I would say this is the best place I found during my trip to Oslo. I went to almost every iconic place of Oslo, but I would keep FRAM museum at my top list. The museum is so amazingly constructed that every person gets fascinated Once they enter. I would say it is the best place in Oslo, and highly recommended place to visit.

This was a wonderful experience. Almost everything was accessible to people with disabilities, except for the hole in the ship. The movie was terrific, and the 270-degree view from the top of the ship was amazing. It wasn't too crowded today. The museum is not just about one specific explorer; it covers all of the Arctic and Antarctic explorers. You should plan to spend at least 2-3 hours here. There are also two other museums on-site that you may want to visit.reat experience. Everything is wheelchair accessible but the hole in the ship.

A must visit museum if you are visiting Oslo. Has 2 large ships inside which were used for polar expeditions. The museum is filled with detailed history , descriptions, and the lighting / effects on the main ship are fantastic. Totally worth the penny. They offer bundled tickets for the nearby maritime and thor museum too, but we were satisfied with this single one. Top notch preservation of history.

After a couple of hours, I feel amazed from the amount of information you can get from this museum. The history behind all modern explorations to the North and south poles are included in two buildings with the focus to the Norwegian missions, which were ,no doubt, the most important and successful. It is not only the ships inside, but the history you learn on your way around the exhibitions. Highly recommended.

Really cool experience and beautifully laid out museum. Even if you don’t think you’d be overly interested in Antarctic expeditions, the narrative of the museum sweeps you up in it - culminating in an opportunity to climb aboard the ship. Also don’t miss the experience at the front of the second level, not sure what’s going on behind those doors but it’s fun for sure

You'll find an arctic ship from the 1800s within the Frame Museum. The most exciting part is that you're able to explore the ship itself, walk through the cabins which is a very unique experience. Beyond the ship itself, there are informational exhibits, but they're fairly minimal - I do wish there was more to explore. It can also be quite crowded which makes it difficult to explore the ship on my own time.

This museum is situated in the peninsula island that’s linked by road and is reachable by bus or ferry. The hop on hop off bus reaches this place. The whole museum is about this vessel ‘Fram’ which means forward. You get to tour the ship and the inside chambers and learn about their expedition to the South Pole and their aspirations. It’s interesting to learn that the leader of the ship has a vision to build this that is strong enough to withstand extreme pressure of the ice, enough for provisions for only 12 crew members and be able to store supplies for 5-6 years. It’s rather dark on the vessel deck so would need flash for cameras.

One of the best museums in Oslo, just a short distance from city center. Main focus is the Polar History and the Norwegian Polar explorers and their path to North and South Poles. Lots of pictures and some activities, where you can’t miss the big ship “FRAM”, that was the strongest wooden polar ship. You can go inside the ship and get a good feel of how it was to explore in a ship like this. Very interesting for younger kids as well, as there are lots of stimulus and stuff to touch and feel.

It's a fun experience. There is so much to see and read, that you can spend a whole day here. We were here for 3 hours, but skipped some of the reading. Walking the ship replicas is cool and the introduction movie you can see at the museum cinema sets the stage nicely. It'a easy to get here from the centre by a number 30 bus.

One of the most interesting museum we have visited! If you are in Oslo this is a must see museum! With Oslo Pass you have free entrance so it totally worth it! The history of this museum and this vessel is very interesting! You can experience the life of the crew from this vessel because you can take a walk on the ship and inside of it! We totally recommend visiting this museum! 👍

(Translated by Google) Fantastic to be able to experience a large part of our polar history and be able to see and feel the beautiful Polar ship "Fram" and be able to get acquainted with all its expeditions. This is a unique experience for both young and old. Here you can board the real ship, and walk around freely ... both above and below deck, where you can see the cabins, the cargo hold, the engine room, the galley and the salons. As well as see a lot of the equipment that was used along the way. This is a great ship, which towers with its 800 tons when fully loaded, it has a length of approx. 39 meters, and the width is approx. 11 meters and deep approx. 5 meters. A unique ship that carries incredible stories, and which should really be experienced by everyone and everyone ...

Located in Bygdøy, next to some other really great museums. While somewhat far from Oslo’s city center it’s easily accessible via bus. The exhibition itself is centered around the Fram, a huge ship that was used in polar expeditions. You can learn a lot about the Arctic, it’s climate, fauna and the people that inhabit it as well as the many expeditions that took place there.

