They have such good reviews because the staff get free accommodation and are told to give good reviews, staff changes very often which leads to such a high rating. The high rating is a little undeserved in my opinion. Good location, but they act like a party hostel and try to be a chilled out hostel at the same time, doesn't work. Pick one. The partying doesn't really fit with the old town location anyway.

Central in Vegueta. Very poor private rooms. Too expensive. Waste of your money. So called Volunteers with no salery/no tax but free sleeping are the staff. Ongoing rebuilding with noise and lot of dust. Do not choose this place!

Worst client service I received in my life! It's really rare that I do reviews online, but I didn't have the choice here... We booked this hostel for 6 nights, but we were arriving in the middle of the night. As I knew that they didn't have a 24h reception, I took the time to write an email to them in advance and tried to call them 2 times. I never had any replied from them... Obviously, when we got there at 2 am, no one was there to open the door and we were left in the middle of the night outside, without any place to sleep. In the end, a guest heard us so he opened the door and told us that all the volunteer were gone partying and there was no one to check us in. The guest didn't look really surprise about our story as he explained to us the low quality of the hostel (3 showers for all the hostel, no AC, disgusting smell, line for the bathroom all the time, etc.) So, after we heard all of this and didn't have anywhere to sleep, we decided to walk in the middle of the night and find a hotel, and in the end we stayed there for the 6 nights, cause we didn't want to go back to this hostel. The next morning, we came back to have a refund, and the manager told us that we had to deal with Hostel world, which we did, but they only gave us the deposit back. They said that we had to deal with the hostel for the rest of the amount. I've been emailing the manager of the hostel since a month and a half now and never had any news from her... I would never recommend anyone to even think about booking a night in this hostel. You'll get not comprehension and the worst service.

On the surface this seems like a nice hostel, with art on the walls and nice furniture. I'm sure the original concept was great but not much seems to be left. The place seems to be under construction and there is just two bathrooms for the whole hostel (always waiting in line). Everything is dirty and we slept in a room with barely any ventilation (just facing the inside of the building). This might have been acceptable if the rooms were cheaper. If I pay 50 euros for a room with a shared bathroom (25 euro for a dorm bed) I at least expect some level of cleanliness and not to be constantly waiting in line for the bathroom. At least the staff were friendly and the kitchen is well equipped, but there aren't many other nice things to say about this place...

Had such an amazing time staying at Columbus Hostels!! We arrived in the evening, the hostel is only a short walk from the bus stations, we were then greeted by friendly, upbeat staff who made us feel at home straight away. The atmosphere in the hostel was warm and welcoming, people were cooking meals together in the communal kitchen which had everything you needed. The staff member gave us a tour of the hostel and showed us where everything we needed was. The tour was finished on the trendy rooftop terrace , people were relaxing here and having a few drinks, great atmosphere!! The next day (after a fab nights sleep) we joined the staff and other guests on a hiking trip on the island, this was offered to us by the Columbus team and its safe to say it was one of the highlights of our whole trip. So yeah, highly recommend this hostel to anyone wanting a clean, friendly and central hostel!!

I had a great stay here I would definitely recommend this hostel to any avid traveller. I loved the terrace, they put on events at night and it was a great space to meet the other guests. The staff were very welcoming and helpful during my stay too. My absolute go to for a hostel is cleanliness, central location and a good place to meet people, Columbus definitely ticked all those boxes for me. I'll be coming back soon!

Almost perfect; even with the heavy rain the second night, the hostel was perfect and the staff are fantastic! Thank you so much, especially valentine and marina!!

Staying at Columbus Rooftop Hostel in Las Palmas was a delight, largely thanks to Arianna, a super volunteer who made our visit exceptionally welcoming. Her local knowledge and helpful tips greatly enhanced our experience. The hostel offers a fantastic rooftop view, comfortable and clean rooms, and a friendly atmosphere. Arianna's kind and efficient service stood out, making our stay memorable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Las Palmas.

