the cockatoos being moody reminded us of home. watching the mongoose get fed was a highlight. the farm animals were also fun - getting to pat goats is always a good time! some of the animals looked like they could have done with more space and more enrichment. however, they all looked well cared for.

Our family had a nice time at Copenhagen Zoo! The polar bear, muskox, and Giant Panda exhibits were a big hit with my kid – the excitement on her face was priceless. At just 239 DKK per person, the entry fee is a steal for such a memorable family experience. The zoo's commitment to education made it not only fun but also enriching for our little one. Highly recommend for a family day out filled with joy and learning!

Wow. This zoo is the best I’ve been to in the world. The enclosures are so elaborate and give you such a close feel to the animals. Truly incredible how impressive it is. The polar bear enclosure was my favorite and worth a visit for sure

Here are a few great things about the Copenhagen zoo: 1. Great bicycle parking out front. 2. There are two halves to the zoo that re both included in the same ticket price (they are separated by a tunnel that goes under the road). 3. There are always English signs in addition to Danish describing the animals. 4. There are some very creative exhibits rather than just boring, cement enclosures. 5. The staff are very friendly and speak great English.

I visit here every time I’m in Copenhagen and it never fails to be a great visit. I absolutely love this zoo and if I ever was lucky enough to live nearby, I would definitely have an annual pass. I love that you can see polar bears and giant pandas in the same zoo. Most of the enclosures have no fences (better for the animals) and they have a huge variety of big and small animals.

Amazing! So many different animals - the kids loved it. Also a good variety of food stands and coffee shops. If you want to climb up to the zoo tower it costs a bit extra. I recommend taking the map from the ticket booth to make sure you don't miss anything. They also had a timetable for all the feedings etc. 5/5

Wow! This was fantastic! From polar bears to parrots, this was definitely the best zoo I've ever been in! Seeing all those bats eating watermelons was so cute! I was absolutely amazed to see all the animals-which half of them I didn't even know existed! 5 stars! Definitely recommendin this wonderful zoo!

This zoo is the best zoo I've been to by far. Beautiful zoo and clean all around areas well kept. Great kind staff. Good view of the animals, and they have such good big enclosures and well thought out on the planning side. Highly recommend going here. You won't regret it.

And excellent zoo. You can get very close to the animals and they have excellent observation areas both above and below some animal areas. The animals appear to be treated very well and their areas are well decorated. The zoo extends under the road so make sure you visit both sides. Great for children but fun for adults too. Free entry is available with the Copenhagen Card.

The zoo was founded in 1868, when the Lincoln Park Commissioners were given a gift of two pairs[6] of swans by Central Park's Board of Commissioners in New York City.[7] Other animals were soon donated to the park, including, a puma, two elk, three wolves, four eagles, and eight peacock.[8] In 1874, a bear cub from the Philadelphia Zoo was the first animal purchased by the zoo. The bear became quite adept at escaping from its home and could frequently be found roaming Lincoln Park at night.[9] In 1884, reportedly the first American bison born in captivity was born at the Lincoln Park Zoo.[10] At this time, the species had almost been hunted to extinction in the wild—in 1896, the United States government purchased one bull and seven cows from the Zoo's bison herd to send to Yellowstone National Park to assist in the species' revival.[8] From 1888 to 1919 the director of the Lincoln Park Zoo was the flamboyant Cy DeVry, who organized the collection, built many new structures, and obtained the zoo's first elephant and monkeys. A new Lion House opened in 1912. It was later renovated and reopened in 1990. The Primate House opened in 1927, and was known for housing a popular gorilla named Bushman (1931–1951), one of the only gorillas in a U. S. zoo at the time.[11][12] The zoo's great apes were moved to the Lester E. Fisher Great Ape House in 1976, named for the zoo's outgoing director, and the original Primate House was later renovated and reopened in 1992 as the Helen Brach Primate House, featuring more naturalistic settings. Marlin Perkins, who gained fame as the host of the television program Zoo Parade and later, Wild Kingdom, was director of the zoo from 1944 until 1962. He created and recruited a citizens group to support the Zoo's mission, the Lincoln Park Zoological Society. The facility underwent a dramatic transformation in the 1970s and 1980s, with the additions of many new, naturalistic exhibits. In 1995, the Zoological Society assumed management of the zoo from the Chicago Park District, which remains the owner.[11] Zoo administration is currently housed in the nearby building previously used by the Chicago Academy of Sciences, which moved to a new facility in 1999. The Kovler Sea Lion Pool opened the same year after an extensive renovation, and is now home to the zoo's harbor seals.[13] Regenstein African Journey, a renovation of the zoo's former Large Mammal House, opened in 2003, turning the zoo's largest building from concrete showcases for a few large mammals into a series of naturalistic settings that tell the story of the wildlife of the African continent, welcoming the return of the zoo's African elephants and giraffes as well as new additions such as the aardvark, ostrich, and African wild dog.[14] Two years later, the zoo renovated its Great Ape House, opening the Regenstein Center for African Apes, which focused on the zoo's troops of common chimpanzees and western lowland gorillas, putting a special emphasis on researching the behaviors of both species and creating new, naturalistic habitats.[15] In 2003, the book The Ark in the Park: The Story of Lincoln Park Zoo was also published by the University of Illinois Press. The book was written by Mark Rosenthal, Carol Tauber, and Edward Uhlir.[16][17] In 2010, Lincoln Park Zoo transformed the adjacent South Pond to create the Nature Boardwalk, an ecological habitat designed by Studio Gang Architects that features native wetlands plants and wildlife.[18] In December 2011, the Kovler Penguin-Seabird House, which had previously been home to rockhopper, king penguins, common murres and puffins closed down after thirty years at the zoo due to worries about the deteriorating condition of the building, prompting outcry from some Chicago residents.[19] It was soon announced it would be replaced with a newly renovated West Gate, featuring a children's train and an all-new exhibit, Regenstein Macaque Forest, featuring Japanese macaques, or "snow monkeys", in a state-of-the-art exhibit with a hot spring, set to open in fall 2014.[20] It was announced in March