I would give 6 points. It’s astonishing view and dive into the history of discovery the both Poles. It’s history about brave men and obsession to the main goal. The Fram itself is a wonderful peace of modern history. I highly recommend to visit this museum

Really excellent exhibit!!! Well presented. Amazing story and amazing ship!. Loved it!!! Great fun for all. Really got sense of what happened and how brave they all were. You can sit on deck and there is a projector that projects the the journey the ship took as though you are doing it with the stormy sea or pack ice all around the ship. I sat mesmerized on a moving bench that copied the motion of the ship whilst watching the film. Brilliant!!

Very informative museum, with a lot of pictures and a lot to read. It would take couple of visits to see everything. The ships are amazing though, the way they are set up allowing the public to visit the interior and see how things used to look like is really nice. It was impressively well maintained. People with accessibility issues will definitely have trouble to see the interior of the ships but getting on them should be doable.

Wonderful museum about arctic expeditions. This is another museum that shouldn't be missed, where you will see two huge ships from two different expeditions. The ships are great to see outside and even inside. You can enter in both ships and see all the cabins and can imagine how was the live on the boat of each member of the crew. You can learn about their live and stories and expeditions. Do not miss this museum as you will not regret it. You can walk from Folk museum and see a beautiful neighbourhood or you can take the boat from the center.

A small but highly enjoyable museum. The highlight are the two ships from the polar expeditions; you can enter inside and walk across the different chambers, really unique experience. Can be done in 30 minutes if in a hurry, but can spend 1-2h if you are interested in the details of the expeditions. There is a public bus that stops right in the entrance, that is probably the best way together there.

My friend and I loved it!! We’re both 21, but exploring the ship & doing the small challenges honestly made our day. So much to see and learn about the exploration of the North Pole! There’s an igloo you can get into, or you can try the sledge pushing simulator. The attention to detail is amazing and I’d recommend this museum. Also - amazing views of Oslo outside!

Small but interesting museum, especially if you are fascinated by polar expeditions. The actual “Fram” ship which brought expeditors for the first time to the south pole is there. Museum has a perfect design and gives you a real feeling of such historical and scientific expeditions.

I don't know if it's because of the pandemic or what, but the open exhibits were just printed out photos with descriptions. Maybe about a quarter of the exhibits are actual things from the expedition and not a poster of the story. If I *only* want to read stuff, I'll not pay 12€ for it. Having said that, a small number of exhibits were interesting, a few of the Inuit cultural artifact's were shown, which were the only interesting thing about this place. You can skip it.

(Translated by Google) A brilliant museum! Inside are the original polar ships, which can be viewed in full. On the upper deck, sound and images are used to suggest the journey through an arctic sea, and everyday situations inside the ship are also shown on video. There is information material and entertaining games around the ships, such as a device that can be used to pull a loaded snow cut. The museum is definitely worth a visit and is worthwhile for the whole family. (Original) Ein geniales Museum!

(Translated by Google) The museum on these two important ships of the Arctic exploration is scenically very very impactful. The collection of material (including relics, reconstructions, photographs, films, etc.) is extremely rich. This, however, tends to be a little confusing. The possibility of visiting the ships inside them is very nice, a visit made pleasant even for children with some (few) playful activities inside the ships themselves. On the other hand, the textual accompaniment to the exhibition is a little badly distributed, not very usable, especially for a "quick" visit. It should be accompanied by a more synthetic compendium that allows not to miss the most important details. I know it will sound odd, but the strong smell of tar bothered me a little, but I realize that for wooden ships it cannot be otherwise.

Impressive museum. Walking through the exhibition and soak in all of the historic interior makes you travel back in time. Especially inside the ship, checking out the cabins of the crew and their daily life on it makes you realize how different our life is now and what those Explorers took in to discover the world. If you get a chance definitely check it out. Plan at least 2hours to be able to check everything out.

I really enjoyed the visit at this museum! I don't want to spoil too much of the surprise, so I'll just mention some of the highlights. First of all, you'll see the ship that took the first successful expedition to the South pole on place. And you'll learn about the history of it and their competitors. But you'll also have the privilege to walk in and on the ship! Lastly there is a "North pole simulator"... well, take a jacket with you...

