Red Rock is the perfect day trip if you are in Las Vegas and want to enjoy the outdoors. There are numerous trails, each with dynamically different scenery. The Calico Tanks is a 2.5 mile round trip hike with about 400-500 feet in elevation change. It is absolutely beautiful. When you get to the end, scale the wall for an amazing view of the entire Las Vegas Valley. If you are a bit adventurous, go off trail on the way back. You can't get lost, as the canyon walls lead back to the trail head.

If you’re in Vegas this is a must see. It’s a quick 30min drive from the strip. It’s like a 20 minute drive without stopping to drive through. Very inexpensive and excellent scenery. There are areas to pull off every mile, each with incredible back drops for photos. There are trails after virtually every stop. From short hikes to advanced trails for long hikes. It’s got everything you could ask for. Absolutely gorgeous, a must see and one of the few inexpensive experiences you can find in Vegas.

If you're in Vegas, you have to check it out! So pretty! The views are really great, and they have different walking trails including ones right from the visitor center. They have Wi-Fi in the visitor center so you can order a cab from there. I recommend budgeting at least two hours here and coming in the morning. Keep hydrated!

We spent several hours here doing short hikes and just exploring the canyons. We visited in October and it was hot 80s F, but not unbearable. Many of the trails are very walkable and easy. I would recommend a hat and sunscreen as there is very little shade. It was about a one hour drive from Las Vegas and a perfect day trip. We combined this with also driving to Death Valley at sunset. Beautiful landscapes and so much to see. Highly recommend!

Excellent park. Not a national park, but a national conservation area. Not sure what the difference is, but it is a beautiful place. People camped all over the place, on the road, in trail heads, in the campground. Lots of rock climbers visit here. So close to Vegas. Loop drive was cool, we did it 2x, but saw no tortoise ☹️ visitor center was helpful but small. Restrooms were out of order but they had Porto potty s. Warm here in January. Lots of hiking possibilities, we did not do any long trails, but they all looked interesting.

A scenic, serene drive with ample look-out spots, just outside Vegas! While the Red Rock Canyon Overlook that is outside the park, a little west along 159, is still beautiful, it’s nowhere near the grandeur of the one way scenic drive inside the park. Walk-in day pass might be tricky sometimes, we were turned away after waiting in queue for about 20 mins, however when we exited the park and tried reserving online (network is patchy too) it worked! There were passes available for the day online, glad we checked, if not we would have missed out on so many picturesque spots along their scenic drive. Some places involve small hikes, but a very enjoyable experience. Majestic colorful views, especially on a sunny day with blue skies!! Might get windy at times. Definitely worth visiting and better to reserve online and join the “Reservations” queue at the entrance.

Chill. Well more the vibe than the temperature. On that thought, this is a place best seen in the morning. Both for the temperature and the light. The main entrance has a visitor center and a cost that requires a reservation. Save your money and time and simply drive down to one of the free trailheads. The trails are groomed and fairly flat. You can easily do an hour adventure by walking a half hour out and then turn around and come back to your car. I think my favorite thing was the variety of cacti and succulents that we saw.

Undeterred after 1st visit on an overcast day, I returned on a sunnier day, greeted by breathtaking views that illuminated the landscape's vivid colors. The hiking trails offered a closer encounter with the rugged beauty, while the sight of climbers scaling the red rocks added an adventurous flair. Red Rock Canyon stands as a testament to nature's artistry and the diverse experiences it offers to all who venture there to explore its wonders.

Amazing scenic drive and the weather was perfect that day. If you time your entry right, don't forget to have a picnic lunch at the Willow Springs parking lot... plenty of picnic tables just be aware they aren't covered so you're exposed to the sun. Many stops and parking lots along the scenic drive for photo opportunities. I'll be back here again someday!

We went to go hiking on Christmas morning. We got our passes to enter the park and it was easy. We hiked some of the trails but it started getting ready windy and the temperature dropped a lot so we called it a day. The hike to the waterfall was fantastic. I've been to the park several times and I love it. If you are visiting Las Vegas, take some time to visit this great park.

This was my first real glimpse of a proper desert, with mountains, giant boulders, Joshua trees, and those red rocks that give this place its name. It's absolutely gorgeous and if you're visiting Las Vegas this is a must. It's only a 40-45 minute drive, and it's easily accessible. There's a 13 mile scenic loop that offers many stopping places for pictures. There are also many great trails. It's just incredible to have such a scenic area so close to the Vegas strip. Do take plenty of water, but it's just on the outskirts of suburban Las Vegas so food, gas, and shopping are only a short drive away.

