As a budget traveler I came here recommended by another budget traveler. The owner is kind and explains the trekking quite well, as we wanted to get as much informed as we could be in our first time at the jungle. Now to the action. A tuk-tuk picked us up and dropped us in the starting point ~30min drive. The trekking is not difficult, can be hot depending on the season. The guide speaks good English and provided lots of interesting explanations regarding flora and fauna. He also cooked a delicious meal with just a lighter and few ingredients, made our day. The village that we visited was cool due to the lack of touristic buildings, keeping the rural essence with them. The way back was a bit more challenging but the guide assisted us doing some stops and such so we did manage to end the trekking. 100% recommendable. You may see lower prices around but considering you're going to the middle of the jungle I would focus on safety and experienced guides, just my 0,02$ so you can have a pleasant trekking.

One of the better agencies, I'm told. I did a 4-day individual trek for USD 447 with them. My guide spoke good English, was super nice, knowledgeable of the jungle since he had been a hunter, and taught me some interesting things about the local Kamu people. The food on the trek was fresh and fantastic. The first two days of the trek were lovely, doing some jungle bushcrafting the first day, and spending the second night in a charming village. The last two days, however, were lackluster (kayaking and a small hike), especially since the second homestay was neither clean nor particularly embedded in the local community. Altogether, I genuinely enjoyed the trek, although I wouldn't do it as a single traveler again. Better book it in a group of 2-4, which is cheaper. Also don't be shocked by the locals' alcohol abuse. Some villagers, including my guide (until I intervened), liked getting drunk on Lao Whiskey at 9am in the morning, which certainly dampens the kayaking and hiking experience if guides are too drunk or hung over to do their job properly. Logistically, they could definitely improve. They currently don't have an office in Luang Namtha, which seemed dodgy at first. A manager came to my hostel and we only communicated via WhatsApp, no reply to emails. Since I wanted to pay the steep price of 447 USD via credit card and not in cash, we had to check 3 different places owned bis his friends who had a working machine, since he claimed that his credit card machine was at the bank for an update. These aspects certainly seemed unprofessional. Another agency called The Hiker has these things figured out.

So happy to be the first tourists since covid on the 2 day kayak / 1 night homestay tour with Discovering Laos! We arranged it only the day before via what's app (contact number on the website) and they pulled together the tour perfectly. With just 2 of us booked, the price was a little more expensive (as tours are priced depending on group numbers) but this was definitely worth it especially having 2 fantastic guides, Toua and Xai, just for us. The kayaking was so much fun, the homestay was such a great experience and did feel really authentic (helped by the fact they weren't expecting lots of tourists on a weekly basis!), our guides were absolute jungle life pros and gave so much great insight into village life as well as preparing some fab, authentic food! Couldn't reccomend this tour enough, our favourite experience in Laos!So happy to be the first tourists since covid on the 2 day kayak / 1 night homestay tour with Discovering Laos! We had a nice two day trek to the jungle and hill tribe villages. Our guide was speaking English very well so we got a lot of interesting information from him about Laos and the tribes. The whole trip was a great adventure, it was good organised and the places we visited were authentic (although not wild, there were shops, souvenirs, etc). The only minus was the number of people in our group, we were 11 and there was just one guide speaking English. So if he told something interesting while standing at the beginning of the group on the narrow jungle path only the first 4-5 people heard what he said and it just felt crowded... Of course the more people the less you pay, but the smallest price is when there are 8 people and the piece will not get lower if there are 11 which is a little bit unfair.

We had an amazing 2D1N trek and kayak with this company. Our guides Tong and Seong were the best. They cooked amazing fresh food with supplies from the market and jungle, they work wonders with bamboo building us cups, pots, spoons, chopsticks and shot glasses, as well as our shelter. Their English was amazing also. The gentleman in the shop was very helpful with information, not too pushy and very accommodating with requests and dietary requirements. I’d definitely recommend the jungle camp option as we had great fun building the shelter and cooking in the evening. Overall amazing experience and would highly recommend to anyone in the area.

I have to admit, my experience was positively influenced by the great group of people who joined the 3 day trekking tour with DL. However apart from that DL did an excellent job at organizing and facilitating this tour. 1st example: they were the only ones who replied my emails. They put in effort getting more people on the tour and payment only took place once it was clear how many people joined. Diang was a very experienced, funny and enthusiastic guide and he was accompanied by two other guides for which the same can be said. Helping them setting up camp or cooking and drinking Lao Lao was pleasant and interesting. The “forest” made meals in bamboo pots and at the village were delicious, but don’t expect something other than sticky rice as a side dish. The trekking was great and challenging at times. We kayaked on the last day and even though the river was low we had fun and some amazing views looking up. Finally the visit to the village were a nice addition with some traditions being demonstrated by the villagers. Absolutely recommendable.