Great museum about the history of the polar expeditions in general and of course the Fram expeditions. The museum is split in two parts. One with a little cinema that plays a short movie and displays a smaller expedition ship. The other part is the main one with the Fram. The exhibition is really great for kids and adults. You can get on an in the ship and see how they lived and worked on it back then. The surrounding exhibition is also really good and is showing the everything they needed for there expeditions. There even is a chamber that is cooled down so that you can experience a bit his it had been like living in the ship for the time of the expedition. The price is absolutely fine.

Very good place, you can walk around the premise before getting inside and there are a couple monuments and good views. Inside the museum you can get inside the boat and there is plenty of stuff to see about polar expeditions and the history. This is one of the 3 museums to see in that spot.

A majestic, immersive experience. Climb aboard the polar exploration ship, listening to crashing lightning, and see how the travelers endured the raging tempests and misfortunes they suffered. A jolt to the spirit regardless of whether you're a lover of frontier exploration. Go below deck to look at what conditions were like.

Excellent attraction. Real polar icebreaker ship. Converted to museum with many exhibits and audio visual presentations. No disabled access to ship itself as this is over 3 floors accessible by narrow stairs a nod low do ok rwats with steps. Lighting on top deck poor but this due to 180 degree video presentation visible from top floor. There is a museum shop and toilets along with large car park.

I LOVE this museum! I first came in 2017 and it kick-started my love for polar expeditions. The museum is built around the Fram boat, all the way up and around on multiple levels is super interesting information not only on Fram's expeditions, but a whole host of different explorers. So many great things to look at and read, there's a new Nansen's photographs part which wasn't there last time I came in 2018, which shows off the incredible photos taken on Nansen's journey in the 1890's. After you've gone round the museum you get to the top and board Fram, travelling all the way through from the top deck to the engine below.

  • 5/5 Aiden L. 1 year ago on Google
The museum provides immersive experiences of what the expeditioners had to go through. You can even go inside the ship and see what they had to go through! I loved that they had projectors simulating the expedition on the top level of the ship as well as a super cold room that simulates the arctic air. Amazing place to just have fun and learn and even better to bring your kids

This museum is a must visit if you had to choose one. Great thing is they let you visit the deck of the actual ship. Most people didn’t seem to know this from the deck you can actually go inside the shop also and visit a few rooms in the ship. It’s a bit congested though.

An amazing experience. To think we were on the very ship on which Amundsen made his epic voyage to the South Pole. You can see where he ate and slept, as well as lots of information about the race to the pole. Enjoyed every minute of it.

Great museum for fans of exploration, sea travel and anything Arctic/Antarctic. We really enjoyed touring the ships. The exhibits were enlightening and had several interactive components. Our family enjoyed the visit from young to old.

Museum depicts the Norwegian polar exploration. There's a historical ship where you could even go inside and explore which is cool. You can learn some history and even you are not interested this place will make you interesting once you get there. Went during the weekend and wasn't that crowded. Highly recommended.

In my opinion, this is a must see in Oslo. Don’t try to walk here, it’s kind of a pain to walk to from the city, speaking from experience. Although the walk was beautiful, so if you’re up for a bit of a hike, go for it. Take a city bus here for sure, or the ferry. Just note that if you choose to take the ferry, the last one leaves back to the city at 18:10. I really enjoyed this museum because of how unique and interesting it was. You get to walk in throughout the ship, which was the highlight. They have lots of really interesting exhibitions about arctic exploration. They also have other museums right here that you can go to. There is a really nice lookout point behind the museum once you’re done to enjoy the Fjord and see all the boats passing by.

This museum is stunning - the variety of exhibits, the opportunity to explore two polar exploration ships, the fabulous cold simulation experience, it’s all fantastic. My kids learnt so much and we all voted this the best laid out museum in Oslo. If you are unsure about visiting, don’t hesitate, definitely worth a few hours.

Fantastic museum situated on Bidgoy peninsula! It is included in the Oslo pass! There’s an entire ship inside that is also accessible! Lots of different things to do for kids and adults! You can also try to pull a sleigh as if you were in the North Pole!

Well worth the visit. Allow for about 90 minutes to read all exhibit plagues. A bit confusing to start as introduction video not working. Be nice if there was a “start here” sign somewhere! Otherwise a very interesting story on the race to the South Pole!

The Fram Museum was amazing. There are two boats that can be toured and there are detailed displays outlining many expeditions to explore the north and south poles. There are several interactive opportunities for the kids and a short film making this a great afternoon for the whole family.

