Midgard vikingsenter is small but interesting museum is devoted to the well-known site in Borre. In the very nice building are exhibited finds (or their replicas) which were discovered in numerous archaeological excavations on the site in Borre. Moreover, several meters to the east from this building are reconstructed huge mounds in which were found artefacts (e.g. mounts of horse bridle, mount of harness, jewellery) covered with elaborated ornaments (e.g. gripping beasts, chains, knots). Close to the museum building is reconstructed small stronghold. Behind stockade, is beautifully decorated longhouse and several small buildings. During festivals in Midgard vikingsenter in this place are presented numerous Viking Age crafts. In my opinion Midgard vikingsenter and its close neighbourhood are very interesting places to spend a day.

We arrived late and didn’t have a full experience at the outdoor portion of the museum. We like the Viking vibe there. We tasted some simple Viking food and did some shopping particularly the stall that sells silver and bronze accessories. We got some bronze earrings and silver bracelet.

A living history museum complete with burial mounds of Vikings. Interactive museum with actors and the ability to create tools from Viking history. A dining hall that creates a meal to take you back to Viking history

The entry fee is cheap (a mere 100 NOK) and last throughout the day, and gives access to both the exhibit and gildehall. The exhibit housed roughly 10 glass cases with items dug up from one of the mounds, some of which contained fairly impressive reconstructions. By the entrance into the museum there's a replica of one of the runestones located in Sweden. Anyone can take a stroll through the park, free of charge, and contains numerous mounds as well as a view of where there once used to be a large port. Unfortunately, there seemed to be little information about the mounds and their condition beside speculations. The gildehall is a large and impressive piece of art, surrounded by a palisade wall to keep the sound out, and I was fortunate to get to spend an hour talking with the host, who was dressed for the occasion, while she kept the fire lit and was making a basket out of straws. While the exhibit and information revolving the mounds was a bit lacking, it was well worth the visit to see the inside of the gildehall with my own eyes. The museum also has some nice trinkets that you can purchase.

Best museum I've been to by far. Loads of activities (as pictured) for kids and adults. The land this museum is situated on holds many other sights to see. You could stay here for 1 hour or all days. Highly recommend.

The Viking Tawern on the other side was spot on. Often there are Old school cooking classes. The woman that is kitchen master she explains a lot history about cooking and talk about other interesting topics about Norwegian People in Viking times. She speeks Norwegian, English and Polish. We tasted barley with kale and better (10/10). Wee also seen perfect pork knuckle.

Clash with the Vikings and experience the life and times of Borre circa 800-1100 AD. The Midgard Center is a capturing experience with the great hall and preservation of artifacts! And be sure to try a waffle and saft in the cafe!

We checked Google in the morning to see if the museum was open on 19.10.2021. According to Google from 11 am. So we set off from Kungsham in Sweden via ferry across the Oslofjord. Arrived there, by now 12:30, it said everywhere that it was open. But nothing. We were standing in front of a closed door. The light was on. We rang the bell. No one opened. So we walked around the grounds once. Back at the museum, we rang the bell again, because according to Google and the local opening hours, it was open. A young man opened the door and told us that it was closed today and open again tomorrow. Great! 6 hours driving time in total, a whole day's holiday, 100 euros less for absolutely nothing. We cannot recommend this museum. The opening hours on Google are definitely not reliable. Neither are the opening hours on site. We will never know if the museum is worth it. If you could rate this place with 0 stars, we would.

Great place to visit for a family day out. Closing is at 4pm but the ground can be visited after hours, so visit the center and the huge hall ( great). And take your swim suits on warm days as you can walk down to the beach after the burial mount. We had some interesting fish and shrimp nibbling/tickling there.😉

Amazing combination of a historical museum, outdoor recreation and a cozy cafe with a stunning view. A place where past and present combine. The staff lifts it up a notch, entrance fee is just symbolic, and the whole place is both educational, relaxing and highly instagrammable.

Was here while there was a festival we didn't know about. Couldnt see the halls while they told us we could. The rest of it are just some hills of sand witch would be old tombs, but nothing to see anymore

Small but beautifully curated museum dedicated to the surrounding site and history of the viking age. Has some amazing unquie artifacts well worth seeing. I visited during the annual midguardsblot festival which is an amazing event in cooperation with the museum itself. The series of talks specially designed for the festival were a fascinating mix of topics with fantastic speakers. Well worth a stop in if you are in borre!

The museum has two attractions. First, the actual collection of Viking effects and, in addition, a small cinema which introduces us uniquely to the Vikings in the finest way. The other main attraction is the "Gilde Hallen" which is one of the most impressive Viking style buildings I have seen. Too bad the management doesn't have better information or directions to this unique building. I was close to leaving the museum without seeing the Gilde hall.

Great Structure, No one to serve in the Cafeteria & very limited choice & we were dead hungry. The old hall looked amazing, so did the fence around it. Gorgeous Wooden engraved Viking heads at the roundabout leading to area. The place can use English on lots of things.

Park is huge, exhibition is tiny. Mainly ancient graveyard. Place with guildhall is nice. Generally we expected more and left disappointed.

Impressive reconstruction. Definetly worth visiting. You can not purchase the ticket inside the hall- it's free to walk around the mounds, see runestones and guildhoise from outside.

The guildhall in Midgard was the location for many scenes in The Norsemen. But here you can also do many activities like throwing axes and partaiking in viking battles

We had a phantastic time there, the guide in the feast hall had profound knowledge about history and told us a lot of interesting stuff we never had heard before. You could really see they have passion for their jobs and love what they are doing. Absolut recommentation for all who love the viking age.

I recommend visiting this museum. Here you can see a Viking hall with small stores where the staff is dressed up as Vikings. I also got to throw axes at a target just like real Vikings did for fun.