Very nice hostel! Good location and very nice and helpfull staff. Big kitchen so few people can cook in one moment. Beautiful view from rooftop. If you are real backpacker you will love this place 😊

Great room, plenty of storage. Amazing roof terrace, ideal for socialising after a few days in the wilderness. Nice kitchen and living space downstairs. Only a couple of showers but a couple more on the way and never queued. Only downside is the lack of views from the roof but there are plenty of places around town you can see the church roofs. I'll be back as the location near the bus station is perfect for the itinerant traveler and the proximity to the museums and galleries makes a days rest very interesting.

I can’t recommend this hostel. Not valuable at all. The sanitary are old and disgusting! However it well located in Vegueta, Las Palmas old town.

Most sociable hostel I’ve been to. Very much a drinking and party vibe which can be super fun. Great crowd of people there including the manager.

We loved our stay here! The location was absolutely perfect for seeing the old town and really close to good bars and restaurants. The staff were all really friendly and they had events on most nights to partake in – we were offered free dinner and had a fun night up on the terrace at the bar with other guests! The hostel was really well decorated, good facilities and spotlessy clean all the time too. Would return in a heartbeat, thanks for having us!

Had such a great time here. The hostel was in a beautiful location in the old town, with easy access to the city. The staff were super friendly, especially Seb and Dan! There is a bar on the roof which is great place to meet other people or just chill out. My only con was the small sign they had on the front of the hostel making it hard to find. So if you stay here, don't forget your magnify glass! Can't wait to come back next year!

Some travellers might prefer a smaller hostel. Columbus is quite large, but has a friendly atmosphere and nice energy popular with the younger or less confident crowd. Don't rely on getting too much food with the free breakfast. The dinners can be more substantial, and are quite welcome. The location is attractive, in the old town.

An amazing, social, well located hostel in a beautiful part of Las Palmas. Perfect for solo travellers such as myself as the common areas and the gorgeous rooftop make it easy to socialize with other guests and volunteers. The owners did a great job and are often seen in the hostel fixing it up and hanging out with people, which is also great as they are super nice! True hostel vibe - could not recommend it more!

I liked my stay here! :D hostel was really well decorated, good facilities and spotlessly clean all the time too. The staff were all really friendly and they had events on most nights to participate in and they offered free dinner and had a fun night up on the terrace at the bar with other guests! The location was absolutely perfect for seeing the old town and close to the beach and buses. I would highly recommend this hostel!

Love Love Love this hostel! I've been to quite a few on my travels and this one is one of the best. Everyone who runs the hostel is incredibly kind and accommodating. Spanish and English speaking, they are so willing to help you out and make sure you have a great stay! The facilities were great and everything is kept really clean. It felt so homey being their and the rooftop bar and lounge area made for my favorite part. It was a great place to be social and meet new people and other travelers, they even hosted an awesome barbecue on my night there!

Had another absolutely wonderful stay at Columbus Rooftop Hostels! I came for the first time in January and I knew I’ll be back! One more time I came as a solo traveler and met incredible staff members and guests. I came by myself but I did not spend a single day alone! All staff members are extremely friendly, welcoming, helpful and they all work really hard to make sure, guests enjoy their stay in the hostel. Belen, who works at hostel was teaching me Spanish every day and she’s absolutely wonderful! I already miss her and the rest of the Columbus family. The whole place is great and very clean. The dining/lounge area is perfect for all international guests to get to know each other, bond or to chill if they need to. One of the huge perks are meals - the hostel serves pancakes in the morning and every day at 7pm there’s a delicious veggie meal. Upstairs there’s a rooftop, a great place to meet up with friends or watch a movie in the evening or just to chill on the hammock and read a book during the day. I highly recommend this hostel and I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Las Palmas. Thank you guys!

50 euros to stay with 12 people in a 9 square metre room for 2 nights, no privacy possible, the showers where scarce, dirty, uncomfortable
