I couldn't be prouder of my wife, Michelle 💪 She has an excessive fear of heights (she's had her share of bad experiences with heights). 🏃‍♂️💨 And the very last thing I ever imagined doing with Michelle was to join a climbing centre. 🏋️‍♂️When we arrived in Newcastle, we knew that we had to invest in health. 3 sports are within our vicinity - boxing, gyming, and climbing. The @newcastleclimbingcentre is most unique, being situated in an actual rustic church building with a steeple (climbing centres love the heights within such buildings, that's for sure) 🧗I knew in my heart that I wanted to experience climbing! How else could we experience it, especially since the climbing centre is just a stone's throw from us? After a week of convincing her, she surprisingly agreed, and we signed up for the introductory course. 🪢It was scary for Michelle at first - having to learn belaying, to develop trust especially when falling from high heights. The instructors were most kind and patient (big thanks to Phil, Chris & Rich. They’re amazing). Michelle did her very best. 😁We ending up registering for a membership of 6 months, with our climbing equipment purchased. In these pictures, that's Michelle belaying some of our church buddies from the Philippines! Haha! The team here is incredible. It’ll be difficult to find better 😃

What a fantastic morning! The building is stunning and the facility itself looks to be very well kept. We booked our kids in for a one hour session with instructor. They had a fantastic time! The instructor was super and did loads to help with the kids confidence without being pushy. Can't wait to visit again. Highly recommend 🙌

Good to buy shoes with a little testing area. Interesting bouldering (a little soft grading compared to elsewhere). Good selection of top roping, auto belay and lead. Coffee no bad either!

My son started here 6 months ago when he was 5. Attending the odd holiday club at first. He now goes every week and has grown in confidence. All the staff are great, they've all been friendly and encouraging. He loves it

I have been climbing here for ages. Whilst I love climbing outdoor sometime the weather just doesn't allow it so it's nice to have a few local climbing centres. I have climbed up and down the county indoors during colder months, and I have to say that the staff here are top draw, a total class above. Genuinely nice honest and so safety minded, I have taken work colleagues and even their young children in the past and have no concerns whatsoever with the level of safety, and the potential fun new participants will have! Highly recommend going. But if you are an avid climber, or thinking about going on a regular basis...please read on! NCC is great if you plan to go there once in a blue moon! However, I have to say that whilst the day to day staff are superb, it is clear that their hands are so tied! I ask all the time about new climbs, new bouldering problems but the place needs a full re-do. For us that climb on a (quite often) daily basis the variety is virtually none existent! Recently there are some additional bouldering problems that have been left up following a competition and these have been fantastic to try out, very different and you can tell the setters have had more autonomy than the usual settings. Please please continue with this! All areas of the church needs attention, not from a safety aspect but from a climbing and challenging aspect. Main walls, bouldering area, smaller (kids area) walls and even the upper training area could be a million times better. I also must mention 2 things that have not sat well with me lately. firstly, the decision to put monthly fees up from £40 to £55 (a jump of over 30%!) which has driven many of my friends away to other local climbing centres (The Valley and The Pool) and they have done so out of principle! I mean even the (arguably) the best climbing centre in Europe are doing offers over the summer of £60 for 6 weeks and that climbing centre is AMAZING! Secondly, and linked to the first point, how can a company increase prices so high and change opening times? I work 5 days a week in an office, so finishing work around 5, getting home and then to the centre for a couple of hours is rubbish. They used to stay open until 10pm which was better, but now close at 9pm Seriously, come on, they need to think about the customer! I have been climbing there for 2 or 3 years and NCC has so much potential but owners/higher management clearly have no interest in bring the centre into the modern era with more dynamic and variety climbing. I now only use the centre when needs must, when I am bored or the weather stops outdoor climbing. I have to reaffirm my initial comments though, if you are looking for a little bit of fun, somewhere to take the kids, a 'party' even with colleagues or even a kids party the place is perfect, the staff are top class and so good with getting the kids, who are often too scared to climb, to climb and really enjoy themselves! But if you are interested in regularly attending I would remind you that you will quickly become very bored with the same old same old. So buy a day pass and not a monthly pass.

Fabulous induction, very patient, professional and friendly staff. They didn't rush us and handled the constant stream of questions very well!! Every member of the team - that we encountered - was just lovely. We cannot wait to come back! Edit: it seems it would depend on the staff working as to how supportive your experience will be. Edit: paid for private tuition, coach lacked significantly in interest and/or coaching skills, knowledge and ability. We have really tried to engage with this climbing centre. So... great at welcoming us in and getting our money but I recommend that you stay away from the kids clubs and don't waste your money on tuition. Such a great disappointment, was excited to instill a love and confidence of climbing in the small human. We preserved and the coach has now told us that if the small human doesn't start being more confident, and start climbing, they will lose their place. Wow

Lovely gym. Friendly staff, good setting and holds, though some of the grading was a little suspect, but that’s par for the course. Would definitely recommend, especially beginner to intermediate climbers.

As someone who has limited experience of this climbing centre, it was a positive experience. There are loads of walls/routes and kit to try out and lots of helpful people around. I went with friends but reckon it would also be a good place to go solo if you wanted, as everyone seemed friendly. It was £13.50 to climb for a good few hours, not the cheapest if you want to do it often but perhaps there are offers available. Good for a one off experience.

Great climbing place. The staff are class. Friendly and professional. The facility is exceptionally well maintained. The climbs are great. The bouldering section is perfect and covers all gradients and skill sets. Please support this place, it's awesome.

This is where I started climbing and it's just a really friendly space. It's an old church that's been redone as a climbing gym meaning it's got plenty of height and space. The staff are also really friendly and the prices are amazing. The beginner zone is great for getting to grips with climbing and the access of auto belays allows you to climb with rope without a partner. The bouldering is also varied. They also regularly change the holds to create new routes. Only issue is that they haven't updated the route grades so some of the grades may not be representive of the actual difficulty.

Me and my partner came for an introductory session and had a great time! Our instructor (Samuel) was great and explained things really clearly whilst being supportive, especially in the tough parts! Would recommend!

Booked a taster session for two on a Saturday morning (very quiet) which included your harness, shoes, chalk and the amazing Samuel to guide us through everything. He was very patient for us who’d never climbed before and gave detailed guidance on how best to climb. Would definitely recommend.

I swear i basically live here, I come every other day , the staff are absolutely wonderful, supportive and kind l. Of you're new to climbing they'll help, if you're experienced they'll have a laugh with you! The climbs are solid on both bouldering and lead. It's a great place to start training !
