We
attended
2pm
Mass
today
for
the
Solemnity
of
the
Immaculate
Conception
between
our
conference
and
our
late
flight
out.
We
had
our
carry-on
(i.e.
SMALL)
bags.
There
was
a
sign
that
said
not
to
block
the
aisles.
Makes
total
sense.
So,
we
walked
down
to
sit
up
front
because
my
boss
and
I
are
both
people
who
sit
up
front
at
our
home
parish.
Our
plan
was
to
wheel
our
bags
into
the
pew
row
and
set
them
up
on
the
pew.
A
very
rude
usher
blocked
our
path,
saying
it
was
against
county
fire
code.
The
sign
clearly
referred
to
aisles,
not
rows.
Same
as
the
fire
code,
by
the
way.
I
canโt
imagine
my
bag,
sitting
on
a
pew
and
not
blocking
any
paths,
is
gong
to
keep
someone
from
exiting
the
church
in
an
emergency.
Not
to
mentionโฆ
the
church
was
very
scarcely
occupied.
Our
bags
were
not
hazards
to
anyone.
So,
my
boss
went
to
ask
the
person
in
the
shrine
office
if
we
could
stow
our
bags
there
for
the
duration
of
Mass.
โNoโ
we
could
not
and,
โOh
by
the
way,
weโd
like
to
search
your
bags.โ
UM.
WHAT?!!
I
donโt
know
what
happened
after
that,
but
they
did
not
search
our
bags.
We
were
seated
in
the
back
row
of
the
huge
sanctuary
-
so
far
back
we
were
under
the
overhang
where
here
was
no
airflow
and
the
audio
was
like
an
echo
in
a
tunnel.
The
bright
spot
-
other
than
Eucharist,
of
course
-
was
a
nice
lady
getting
ready
to
fly
back
to
Seattle
who
was
very
friendly
and
engaging.
Itโs
pretty
pitiful
that
an
attendee
from
another
state
was
more
hospitable
than
the
people
involved
in
ministry
at
this
church.
โRather,
he
must
be
hospitable,
one
who
loves
what
is
good,
who
is
self-controlled,
upright,
holy
and
disciplined.โ
~
Titus
1:8
โOffer
hospitality
to
one
another
without
grumbling.โ
~

Peter
4:9
The
priest
gave
a
good
homily
clarifying
that
the
Solemnity
of
the
Immaculate
Conception
commemorates
Maryโs
conception
in
her
motherโs
womb
and
NOT
Jesusโ
conception
in
Maryโs
womb
(which
we
commemorate
on
the
Solemnity
of
the
Assumption).
Iโm
a
little
confused
as
to
why
we
sang
two
hymns
about
the
Assumption,
undoing
all
the
good
the
priest
did
in
his
homily.
*sigh*
Usually,
Iโm
in
a
hurry
to
get
INTO
church.
When
I
make
a
pilgrimage
to
a
new
church,
I
throw
a
$20
in
the
basket,
spend
time
taking
in
the
art
and
architecture,
take
photos,
share
with
my
friends.
Iโd
definitely
have
purchased
something
in
the
gift
store.
But
today,
I
just
couldnโt
wait
to
leave.
Well
done.