Beautiful experience! Red Rock canyon is only 17 miles west from Las Vegas. It has a 13 mile scenic drive through the canyon. It has hiking tails, rock climbing, horseback riding, mountain biking, and picnic areas. It's absolutely beautiful and a great get away from the hustle and bustle of Vegas. It has a welcome center, book store, and an area that highlights the area. It's a $20 entrance fee but if you have the National Park entry pass it's included. It's an easy drive with easy to walk out of the car or parking to look at the views. You won't be disappointed!

Stunning natural park with many hiking opportunities. A perfect antidote to the Las Vegas strip. 1. Circular scenic drive which requires a reservation. $15 per car. The loop is one way with many areas to park and take photos. Approximately 40 minute drive with no stops. 2. Hikes. There are many hikes within the loop. The red rock canyon websites have information regarding each hike. 3. Information center just within the loop. 4. Just before the entrance fee area is calico trail. Busy but no charge. Restroom and picnic area. Limited to no cell phone coverage. Bring water, snacks and sunscreen.

Absolutely stunning place! So close to Las Vegas and yet feels like a world away. Beautiful scenic drive. Trail heads are well marked and easy to find on the map. We did the popular Calico Tanks Trail and we're so pleased. Temperatures are cooler in the Canyon as there is a constant breeze that blows, making the hike really enjoyable. The views are spectacular. This trail is inside the fee area but worth it!

Beautiful! For $20 per vehicle, you can drive the scenic loop and just look, or get out at designated parking areas, and take photos. This is a great location for those who just want to see the beauty and/or maybe take a little walk down a trail as well as those who hike and climb. We spent about 90 minutes there because we drove through and only walked part of one trail. There are bathrooms (larger, fancy porta-potties, basically) at some spots. Grab a map when you get there so you know where they are ahead of time. We ordered tickets online. At 9 AM on a Sunday, it was not overly crowded - we never had a problem pulling into one of the parking areas. If you're visiting Las Vegas, I definitely recommend spending a couple of hours at Red Rock Canyon. You'll get great photos!

I’m from the east coast and even thou we have a beautiful forest kind of scenery this park Red rock is beautiful on its own went there twice and exploring this huge park and would definitely go back and recommend to anyone who loves nature and hiking. We stopped at the first location and we saw the red sand stones and climbed around. The second time we hiked the Turtle neck peak, it was breath taking at the top just be careful on the way down as its like walking on pebbles recommended to use a walking stick.

Red Rock Canyon is a beautiful preserve teeming with color. You'll be able enjoy the scenic drive with regularly spaced facilities, or stop at the many well marked trails and do some exploring. I was thrilled to discover so much foliage in bloom in December. The stillness of the caverns was a wonderful break from the amplification of sound in the city. If you have a moment to be still for a bit, you may be able to see wildlife like Panamint Chipmunks or Mountain Bluebirds.

The views were absolutely breathtaking. We went around 10am and it felt like we had the area all to ourselves. There are several hiking trails you can go on. Check out the customer service center/ gift shop before taking the loop. The red rocks were gorgeous. They have scenic overlooks throughout for great pictures and restrooms also. You will not be disappointed. It was great taking a break from the Vegas strip to enjoy nature.

What an awesome morning destination during our visit to Vegas! We hiked to Calico Tanks starting at around 9:30am. The trail was well marked and I appreciated the design of the signage of trailheads along the scenic drive. We saw a great view of the strip from afar. While it was suffocatingly hot on the strip, it felt cooler at the canyon and even had some refreshing breezes. The rock formations are beautiful and we saw a few creatures while there: ground squirrel, mating lizards, and a rabbit. The visitors center is really, really well done. I loved the indoor and outdoor exhibits, with tons to learn about the area. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back and try a different hike!

Absolutely stunning landscape! We are not hikers so we drove slowly through the park. There are pull-overs for scenic photo ops and restrooms. Less than 45 min from the LV strip, depending on which end you are coming from. They do have hiking paths and you can even go horseback riding in some areas. Highly recommend this natural wonder!

So close to the strip. Make a reservation. It’s not crowded at all. Came at 8 am. If you are going to hike, make sure to wear the proper hiking shoes. It’s very slippery. Icebox trail is really climbing boulders. The 13 mile drive to the look out points is worth it even if you aren’t going to hike.

Made it a priority to explore as much as we could for the day but if you can go multiple days, I highly recommend it. I believe the entrance fee is $15 per car but we had Uber drop us off/pick us up. The commute from the Vegas strip was relatively short. The views on the journey were absolutely breathtaking. The Calico Tank trail is moderate intensity and worth completing. Bring more water than you think you need and snacks.

