We weren’t sure which fish n chip shop to use as we are not local. We read the reviews and noticed a few good reviews from recent and a lot of older reviews that were terrible so we thought they must have improved or changed hands. Well they were the worst we have ever eaten. Greasy, dark in colour, thick horrible spongy batter and cooked in dirty oil. We bought for 4 people and threw most of it out. The only thing I could eat were the prawns. The rest was disgusting. Biggest waste of money. If I could give a half star I would have.

OMG wow the best fish and chips I’ve had in forever! This little unassuming gem, run by locals, located in Woodroffe was referred by a friend and they were spot on great fresh local fish, great prices and friendly service can’t wait to try the burgers and the tasty fried chicken nom nom!

I'd have to give an honest to god 5 Star review. I am a very picky person when it comes to Seafood, but by far some of the best Fish and Chips I've had in Darwin to date. The fish is always perfectly hot and the chips perfectly salted with Chicken Salt. Top quality and the taste is great!

My partner and I made a large order tonight and we both waited in the shop until it was ready. When we arrived home (and we only live a few streets away) we were disappointed with the quality of the food we had paid for. The chips weren’t hot and were dark and cardboard like, the large spring-roll was semi-frozen, the homemade aioli was clumpy and our order was missing 3 pieces of flake. We immediately called to inform the staff and they apologised and sorted the remaining of our order. As apologetic and friendly as the staff were, no compensation was offered for the inconvenience. In these are trying economic times and when you’re spending almost $100 for fish & chips to feed your family, you expect quality. The positives I will say is that the Hungry and Hangry Burgers were great and the batter on the seafood was light and crisp - but that’s about it.

We seen mixed reviews, we thought we would give it a try. Bad mistake. Instant regret. Food does not look presentable, grilled fish looks like rubber. Didn’t even give it to the dog. Had to order something else for the family for dinner Extremely disappointed

It had very nice crispy golden brown fries. I don't eat fish so I can't review that. Fast delivery and hot chips.

Literally only chose this place because our regular wasn't answering their phone. instant regret. My whole family had food poisoning that went on for 3-4 days because of these guys

Fish was a little overcooked but still good. The serving sizes were bigger than I expected. Good chips too!

It’s really good now that theirs new owners. Food was fresh and tasty and I didn’t wait long. Very happy with it.

Ordered $15 chips to get the same amount as 2 bags of chips for Coles (French fry size). Bearly any salt, and chips taste like the oil is dirty. Won't be back.

BIG shout out to the Hungry Dolphin as it was their first night to serve butter chicken and tandoori chicken and it was delicious. Definitely will be coming back for more and highly recommend. 🍻

Had a Hangry burger and chips. Burger was excellent, a few more chips would've made it great. One ofthe best burgers I've had in Darwin. Didn't have to wait long either. Plenty of variety as well, reasonably priced.

Very large serving! Great fish and chips, trying the butter chicken next time! Don't let the location put you off.

Had it a couple of times last year and it was one the best fish n chips place I've been to, everytime I ordered there the quality was always good. Went there tonight unfortunately it has turned into one of the worse, it all tasted like it was cooked in old oil, I couldn't eat my fish, the calamari rings and chips weren't much better. Won't be going back there again or recommending to others

Ordered delivery on uber. First order was cancelled so ordered again as we loved their chips last time. Second order came but was missing an item and their chips are now skinny fries. Not chip shop chips, TINY potato scallops and definitely not $12 worth as we had ordered. When i rung to say we were missing an item we were given the option to go in for a refund. We were also told they have changed owners which would explain it. Will not be ordering again.

Bought family chips and some potato cakes, the tato cakes were small so they gave a few extra with no extra charge, chips were also soft and crunchy, done well. Even my picky child ate every bite he got. Will definately be going back.

First time getting take away here and the food was delicious. The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection, chips were unreal and dips are fresh. Will be back 😀

Excellent flake , great thick crunchy chips . Awesome service come down and support this newly family owned business. I’ve been to Ballantynes for the past 10 years and lately and I can’t even get thru on the phone let alone the 45 minute wait food below subpar . Edit 23/5/22 maybe an off night , but potato cakes where burnt and not edible . Chips where also over cooked looked to be double fried . Little disappointed tonight

Everyone has the right to review any business that you have purchased product from and their experience of that product. In our experience we purchased fish and chips from Hungry Dolphin and in our opinion it was not of good quality. My wife had put up a review ( see previous review of Fiona Lawson) which was not only her opinion but the collective opinion of the 4 recipients of Hungry Dolphin’s product . I would just like to put the story straight as we are now being harassed and stalked by someone named Alfie from Hungry Dolphin via text, which he went to great lengths to hunt my mobile number down as I was the one who placed the order . He stalked us through social media to then update his reply on My wife’s review that we were doing a lap of Australia. How otherwise would he know this? And for his information we attempted to eat the fish and chips 5 minutes from his shop not 30 minutes as he stated. I do not believe this is in the true spirit of the review process. He had said we should have rang him not do a review and now he is making assumptions to discredit our review, but the bottom line is all four of us found the meals to be inedible.