It was such a heartbreaking experience going there. The cages are so small and worn. The polar bear was just walking back and forth looking really distressed. It felt so bad seeing that. In general I’m not for animals being captured and held outside of their natural habitat, but seeing this, made it even more upsetting. Instead of getting new animals (and getting rid of others), use your resources to better the conditions for the animals that are already in your care. Aalborg Zoo is a great example of this, which made the experience going there, so much better than going here.

The zoo is very well kept. It deserves the 6th star as well. It is centrally loacated and has multiple attractions. Yet I am giving it 4 stars. The reason is, the enclosures of wild cats are very small. I understand that being centrally located, the zoo has dearth of space, but it is sad to see the animals being kept in such small spaces. Wish the management does something and moves to a place where all the animals can have the best and biggest possible enclosures.

Fantastic zoo, you can spend a whole day there with the kids and enjoy much. A lot of food spots and even if it rains there is a room where children can go creative and handcraft some animals from paper. Highly recommended 👌

So much fun! loved the animals there were so many baby animals ! You’re able to get really close to the animals and it was a fun time - we went as friendsgroup, but there were also family’s, couples and so on it’s fun for everyone! Make sure to go to the entrance and talk to the people there if you have the Copenhagen card you don’t have to wait in the two queues before.

It's one of the nicer zoos in my experience. Plenty to see and for kids especially recommended. I can't overlook that still big cats and polar bears show repetitive patterns despite all the staff trying to keep them entertained. Prices were appropriate in my opinion and there's a whole bunch of food stalls to choose from, however, when we visited they were nearly all closed and the water parts seem to be plagued by algae. I can recommend the newer attractions like the savanna section and the panda enclosure as well as the artic circle parts. Some other enclosures need renovation and I would have like more space for some animals but that's always the part with zoos. In general they made a good effort getting you close up to the animal such that you almost don't feel the fences, compare some of the pictures. Currently they also have animatronics of dinosaurs.

Hands down the best zoo I have visited in terms of aesthetics. It really is beautiful with wonderfully built enclosures. The zoo is very easy to get lost in and questioning if you have been in certain areas. the viewing point are by far the best I've seen at any zoo! The information boards are great and well depicted. Do not miss when travelling to Copenhagen. My favourite enclosure was the Panda's, closely followed by the polar bears.

This Zoo is amazing, for a metropolitan Zoo with space constraints, it feels huge and is designed in such a clever way. Everything feels clean and the park seems cared about, there are great food options around the park and the play area is great for kids. *The important part* I'm not an expert but the animals seem well looked after and have good habitats, unlike some other Zoo's I have been too. There wasn't any animals or enclosures where I felt it wasn't suitable. The zoo also has a bus stop right outside which is useful as a tourist to the city.

