Stunning place! Absolutely must see museum for any military/history/nordic lover. This spot has so much to offer. Easily spent several hours browsing multiple sections. They do have quite cool stuff. Not to mention Armored Personal Carrier! And yeah, entry is free of charge as well, so one more reason to visit.

Interesting museum with displays of weapons used in successive wars over the centuries. The museum is located in the park near the Akershus Fortress. We again took advantage of the Oslo Pass to gain access without queuing or paying.

It was a fun and educational experience. The only sad thing is that not everything was translated into English. But otherwise. Totally worth the money :)

This museum consists of two main exhibitions. First, close to the entrance, is dedicated mainly to the international missions in which the Norwegian Armed Forces participated in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The second part is focused on the presentation of weaponry and equipment from the medieval period to the early 21st century. It is enriched by films and dioramas. In the museum could be also found the exhibition dedicated to the history of the Norwegian monarchy. On the ground floor, it is also a cafe offering warm and cold drinks as well as various snacks.

If you're into history or military equipment this is a great place to visit. Entrance is free, two floors of exposition packed with items and displays. There is also a small cafe on the first floor. I wish the information would've been completely translated to English.

Really enjoyed this place. Soooo much to see. And fun to see weapons you have fired yourself along with 1000 year old ones.

Nice place to get entertained for a couple of hours. Shows time-lined visualisation contribution of Norways Army’s contribution in UN army. A walkthrough of different historical figures as well. Gun collection is really good. Though there are very few Viking time weapons. One standout thing is how burning ships art is created with black coloured cotton. Only bad thing is almost all information is in Norwegian and not in English, that’s why one less star.

Fantastic museum that when I visited was included with the Oslo Pass. I spent about 2-3 hours here in a Sunday walking through the entire museum. They had a few exhibits with modern military equipment and stories about Norwegian Armed Forces. Then, on the second floor, you step back into the time of Vikings and work your way through the years with exhibits on everything related to military activities. There are a lot of interesting weapons and armor from the Vikings to modern-day Norwegian soldiers to look at and plenty of information on all of it. There is plenty of information on the soldiers and civilians from each exhibit explaining daily life or how people were affected. I really enjoyed visiting the museum. I would definitely go back whenever I visit Oslo again.

Fantastic experience! If you like history and military stuff this is the place for you. Huge variety of items displayed, all well preserved, the fortress itself and the surrunding neighbourhood is also very nice to visit. Little con : 90% of the explainations are written in Norwegian so not very tourist friendly but still it deserves 5 stars.

Some very good exhibits and fairly well laid out. Spent roughly 2hours walking through. Some of the information boards were only in Norwegian which makes it slightly prohibitive for foreign tourists. Google lens helps.

This military museum was better than l remembered, it must be ten years since l was here last time. The second floor is absolutely the best, we spent an hour discussing the artifacts from 1300-1700 then our families got bored and told us to hurry up. We'll have to come back to examine the 20th century another day

Great museum with a lot of interesting things. I was with my daughter and even she liked it. There is a small cafe where you can grab a bite to eat if needed.

All in all this is a great museum. Lots of history past present and future. My only complaint is not very English friendly

  • 5/5 Christian . 7 months ago on Google
After the renovation, the armed forces museum included a large focus on international operations, in addition to the history dating back to "viking' times. I suppose the Vikings went on international operations as well. Anyway, an interesting visit, And for me personally, one of my favorite museums.

Kleines Museum, welches man sehr gut auf seinem Oslo-Trip besuchen kann. Sehr informativ, trotz vieles auf norwegisch beschildert ist.

Great museum. Very nice tour and not too expensive. Very nice area overall. It was cool to see the fort and the museum. Inside the museum there was tons to see and it was well laid out. I was sad to see a digital camera in there it made me feel old! Haha. Overall very nice thank you!

Very interesting exhibition, a lot to see and definitely worth checking out while in Oslo! The only downside is a lack of English descriptions (at least in most cases) which makes it difficult to fully admire what this museum has to offer.

Has a lot of unique objects. Really liked the new ww1 exhibit. Earlier it was free entry but now it costs money. 1814 - 1905 exhibit was very dark.

The main purpose of the Norwegian Armed Forces Museum is to show the Norwegian military history from the Viking Age to the present. The museum consists of six departments: The ancient times, military history from the Viking era to 1814. 1814 – 1905, military history from 1814 to 1905. 1905 – 1940, military history from 1905 to 1940. 1940, military history from 1940 to 1945, focusing on the land battles of World War II. Naval battles, military history from 1940 to 1945, focusing on naval battles of World War II. After the war, military history from 1945 to present. In addition, there are periods of special exhibitions.

Really good museum if you're interested in armed forces and warfare. Some impressive collections on display shame most of the descriptions are not in English and you have to scan the QR codes but still good to see things and interpret them yourself. Free with the Oslo Pass as well.

Fantastic, educational museum full of interesting exhibits. Would recommend a visit.

For the entrance fee of €10,- a pretty nice museum. There is no English translation for anything on the ground floor though. Which makes it quite pointless to hang around to long. Upstairs the information is in Norse and English so they do know how to do it.

    Big museum. Thumbs up

  • 4/5 Nicolai N. 1 year ago on Google
Very nice exibition of military merchandice of all ages. I really liked the storytelling focussing on the soldiers from NO who went on international missions. The angle on the individual soldiers experiences from their tour was unique.

The pieces descriptors are only in Norwegian. They have qr codes for English, but you have to open them individually! Not fit for tourism

Absolutely terrific place to visit. At first, it doesn't seem like much, and it isn't, but once you go upstairs...WOW!! Tons of amazing history from the Norwegian perspective. I've been to many military museums, and this unassuming museum ranks right up there with the best. The staff are super nice to. Very highly recommend.

It is a war museum with a lot of sections, which cover the Norwegian War history. The problem is that not all exhibits have English text scripts. This doesn't mean that it isn't worth visiting. Anyone can spend a couple of hours viewing and learning large parts of modern Norwegian history.

  • 5/5 Marie B. 1 year ago on Google
One of the best military museum I've been to: so many pieces, from the viking age to today. Presents all the Norwegian operations in the world, history of their armament as well as UN operations, the world wars, etc. Also a small live exhibition about the question of having a king. Loved it! I recommend this museum! My only regret is that not all texts are translated in English (you can scan a QR code for some translation). I can understand some danish which helped me but that my only downside. Do not let this stop you from going, it has an impressive display of weapons, armament and historical pieces! And the price is very fair for the size of the museum.

Such a shame that Polish flag is not displayed in the part of the display dedicated to UN. :( We we’re one of the formers of this alliance too, and Poland joined the UN even earlier than West Germany or Norway… (Poland 24 October 1945; Norway 27 November 1945) It would be very pleasant for our nation to not be discarded in such of topics and places like this.

Nice experience. Lots of authentic historical items to see, walking through the museum will take you about 90-120 minutes depending on how much interest you have. The only complaint is that the English translations are inconsistent, some sections have full translation, some just few sentences in English and others no translation at all.

  • 3/5 Aaron G. 1 year ago on Google
It was OK, but the layout was a little confusing and most displays didn't hold my attention long. Still worth a visit if you combine it with the resistance and castle museum tickets.

Amazing history museum. So much we never knew about Oslo

  • 4/5 Wolfgang S. 1 year ago on Google
A really interesting, comprehensive and didactically excellent museum. We enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately a significant corpus of the texts are not translated to english, that could yet be improved.
