I visited this restaurant years ago and had a lovely meal, so was expecting similar. However, the quality of this meal was shocking. The madras was very watery, the onion pilau grey and insipid, the poppadums were stale, and the onion bhaji undercooked and 'gooey'. To give a balanced view, the king prawns in the watery madras were fine. I will definitely not be ordering from Shaheen's in future.

Second time here on visiting Durham and even better than the first time. My veggie dupiaza was the best curry I have EVER had and I only went vegetarian in January! Daughter's vegan choice was phenomenal, and hard to please husband was completely won over with his chicken tikka. A cacophony of tastes! We will be back.

Delicious food, exactly the spice levels we asked for. Extensive menu, and 2 veggie options for each sauce (paneer or mixed veggies). The coriander rice is literally perfect.

Alongside several other musical friends, I hit the place for an early doors tea on Saturday before heading to the cathedral to perform some Haydn and Mozart. I scored the chicken tikka tandoori sizzler, a slab of keema naan and a bottle of health restoring Cobra beer. We all heartily agreed that the grub was top drawer. We visited on the instructions of our female colleague who'd done her online research and noticed the restaurant scored highly, and rightly so too. Service was friendly, down to earth and swift enough (the place was fairly quiet at this time) and my platter was loaded with cooked-bang-on chicken. If you seek ace curry: go to Shaheen.

Visited on the 02.04.23, was the first Indian to charge us more for a korma sauce without the meat in it as they won’t serve it as a side and you must take it as a main, this was disappointing as we visit Indians all the time and this pricing isn’t right. And further on from their reply - yes it does say this on the menu but I have been to Indians all over the country and this is the only one that does this so far so it’s something that puts you off. The food overall was not to bad, and the staff were really friendly.

Wonderful! Thank you not just for the food but for the lovely service and the willingness to adjust food to our taste. As an example- my Wife likes her onion bhaji with quite well cooked onions- no problem! Price-wise this was genuine value- pickles, popadums, starters, mains, parathas and a side together with drinks for less than £60.00. Thank you- we will return!

A pleasant surprise tucked away in the old heart of Durham just a stones throw from the Cathedral. The food was amazing and up there with the best I’ve ever tasted and the prices are excellent too. The atmosphere and decor nice and the staff very polite & attentive. You’ll be hard pushed to find a better Indian restaurant than this. We are from Edinburgh which has some very good Indian restaurants but this is as good as any I’ve ever tried at much better prices. The onion bajee was spectacular and the lamb Madras was quality.

So this Indian restaurant has been here 36 years and this is the first time we'd even heard about it. This is a more traditional style indian restaurant, very authentic indian dishes, not the normal Bangladesh style most are used to. I ordered the Lamb Tikka Massala and I didnt really like mine as not what I was expecting. However the staff were amazing! I said I wasn't enjoying it. Not that it wasn't nice as it was but it just wasn't what i wanted. They asked me exactly what kind of curry I wanted, flavour, colour, spicy or sweet and then said they'd get the chef to make it up for me. First a sample came to try and it was spot on. So they gave me another full curry and rice to take away. Absolutely amazing service. I would definitely recommend but just be careful that the dishes might not he exactly what you expect.

Ordered takeaway food arrived on time, ordered Onion bhajis for starters no sauce which was really disappointing, Should state on menu comes without sauce main meals was Swimming in oil very bland no taste, Naan breads very dry no garlic and hardly any chilli in side, phoned Restaurant and was told this is how they serve their food which is really upsetting when you’d spent nearly £40 on food, will not be using this Restaurant again.spice lounge is the best by far.

Don't let the vast menu deceive you, the baltis and madras are very tasty. A lovely meal. Rates very well in comparison to Indian restaurants elsewhere in UK. Recommended. (Eat in)

Was very poor, arrived on time, although, all dishes were heavily swimming in oil, threw most of it away, only ate some because we were hungry ... We've certainly had much better quality food, for £45 quid won't be ordering again. Wish I took photos before .... So dissapointed and let down for Mothers day treat!! Just to update further, I tried all ways to leave a review on Just Eat to make folk aware but it would not let me submit?