We enjoyed a fantastic day at the zoo a few days ago. It was snowy and freezing, but the animals were very active and for most enclosures, you could get super close to them with a perfect view. We also got chips from one of the cafes and they were delicious. The staff had perfect English and were really helpful about my partner's nut allergy. Would HIGHLY recommend. It was the highlight of our whole trip to Copenhagen for sure.

No chance to get to Christmas Lights neither at Lincoln Zoo nor at Botanic Garden in time of COVID 19. But just to be there, take a walk around, chat with a strangers, patting the dogs & exchange couple wards with their owners, all of this gave a windows to the normal life, to the community, to feel yourself as a part of this wonderful town & it's community.

First time visiting and was kind of disappointed. All the buildings were closed (reptile, primate, etc.) and there was a lot of construction. Because of this you weren’t able to see very many animals. I thought the arrows painted along the ground and various fences showing the correct walking paths were wonderful to keep people distanced but also made for extra walking and it was harder to get to/find exhibits. I appreciate their efforts during COVID. Good for a visit if your have an extra hour and are searching for something FREE to do.

As always, Zoo Lights this year were amazing, even if a ticket was mandatory for entry. Every ticket had a half hour entry period for about 250 people in total to ensure not too many people were in the park at one time.

The zoo was very clean and easy to walk through with all the arrows on the ground, what really bothered us and all of the people around us, was the fact that the rhinoceros was clearly under stress and was walking frantically back and forth trying to go through a closed door, the staff needs to pay more attention to the animals and their wants and needs, if the rhino wanted to go inside he should have been allowed to go and not be forced to stay outside so that we can see him. On our way out of the zoo we overheard a group of people complaining about the same thing to the man guarding the exit, it was very sad and it really ruined our day

Enjoyed my time at the zoo, even though I had to wear my mask. It also sucked that we couldn't go into the buildings but safety first! Also, they are rebuilding the lion house, which is awesome! Can't wait to see it when it's done!!!

Went to the zoo to see the Christmas lights and they were beautiful! Didn’t see any animals though! There was a beautiful area to sit on the top floor at one of the building full of lights above the seating area, but they did have a $3 entrance charge which was kind of inconvenient! The parking for 31 minutes to 2 hours was $20. Overall it was an ok experience, too many fees here and there, and not much to do besides walking around to see the lights.

This is a place that I wish we had more time to explore! It's a aquarium, planetarium, and science museum all in one place. I heard the Steinhart Aquarium is better than the Aquarium of the Bay, so we decided to go here our last day in San Francisco. Pro tip: You can get a discount if you took public transit. Also you will want to get tickets (they're free) for any Planetarium shows you want to see when you first arrive, as they can run out. I think you could easily explore this place from the time they open until close! They have Night hours on Thursday nights, but you'll want to buy those tickets in advance. One of my favorite things was the Rainforest Exhibit with butterflies flying all around you.

Zoo Lights on NYE!! I guess you can't expect much when you pay $20 for a family of four but I'd rather pay more and get more then to visit this again. It could've been more lights and maybe a light show to the beat of music. The kids were bored and ready to leave before it was over. For NYE to make it an actual event maybe they can add fireworks or fill in the much empty space with more lights.

Great zoo. Many animals that you can see really close. Information is clear and really well explained. It is really clean, you have many options to eat and to buy things. In general a great experience for the whole family and one of the best zoo I have seen. A must see in Copenhagen. We had a great time

  • 4/5 Marc L. 3 years ago on Google
A lot of animals to look at, and arranged after where in the world you encounter them. Both the Panda, Giraffe and Elephants have a great area to play in, and it is easy to spot almost all creatures. We were also lucky to spot several lion cubs playing next to their mother as well.

  • 5/5 猫一坨 4 years ago on Google
Since Sweden doesn't have any pandas, we have to drive all the way to Copenhagen to see the lovely pandas. They are intensively adorable !!!!!! The zoo is arranged in a very nice way so we can see lots of animals and birds. The tropical area is amazing. Tropical birds and butterfly flies around you so you feel like in real jungle. We have also seen the great polar bears and elephants. They are massive but cute. Zebras and animal from Africa is on the other side, which is also well arranged. Lions and wolves were asleep when we visited but the tigers did go out and sit among the grass. Anyway I think this is a very nice zoo and the most important and best thing is that it doesn't have animal show/performance.

Great zoo, one of the nicest I've visited. One of the polar bear enclosures is incredibly small though and they had two in there which wasn't great to see. It seemed cramped last year with only one in it, I assume they moved the mother and baby in there from last year and allowed the new baby into the larger enclosure.