We did a 1 day cycling tour through Luang Namtha Valley with Discovering Laos. We visited several villages of ethnic minorities in the area as well as a stupa and handicraft centre. Our guide was very knowledgable and spoke English very well. He told a lot of stories about all the ethnic groups and villages and could answer all our questions. Having a guide on this cycling trip is definitely worth it, because of all the inside information you get and you will not get lost haha! I definitely recommend doing this trip when you want to learn more about the different ethnic groups while being active on a bicycle!

We had an amazing time! We did a 2D1N trekking and slept in our own made bamboo/bananaleef tents. The guide Sai spoke very well English, was knowledgeable and we could ask him anything about the jungle, villages and Lao culture. Our other guide Si Jong was a true 'jungle man'. He knew a lot about the jungle, could make anything from bamboo, was caring and very funny! Would definitely recommend this company!!

First of all I want to share that the owner of discovering laos is the kindest person ever. We arrived by night bus from Huay Xai and there were no tuktuks (or any sign of life) at the busstation. Luckily we were able to contact discovering Laos and he arranged a tuktuk for us. He also helped us rent a motorbike and let us stay at the office the second day of the trek until our bus left. We are so greatful for this and therefore we cannot recommend this company more. We did the 2 day trek and stayed at the eco lodge. The first day we were unlucky because it rained all day long and were not able to make lunch in the jungle. Nevertheless we really enjoyed our trek the first day since you really feel like you’re in the jungle and not just on a frequently walked path as we experienced with other Trekkings. We also liked that we were able to get some food at the local market. Our guide Warth was really kind, spoke good english, told us some interesting things about the jungle and let us try some plants. It was really great that we were only 2 persons because we could decide what we would do ourselves. We chose to do a little longer route the first day which we definitely not regret. The ecolodge was different than expected. It is close to the river and you sleep in 1 big room on thin mattresses under a mosquito net. It is located near a ricer and there is no electricity or a toilet so it is a little like you’re still in the jungle. People from the village come and prepare the beds and food. The second day we visited 2 villages and walked up a hill. We were already back at 1 pm which we thought was too early. It would be nicer to do some extra stuff.

We had an incredible time on the 2 day trek/kayak combo tour; would highly recommend to anyone looking for some adventure! We loved Discovering Laos’ mission statement for ethical and eco tourism and felt pleased to support them.

I joined the 3-day trekking and kayaking tour, it was amazing!! I highly recommend it. We were disconnected from the world for 3 days and it was a rewarding experience. From cooking meals using bamboos, fishing in the river, sleeping in the village homestay, swimming in the river, to kayaking on the namha river, sleeping in a banana leave shelter and chatting around the fire at night, I can't express how much i appreciate this tour. The tour gave me loving memories. The guides were so nice and funny. They know what they're doing. Tong(one of the guides) entertained the entire group with his humor. We wanted to book a tour again just for Tong. A bit details about the our tour: On the first day, we first stopped by the market in Luang Namtha to get some fresh food such as eggs, fish and vegetables for cooking later in the jungle. Then we visited a handcraft center along the Luang Namtha Valley route. Over the course of the three days, our group trekked, slept in a jungle camp next to a river, swam/bath in the river after a long day of trekking. It was so refreshing to soak in the river. At night, we had a good bonding time by the fire. My favorite part of the trip is homestay in Nalan village. We arrived at the village a bit early on the second day and it gave us the time to wander around and to explore the village. We walked across the bamboo bridge, which was a bit scary but fun. It's fascinating to see the village kids running around. They're so happy and life seemed so simple for them. On the third day, we went kayaking. It's calming to slide through the jungle on the river but at the same time, thrilling when we went through the shallow rapids. We also visited a few minority villages along the river. Overall, excellent experience, excellent guides, and excellent company.

Good advice and good tours. We went for the 3 day trek. Staying in the jungle in our banana leaf tent was a very exciting experience for my 6 y.o. daughters. We ate insects. We crossed rivers. We cooked in bamboo. It was perfect! Kids went for free too!

