Just
across
the
Southwest
D.C.-Maryland
border
is
a
19th
century
farm
preserved
by
the
National
Park
Service.
Every
day,
the
park
ranger
opens
the
gate
around
6:30
a.m.
and
closes
it
at
5
p.m.
All
are
welcome
to
visit
the
farm
free
of
charge.
Here's
why
you
should
visit:
1)
Museum:
It's
an
interactive
museum.
As
you
walk
the
farm's
campus,
you'll
read
historical
markers
and
go
inside
almost
200-year-old
brick
barns.
You
learn
about
the
farm
and
the
history
it
witnessed
(like
being
attacked
during
the
War
of
1812
or
watching
Alexandria
across
the
Potomac
get
captured
by
the
British).
2)
Farm:
You
can
see
horses,
goats,
chickens,
hogs
and
cows
on
the
farm.
They
offer
some
farm
programming
for
kids
like
chicken
feedings,
tractor
rides,
etc.
3)
Trails:
Beyond
the
early
19th
century
farm
house
is
a
trail
that
leads
to
Oxon
Cove
and
wooded
trail
with
river
views.
Once
at
he
cove,
there
are
benches,
views
of
Alexandria,
picnic
tables
and
a
running
trail
that
goes
for
miles.
Oxon
Hill
Farm
is
a
perfect
adventure
for
the
whole
family,
runners
and
history
buffs.