This is properly the nicest zoo I ever have been in. The suroundings for the animals are good and everything seems very new. It is not cheap to get in but quality costs. Better to pay a bit more and give the animals a better life. Everything worked perfect and all in all it was easy to spend a whole day there. We saw the seals and the lions get their food and it was quite a show. Panda is absolute winner and most popular animal in the zoo.

Thumbs up for keeping the zoo clean and the animals fed and safe! ☺️

This is perhaps one of the most impressive zoological gardens we have seen. The number of animals and more importantly the comfort most seem to be given is very significant. Small ecosystems are created to offer animals varied conditions. The way to access the areas is also very authentic. There is a kids playground where they can play with goats or simply enjoy the exercise.

I don't appreciate to see caged animals but this Zoo really cared about their animals, only thing that chocked me was the Leopard cage and the Lions cage....so small...it was notorious to see the Leopard going round and around with stress...maybe a thing to think about in the future, improve this structures, and that's why i only give 4 stars. The Panda facility is just amazing, you have to go see the Yin Yang structure with two Pandas inside. Although it worth a visit.

  • 3/5 H S. 2 years ago on Google
The animals were wonderful of course, but the zoo was extremely maze-like. We would wander down a path and end up in a circle without a clue of how we'd arrived. We'd follow signs for an animal, and never find the enclosure. We only ended up doing one half because we'd already decided we were hungry and already over the experience.

Beautiful zoo to walk, there are o lot of space, there are no cages, so you can make a good photos without "rails", few places to eat, because You will need it to get energy to see everything in Zoo - it took 4 hours of not so lazy walking.

Pretty good zoo. It's quite small, but decent entertainment for 2-3 hours. The enclosures seem small on first glance, but that's mainly because the animals have quite a bit of space to retreat from people. I do enjoy that you get to enter some of the enclosures, like the kangaroo pen, though it feels a bit weird ;)

Great zoo, it’s nice to know they have breeding and research programs to help bring back endangered species. During winter there’s not a lot o people, had no line to get in, but a lot of the animals go inside to hide from the cold. It’s definitely worth the visit anyway. I’d also recommend checking the zoo’s program so you can see some of the animals getting fed and get some extra info on them.

Best part of the zoo was the panda bears. This is the first time that I've seen a live panda and it was almost exactly what I was expecting. They were active, one was just sitting and eating his bamboo with the leftovers all over his legs. Definitely glad we made the trip here!

  • 5/5 Amanda O. 10 months ago on Google
Like how they design the whole place, makes you feel close to the animals. Love the giraffe the most. Didn’t manage to see panda but happy enough. A lot of happy laughters of family and children, a lovely place. With the Copenhagen Card, you can straight away go to gate 1, do not need to queue and ticketing counter.

Really fun place to visit. The animals have good habitats (even though a little small). In some enclosures the animals roam free amongst visitors (watch where you step in the nighttime animals' enclosure - the rat kangaroo is really friendly and might be right next to your foot!) You can also pet some goats, which is always fun. We went on a weekday and the place was not that full. It was nice to just enjoy the animals without a crowd. We were there for 4 hours and didn't even visit all the animals, so I'd recommend making it a whole day trip if you want to see everything.

  • 5/5 Jason K. 9 months ago on Google
Amazing zoo, one of the best I've been to. Unlike zoos I've been to in the US, they avoid having walls as much as possible. The baboon section is basically just open, you can walk on a path in the middle of the kangaroo exhibit, they have a goat petting zoo, the elephants are really cool. All the animals seemed to have plenty of space and were well taken care of. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and there was no crowd too, which was nice I'd definitely recommend this place if you like zoos, and maybe even if you don't.

  • 3/5 Andrew C. 8 months ago on Google
The kids really enjoyed the visit, some of the animals appear to be living in sub standard accommodation and was sad to see. The elephant area was just dirt and sand. I’m no expert so maybe this is what they’re used to but it didn’t seem amazing.

  • 5/5 Will P. 10 months ago on Google
Copenhagen Zoo is one of the oldest zoo but it's still worth a visit. Compact but adequate, a worthwhile visit with the family especially with kids. Lots to see and do and a whole area dedicated to children where they can get up close to animals. Highly recommended.

  • 5/5 Thomas P. 8 months ago on Google
Always a great day in the zoo. Bring small kids just at opening time, the zoo is usually a bit empty at that time, so you can enjoy it with the small ones. Plenty of places to buy food or ear your own. Check the schedule for feeding times, this is always fun to see. And the guides give really good information about the animals when the animals are eating.

