Pecos-McLeod Trailhead

Tourist attraction Hiking area

😠 Do not go here alone. The homeless have overtaken the trail. If you do decide to ride a bike or walk be very aware of your surroundings. This is too much of a risk in my opinion. Go to another trail head. Under the bridges? It is Mad Max time. People often mention homeless, people, trail, bridge, bike, city,

I think this place is awesome. There are some real cool post modern structures that provide a lot of shade. There are places to park or relax from hiking. This location is deep in the city and runs along the drainage canal, and everyone has access to it so I get you might see homeless people, but I didn't see anyone all day. We even did an awesome photo session next to the sculpture on Pecos that turned out amazing.

I went walking for the first time here with a friend and her bf visiting from out of state. It is a flat paved walk but it does have uphill and down for bridge part. There is a cool sculpture and some painted mural in certain part. Homeless people need have somewhere to go and certain parts of trail you will see more tents. I could see how some people would turn around right away. We went during daylight and just paid attention to our surroundings the whole time.

Went for a bike ride there with my girlfriend and had to turn around at the first bridge as the path goes under a bridge which was full of tents and homeless. Sure many homeless are nice, but you choose your situations of who to talk to and when. I'm definitely NOT risking riding past them under a dark bridge. Nope. You don't know if they're junkies and you gotta be smart and choose safety. We did a U-turn when we saw it and some of them started screaming at us from far.

Nice shortcut, but the wash itself isn't cleared of trash frequently enough.

I think with a little effort from the city this could be a five star urban trail. The surface was fine the whole trail form pecos to wetlands, it was a nice road bike ride. The homeless was very abundant even so where they were blocking the path at a few spots. I'm from San Diego so getting along with homeless no issue for me but at one point under a dark bridge where a bunch have set up camp i can see why it would deter people from entering. The trash could be dealt with a weekly city clean up crew or a bunch of volunteers if the city would allow it. But let some artist go to town on the trail and with the existing sculptures this could be a real cultural experience. Come on city leaders step up let the round peg in the round hole!

I'm down ther almost everyday w/ the homeless. I help make sure it's cleaned up as much as I can. I leave them trash bags & evn sweep the trail 4rm under the bridge down 2 the crossing bridge & down 2 the tunnels. Yes alot of homeless reside ther, but 4 the most part they r very respectful. When people pass by they will say "incoming" that's 2 let others know 2 clear & get outa the way. They hav a line drawn under the bridge 2 make sure none of the stuff they have down ther is in the way. Jus bcuz they r homeless it doesn't make them savages! Say hi, smile, shake a hand, U may b suprised, they r people 2! Alot of them hav many skills! Think about it, they hav 2 survive on the outside, not only that, they wernt always in that situation! Life hapns! Don't think 4 a moment that it culdnt hapn 2 U! Matter of fact, if sumthn goes wrong w/ your bike while riding down ther, U can stop under the bridge & ask 4 help & they can fix it 4 U cuz it's like a bike shop down ther! Don't worry, they don't bite! They wuld b glad 2 help U! As far as my oppinion overall, it does need more lighting & it culd hav sum grassy areas like the 1 over by Washington & Lamb.

Homeless fill beneath the bridges as if an infestation has occurred. For a rich city it looks as if gangs fill parks and public hikes

My bikes were stolen, and I think one of these homeless people took it. If you ask me, I would've give you my old bike. This neighborhood suck for riding bike, better to go to another trail.

Be careful when running here. We had no issue with the homeless here but there is a lot of trash and broken glass so if you are running with your dog be careful.

I think it's funny how people who aren't homeless are scared of the homeless but when they are in need of help in many situations 9 times out of 10 The homeless are the first people to help u and not ask for anything in return!