We had a great time doing a 3 day trek/kayaking! Our guide Tuoa was super nice and helpful, he created amazing experience for us! The food was delicious and given the cooking conditions I'd say even luxurious! For kayaking there was not enough water in certain parts of the river, but we were informed before booking (it was the dry season). Homestay in family in village was very interesting and nice. Overall I'd recommend 💯

Wonderful two-day jungle trek with this outfit who are so accommodating at creating a bespoke trip to meet needs. The guides were professional yet personable and extremely knowledgeable about the jungle but we also received an interesting insight into the lives of Laotians thanks to the good standard of English of one of our guides. We sampled so many plants whilst there and the guides even hunted for food to supplement our delicious meals which were fresh, filling and tasty - the best jungle food I’ve had. Building a camp for the night was really fun and turns out that sleeping on a bamboo leaf mattress is not so bad. I had to return early on the second day after a minor accident but the guides did everything they could to make sure I got back to the town safely and continued to assist me once back. I’d 100% recommend trekking with this brilliant agency.

Seriously the best agency in town. We did a three day Jungle trek with one night homestay and one night camping. We were a group of seven and had three guides! The guides (Souluan, Siom, Ponkiao) were very helpful, friendly and funny. They explained us a lot about khmu traditions and natural herbs / food. They respected nature as well as local traditions - unlike guides we saw from other agencies. I always felt safe and well taken care of. The agent at the office even arranged bus and train transport for us afterwards, just out of friendliness. The one thing I would encourage them to do is take ALL the garbage away from campsites, rather than burning some of it. But I guess everyone is doing that :( However, can still recommend 100%!

We did a 1-day kayak tour on the river. It was an amazing experience even if I would recommend to do it not in such a dry season... it was pretty hard work. When the river has more water it must be definitely more fun. On the down side, the cab that was bringing back home broke down and we had to wait 3 hours to get a replacement tuktuk. Luckily enough we were in a small village where the amazing inhabitants started sharing food and drinks with us. Such lovely people!

I had a beautiful trip with discovering Laos! The cooperator of the company spoke very good English. We talked about all the possibilities to go trekking in the national park. I decided to book the two days trek in combination of hiking and kayaking with one night stay in a village in the rainforest. It was amazing. On the first day they picked me by Car at my homestay up and also the other people. After that we drove to the market and bought food and hiking equipment. Then we drove to the starting point for the hike and start our trip. Our Group had is own Tourguide. He spoke good English and was very funny :) Also during the hike he showed us a lot of useful plants from the jungle. To lunchtime they provide us a delicious meal. When it’s good weather they cook for you with fresh ingredients in the jungle. After we arrived in the village they showed us around, we spend time with the natives, relaxed and swam in the river. For dinner we eaten together. The night we slept in a bamboo hut from the natives. On the next morning we start the day with breakfast and after that we kayaked. The feeling to be surrounded by the nature on the river is fantastic! We stoped on the shore next to the river to prepare our lunch. It was so beautiful!!!! All in all you hike and kayaking between 4- 6 h :) Thank you so much for this unforgettable time !!! I was so happy to booked with you my trip. May we see us again.

I did 3 days hike incl night in a forest and night in a village homestay. Although the hike is not spectacular, because you are mostly in a deep rain forest, I had an amazing time! The guides were taking care of us all the time trying to make our trip as authentic as possible. And it really worked! The food was prepared in an amazing way and it was delicious, we have been told about plants and animals and also about the villages that we visited. In a village first i felt a bit weird because obviously the locals know tourists already and they know that we come there to take pictures and leave money, but after a while i realized that also the village was just happy to host us. Noone asked us for money which was really cool! They made for us a dance show, and we could see some other activities. You can see that the tourism helps them, but not spoils them! It was really an authentic experience (i would say, super close to an 100% authentic one;)). I also really appreciated the fact that i got my own mosquito net and my own room, coz i was the only solo female in a group. The hike is not difficult, you will need some condition, but they make lots of stops and you will not walk long distances! Make sure you have a bigger group, so the price will be fine then:) we were 8! I definitely recommend this company.

We did a 1 day jungle trek (4hours) with the company. The man running the shop was helpful when asking question and equally as polite in person. We had a great guide called Tong, he taught us about lots of different plants in the jungle and fed us jungle snacks as we walked (berry’s and nuts and bugs from the trees). He’s had really great English so could ask him lots of questions about the locals and their cultures. Id definitely choose them again for another trip!

A very pleasant 2-day river Namha kayaking, that included visits to three villages, and an overnight in one of them. The river is rather low but that did not stop us from having fun, although this time of the year it is safe even for children. The guides cooked amazing food with fresh jungle herbs. If you want more adrenalin action perhaps do this April or May.