  • 4/5 Katie H. 8 months ago on Google
Copenhagen Zoo is worth a visit particularly for families with children, a key highlight is the Artic Circle exhibition. Adult only groups may prefer to give it a miss, if choosing between the zoo and other city attractions. Without young children, the zoo probably takes a maximum of 2 hours for a group of adults to get around, with children a visit could be a half day activity. Lots of restaurants within the zoo and places to buy food. Alternatively, pleased to see lots of picnic areas for families to bring their own packed lunches. In terms of animal welfare, I'd say some enclosures are dated and could be bigger - unfortunately this is a common occurrence within older city zoos. However, the enclosures appeared clean and animals appeared well fed and in good condition. Clear attempts to provide animals with enrichment inside the enclosures. Zoo restrooms and visitor areas are clean and well maintained. Gift shops are fairly small and limited - mostly cuddly and plastic toys for children rather than a well thought out range of merchandise compared to other zoos. Lockers are available, 10DKK coin required, non-refundable.

A great place for something fun to do on the weekend! It does get quiet packed though. The only negative thing about the zoo is that in parts, the zoo looks a bit old and outdated in some areas and some things could use a fresh coat of paint. The price is kind of a lot but I think it’s worth it for how much is there.

one of the best zoo i visited. the way they designed the zoo is really creative! even when they animal are in water or in their cave, you’ll still be able to go around the enclosure and see them. you won’t be leaving the zoo feeling like you haven’t seen enough of them! we were lucky enough to meet a baby giraffe that was just born an hour earlier. it is the most beautiful and precious experience! i also love how kids friendly the zoo is!

  • 5/5 Kirsty B. 7 months ago on Google
A fantastic and large zoo with a large variety of animals, places to eat, shops and playground for the kids. The zoo is beautifully decorated and well thought our with viewing areas both above and beneath the enclosures so you can see then where ever they are. Habitats look a good size for the animals and all seemed happy enough. Only thing I didn't like was the map, it was very confusing. We followed it but it didn't take us to where we wanted to go and where it said on the map so missed a couple of animals because we just couldn't find them. Brilliant zoo and definitely worth a visit. Can easily spend all day there.

Probably one of, if not the best Zoo's I've been to, not as big as Berlin but the attractions and layout is amazing, such a fantastic variance of animals and birds as well (the bird walkthrough is great, the kookaburras were a favourite). There is two halves separated by the road outside, however they are connected by a well lite, clean and presented underground tunnel, on the other side there is a large 'Serengeti' style area with a brilliant mix of grassland animals living together. Also I got some calimari there not expecting much, it was amazing!

They've got all sorts of new critters there – from polar bears to pandas, penguins, seals, and a bunch of others I can't even remember. The cool part was that the zoo had a Halloween thing going on. I mean, who doesn't love a good Halloween theme, right? It added a fun and spooky vibe to the whole visit. And to top it all off, the weather was on point when I went. It was one of those perfect days when you're just happy to be outside. If you're ever in Copenhagen and looking for a great time, I'd totally recommend checking out Copenhagen Zoo. It's a hoot for everyone, and the animals are just the tip of the iceberg. Cheers! Abdul Raheem

I had the most amazing day at the zoo today. All the staff were wonderfully friendly. The animals were amazing to see. Lovely atmosphere and park. I ate in the panda restaurant and the server was brilliant.

I wish I had the opportunity to visit the zoo during the summer. It seems like after October, or some of the exhibit and interactions with the animals shut down. But it did not disappoint in anyway. Even on a slightly rainy day with an umbrella I was able to see most of the animals and covered the majority of the zoo in under three hours. Favorite exhibit included the elephant and the giraffes. I also enjoyed the seals, otters, and the lions. The penguins were also super cute. And the interaction with Kanagroos is cool.

Great zoo! It's easy to navigate, and they have all the most popular animals like elephants and pandas. There are great food options too. The playground was great to get some extra energy out of the kids.

Awesome experience. The animals seem to be treated very well, their spaces are clean and well organized. You have cafés and toilets everywhere and that's a big plus for such a big place to visit.

It was an amazing experience. Our 2 years old daughter loved it so much and thus we visited it twice during our stay in Copenhagen. Despite the cold weather and the rain, it was one of VERY FEW zoos where all the animals were active, moving around, and interacting with the visitors.