How do I justifiably describe beauty? The place has so much to offer. You can do mini climbs, hike, see mini falls, enjoy the nature of God, the rocks, the adventures, etc! They are open in different seasons, but note to schedule before coming here and come early because it gets packed (just the entrance). Animal-friendly and family-friendly. They have a free pass for elementary kids to sign up online for the yearly pass—the best local spot, in my opinion.

What a wonderful place to visit and spend a half day after our hectic Vegas trip schedule. Breathtaking views, scenic drives, miles and miles of trails. Not to forget the innovatively designed visitors center with tonnes of information to learn everything about rock formation and relevant geology information. Recommend to visit late morning hours to enjoy the park. Just pay the $20 entry fee per vehicle and enjoy the whole day at the park.

The park is federally operated, so there is an entrance fee and a required timed entry reservation, which should be done online ahead of time. Very easy. There is a nice visitors center once you enter. Be sure to ask for guidance concerning trails. We went with our planned Calico Tanks and the suggested Keystone Thrust trails. Outdoor port-a-johns are situated in the parking area rather than inside facilities. The 13-mile scenic road is one way only. There's no possibility for u-turning or coming back or even re-entry, unless after 5 pm. This area is spectacular as it overlooks the Vegas valley and contains interesting flora in this arid mountainous biome. We loved the difference between our two hikes, Calico being surrounded by red rocks and Keystone meandering along a ridge with distant views. The only thing I disliked was the adding of large gravel to the trails. We understand the purpose of protection, but it really made walking much more difficult, even unpleasant. There are many more trails and climbing sites. Ice Box Canyon is one of the more popular ones.

Had a lovely afternoon trip with the family to the Canyon. Beautiful open space with stunning rock formations. Saw a little wild rabbit near the visitor center. Definitely fill up on water before the drive especially if you're hiking. We were able to follow a hike into the Canyon. It was sad to see that someone vandalized the water hole but it was easy enough to ignore. So many tadpoles in there! Not too strenuous. Great place to go to get away from the Las Vegas chaos.

What a peaceful place to be! It's so exciting to hike and explore the Red Rock Canyon! We had such a great time. A local showed us some ancient writing on the mountain. We were also able to watch some mountain climbers do their thing! Take the whole family. You can choose where to hike and the sights are stunning regardless. It's also a blast to climb into the little caves and relax for a little while as you take in the beauty of your surroundings! Now, there's always a chance that you will run into a tarantula in one of those caves, but I didn't. Take the trip and enjoy a great time outdoors!

There is an entrance fee to enter Red Rock Canyon. It is absolutely worth it although I can see more and more houses being built at the mouth of the canyon just before entering. Very different from my first visit years ago so I wonder how long before more commercialization occurs. There is a visitor center with a gift shop, water fill Station, and restrooms. There is a scenic drive that has a lot of cool trails to hike for an up close and personal appreciation of the red rocks. However, there can be quite a lot of tourists.

With a scenic drive and a selection of hikes of varying difficulties (all the way from gentle sunday afternoon stroll to oh my god why am i doing this), there's something here for everyone! The scenic drive will take approximately 25-30min depending on how fast you're sending it. The hike we completed was the Calico Tanks, leading to quite a nice overlook. The hike is rated as moderate, which is accurate: there are certain portions that are a touch technical and require a bit of sprawling to navigate. They also recommend about 1L of water / mile hiking: the day we went, it wasn't overly hot and actually had a bit of a cool breeze, but we still ended up drinking a fair bit. Either way, just make sure you're well prepared to enjoy yourselves !

Very nice for a scenic drive. You can see all the rock formations and the colors – they’re out of this world. Whether you’re into hiking or just wanna chill and enjoy nature, Red Rock Canyon is the spot, and it’s only a 25-minute drive from the strip

I love this park for a trail run! It’s not too far from the city at all but you still feel out in nature. I have only been on weekdays but it’s never too busy and I can enjoy a nice trail run on some flowy single track and enjoy some technical bits! Depending on how long you want to be out, I would recommend starting the grand circle loop from the visitor center and go counter clockwise so you can enjoy all the fun parts first and turn around if you don’t want to do the full loop.

Lovely place, rock formation and changing colors look absolutely stunning. Great place for rock climbers. Watch out for climbing those rocks after rain as some of those rocks could get brittle and clog the passages.