Food was absolutely awful. Cold, bland, absolutely no flavour, even the chips were rotten. Mint sauce & yoghurt tasted as if it had soured. A main missing from order which whne we rang inform them they offered a refund which in hindsight was good as i can only imagine it would have ended up in bin with the rest. Extremely disappointed as we spent £60 for it to be in the bin. 5 * for atmosphere as I was at home!!

Shaheens came highly recommended by my daughter we chose this for dinner last night. Absolutely phenomenal - the favours were intense and wonderful. So many options that make me want to come back and try more. Service was great and would highly recommend.

Always love visiting Shaheens, as soon as you walk in you are greeted by Adham or another friendly member of their team. A warm welcome follows, with great food, service and overall atmosphere. Especially recommend getting the poppadoms and garlic naans to accompany the great mains on offer.

Excellent food, very friendly and helpful staff. Enjoyed it every time. My favorite restaurant in Durham

We dined at Shaheens after my husband's graduation and could not recommend it more. We aren't familiar with Durham and weren't really sure what to expect when we booked, however every dish tasted so fresh and delicious, and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming and lovely.

This was our first time and it was absolutely fantastic, the food was beautiful and the staff and manger were great hosts. We have been to lots of Indian restaurants. But this is by far the best one we have been too. We are looking forward to having another great night out Durham. Many thanks to all the staff!

From the moment we arrived we were taken care of, nothing was to much trouble. The staff had a great knowledge of the menu, and helped us with our choice...and there are many!!! All the dishes are designed to suit everyone's palate. And the food didn't disappoint, very tasty, large portions and reasonably priced. We would highly recommend and on our next visit to Durham will return.

Very cosy little restaurant, the decor is very tasteful. The staff were spot on, taking the time to tweak our order so that we all had the perfect balance of flavour and heat; can tell they know their dishes and want everyone to enjoy them. The food is very reasonably priced especially considering the quality and flavour. Will absolutley be back, can't fault the place.

Wow! Just wow! I am not a fan of Indian food as I usually find it too greasy. I loved every dish at this restaurant! The chef took our order herself and made adjustments to some of the dishes for us. All the servers (all family) were a complete delight and ensured we were well looked after. We will definitely be back!

Full of awesome authentic flavour. One of the best I’ve ever had. The staff were great, informative and friendly. Highly recommend if you’re in Durham for a night out. We’ll be back.

A New Years Eve dinner with friends and children. What a fantastic find as we are not local. Friendly service and Beautiful food. We found from a Google review and would definitely recommend.

A friendly family run restaurant that serves delicious meals at a very good price. A wide range of curries that you can order to your own choice of heat. They do not use ghee which was a such a bonus. Will definitely eat there again.

I’m fussy about Indian food as it never tastes like ‘family’ food. But this was really nice. Also struck by friendly staff. Would definitely go back.

I went to this restaurant for a works Christmas party, all 12 of us had an amazing meal! Service was fab & food was gorgeous. Can’t wait to go back!

Absolutely fabulous. Been to some Indian restaurants over the years, but the food, the staff were among the best. I could tell it was a family run establishment straight away due to the quality of the food and of the service. If the bloke on the next table comes from East Anglia and says he has been here numerous times before, then you know it's good. Fives stars from me.

Had a takeaway from here it was tasty but expensive and needed warming up. I enjoyed it but I’ve had better elsewhere.

Dine in meal: Service excellent. Food just how we asked for. Chicken sag, lamb Madras medium heat. Chilli naan, pilau rice & plain naan. The poppadoms were fresh & the sauces were fab. (especially the lime pickle). Would recommend if you're in Durham. Note to those ordering take away. Some food does not travel well (bread goes soggy & oil will separate in complex sauces when food not straight from pot) Get a sit down 😁

I ordered for home delivery but knew already that the food would be good. In my opinion this is the best Indian restaurant in Durham. The food seems a lot more authentic and if my Indian friend rates it - what more can I say!