Museum dedicated to history of Antarctic exploration, with steam powered ship ”Fram” as its centerpiece. You can learn about the race between Amundsen and Scott and also see the different parts of the ship from inside. The museum store with recreations of travel logs is worth visiting.

Much more than expected. You could spend a day (or more) reading all the details. Almost all rooms inside the Fram are accessible👍🏻. Impressive video projection to be viewed from aboard the ship with high waves, icebergs... Regret not to have bought the books about the museum😥. Visit with Oslo-Pass👍🏻

We took a ferry from Oslo to reach here. This entire museum is about the polar jouneys in earlier days. The way Fram ship is restored is amazing. One has to see it to believe it. There are so many decks from where one can exploe the vast ship. There is also a lift for covenience. Keep aside at least two hours if you wan to enjoy this beautiful museum... Worth it...

Loved it. We could go on board the ship and explore. Lots to read, look at. Good visit, particularly if you have children. My teenage daughter really enjoyed it.

Really interesting museum. Don't miss "cold room". I recommend if u really wanna take ur time and read most of the text in the museum make at least 3 hours for it, however if u aren't really into history 1,5 should be perfectly fine.

If only Roald Amundsen wasn’t so cruel to animals… However, this museum is wonderfully detailed and an epic place to go to if you are interested in difficult journeys or exploration in general. Going inside Amundsen’s ship was interesting, though I didn’t get to learn too much about its preservation. This is important for Oslo.

A fantastic museum. The museum includes three separate museum. There is also a wonderful seaview. It is very beautiful during the summer time. Also, it is easy to reach by bus and by boat. However, you may need to spend hours there. Buying a day pass is v. Valueable

Situated right next to the water with a great view. Being able to climb inside the boats and to see the interior of the Fram including the rooms of the officers is great fun. The Maritime Museum Right Next to it has a nice cafe with good food.

Absolutely fantastic museum! Lots to learn about here and very well laid out! The tickets are really affordable and at a good price, and can be bought online or at arrival. The museum itself is really interesting and has lots of interactive sections. Being able to go on and inside two of the ships was such an exciting experience and it's amazing for both children and adults! This wasn't applicable to me, but the museum is very accessible and has wheelchair access and lifts. The staff were constantly friendly, and the gift shop was nice too! The seating area outside was clean and spacious to relax after the visit.

An amazing museum, loads to see here with both ships. I’d advise giving yourself at least 3 hours to go and experience it all for both ships. I especially loved being able to walk through the Fram ship, it felt like such a wonderful look in to what it was like on this boat. So much information to read; I found this place really interesting.

Great museum to see polar exploration and life while trying to make the North Pole! Small snack bar and gift shop. Even an igloo and many videos!

Really liked this place, wasn't expensive and is a lot bigger inside then it looks. Being able to go into the boats and walk around them was the best part of the museum I found but there were loads to do, such seeing if you were strong enough to pull the sledges (150kg and 300kg) honestly I wasn't but it was fun trying.

Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to read at least some of the information on the walls. We went over from the city center harbor on a boat the departs every 10 minutes from mark 3. Save's a long walk and nice little trip, can buy tickets on board.

We had a good time at this museum. Our kids really enjoyed getting to go below deck on the ships. I was honestly surprised by how much was available below the decks. The interactive projections outside of the Fram were really fun. It really made it feel like you were on the boat. It only takes about an hour or two to go through it quickly with kids.

Actually THREE maritime museums in one stop with some of the most famous and impressive ships of their day. The Fram museum holds the gigantic Fram, first to reach the north pole and later travelled to Antarctica. The great sailors and ship builders of Norway are memorialized to their great glories. Incredibly visitors can board the ship and tour its inner workings, cabins, workshops and engine room. Across the street the museum holding the Kon Tiki, proving the capability of travel from S America to Indonesia, inspired by the commonality of dress and customs of these two far distance cultures. Don't miss this half day visit that firmly establishes the Swedes as supreme ship builders and explorers. These are all the actual ships.

One of the coolest museums I've been to. The giant shop models that you can walk through are very fun to experience. Lots and lots of information panels, you could spend forever reading if you wanted to.

Very nice museum. A great part of history and the world we know today. Nice and clean, and it is not overcrowded. Price: 2 adults and to 5 children cost 300 Nrk/ 23€