Just located out of Summerlin, NV. Calico Tanks Trail is a great trail! Moderate hike with some rock scrambling will gift you with a great view of the park. The “tanks” are natural rock water reservoirs; when there is water present it will naturally pool. Although, during my visit there was no pooling waters, it did not take away from this geological wonder! All trailheads are off the Scenic Loop Drive (a one direction loop around the park) with ample parking. Stop by the visitors center to pick up you map and read some historical tidbits about the park.

Beautiful place not far from Las Vegas. If you're visiting Vegas and got tired of the madness of casinos, restaurants, and shows, this place can provide a nice respite and is only 40m away from the strip (by car). There are also tours directly from Las Vegas for those who don't want to drive. We went during the summer so hiking was off the menu. At least on the maps, the trails are well mapped and should be pleasant to hike during more moderate weather. I also heard they have E-bike tours which seems like an interesting option. Even if you only have an hour or two, there's a one way loop around the park with very nice views. Many stops (but not all) have a restroom open to the public. Drive slowly and stop around to enjoy the views. Entrance fee was $23 (as of July/2023) per car. The place is clean and well documented so I felt that the experience was more than worth the price charged.

The scenic drive was out of this world. Amazing scenery, and you can pull in at various spots to take in the sights. We visited at 7pm on a weekday evening and there were barely any cars. Restrooms available and endless possibilities for hikes. I just wish we had more time! Our absolute favourite thing to do in the Las Vegas area. This place is a climbers paradise! So much to do and so much to climb! The sport and trad routes are super fun and the approaches aren’t bad at all. What a phenomenal place! You can pay your $15 per car and leisurely drive along the 13 plus miles of road stopping to explore or hike whenever you want. There are bathrooms sprinkled throughout each of the stops and maps to give you the perspective of where you like to hike as well and trash cans to keep the place clean. You need to check under your car every time you pull out to ensure there is no tortoises underneath :-) It was an enjoyable stop that everybody needs to experience.

Beautiful place. Cost 2 of us 20 bucks to get in and well worth it. But if you have America the beautiful card, it's paid for. Most people don't realize that it's 2 lanes in one direction. Wish we had more time to hike those canyons.

This place had amazing views. There is a scenic drive route that allows you to see many beautiful sites along with many hiking paths. Be prepared if you plan on hiking any trails. Some of the easier rated trails have elevation and rocks paths that may require some agility. We spent almost the entire day there. Walking 4-5 trails around the scenic route.

Hike here every time we come to Vegas, great escape from the strip and a little over 30 minute drive. The admission/entrance process has changed, so buying passes ahead of time is highly recommended. It's also become more expensive :( Many of the trails are poorly marked to mapping/trail programs are very useful, the right side, close to entry has more rock scrambling trails and the other side is generally flatter. Like to come here early to avoid the potential crowds that arrive later in the day.

Awesome views and really nice trails. It felt like we were on a private tour of the canyon. The 1-way road stretches all the way through the park, and it felt as if we paid for a private road. I recommend you go nice and slow. You almost feel like if you're back in time so much so that you can definitely shoot a jurassic Park scene here. There's a 9/11 memorial on the park, pretty ko and interesting to see, you may miss it so be on the look out, it's on the side of the visitors center.

First time exploring Red Rock Canyon, and it's beautiful. We went outside of the boardwalk and hiked up and down the hills, which wasn't too bad. I did borrow a hiking stick for about 5 minutes as it is definitely rocky and there are a lot of loose rocks. This was only one of the areas. I plan to explore more. Bathrooms are available and were clean the day we went. Phone and text signal is spotty when inside the park.

Rock Canyon near Las Vegas, NV. I've never seen this side of Vegas. This place had swirls of colors circling the rocks. Sandstone rock, black and red everywhere. Climbers in all parts ascending their bucket lists like us or projecting. Hikers, runners and sightseers basking in its red beauty. The hikes are at all levels, easy and intense.I'll definitely be back!

I am not a very outdoorsy person though I did go through the scouts growing up, so I appreciate and respect Mother Nature. There are a certain things in nature which I find soothing and wonderful, and this is one of them. I am no geologist nor an experienced hiker so I won’t get into any of that and try to understand why people are hiking into the rocks around 5pm at night when it is already getting dark and there is at least a 8 mile flat but rocky trail ahead of them, and without proper clothing and any gears. However it is a very popular wedding photo spot that is for sure. The time of the year is perfect mid day (Nov), but make sure to bring cover ups if you are planning on extending the visit until the evening. The landscape is the most beautiful when the setting sun is partially hitting the rocks and drawing the near by shadows, which means every 10-15 mins you will have a different photo from the same spot. One recommendation, bring a drone! It is not like Zion or Mojave, you are clear to take off here, check my last photo!