I signed up for the 3 day, 2 night tour. We did hiking on the first day and kayaking on the 2nd and 3rd days. Overall, a great value for the money. And THE BEST food I had during my whole 2 weeks in Laos. Cooking in the bamboo and making our utensils/table/chairs/sleeping area from what we found around us was a really unique experience. FYI the village we spent the night in was not really my cup of tea. It seemed like the village lived on tourism. Almost every house was set up for tourists to stay in, and it really did not seem like an "authentic" village. There were probably 30 other trekkers we saw in the small village during our stay. I prefer something more off the beaten path, but maybe this doesn't matter for you. Suggestion: The guides should wear gloves when preparing food. As this is a camping trip, sometimes with no proper toilet, proper sanitation is very important. I bring this up because on day 3 I had food poisoning. I have a strong stomach and over 3 months in Asia this was the firs time I got sick. Anyways, I just thing that gloves for meal prep would be a good addition to the trip. Complaint: My only complaint was that the whole trip felt like it was very slow paced. For example, we would stop every 15 minutes on the hiking day. We only walked maybe 4 miles. It seemed like the guide was trying to not allow us to arrive too early at the village. I wouldn't call it trekking- more like an easy walk. I would have enjoyed a longer/harder trek. But overall 5 stars. Just suggestions to possibly improve in future.

We went for the 3 days trek and kayaking and just had the best time. We were lucky to meet Thong and the whole guides crew who made this experience unforgettable. We were a groupe of six people, we trekked the first day, kayaked the second one and had a third day of walking in the jungle. The guides were very easy going and kind, they taught us a lot about the jungle and the people living in the area, they cooked three times a day delicious meals for us; we had a very good time. We paid 99 USD for the whole thing which was very reasonable and not that expensive if we look at the prices of other agencies in the city. Glad we made the choice to trust Discovering Laos !

We had a very good experience with discovering Laos. Since they don't have a physical office yet, the manager came to our hotel to discuss all the options. We immediately felt very comfortable and had a lot of options to arrange a trip to our wishes. We chose a two day trekking followed by one day of kayak. The first night we slept in a homestay and the second night in a campsite where we slept under banana leafs. Our guide, Toua, was very fluent in English and had a lot of knowledge about the local villages and life in the jungle in general. We had a great experience and would DEFINITELY recommend this company to anyone who wants a similar experience in the jungle.

Wow, what a great trip! I did the 2-day trekking + 1-day kayaking trip. We started at the rubber tree plantation and continued through the jungle to our “camp site” - loosely speaking, since we were sleeping under the banana leaf tents we constructed. Along the way Toua showed quite a few useful plants, foraged some mushrooms, edibles flowers, rattan and banana flower for dinner. At the campsite our guides cooked a yummy dinner and fresh breakfast the following morning. We opted for a shorter hike for the following day, as the longer one would have required us to walk back for 2 hours with very limited sightseeing value. So we made it to Khmu village by 2p or so - plenty of time to relax, swim in the river, check out the village, etc. there was a dance performance by children in the evening. On the last day we kayaked 25km with a stop at a Lanten village. Easy paddling with some fun rapids along the way.

I recently did a three day hiking and kayaking combo with Discovering Laos! Our group of five thought the experience was fantastic! Our hike began with a hike through a rubber plantation and then up through lush jungle. On our first night we camped beside the Nam Ha River in the heart of the jungle, beneath a shelter made of bamboo and banana leaves straight from the jungle and built by our superb guides, one of whom spoke very good English. Our food was cooked in bamboo pots and washed down with Laos whisky! Plates, spoons and cups were all made from banana leaves and bamboo. One of our guides decorated our cups with artistic decoration and weaved us souvenirs from bamboo. They even decorated our banana leaf table with candles in bamboo candle sticks. It was all wonderfully sustainable and eco friendly! Two days spent kayaking on the Nam Ha and Nam Tha Rivers with frequent rapids was thrilling, and the jungle and mountainous scenery spectacular! The opportunity to visit remote Khmu villages was an absolute privilege. We were made to feel very welcome and spent the night in one of the villages. The service was excellent and it was great value for money. I can’t recommend this experience with Discovering Laos highly enough!

We did the 1 day trekking tour through the jungle and it was absolutely amazing. Our guide was very knowledgeable and showed us all the different plants and trees. We also visited the village and had a chance to see a school class. We had a wonderful day and would definitely recommend this tour!
